Data Connection not working anymore after flashing - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys i got a problem.
After flashing my phone normally with Odin like usual all of a sudden data connection aint working anymore. I works fine with wifi, but not without.
It shows 3G/H signal in the status bar, and i see the upload arrow is blinking so it is sending data, but not receiving anything.
I tried googling it, tried flashing various different roms that worked before and original firmware, but nothing helps so far.
I checked the provider info in the phone, and its all correct.
Kinda lost here, hope someone has an idea how to fix it
thx in advance

nobody? i tried everything so far and dont even know why its not working anymore

It's going to be difficult to get much help here because I don.t think most developers have had time yet to get into the innards of the A501. Have you tried flashing back to the original stock ROM? You did back it up before you flashed it with a custom one right?
Sent from my A500 using xda premium

No nandroid backup, only titanium backup since i never had problems before.
I tried flashing all kind of original firmware now, KH1-3, even older ones, the latest. tried all custom roms that worked fine before.
Tried different sim cards, readded the APN settings etc.
Found out now that 2G is working, but as soon as i switch to 3G etc it shows the signal for that, i see upload but no download, so it basicly stops working.

(Instead of quick reply, i hit thanks first!)
Dial *#301279#. If it doesn't work, dial *#*#301279#*#*
Select 2nd option (Change HSPA revision or whatever).
Then select 3rd option (Release 6).
Restart.
Also, check your APN settings.
Use an app called Tweakker which will configure your apn if u dont know exact settings.

thanks for the quick replies guys.
so i did play with the codes today already, the option you stated i tried but sadly it didnt change anything.
HOWEVER i did choose disable HDSPA completly now, so i am on 3G only and guess what, now it works!!
Speeds are not what they used to be at this location, but that might be due to my data limit so i have to check.
With other codes i found out that while being on H/H+ phone didnt download 1 byte, so i have to wonder why.
With 3G it is working now, but what could the cause be. Used to flash quite often and it always worked, so not sure if thats even related to my problem atm.
Any idea what might cause the H stuff not working at all? I read about the SII getting stuck on H+ etc. before, but all the tricks with rebooting or toggling flight mode etc. didnt work for me
so far, thanks a lot!

Try different modems. Depending on ur location and service provider, atleast one should work right. I'm using KI3 modem without problems.

modem depending on location and provider?
i tried several modems from the original firmware thread under development. they all used to work fine before, now they dont. KI3, KI8, KH3 etc. all nothing :/

Hmm strange. May be you should delete all apns, and configure a new one for your provider.
Also give KG5 and KG2 a try.

i am having a SGS2 with KI3 and sensation rom 1.7 with kernel siyah 2.0. after doing this i am also facing a problem with my data connection. it works but its on / off.
can you suggest come remedies like now please .............

No Data..?(3G,2G,Any G)

So.. I might be the only one experiencing this but i haven't had any data since i flashed asop newest rom... re-flashed, called vm, bought the new $199 phone, called again and they told me to wait 48 hrs..? Has anybody else experienced this dreadful b/s?
Thanks!
Did u have data before you flashed? Was your phone activated? What recovery are you using? If I recall correctly, in the ROM thread there are a few suggestions to getting it working again; such as going into emergency programming mode or something like that, as well as re-flashing the stock ROM, activating, then flashing.
Have you setup the APNs after flashing?
I use a tool called "APN backup and restore".
If the APN is already installed and not working, try switching to airplane mode and back.
If it is not installed, you will need to set it up either through you service provider or manually. (I don't know what your carrier is).

Lol well most everyone on here with the Optimus V will be on Virgin Mobile.
I had a problem like this - tried everything - reloaded old nand ... etc. A person on another board suggested installing a data switch app and turning it back on. I thought this was crazy but I did it (desperate) and it worked.
Sorry did not know that you have Optimus V. Any way most service providers have some way to send you the settings files. Some through a service request page online or an SMS no. To request the settings from.
I have seen a link on customer support of samsung the gives you manual settings for all networks around the world, I just can not find it now.

