how many of you still using stock 2.1 ROM ?
Sometimes if I've screwed up my phone (rare) I'll get back on the stock ROM and I kind of like it. I think the stock SE style is elegant and beautiful, and I like many of the stock apps. I just like the features of 2.3 and the inbuilt efficiency of 2.3 etc. I always try to get some stock SE styles on the newer ROMS, and try hard to get as many stock apps as possible.
Unless I'm slightly dim and missed something, I CANNOT use the stock Cyanogen calendar without connecting to the internet. That is NOT a calendar option. Having to connect to the internet to just look at a date is just stupid and not a benefit from the stock ROM.

I had minicm7 for while but I went back to stock, besides the stability I just missed the UI
I just hate stock 2.1 and how it looks and feels. MiniCM7 2.1.3 w/ stock kernel is a LOT faster and generally better than 2.1 ever was/will be. My phone is as stable as it can be. I have left it at stock overclock which is 691Mhz and it NEVER reboots.
Only time it does reboot, is when I force it to.
I still use it, but is because both xRecovery and CWM have problems. Tried everthing to make it work again, but nothing happens.
There are no problems with CWM and x10 mini pro.
A better version of the original UI (theme, launcher) can be found on the newer ROMs like MiniCM7 and Gintonic.

I do is a lot more faster!!
Probably this is just about the x10 mini, not pro. But i guess, the preinstalled OS and software are pretty much the same, although i had a 1.6 when i bought it.
I was using this for a quite long time, roundabout one year, as i was a bit uncertain to brick my device in case i screw up or don't read something carefully enough.
But on a boring day i went and gave it a try (MiniCM7 pro, iirc it was right when V14 was released). While fearing as f*ck during installation process and waiting until complete (showing no errors - YES ), i was totally happy afterwards. So no, i would never ever switch back to the standard software which Sony Ericsson released with this phone. It was slow, battery consuming and it had way less features than the custom ROM i'm using now. I'm happy with that.
I'm surprised by some of the responses - the thread title is primarilly aimed at those who use the original SE (at least a little or all of the time). No where in the title do I see an invitation to complain about stock 2.1 and advertise about the brilliance of other ROMs. Seriously, re-read the title...
Sorry for that - i thought the thread kind of indicated a discussion of why or why not use the stock rom. No offense meant
Still use the default ROM
I kinda like the ROM that originally came with the mobile, and still use it.
I ROOTed the mobile though, within one month of purchase, as the battery was a serious problem (due to autoruns).
After Rooting, I am able to get at least 1 day of battery.
There was even a time when the battery lasted for three days before it came to 5%.
(I put my phone on charge only when it reaches 5% or below )

(Rooted)
i only use stock when a custom rom is somewhat unstable then once a new release of one of my favorite roms come out i run for it and install it immediately and test it. if the rom is stable enough i keep it and stick with it.
for now i use stock rom until gintonic or minicm7 pro is stable enough to use it in all its features.
i'm planning to try gintonic 2.5.1 to continue testing of it
From the moment i buy this amazing phone i didn't like that blue background. At the moment i use mod black v 1.6 from flex96 and when slade87 add Zombiepanic to his rom gin tonic.SE. I'll use this one

I have miniCM7-2.1.3 and a HTC sense Theme it´s much better then the Stock
I like stock rom because of radio, timescape, works all the applications, no lag etc but i have minicm7 because i need dsp and ultra brightness (especially the second is very important here in Greece with the sun) so ..

