Dear XDA community,
I dont know if this has ever occurred for you
But this happened and I am trying to get an insight as to what i should do
I realize that with GSM versions, the phone number is stuck on the sim card so it doesnt change even after a rom change
But as for us Fascinate Users, we dont have a sim so i dont know whats going on...
This is what happened..
After trying out couple of roms, i decided to move around because i ran into force close problems.
So after wiping cache, dalvik cache, factory resetting,... now that i am back on a stable rom, my phone number that shows under the phone status is now the number 0000002275 (about phone > status > Phone number)
I never had this problem before but this is so weird that I have no clue as to what i should do about it.
I cannot tell if calling my phone works because i am currently out of the country and without service for indefinite period of time.
I think the only solution for me now is to do *228 when i get back to the states.
But i was wondering if any of you experienced this problem before.
I am currently on the TeamSbrissenMod Touchwiz Rom
Thanks for the replies!

Hi, i have a photon 4g and so far iv tried cm7.2 cm9 and also the stock rom that came with the phone which was 2.3.5 198.6 i think but with all of them i get the same problem, i loose data at random times and the only way to get it back up is by restarting the phone. So far iv notice that when i loose data all my APN's dissapear too, so im getting nutz about this problem, so nutz that even the fact that i love this phone so freaking much i'm starting to think that i'll be selling it really soon, because i cant find a solution for this, i use GSM because im in venezuela, so please if anyone knows how to fix this DATA issue id really appreciated

That happens to me,too.
And it lasts for about 2 months, seems no solutions yet.:crying:
One possible reason I got is like: every time the phone encountered a signal problem, such as Airplane Mode, weak strength, etc. The phone react much faster than the SIM card, and then the sim card is not really initialized, the phone itself resumes up,and got a wrong MCC/MNC,both are 000.
No solutions on photons yet, because there seems no one works on Photons' framework. That could be changed by correcting the framework I think, because same problem happens on so many types of phones, such as ST18i.And both are resolved.:crying:
You can fine more information on CM's official website, there are many discussions on resolving other types of phones.

Hello there, I´m using the phone in Perú in a GSM network, with stock 2.3.4 and rooted. So far my MoPho has never lost the APN configuration. Are you only losing your 3g connection and your APN? Because I do lose my GSM signal sometimes in a day, but for some seconds only.
Hi, I am in Sweden and I am using miui 2.6.1 ics rom and I have no problems also I use a app called apn global its a quick way to set up apn's it reads your sim card.
GSM apns disappearing
Hi
I am on Cm9 aokp build 38 and i also had this issue of apns disappearing ( I am in India using GSM) The solution is to flash forceroaming.zip files from cm9 fixes files in this forum and flash it and restart it. If you dont see any apns manually you enter the apn value of your provider and save the settings and voila the problem is gone:highfive:. Sure this fixes the problem but I dont know how:fingers-crossed:. experienced guys may help but i am experiencing uniterrupted data after this
Used to have the disappearing apn problem for cm9... but since recently flashing to cm10, the disappearing has stopped... In the "Manage Apps", i noticed that the apndormancy service was stopped by default for cm10...probably thats what stops the apns from disapearing when phone "sleeps".. If theres an app that can freeze services and you can get it to freeze the apndormancy service, i think this would stop the disappearing.
Cm10 all data problems have been eliminated apns don't disappear. For cm9 you can flash forceroaming.zip

Interesting problem that I suddenly have after installing rom. First I have been installing just about every rom has come for the last 6 months. Today I installed latest Carbon ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2310695 today and it installed ok, but upon booting for the first time, it got stuck the setup right at the beginning where I press the language (English). It just sat there and didn't do anything. I tried reinstalled the rom, and it did the same thing.
So I assumed a had a bad download, so I went to restore my daily driver backup rom (Zone sense 4 rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2116509). But now I have no mobile data or mobile connection at all. I get a triangle next to the bars and whenever I restart phone I get this message "Global data roman access is allowed. Significantly higher charges may apply". I have never seen that before.
I have tried removing sim, toggling all mobile network options (CDMA, global, roaming, etc.) and I still get no connection at all. Any ideas here? I am on Verizon.

Thanks. I did that and it worked. Any thoughts on how to avoid that in future aosp roms? Did I do something wrong or is it totally random?

Its apparently random. I've had it happen twice, once back non CM10 when it just got RIL going, and a build ago on Carbon.
I'm going through this right now. I rru'd and can connect to 3g and use the data but no texts and when I try to make a call I end up with a Verizon message saying my number is inactive. Everything works fine on my backup phone. So its not a problem with Verizon
Edit... I'm going to ruu again and factory reset before booting because I think I remember seeing that posted at some point