I did have data before i flashed.. called VM again and they sent me a 3G reset but that did nothing.. I'm using thnderc recovery and asop lastest rom, I will try a few things that where pointed out to me and update on my progress.. thanks for the feedback!
I'm having the same problem with my Optimus V, and looking on the interwebs it seems to be a known problem, that possibly affects all of Virgin mobile smart phones. I just end up going into settings and turning off/on the data connection. This always fixes it, until the next day or so when it happens again. Pretty frustrating. The LG forums even admit it's an issue and posted on this thread: LG forums about data issue but no actual fix as of yet.
And I'm actually still running stock on it, so it's not a custom ROM issue.

[Q] Data Connection bug. How to solve?

The Edge symbol in my Galaxy S2 disappears when the signal is down.
It never reappear when the network signal get back. Even If i change all settings... tried disable/enable "Use packet Data" and other settings...
NO USE! It seemed to be serious and consistent bug.
Hi balavj, maybe a silly question, but are you sure that you are in an area well covered by edge gprs signal?

Signal drops inside a room... when i come out of a room... network signal regains... everything works... data connection symbol does not come back... this is the exact problem... only after reboot... it resolves
Ah I see... Never met these conditions with my phone here, so sorry I can't be of much help.

i am having a similar problem, seems to have happened quite recently for me as previously i had no real issues with it at all.
I keep having to reboot my phone to get a mobile network connection, otherwise the Mobile Network Status shows as connecting all the time...
Very strange
Try other modem, or shove the phone into airplane mode and back again should kick it back onto data.
I have the same problem here...
Tried KE4 (Original), KG7 and KH3 modems e nothing..
Tried many roms too, and nothing, the problem is on all of them...
Data on/off, Airplane mode on/off, nothing gets data working back, only reboot...
Ps.: ROMs tested: Lite'ning, Cognition, Exynos, KE4, KG7.
Kernels: Niphetamine, Jeffrey, Speedmod
SAme here
same here...
Is anyone still experiencing this?
I was having major issues with connectivity, data and calls. I got to the point where i could barely make or receive a call or connect to a mobile data network.
I tried numerous modems and firmware, including original O2 carrier branded firmware, generic firmware and custome ROMs. I found the problem replicating across them all.
I finally settled on Crsikelos ROM (V14) with KE7 modem, however i had previously done a full wipe install of my original O2 firmware (XWKDE i think) and tried a couple of different modems (KH3, KE2 and KE7).
I even tried removing my SD card as i am convinced my sd card is not compatible and is causing issues...
All of a sudden everything started to work again?? I put my SD card back in and left it in, no chance everything was still working. So then i flashed Criskelos Rom and made sure my modem was KE7, that was about a week ago and it's still all good.
TBH i think it may be something to do with O2's network being pants (rather than my SD card )....
Not sure this will help but i thought i'd post my experience for you...
Hope you get it fixed
i have the same problem i.e data loses connection. after a fresh flash of stock rom and factory reset , it starts working fine for a week or so and then the shyt happens again . i can tell u , its not a hardware issue, it more like a software issue.
i m not good at android but wen i used to run squid on a linux machine as a proxy server , i recall i had to clear a log file to make data flow possible every few days. i think android has a similar issues some logs files build up or some **** like that.

[Q] 3G / HSDPA Not working after flashing

Hi guys,
Having some difficulties here.
Searched on the forum but didn't find a proper way to fix this.
I installed Villainrom 3.0 with the ninphetamine 2.0.5 on it. (already did it 3 times, with cache wipe and dalvik)
After that, my data connection doesn't work anymore.
I have the right APN settings, and tried other modems and kernels.
These are the ones that I tried:
Modems: XXKE7
XXKE4
KE7
KH3
KI2
KI3
Kernels: XWKE2 (was the standard root)
ninphetamine 2.1.3
2.0.5
I'm really stuck here
Please comment.
Thanks!