Just bought this phone (Sony Xperia x10) for my wife, after I smashed her Samsung galaxy S 4G during an argument last night. I ordered it overnight shipping so it should be here by Monday or Tuesday.
Now there were no custom roms out at the time she had her Galaxy 4G, so it was only rooted.
Yet after visiting the development section for this phone it looks like there are tons of roms being cooked up for this one, so I just wanted to get a few opinions on what roms are worth flashing? I'm looking for speed and stability above all. Its for my wife, so I want to be able to just flash something for her and never bother updating and flashing again for a month or two months at a time. Now if it were my phone I'd be flashing every other day! But that's only because I can handle bugs, beta testing, and known issues so on and so forth. Women though, they just want their phone to work, period. So what's the most stable rom to flash for the x10? Any insight, suggestions, heads up, and links would help, as I haven't got my hands on it yet, I want to go ahead and research as much as I can about it, so I can root, flash, and customize it for her right out of the box. Thanks.
cobratos miui is REALLY good...
Wolfbreaks cm 6.1.3 is also fantastic
I flashed cm 7 gb onto my gf's htc wildfire. Its completeley stable. She gets like 2 or 3 fc's every few days and guess what.......she still bloody moans lol.
Anyway back on topic....i vote for wolfs cm 6.1.3. Super stable, bug free and must be close to final release.
for stability i recommend z's freex10 roms
for eyecandy i recommend cobratos miui (my daily rom, fairly stable, has few bugs)
the stock 2.1 rom is not bad at all, just gotta optimize it a bit (remove bloatware, enable JIT, Sysctl, compucache, build.prop mods)....i think there are a few 2.1 roms with these mods already in place, however i havent used a 2.1 rom for a long time
if she wants take advantage of the nice camera on the x10, i recommend going the 2.1 route as the camera interface and quality is the best with stock 2.1 (IMO)

Since it is for your wife I recommend android 2.1. There are some nice girly themes out here for it, and she won't freak out of bugs.
Hi,
I've tested 5 roms :
-> original SE last update 2.1 : lot of lag
-> kX10 R2B001 - 03FEB1 : 2.1 rom modded : better than the official one : good but not for playing
-> 2.2.1 FROYO : very good but some bugs (like translation) and don't like the launcher, too slow for me : good for iphone lovers
-> Achotjan_Froyo_2.2.1 : 2.2.1 rom modded : the best for me : it's french lol -> Actually, found no bug, the best for me : very stable, better than the official, very fast (BB58)

MIUI are good if you like the lay out of Iphone as that is what it looks like in respects..
Irun z's freex10 2.2b4 hotfix1 and data2sd. fast realiable basic... theme it with xfx10. and your done!
+1 for z freex10 beta 4 hotfix 1
Solid as a rock and lightning quick
For a little more customization I would recommend Wolfbreaks CM6.1.3
Maybe freex10 now and CM6.1.3 in a couple of months?? Just my opinion

vote for these two also, I'm using both as my daily roms.....
Use Trips MIUI (2.2.1)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013210
Its the BEST MIUI rom with fully working camera and camcorder.
I am using it as daily rom. It is super fast and smooth.
many devs says here that ROM is perfect and EVERYTHING works, the problem is the with the definition of EVERYTHING,its differnt for every dev,for major roms you cant use camcorder so cant use goggles, bar code scanner ,video cam in all settings, there are some walk troughs and ways but then you cant call it everything
just go with 2.1,modify the stock one ,thats the best option
you broke the last phone....if there are too many lags, your wife will smash the phone this time
for us its all ok,for your wife dont take any chance!!!

Not all women just want their phones to work, period Some of us can flash our own ROMs. I used z's Freex10 but prefer wolf's CM 6.1.3 since it's very fast and good on battery. However different people have different problems with the ROMs they flash and it's worth paying attention to instructions
I strongly recommend you take look at this thread: talk.sonyericsson.com/message/59415 . It has many good ROM's for the X10 with some good feedback.
I have personally tried the stock ROM with JIT enabled and removed bloatware (did everything needed to make it quick) it worked good but the battery life sucked. Then tried FreeX10 and its pretty good and quick but yet again battery life wasn't any better than the stock one. Then tried CM by Wolfbreak and its pretty darn good. Battery life is def better and so is speed.
Im going to be honest with you none of these ROM's are even close to perfect. They all have slight bugs, all force close once in a while.
So here's my advice, if your wife isnt exactly tech savy + likes to use features such as the camera and wifi alot than stick to the stock ROM and wait for SE's update this year.
If she is a problem solver (isnt afraid of using google to solve any problems she has) and doesnt want a phone that lags to often and has good battery life than go for Wolfbreaks CM 6.1.3. Although wifi and camera can pose problems sometimes on this ROM
Hope this helps

