I pressed thanks by accident, at least look for what you need and check the rom topics for info.

i looked danlivesey the issue is you can find the tool but what is the starting point for Android modding i mean what rom should i use as base for modding for Xperia x10 mini pro U20i. this is what i meant sorry for not make it clearer...
Starting point is root your phone, then install clockworkmod recovery, back up your phone data through cwm recovery and then chose a custom rom from dev section.
Then copy custom rom to sd card, do a full system wipe through cwm recovery and flash rom through cwm recovery. You will need to flash modules as well due to you using stock kernel.
If you cant find how to root your phone or anything else just let me know.

well i did all that before danlivesey my target is to put my programming knowledge with you guys and start helping producing good ROMs for the fone together using the latest Android OS in the market. so my question is how and where to start to develop roms and what tools do i need to correctly have a rom that i could Mod it correctly and then upload it here to XDA. thanks for answering me danlivesey.

DON'T FORGET TO TAKE A BACKUP via xRecovery!!!
Make sure you have the correct baseband number and kernel version (I mean, meet all the requariments the ROM asks) with the ROM you want to install.
If you have any other problems, pm me and I'll guide you exactly form the point you stuck.

Hi folks,
I know there are other threads on the forum 'bout this, but there is none that answers my question. I just ported CW recovery to LG Optimus one (it's still not official, so it's not recheable trought the app) and would like to find a way to install it via ROM MANAGER. I think this could be useful because could allow people not so expert to install it.
Have you ever tried? I thought one could download a recovery from ROM MANAGER, and substitute the downloaded recovery with the right one, then install.
Ever anyone tried this? How about ROM MANAGER? worths the effort?
Flashing a recovery through Rom manager is only temporary and only works if you boot into it with Rom manager, otherwise a reboot makes it go back to what ever recovery you have installed.

Hi all senior xda-developers XD
I'm new on Android.
I'm using SE Xperia Neo running GingerBread 2.3.4 build 4.0.2.A.0.62 with unlocked bootloader without root.
I try to installing Cyanogen 7 on my Neo but it always failed just reboot, reboot, reboot and reboot..
I have follow the wiki on the Cyanogen site when installing it, i try it 2 times and got the same result so i relock the BL and back to original stock firmware
Can someone tell me what's going wrong? or should i root it first before installing Cyanogen?
Have you flashed kernel with fast boot yes
Sent from my MT15i using xda premium
No, because i don't know how to flash kernel and it is not on the Cyanogen installation wiki.
So, i need to flash the kernel first?

Here you go!Follow those step and you get cm7
So, "flash new kernel (always use the kernel provided in CM7 / it is incompatible with stock ROM)
ON PC - run fastboot flash boot boot.img (an black window will open and will stay open untill kernel is flashed)" this step is called flash kernel?
I've done it.. It said extract the CM7 packed and place the boot.img file on the same folder with Fastboot then run the command.
I just forgot whether i have wipe the data or not XD
Btw sorry for my english..
Anyway i read this:
" Hi all
Am a newbie in android things n just read here n there for info bout rooting
So i have a few things to clear out if some1 can help me sort out
1: Do i have to root my se neo if i wana put cm7 ?
2: Does rooting mean i can delete useless apps (not added ones nor dwnloaded ones) frm the firmware so that i can free rams in ma fone?
thx 4 reply
Hello
1.yes you need to root and unlock boot loader to use cm7
2.yes,after rooting using file manager like Root explorer you can delete unwanted apps aka bloatware"

I am trying to build a CWM for an Xperia Ion, but there is not enough information for a noob like me to find the recovery image. If anyone is will to help I would appreciate much. I have tried a varity of methods and none were complete enough for me to start build anything other than the recovery.fstab.
Try extracting stock rom for your mobile... Find stock rom for.it somewhere... Samsung users get them from samfirmware.com but i dont know about sony xperia... You can use builder.clockworkmod.com for building cwm recovery for it...

I got the stock firmware, but it looking for the recovery image. Do I just load the whole firmware there? The stuff is a little different from Samsung stuff - it uses ftf files.
Follow me: find a phone that have the same resolution (1280x720, so Galaxy Nexus or other) and flash it with fastboot (I do it with LG GT540 using P500 recovery, because P500 has 320x480 resolution as GT540). (I do not assume responsibility for damage, I'm just proposing an idea)

I tried the files are very hard to extract. They are not normal image filies and split_bootimage.pl doesn't work on them due to no android magic.
I got a mostly working version using the CWM from the Xperia S:

but it is unstable and crashes during backup. Any thoughts on how to fix?

This should be in the Q&A section, and what is really good really depends on what you want from your phone. Not sure if you couldn't find anything, or didn't like what you did find...
Well, as I said, I want the best one, faster, less bugs, etc... As there is GingerDx v31 for x8, it's pretty good
Bump

No he doesn't, not for just a custom ROM anyway, and he already said he can't unlock his bootloader.
Start with this one, it's the last MiniCM7 by nAa which ran on stock kernel, based on Gingerbread 2.3.5.

Get this (ClockWorkMod) and put it on your sd-card
Put the ROM on your sd-card too
Get flashtool (It's in the first post in the x10mini dev section)
Install it
If you do NOT have Sony Update Service or PC Companion then:
Install flashtool-drivers from the drivers subfolder and choose E10i Xperia X10Mini
Press the Padlock button in flashtool, this will root your phone
Press the Swiss flag (Plus) button in flashtool, this will install xRecovery
Choose Tools - Reboot - Recovery - Reboot default recovery
On your phone: Choose 'Install zip from sd-card' - Choose custom zip
Select CWM-recovery-3.2.0.0-r3-x10mini-Amend.zip
Select yes
Reboot your phone and press the back-button repeatedly just before and when the sony ericsson logo appears.
Choose backup and restore - backup (This will back up your current system and data so you can get it back later should you want to)
Choose Install zip from sd-card - Choose custom zip
Select MiniCM7-2.0.7.zip
Select yes
Do: Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache
In the advanced submenu: Wipe Dalvik-cache
Reboot the phone and enjoy your new ROM
(You will have lost all your user-data so maybe it's a good idea to back up at least your contact-list to sd-card, which can be done when you enter the contacts app and press the menu-button, it will create a file on your sd-card that you can import again later.)

Oh.. and I think you need to find Google Apps for Gingerbread too if you want the play-store, flash them the way you flash the ROM,
Okay, I'll do it tomorrow. Thank you a lot for your help.

There is actually a custom ROM that does not require a unlocked bootloader, it runs with stock kernel. It is called MiniCM7Pro by BPaul. Google it.
