You can change the background by changing shade_bg.png in res/drawable-hdpi in systemui.apk to the image you want

changing shade_bg.png didnt work either

Hmm are you on a sense rom? If you upload your systemui I will take a look. All I changed in mine was shade_bg and ill attatch a picture of my status bar

It must be different for cdma than gsm. take the original systemui from your rom (so it doesnt have anything changed) then try changing statusbar_background.png (like previously said) and also status_bar_background. in systemUI

Ok, first of all make sure you are on a deodexed rom, not odexed. Now, you will need to edit the status_bar_background.png (in SystemUI.apk) to the image that you want to use. Also, you will need to edit the status_bar_tracking.xml, telling it to use the status_bar_background.png as the background for your expanded status bar. So using my rom as an example, after I decompiled the SystemUI.apk I edited 2 lines in the status_bar_tracking.xml from this......
android:background="@drawable/list_item_background"
to this......
android:background="@drawable/status_bar_background"
This is how it looked when I was done.....

With Root Explorer, copy and paste from the included folder to system/xxx/ and set permissions to rw-w-w.

Theming MMS, etc.

All I really want to do is make the icon that shows up in the status bar look like the main icon of the MMS app. I have done what I did in gingerbread to do it, but the icon looks really tiny when I do this on ICS. Is there something special I have to do?

for ICS, no. for HD devices like the rezound, yes.
Theres a folder in res called drawable-xhdpi. this is where you need to change your icons. youll notice, they are all larger than the icons in the hdpi folder. this is for HD screens.
the icons for the status bar need to be 50x50 pixles

maybe. if they arent sized right it may resort back tot eh drawable-hdpi folder with the smaller icons
resize them to 50x50 and try it
Im trying to theme the colors alone, I was able to get the apk and the only way I could make some changes was by using 7zip to extract the contents of the apk to a folder, I made my modifications I wanted to, and now what? How do I put it back to .apk type file or make it a flash able zip if at all possible?

I'm working on that at the moment, although it's a bit slow. The clock needs to be in the icons linear layout, this will make it move out of the way when a notification comes. But it's how to combine that and having it centered that's currently eluding me.
I can get the clock to the left of the status icons, or the left of the screen, but not in the center.

[MOD] WALKMAN Transparent

So. This mod I made as an addition to Reboot&Transparent mode, but without it he is working on a standard framework.
Works on ICS: Sola\U
- Transparency
- It is based on Xperia T
- Icon walkman app from Xperia V
- A vertical bar Xperia V style (looked at how to do AeonWorld)
Preview transparency on stock framework:

}
Preview transparency on Reboot&Transparent mode
Install via CWM, or:
1. Put the apk file from the archive to the system\
2. Set permissions (Root Explorer):
R-W-0
R-0-0
R-0-0
3. And move it to the system\app

Small apps and Walkman are not connected. These are different things.
can u post up simple tutorials on how to change and sign the apk, i tried to change some png in the res/drawable folder and some xml editing, but i cant mange to signed it, it wont install when i put back to app folder, appreciate your help and thx.
Thank ^^
Just installing this apk in system/app doesn't give one transparency. Right?
What I thought was, to try and get the transparency mod, walkman and small apps to work at the same time. But no success.
Small apps force closes. Other than taht, everything else is working just fine. Small apps are too cool to compromise....

No. Transparency will in any case. But if you do not put modes: background music player will be in your default theme, see the first screenshot.
But if you put a mod Reboot&Transparens, yes, small apps will not work.
It's just a modified player...

1-If this background is a .9.png drawable, find a transparent .9.png drawable or create it yourself and change with inside apk.
2-Decompile apk and find this drawable's name on one xml file. android:background="xxxx"
transparent color code is #00000000 . so change background. >> android:background="#00000000".
Or we must think for another ways.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42417072&postcount=5 First link from this post, just copy apk file with root explorer to system/app,delete old one, restart and i think that is enough for install. If not:
Downoad apk and copy it to SDCARD.
run root explorer on your phone and move apk from /sdcard to /system part. be sure you have root access. r/w on top.
After movement, long press to apk and select permissions;
set ticks to
VV-
V--
V--
like this. (rw-r-r) total 4 ticks. all other empty.
Then long press to apk and move to /app folder in /system. ( total path is /system/app/)
Change with existing one if you have this widget on your phone.
Reboot phone.
Thats all.