I feel like you guys are feeding him misinfo, I haven't had any force closes on either of the roms I posted, they were/are completely stable.
Hello,
a friend of mine just got an Xperia X10, and since she doesn't understand a thing abou technology or smartphones, she asked me to help her with it. I was wondering which ROM I should flash. She doesn't need something fast but buggy nor complicated, she needs something simple (I know, she needs an Iphone) and she doesn't need something that needs to be updated. So I was wondering, should she stick with the stock ROM or is there on I can flash for her? (Of course I'd prefer if she had Gingerbread but if it's too buggy, the stock ROM it will be). I'm asking for advice because I own an HD2 so I don't have a clue about X10 roms!
Thank you
Hello all,
I have a quite similar question.. i didnt flash my phone for the last 2,5 months since i use a quite stable rom now (only barcode scanner and video recording dont work).
I still use a stock kernel.
Now my question is, what rom is recommended at this moment that is:
1. stable (no rebooting etc)
2. can use a custom kernel (i like to have the 32fps cap removed)
3. is froyo or higher (i need adobe flash for my football stream watching)
4. has working wifi, bluetooth, gps, 3g, proximity sensor
there are so many rom varieties, that i dont know what to flash.
(in dutch we say: door de bomen het bos niet meer zien )
I think me and the above poster are looking for the same awnser (sorry for highjacking the thead buddy )
greets!!
Use freex10 beta 4 its the most stablest rom very good battery life i never had a single fc or bug nothing to say else then its running.froyo 2.2 and so far its the best out of the 10 roms i tried very simple nothing fancy

Read the threads, look at the screenshots and decide for yourself. FreeX10 is the base that all the 2.2 roms are built on, WB's 6.1.3 is a tweaked 2.2 with CyanogenMod settings and lots of tweaks already built in, MiUi roms are made to look like an iPhone without the normal android launchers, the CM7 and gingerbread ROMs are still missing some functionality. Its all just preference at this point, speed wise theyre all similar, most are relatively stable, it just depends what features and style you want. You could try a bunch of them and just make lots of backups and switch between all of them if you have a decent SD card.

It looks like you're the only one who actually read my post ^^ thanks I'm gonna try this
She could use the MIUI ROM of Trip, it's iPhonish and has some little bugs. (Very little) (Not the Gingerbread version since it's not as stable as Froyo)
ROM looks very sexy, fast, smooth etc... Easy to put some girly theme on.
Id suggest not flashing it. I've jailbroken friends iPod before and if anything goes wrong they come to me to fix it and they dont even appreciate the added functionality or use it. Chances are someone with little tech skills will appreciate the change. And if anything goes wrong you'll have to fix it. Unless there complaining about the phone I wouldn't flash it.

They are identical, built on the same engine, only the differences in design.
Sonybread is based on Android 2.3.5 and it looks like genuine ( original ) Sony Ericsson ROM ( blue screen, 4 corners with apps ). There is no ADW launcher.
MiniCM7 Pro is also based on Android 2.3.5, but it looks differently than Sony Ericsson ROM. It looks like, hmmmm, a Matrix phone. There is a ADW launcher.
In MiniCM7 Pro v7x battery last longer than in Sonybread 7 SP3. If Paul will fix battery drain issue on Sonybread, I recomend that ROM as it looks like a proper ROM from Sony Ericsson. Meanwhile, I recommend miniCM7 Pro because battery last longer.
Thank you for reading my post. Bye.