No, my girlfriend her phone/3g works fine, with the same telco
Do you get a data connection on the stock rom?
I would usually put this down to the provider.
Sometimes its because your efs folder got corrupt (no imei) or wrong radio/modem. but as you have tried so many im pretty sure its not that.

I did a backup to my stock rom, but kept my ninphetamine 2.0.5 kernel.
The data con. works with the stock rom.
I'll try again tonight, maybe I should play with the APN settings a bit.
If this doesn't work, I'll just leave it with a stock rom
Maybe your phone/telco doesn't like this firmware version.
Try another custom rom with different firmware.

Write down all the apn settings and apply them to villain, I cant see why that wouldnt work.
Same problem here, IMEI ok. Also tried different modems.
Btw, 3G works, but not HSDPA. Sometimes H/H+ appers for a brief period of time and goes back to 3G. Same SIM on another phone gives me constant H/H+ icon.

Nobody facing similar issues?
UPDATE: OpenSignal says that the connection is HSDPA (sometimes UMTS), but the icon stays "3G".
I'm having the exact same issue. I got it back last week by repeatedly switching between Gsm only ans auto but that's not working this time. Talk mobile UK. I'm going to try Cyanogenmod. Shame as I really liked Villainrom.
Edit:
Re-entered the APN settings and it's all good now.

Well i've investigated this a little bit further, and found out this only happens when using a WCDMA 2100 network. I've tried another carrier (WCDMA 850) and it stays locked on HSUPA all the time. I i only knew why HSUPA works on my original carrier only while on a call...

Loosing Data connection

Hi All.
Provider: "3" Austria
ROM: Omega V32 & Android Revolution HD 9.0.0 (or earlier)
When the Phone is lost the Network connection (elevator, no coverage,...), it reconnects, everything seems to be fine, it shows also 3G or H+ data connection, but that's not true, what's displayed on screen, phone calls are possible, but there is no data connection available.
Restarting the phone and everything is fine. Switching off( on FlightMode or data won't help.
Now I installed just for testing CM10 nighly and it work's fine, no problems!! BTW, it worked also fine with Omega ICS Versions!
I like Omega or Revolution muc more then CM10, cause I like TouchWiz. Do you have any ideas, how to fix this? Maybe a different kernel?
THANKS for your help

u could try a different modem
Thanks für the hint... it's hard to find a summary of relating Modem's or Kernels to trie.
I did a full wipe now and installed everything from scratch, also using the latest Omega V26 Rom. It's a bit better now. The difference is, if it's loosing 3G, connecting to GSM it hardly reconnects to 3G, and if it's done, no most of the time HSDPA is not shown. It's not really reproducable, cause it depends on the location. Switch off / on data solves the problem.
I read somewhere here, that I'm not the only one with problems related the Austrian Provider "3". Anyone else here?
Maybe someone here has a list of Kernels and Modems to use or a link, where to find. I used Search but toooo many results for me to find the correct on.
Thanks

[FIXED] Wifi connected but no traffic

Hi Guys,
i have a problem.
Since a couple of days, the wifi connection on my i9100 does not work anymore. I tried multiple roms but to no avail.
The thing is that the wifi connection is established, but nothing works.
I tried different roms, router resets (but the problem occurs on any wifi connection).
Any ideas?

may be its a problem with your device karnel version. try to use stoke karnel, i had this problem once. then i flashed stock karnel using odin. then solved
Thanks for the reply, i tried it and i am now running stock. BUT the problem still persists.
This could not be a hardware problem could it? since the wifi is connected?

Ive had this happen to both my my Note 2 and my SGS2 LTE before that. With the Note 2, No matter what rom/stock firmware i flashed it never got better and I ended up selling it at a loss, but the SGS2 was made better when I flashed to stock then reflashed a Cm 4.2.2 rom. Maybe try that?

