AI Type Keyboard - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

for those looking for a better tap-style keyboard, I would strongly suggesting trying out "AI Type". They have a free beta on the market right now:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.aitype.android&feature=search_result
I spent the $5 and got the full version because I find myself typing faster on this keyboard than compared to any of the swype-style keyboards (and I've tried them all).
Just thought I would share my experiences with this app. I loved the swype keyboard but this beats it, by far, IMO.

Thumb Keyboard

Wow, I highly recommend this keyboard, it works great and is really easy to type on and has very good text correction and prediction. It works way better than the stock keyboard imo.

Agreed. I had thumb keyboard on my Xoom before I returned it and loved it. Got it on my Tab now. Good looking out.
yeah....same here...the best.
I made a review about it 2 weeks ago on the Galaxy tab.
Its fantastic.Highly recommended
sure will give it a try first

Makes typing with both hands much easier. Takes alittle bit to get used to it. Either way.....much better then stock keyboard.

Edit...OK this keyboard rocks. Once you get the hang off it its lightning fast.
Purchased the app after reading this thread...
So worth it.
I love this app. I bought it when the Xoom came out and now i cant stand using the regular keyboard layout. I can type so much fast with my two thumbs, and you don't have to set the tablet down to type.
* Make sure you go into Settings - Layout Keyboard... Custom Layout or Predefined layout and change it to Tablet: 10" Layout settings for best the layout in my opinion.
good app.It is much better and convenient than the stock keyboard.
Yeah if you don't use this on your tablet you are a glutton for punishment. This app is amazing, best keyboard I've found for a tablet.
It feels like a love-fest in here, but to be honest ... I agree.
I bought this app too. I can type much faster using this rather than stock. I only wish that there was an option to reduce the size of the keyboard to make less travel between keys.
So can anyone compare this with the swiftkey beta that seems similar?

Ok, I can answer my own question now, I went ahead and grabbed a copy of Thumb Keyboard. If you set to the 10" tablet layout, in landscape mode at least, the layouts are pretty similar. Thumb looks less tacky because the tablet swiftkey x beta only has a neon theme that I really dislike. Thumb feels more precise somehow, hard to quantify that, and certainly seems more responsive. It offers quite a few more choices for what word you might be wanting to complete, but it's completely missing the swiftkey feature that's sometimes nice, which is guessing the next word you want to type before you start typing it - it does this by analyzing your past conversations from gmail, facebook, etc. It's actually spookily good that that sometimes - you can type an entire sentence by just picking suggested "next" words.
That being said, I'm finding that thumb seems a bit faster for me at least in my limited initial testing. Think I'll keep it for a while and see how it goes. The main limitation of a tablet for me (as a laptop replacement or at least supplement) is ability to generate text rapidly; while this doesn't get me anywhere near the speed I can achieve on a "real" keyboard, it's a step in the right direction.
Thanks y'all for the recommendation.

In the settings you can reduce the size of the left and right keyblocks.
Didn't notice that. So much better, thanks.

the first app i installed on mine
I just bought it and it owns everything else for tablets.
Just an FYI this app is on sale now, HALF PRICE! According to the market page as of 6/21/11 it is on sale for €0.99 (about $1.42 USD). I have yet to use it but if it is as good as all of these reviews say then I am sure I would be pleased. But I figured I would let you know for those of you who were sitting on the fence due to the cost, now's your chance to save a little bit.

UPDATE: okay so I have been using Thumb Keyboard a lot this evening and I have to agree that it is awesome. I was skeptical and holding out for SwiftKey to release their final tablet friendly version but I am glad I purchased this. Functionality in portrait mode as well as landscape mode is top notch. This is also extremely customizable with skins and keypress sounds. While it does not have the text prediction capability of SiftKey it definitely is a must have for any tablet owner.
I must admit that this keyboard rocks. Plus its on sale. Can't go wrong for that dollar fifty.

[Q] How is the GTab 10.1 now? (Previous owner)

Hey guys. So I got a GTab 10.1 when it came out in June but ended up returning it cause Honeycomb felt slow and laggy, and as many would say, not ready for primetime. Since then, I've also tried the HTC Flyer, which I ended up returning due to lack of apps since its running Gingerbread so it only has like a tiny subset of the hundred Honeycomb apps.
Overall I didn't have a a good experience with Android tablets so I turned to iOS. I've never owned any iOS devices before and recently got an iPad 2 as my first. I like how I can type on it with all my fingers like it was a full sized keyboard on the smart cover typing angle. I use it for mostly couch potato style web browsing, reading news apps, and watching videos. The lack of flash is also quite annoying (I ordered dominos and got the wrong toppings lol).
With the recent Touchwiz on the GTab 10.1, I am revisiting this forum to see if I should make the switch back to Android. Particularly interested to hear if any of the problems still exist.
Is the keyboard lag when typing in the browser still there, after Touchwiz?
I am able to type with all my fingers like a full sized keyboard on the iPad. I forgot to try this when I owned the GTab. Does anyone do this, and is the GTab's keyboard able to pick up fast typing on its multi-touch keyboard? I know the GTab keyboard has multi-touch but I don't remember how smooth it is.
Anyone with experience with jailbroken iOS devices, does in-app purchases work with apps from Cydia? I just want to know the accessibilty of apps on both platforms.
Anyone with experience on these two tablets, got any recommendations on which one I should stick with? Thanks for your time.
TouchWiz comes with Swype. While I never likes Swype on my phone, it works great on the Tab. Who would have thought?
There's no lag.

I am not really a fan of Swype, like the touch typing more. I've seen a video on Swype but I rather be using all that real estate for all finger typing like a real keyboard. What about the regular keyboard, no lag for that as well?