My experience is that SonyBread is much more stable. I havn't had a single reboot with this ROM over a period of 2 weeks. Had a 1 with minicm7 pro over a period of 2 weeks.
I started on this forum when Owain was still here pumping out daily updates for his ROM... havent posted much though
Firstly, BIG ups to the devs for their work on these ROMS. Although I have quite a few issues, I can honestly say that every rom Ive used, despite its issues, has been usable and has stayed on my phone very long (all except Sonybread, explanation to follow)
From the above, the only really bad issue ive experienced are reboots. From this, I can honestly say that the only time I have had these are at initial ROM setup eg on MiniCM6, I installed, then rebooted INTO CWM, then wiped twice, then rebooted into CWM and wiped twice again (kinda like my butt, but on my X10MP )to solve the issue. Each ROM Ive installed has had its drawbacks. Owain was pre- dualtouch; Slade_87s CM6 tends to develop a bad temper at initial install but mellowed after wiping its arse and if you install a theme it doesnt like and has some setup anomalies (easily addressed if you search); Pauls Sonybread looks like stock on steroids... but suffers from screen issues on my phone ie the screen becomes unresponsive and the only way to use the phone is to take the battery off (funny enough, the buttons all work fine!)
All the above are just opinions. As stated in another post, if you want useability, stability and support, stick with SE. However, if you want to be on the bleeding edge and actually us the superior hardware on your device (instead of paying for **** you hardly ever use), get a decent ROM from XDA. You might not get the paid support that SE will give and you might have to live with a few small issues, but you get WAY more than youve paid for!
That said, XDA DEVS have done sterling jobs. As I said, Ive tried a lot of ROMS.
Pauls Sonybread seemed like a really good rom for the week I had it on my phone. Random reboot aide, it was great. However, for some reason, if I happened to put the phone down with the screen downwards, the screen became unresponsive. The same happened if I put the phone in my pocket. Now, by unresponsive, I mean that the screen refused to respond to any input for about 20 minutes... then suddenly would respond to ALL keypresses during that time. Wierd. I have lost LOTS of business as a result and almost got my ass fired cos of missed calls... so till I can get this ROM working properly on MY device, its been relegated to my backup X10MP. Funny enough, its ben running on THAT device for about 3 days without incident (not even a reboot!)
On the other hand, CM7 wasnt Pauls ROM to start off with. Paul took over this ROM and has done a sterling job with it. I havent had a single issue with it and this ROM is currently running on the device I use on a day to day basis (I have a Nokia 3310 as backup... JSUT in case ). Besides the setup issues (you cant install a bloody thing till youve wiped a few times AFTER flashing the ROM), and the battery drain issues, I havent a single problem. Currently, it looks like the drain issue has been sorted. Im on 73% from full charge after 5H50Min22s (according to About Phone), which seems like quite along toime to me.
In essence, what Im saying is that all the ROMS have their bright spots and all have their faults. Personally, Im gonna stick with CM6. The thing is purely brilliant and meets my needs perfectly. I went from discovery to working perfectly in about 20 minutes... However, Ill be watching for FM Broadcast.apk (or .zip) and the first ROM to include this will definately get my vote.
YMMV. Dont forget the salt (just a pinch), a tampon (incase youre a bleeder), a lighter (cos where theres bull****, theres methane) and spare batteries (cos no matter WHAT you do, theres gonna be battery issues )
Regards,
Wingnut
I use MiniCM7 Pro v10 which all the minicm7 pro's from v7 onwards have always been very stable, i also use sonyblue 1.2 theme with the semchome.apk which gives the newer version of the SE 4 corners so that way i have the stability of MiniCM7 Pro v10 with the looks of sonybread
I still have ADW launcher aswell which i can switch back n forth between the 2
enlightening... thanks!
hello there well im new to this android thing
i got x10 for a cheap price
and i have to say its a good phone
but well the in call volume is too low
while browsing and searching the x10 forums i found out
that there are some roms that can fix that issue
so whats the best rom for x10
btw its rooted
MODEL number : x10i
Android version : 2.3.3
Baseband version: 2.1.7.1
Kernel version: 2.6.29-00054-g5f01537 [email protected]#1
Build number: 3.0.1.G.0.75
Depending on your taste, it boils down to stock based, cyanogenmod, or miui. I prefer miui for many reasons, I use it for my business and its been very usefull. You can get roms that are for gaming, or ones with all the stock bells and whistles like facebook and timescape but to say which is best is tough.
Im using Oodies miui 1.11.4 and I love it, but if I still had a locked bootloader I would use cobratos because his froyo miui was the best and so I trust hes very good. I think you should try miui, but Im biased. Just make sure you read the original post start to finish and follow it carefully, avoid yourself some trouble and unnecessary posts for help. The x10 when properly modded is awesome and saves you from buying the new expensive phones for now, this phone can do alot when rooted have fun.
thank you that was really helpful
i found that thread about
Best performance and best look for your x10!
it got a rom by someone called Oodie
i like that rom the looks and they say it will fix the in call volume
but i wonder if its gonna work on my phone i dunno how to apply it
I have to agree with Bugly. You will get a headache if you were to attempt to figure out which ROM is best. A difficult task indeed. I strongly believe that it all boils down to personal preference my friend. Assuming you are locked BL, if you desire customization then go with MIUI based ROM. If you want the very basic, very dependent, user friendly, and contains all the bells and whistle then go with Wolf's take on the GB firmware.. Again, it all boils down to personal preference bud. You will have fun with this phone. Rooting opens many doors bro. Get at it.
Oh hey some tips to look out for.
-Look for ROMS that come prerooted (In most cases, most ROMs do)
-Review the features of the kernel being used in the ROM.
-Remove your FPScaps immediately and enjoy super speeds bro (Most ROMS support the FPS uncap hack, but you can flash the actual FPS hack yourself via xrecovery. If anything, I will attach the zip. to this comment.)
- With constant experimenting come constant trials and errors. You will run into walls and get stuck from time to time. Always make a backup of your current ROM and DATA.
@venix10
Root your phone and take the time to learn how to unlock Bootloader with Flashtool! Then it's easy to shift between different 'flavors'.
I have always been a great fan of WolfBreak, but like MIUI as well. WolfBreak has better battery, while MIUI has a lot of themes...
Bugsy
I used wolfbreaks roms back in the froyo days, they are top quality but in all honesty Id say ewjet is probably better overall, and would be my next choice after MIUI. The main thing about MIUI I like isnt just the themes, its the nicely done contacts and sms UI, along with the unbeatable pull down curtain that has all your toggles, so many to list I cant see anyone not liking it.
ok and since you guys had the x10 for a longtime i guess
is there a solution for the low in call volume ? is there some sort of a fix
There is a ´addon´ called xLoud, it really up your volume. But, i suggest to stay away .. cause can damage your louder/phone sound.
yeah i heard of it but are there any other ways
and another thing
i heard about the bravia engine what it do what are the pros and the cons of it