Given what you've already tried, flash the 3 part firmware from Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread stickied in the General section. If you can get WiFi working on that, then reflash a more recent stock rom. If it's still working, then reflash whatever custom rom.
Might not work, but worth a shot given the 3 part will wipe your phone & might get rid of anything funky that might be causing this (don't forget to back stuff up before you flash it).
That it happens with every WiFi network you try to use is a worry though, and probably points either to something really simple we're all missing here, or a hardware issue.

I will try that when i get back from work. But i've been thinking, how is it possible that it is a hardware issue? i mean the phone still connects, something hardware related can not be partially broke right?
You'd think not (that it wouldn't be a hardware issue), but you've tried pretty much everything you can on the soft/firmware side, and it obviously isn't something on the WiFi network side unless all the WiFi networks you've tried & failed to get data flow to/from have this problem.
One thought I did have since my last post...I can't remember whether it's possible to do this on the S2 (it is on the S3/S4) as it's been months since I've even looked at mine; if you delete a WiFi connection in settings, then when you re-add it, are you able to choose between DHCP & static for IP address (might be in advanced settings if you check the box) ? If you're able to do this, choose a static IP address (I use 192.168.1.168 on my S4) rather than DHCP & see how that goes.
If that's not possible or it doesn't work, then try flashing the 3 part. Make sure you test once you've flashed it without restoring anything or installing any apps first to rule in/out something on the app side of things causing the problem.
THe 3part Odin flash did also not work. Is there a last resort solution, or is this it. Should I accept that my phone is broken

pheraps there is a problem with your modem version. Try to flash an other modem using recovery.
isnt that what i did in the 3 step flash from hopper8?
No, it's not. There's a big difference between flashing a 3 part rom & just simply flashing a modem. However...
It won't work anyway because WiFi has nothing to do with the modem (WiFi drivers are in the kernel).
Did you try what I suggested with removing the connection in phone WiFi settings & re-adding it with a static IP (presuming this is even possible on the S2) ?
If you did & it didn't work, or it isn't possible after all, take it to a service centre or local mobile repair shop.
or just buy a new phone as i did. I will keep you posted if the static ip worked.

Holy &^#(*^ that worked! a static IP worked. How is that possible?!
The short answer ? Magic
The long/non-tech answer; the connection between the phone/router is basically dropped & constantly re-established over & over & over (we're talking about once a second or less; basically looping like that) which means you've never got a stable connection long enough to get any data flow with a DHCP allocated IP.
There's threads on here somewhere that explain it better/explain 'the why' if you're interested enough to search for them; sorry, I don't have bookmarks handy & it's 5.30am here so I'm going to bed.
Important thing is, problem solved

100% thanks, i've looked around on the forum and see now that you've helped multiple people solve this problem. That is great.
[FIX]
For the people that read this thread, fix the problem by applying a static IP for their WIFI and think "but what about all the public accespoints that do not allow static IPs?? Will i never be able to use them anymore?"
Don't worry
The problem is not so much the fact that the phone suddenly needs a static IP on certain WIFI accespoints, but that it needs an assigned DNS. Through some "magical" "unexplainable" reason some of our phones suddenly go broke in a weird way that everything works, but no DNS is assigned on specific WIFI spots (mostly WPA2 protected).
Solution:
Set a fixed DNS for all WIFI connections
Google Play has multiple apps that will apply a fixed DNS.
[edit] after this debacle i bought a second hand i9300. The first couple of days, it worked perfectly but soon it started to display similar behaviour as my i9100. That is when i started to look for other possible solutions for the problem. I soon found out that the Ip adress that was handed out by my router was off. it was 192.168.2.xxx instead of 192.168.1.xxx as is setup in my router settings. That is why entering a static IP solved the problem for my i9300. After restoring my router to factory settings everything is normal. My router is a Tp-link wr740N with DDWRT flashed on it. Maybe this information will also help other users
Good job digging up the DNS info, hopefully this helps people in future/they don't spend days pulling their hair out trying to fix this issue