EDIT 2.... re rru'd still having problems it will not make calls and will get 3g data when set to roaming which it seems to be on with the triangle above the signal.
anyone know the Verizon apn's i only have verizon internet in my apn list.
Edit 3 All fixed. i was factory resetting in stock recovery to no avail but a factory reset in sense itself worked
I have sgs3 international. A few months ago my phone started having down times. By down times mean that the network connection suddenly lost. I get the no signal sign where the reception bar is. It says no service in the status bar and I cant do any network related functions such as calling, sms, recive calls and surf the web. The phone would randomly lose the connection and find it again. The down times started on short perios and get worse with time. Today my phone is mostly down and sometimes get reception. When I reboot when its down and check imei it says null/null. When it has connection the imei is normal. After short use on the phone it gors down again but the imei stays the same but goes to nnull after restart. I tried different operating systems it didnt help. Tried different methods of backing up and restoring efs, didnt help. Also I rwad a lot of no service symptoms but in none of them had the peoblem of random down and up times.
Tried anti virus and nothing was found.
Also I dont know if its relevant but at the beginning my system memory used to fill up during the down times. My hd filled up in 2 days while I didn't use the phone. I reset factory settings to clear thr hd (my system folder would grow until the entire hd was full). After formatting and installing different os. Today only the down time persists and it only get worse.
Please if you ever incountered this or have any info HELP ME!!!
Can anyone please help. I cant dolve this on my own. Am I the only one this happend to? If I have an invalid .nv_data or some other filebwrong in my efs folder would my phone be able to reconnect to the network every once in a while? Are there viruses that block phone communication? If it is a virus what should I look for? A specific file or folder on my phone (my phone is rooted and I have rooted explorer). Has anyone encountered anything like what I describe?
Since this problem happens from time to time, and it is not permanent, I guess that your IMEI number is intact.
Have you tried a different modem?
You could also try an official update of Sammy i.e. if you use 4.1.2, you could upgrade to 4.3 through OTA maybe
the same goes to me, i have similar problem with him, pls help us! :crying:
This has been bugging me for a while and google doesn't give me anyone with a similar problem.
After the second or third call I make, after a reboot, the cell network just drops. It's as if I was inside a tunnel, no signal.
If I go in Settings -> more... , the last item "Mobile networks" is greyed out and I can't access it.
It's like the chip came out or something and the OS doesn't find it... I don't know.
All I know is that a reboot returns the connection to the GSM network.... but that's inconvenient.
Does anyone know of a reason why this might happen? And how to fix ?
How old is your SIM card?
A friend of mine has the same problem and his SIM card is over 10 years old. I'm telling him to exchange it for a new one at his operator. When he finds time he'll do it. I can report back if it helped.

Please explain how to do that
Almost a year later.... sorry about being away.
A few months ago, my phone ran into some weird trouble and it did a full system reset...
I took advantage of that to unroot it and let an update install (which was available for a while, but refused to due to having the phone rooted).
Since that update, I don't remember suffering this problem any longer.
So yeah, just perform the official update, if you have one available:
- Settings -> About phone -> Software Update
I'm now on build number JZO54K, Software version E46010p-EUR-XX, kernel 3.4.0 and it just works.
So for the past literally 3 mmonths, I have been unable to send a picture message, or do anything "data" wise (chrome, playstore, play music, games that require a connection) while "on 4G LTE.
The interesting thing is this...when I flash Jasmin or Skydragon, it works for about 30 minutes, then it NEVER works again once I disable data then turn on wifi, then reverse it. All I get on Chrome is "ERR Name not resolved".
Ive seen that this is a APN problem but I am unable to add one, and there is only one apn in the settings...does anybody have any idea how to fix this? I have unlimited data grandfathered in and I have been completely unable to use my phone outside of my house.
Any help is appreciated!
I understand I dont have signal in the screenshot...I had full bars at Kroger last night and was showing in amazement how I couldnt do anything but take pictures...lmao
Able to change APN in Cyanogenmod...
So I backed up my Skydragon rom, wiped everything off the phone, then flash Cyanogenmod 12 with Gapps and I have been able to get on the web and send MMS pictures ALL day even with toggling wifi/LTE and reboots...I also noticed that there is like 10 different APN's to choose from on Cyanogenmod AND I can MAKE a NEW one.
What gives?...
Ok...I lied. Getting error not resolved again...

I will guess it's a bad sim card. Call them and they may overnight one if they see you've used no data for three months, or stop into one of the dreaded Verizon stores and pick one up.
I completely wiped my phone before Installation of Cyanogenmod and had data for like an hour, and i completely wiped my phone again and reinstalled Jasmine, and i've had data for 2 hours now. I'm trying to test slowly where data quits connecting. It will SHOW 4G, full bars, but can't use it...it just says not connected to data and bla blah blah

Go check to ensure you have an IMEI number. If that is blank or all zeros, that could be the issue.
If so, getting a new sim card might fix it (just go into the VZW store and it should be free) but I would flash back to stock first or they will refuse to help you. Or you can restore it yourself manually. Or, if you're IMEI number is still there, then you'll still need to flash back to stock before going into VZW to get a new SIM card.
I've had it where I flashed back to stock using a TOT file and it wiped my IMEI number for some reason (the next time I did, it didn't wipe it so go figure).
Go to the following link (if you're IMEI number is wiped) to fix it. Hopefully, you still have your box the phone came in. Otherwise, you can remove the battery and find the number on a sticker in the battery compartment:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58915450&postcount=3
In that post, I explain how to restore your IMEI number.
I found the fix.
Okay so they recommend after booting a rom to let it sit for 10 minutes. I found in my case that this does NOT work. After multiple testing scenarios and a few weeks I discovered I need to let my phone sit for 30 minutes. Thats phone wiped, Jasmine installed with mods and all the shebang, and after you hit reboot phone set a timer somewhere to NOT touch your phone for 30 minutes and Data has never failed me. Now it is ENTIRELY diffrrent from letting it set to 10 minutes. My family has 6 G3's and 3 of us would flash with a ten Minute sit, and 3 with a 30 minute sit and we had almost PERFECT results with this.
Im not expert but I think its not giving the phone enough time to call for apns for the phone anf since you cant ADD any, you S.O.L. until you fix it.
We usually have 2 bars of 4G where we live so I almost wonder if its because of that. But you think two bars would be enough in 10 minutes to grab the proper apns.
Once again, 6 phones. 3 different houses. All samr results.
Wasnt a bad sim card...wasnt a imei wipe. It was NOT enough time letting the rom sit.
