I have been using better keyboard 8 since shortly before it dissapeared from the android market/play store. I like it so much I have never even bothered to look at other keyboards. I was surprised at how many other keyboard options there were now. So what are the top keyboards nowadays? Are there any similar to better keyboard 8?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm trying Swiftkey now and it's really nice.
We had been using better keyboard as well and recently found Kii Keyboard in the market. It is still in beta and you can use the premium features for free while it is. We both downloaded it and deleted it once because we didnt like it at first, Then we tried it again and played with the settings, and wont go back to better keyboard. You can even use all your better keyboard skins with it. Check it out, it is pretty nice.

Also if you are a SwiftKey vip member you can get the new SwiftKey flow. Just like swype but with the predictions of SwiftKey

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried swiftkey and didn't like it at all. Kii was okay, but I still prefer BK8. I think I will continue to stick with that.
Personally I just use the stock aosp 4.2 keyboard on sense. If I do use a 3rd party though, Kii is my favorite.
Switched from Swiftkey to Kii a few weeks ago. So far haven't gone back. There is so many customizable options with this keyboard. New update this morning allowing us to use encoded emoji w/o rooting (this app you can actually see them, no foreign characters) meaning developers are listening. It's just an awesome app and still in the beta stages. I'd recommend this one. At least give it a try for a week or so. Biggest issue initially was prediction but it seems to be getting easier the more I type it is becoming accustomed to my style, similar to Swiftkey as well. hth

for those looking for a better tap-style keyboard, I would strongly suggesting trying out "AI Type". They have a free beta on the market right now:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.aitype.android&feature=search_result
I spent the $5 and got the full version because I find myself typing faster on this keyboard than compared to any of the swype-style keyboards (and I've tried them all).
Just thought I would share my experiences with this app. I loved the swype keyboard but this beats it, by far, IMO.

+1 I just installed this a week ago, and I am totally into it.
Ok so i hate the stock asus keyboard on this thing. What do you guys suggest for an alternate?
I love swype on my evo 3d but i hear that it doesnt work that great on the prime. I would like a good swype alternate or a split keyboard.
All suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I have been using swift key tablet. It works great for me. There is a 30 day trial on the market
I dont really care about keyboards since im going to be keeping mine docked most of the time.. but my wife loves Slide IT. It is pretty much Swype for tablet. It is normally $5.99 I think but right now its on sale for $0.99 Has lots of nice free themes all over the market too.
https://market.android.com/details?...t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5kYXN1ci5zbGlkZWl0Il0.
Try A.I.type keyboard.
I used it alot on my HP touchpad (running android). It was very good. Just got my prime this morning and haven't had a chance to do too much with it other than update it to ICS.
here is the Link
I've now used Swype (doesn't fit the screen and a pop-up message to that effect comes up every time you type something). It does work in landscape mode, but not at all in portrait -- you end up with something entirely different than the keys you swyped or tapped. So that was a no go.
I've been using Thumb Keyboard for a few days, but it doesn't work all that well for me, especially since there seem to be many times when I'm holding the device and need to type one-handed. So, it's better than stock, but not perfect for me.
Now I'm using SlideIT, with the metal blue skin that matches ICS perfectly. It's beautiful, fits both landscape and portrait modes flawlessly, and works like a charm.
Unless and until Swype releases a version that works with the Prime's screen resolution, I'm sticking with SlideIT.
I use Swift X Key Tablet
I also have THumb Keyboard which is great but seems like its not as fast as Swiftkey X

I'm the developer of Thumb Keyboard and I'm very interested in this. Do you mean that the performance of TKB is worse or are you referring to the text prediction?
The strategy of Thumb Keyboard is to have user adjustable layouts so that typos are reduced to a minimum. (So correction can be reduced to a miminum). In particular for the Transformer there's an option to adjust the width of the two halves so that the keys are reachable despite the large bezel.
I'm working on a new update (version 5) that will make use of the advanced spelling engine of Ice cream sandwich. Tests have shown that these are as powerful as AI prediction.
flext9 better than sywpe in my opinion
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nuance.flext9.input&hl=en
The ASUS keyboard can function the same way Swype does, you just have to enable it in the settings. Having said that, I use Thumb Keyboard.
I am a using SwiftKey x on phone and tablet. The tablet version has a split keyboard which I am trying to get to grips with.. The phone version is great.

hey guys - I use the phone version and I LOVE it. I installed the free trial on my prime just now but it doesn't pick up what I'm typing. If I'm typing quickly, it skips letters unless I slow down. Do any of you have this issue? It makes it impossible to type on!
Gonna try an uninstall/reinstall real quick.
edit: no go might just give up on this
I like SwiftKey Tablet X.. Works great and like the word prediction and split keybord.
Haven't had any problems. You with problem have you download the correct one? and have you tried to type in different apps/place so there isn't the program you uses that make the SwiftKey to perform bad.

No I dont have this problem but i do not do much typing where i am speed typing. My biggest gripe, which is not the keyboards fault, is the autp rotation is too sensitive. Many times i am typing something slightly move the screen and rotates and i lose my spot or completely lose what i'm typing because i hit the back button.
On my phone (Desire with CM7) I use and love Swype. I understand that an ICS-compatible version will be available at the end of January. That said, I can see that it won't be as neat on the Prime's form factor. We'll see.
In the mean while I'm using Thumb Keyboard 4, on the recommendation of another thread on this forum. Current view: the best of the bunch; fairly good but has some flaws (e.g. doesn't auto-capitalise "I", no visible key for a comma; auto-complete/correct doesn't feel quite as smooth as I'd like). Also doesn't suit my fat fingers
In short I really miss Swype, but fear that it won't be quite as good as on my phone, particularly in landscape.