My phone usage has limited to Go Sms Pro, Calls, Facebook, a little browsing and Using camera A LOT!!! Oh and GPS. I dont even bother with overclocking the CPU as I have no use of that. And I have a rooted X10 Mini Pro with unlocked bootlader running MiniCM7.
But I have gotten bored of the MiniCM7 look. Its too simple :S and the launchers require too much customization. Currently on sslauncher. So I was thinking of going back to official ROM, but need suggestions. Should I stick to custom and wait wait wait hoping Semc Debrand Engine will be usable on a daily basis some day or just go back to official?
Yeah, am looking for the original Sony look on my phone back

You could go back to stock firmware, but your phone will feel slower, because it doesn't have native jit. and thus the application0code will be run slower than MiniCM7.
You could try to install the Xperia S Home by Serajr on your phone to get that native SE look and feel, it is in here
The installation procedure seems a bit complicated but don't let that put you off
Thanks, trying that out now.

Thanks for helping a second time first with the unlocking bootloader/rooting. And now this.
I use the SonyStyle rom, gives you the look of the stock sony rom but running 2.3.7, maybe that will interest you.

I don´t think that the stock 2.1 is slower that minicm7 actualy I back to 2.1 and is the same thing. The only problem with back to 2.1 is flash support (minicm9/10 also fail with this option...)

Thanks, but i'll stick with MiniCM7 and this xperia S style. For now my only issue was the launcher.