I must say that I agree with you. However, I'm amazed at how useful Swype is on the Tab. I'm a fast touch typist and have found that Swype, while not as fast, is very useful. It's especially useful in a "lean back" scenario where you don't have a table to set it on for two handed typing.
The biggest difference between the iPad and Android is that you get a choice. When you get to a screen where input is required and the keyboard pops up, you have that little keyboard icon in the notification area. In only a few seconds you can choose the appropriate input method for the given scenario. I have 7 keyboards installed and use some of them frequently and some none at all. I almost never use the stock Android keyboard which, by the way, resembles the iPad's keyboard the most.
With iPad there's no choice. With Android it's up to you.

[Q] Stock Honeycomb keyboard?

While I'm waiting for my keyboard dock to come in, I'm using the ASUS on-screen keyboard, which is a pile of crap. Is there a way to get the stock Honeycomb keyboard, or should I look for a third party keyboard in the market?
you can change it in the settings, under language to get the stock one. im still searching for a better one than both of those. so far, its go kb...
The stock keyboard is way better than the Asus one for me, too. But which is the best tablet keyboard out there?
I've seen recommendations for Swiftkey-X for Tablets, and for "Thumb Keyboard." Both are paid apps, so I've been hesitant without a solid recommendation. I know there are others too.
What's best?
Yeah asus keyboard sux. I'm using the slideIt keyboard now. works great and fast. a lot faster to slide in portrait mode than in landscape. I have big hands but thiswidescreen is even to wide for me to type easily like on my iPad.

Took me a while to find it, but thanks. Much better now.
I just read a review comparing SwiftKey and Thumb. Even though I love Swift on my phone, Thumb won out because it's cheaper and MUCH more configurable. From just a little bit of use, I'm definitely liking it.
had the og transformer, and thumb keyboard is the best! Also has a bunch of themes so looks nice too.

You guys could get the swype beta, it's cool, in landscape mode, it can turn into a small little keyboard that you can move from side to side, and use with one hand. Just go on swype .com to get it

Best keyboard?

Hey guys and gals,
I'm trying to find the best keyboard app for our phone, as it seems like I keep having issues typing on the phone without deleting and retyping a gazillion times.
What are your suggestions?
Thanks a gazillion.

Swype, no question.
I'm not a huge fan of Swype, I guess it's either you love it or you don't. I like the ICS keyboard if I'm going for more of a stock look or Swiftkey
Hard to beat the word predictions on Swiftkey. I only have to type about half the words if that much.
I don't have the same phone, but I find two to be top of class for their respective categories.
For slide keyboards that work by swiping, I find FlexT9 to be the best experience in terms of speed and slide recognition.
For a standard keyboard, my recommendation is always SwiftKey. My friend swears by Thumbkeyboard mentioned in another post.

I'm using FlexT9 right now. Works better on the Rez then Swype.
I use Hackers keyboard from the market.
I use Ice Cream sandwich keyboard from the market. Also, swiftkey is very good at prediction. I hate swype with a passion.
I've been trying lots and lots of different keyboards the last few months and still looking for the ideal one.
Used to use SwiftKey, but feel likes it lags behind too much on the Rezound when typing fast, plus the theme's it has (only 4) stink and the font is too small (especially when in the sunlight). Swype is good, but just way too short in my opinion and cannot be height adjusted like a lot of others out there. I'd probably use that one if they added custom height options...
Use SmartKeyboard Pro probably the most, and lately use UltraKeyboard too - lots of themes available, can make it nice and tall, and can swipe it too (not as accurate as Swype though). But need to dial down the key vibration setting or it'll lag.
Use SwiftKey !! It is really fast
Smart keyboard pro. Lots of themes and awesome multitouch.

Loving the Swype!
The 8Pen. Don't knock it until you try it.

+1 for the ICS keyboard. The one from VLLWP.
I like stock keyboard with trace on

Used to use swype on the eris. Seems like the longer it was out, the worse it got. Swiftkey is the only one I'll run. Predictions are so dead on it's like it's reading my mind sometimes! Saves so many keystrokes it's not even funny.
i have honestly tried a good majority of the ones mentioned and i like swift key and swype the best, though on swype i have it set for more accuracy as opposed to speed.
I'm sticking with a stock ICS keyboard for now, can't seem to enjoy anything else currently.

Better Keyboard 8

I have been using better keyboard 8 since shortly before it dissapeared from the android market/play store. I like it so much I have never even bothered to look at other keyboards. I was surprised at how many other keyboard options there were now. So what are the top keyboards nowadays? Are there any similar to better keyboard 8?

We had been using better keyboard as well and recently found Kii Keyboard in the market. It is still in beta and you can use the premium features for free while it is. We both downloaded it and deleted it once because we didnt like it at first, Then we tried it again and played with the settings, and wont go back to better keyboard. You can even use all your better keyboard skins with it. Check it out, it is pretty nice.

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried swiftkey and didn't like it at all. Kii was okay, but I still prefer BK8. I think I will continue to stick with that.
Personally I just use the stock aosp 4.2 keyboard on sense. If I do use a 3rd party though, Kii is my favorite.
Switched from Swiftkey to Kii a few weeks ago. So far haven't gone back. There is so many customizable options with this keyboard. New update this morning allowing us to use encoded emoji w/o rooting (this app you can actually see them, no foreign characters) meaning developers are listening. It's just an awesome app and still in the beta stages. I'd recommend this one. At least give it a try for a week or so. Biggest issue initially was prediction but it seems to be getting easier the more I type it is becoming accustomed to my style, similar to Swiftkey as well. hth