I wholeheartedly agree
It's the best keyboard I've used. Swype and the likes aren't very efficient on tablets.
I'm loving thumb keyboard as well. I even started using it over HTC ime on my phone, which I have used for a year and a half on my Droid X, t bolt, and bionic.
I am not the developer of thumb keyboard and i have every app mentioned here and then some. Hands down thumb keyboard for tablets. Not even close. Having the options for split keyboard and for a half screen keyboard for when you are walking around cradling the tablet with one hand and typing with the other is the greatest. No other feature can be more valuable.

NOTE: I haven't received my Note yet, so I can't test it out. I thought I'd share and see if anyone has any feedback.
This keyboard is usually very good for tablets (it's really nice on my CM7.2 Nook Color), so I thought it might be nice on our Notes, if only landscape.
Code:

Let me know!
I tried it just now. Its a pretty awesome concept but I found the buttons too small for the note. I tried 4 row and 5 row setups. I think part of the problem is that I have larger hands.

Yeah, I thought it'd be too small for even our Note. I'll probably install it and save it for a backup because it would likely be good for CMD/Terminal usage with all the extra functions (such as tab and escape). Thanks for the feedback by the way!
downloaded it this morning. used it all day. i got used to it but it did take me a while to get it set up like i wanted to. all in all, i like it.
I was using Thumb keyboard on the Streak until I started having some significant issues with it. Went to the Hacker's keyboard, and installed it as soon as I got sick of the built-in keyboard not having numbers on it. Been on it for a while now with no complaints.
I use hacker's KB whenever I use a terminal emulator and it works fine. Best I've found on the note so far though is perfect keyboard. Samsung was too damn big, and I like a split KB in landscape usually.

Ive tried a few keyboards so far and Perfect Keyboard has been my favorite. it has a nice ICS feel to it, and does the split keyboard in landscape like i was hoping.
I will try this Hackers KB tho, but Perfect Keyboard has been my Daily Driver for a while.

Swype, no question.
I'm not a huge fan of Swype, I guess it's either you love it or you don't. I like the ICS keyboard if I'm going for more of a stock look or Swiftkey
Hard to beat the word predictions on Swiftkey. I only have to type about half the words if that much.
I don't have the same phone, but I find two to be top of class for their respective categories.
For slide keyboards that work by swiping, I find FlexT9 to be the best experience in terms of speed and slide recognition.
For a standard keyboard, my recommendation is always SwiftKey. My friend swears by Thumbkeyboard mentioned in another post.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
I'm using FlexT9 right now. Works better on the Rez then Swype.
I use Hackers keyboard from the market.
I use Ice Cream sandwich keyboard from the market. Also, swiftkey is very good at prediction. I hate swype with a passion.
I've been trying lots and lots of different keyboards the last few months and still looking for the ideal one.
Used to use SwiftKey, but feel likes it lags behind too much on the Rezound when typing fast, plus the theme's it has (only 4) stink and the font is too small (especially when in the sunlight). Swype is good, but just way too short in my opinion and cannot be height adjusted like a lot of others out there. I'd probably use that one if they added custom height options...
Use SmartKeyboard Pro probably the most, and lately use UltraKeyboard too - lots of themes available, can make it nice and tall, and can swipe it too (not as accurate as Swype though). But need to dial down the key vibration setting or it'll lag.
Use SwiftKey !! It is really fast
Smart keyboard pro. Lots of themes and awesome multitouch.

+1 for the ICS keyboard. The one from VLLWP.
I like stock keyboard with trace on
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
Used to use swype on the eris. Seems like the longer it was out, the worse it got. Swiftkey is the only one I'll run. Predictions are so dead on it's like it's reading my mind sometimes! Saves so many keystrokes it's not even funny.
i have honestly tried a good majority of the ones mentioned and i like swift key and swype the best, though on swype i have it set for more accuracy as opposed to speed.
I'm sticking with a stock ICS keyboard for now, can't seem to enjoy anything else currently.
Its here. Swiftkey Flow Beta. Not bad at all. I wish the trail was a little darker but works great.

I'm trying it out and love it. I also have the paid version of Swiftkey Tablet which has the flow function in it but it looks like the version number is 1 behind. Going to play with both over the next few days to see if there are any other differences, and if there are-purchase the Swiftkey Flow once it comes out of Beta.
I haven't decided if I like it better. It seems to be picky with my words. Changing certain ones when it shouldn't. But, I'll give it more time before I switch back to Swype.
I am most defintely purchasing it when it's out of beta. I've always been a huge supporter of SwiftKey. The keyboard is amazing! Simply said, I can type amazingly fast with it with the power of prediciton and Swype. The only thing I miss is swyping right-left to delete words.
So will Flow be a separate product from Swiftkey? In other words will current owners of Swiftkey 3 be required to purchase Flow or will it be provided as an app upgrade?
How do you enable the Swype style where you can draw the words instead of typing out?
question is are you typing faster flowing or swift keying? I'm still getting use to flow and find that i can type faster with presses and predictive text

Im sure it will be a seperate product. Unless we ***** and maybe they will do a discount or something.
Does anyone know a "swipe" type of keyboard that supports one-handed input? I'm referring to the keyboard setting that makes the keyboard skinnier and bumps it against the left or right side. Swiping is great on a smaller phone, but these larger tablets can be fatiguing trying to swipe all across the bigger screen.
Thats a good question
The Samsung stock keyboard that comes with the Note 2.
