Gmail app eventually loses sync with the server. Sometimes when I archive or delete, or make read, it's not reflected onto the server. When I re-open Gmail, sometimes it would say I have say... 2 emails unread. But it doesn't show the unread messages until I check out the web version.
When sending emails, especially with attachment, it's typically stuck at the "Sending" stage.
There's a workaround by saving the message to Draft, re-open, and re-send. But is there a more permanent fix to this problem?

I setup my email account using IMAP. After getting my initial mail, the amount of messages I have in the Inbox stays the same, even after I delete them. Just for clarification, It says "4" (in the green circle) next to Inbox even though it's empty. It also says "4 new emails" on the screen-lock page. I tried deleting and recreating the account, but it stays the same.
I originally ran this account as POP3 (with "never delete from server" selected), but when my phone received a message, it would stop it from showing up on my computer's email client. It didn't just happen when I deleted the message on the phone.. the phone seemed to be taking it from the server.
I'd rather run the account as POP3, but I'd be happy with either if they worked properly. The only reason I have it setup in IMAP is because it allows me to receive the same message on my phone and computer.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks,
-Adam
I have recently started using K9 mail, but have come across an issue of duplicate emails. I will receive them in both the inbox and in the folder I have them filtered to. For example, I have created a filter in gmail to send all emails from family into a folder called "Family". When I receive them in K9 Mail, it says there are 2 emails. The email shows up in the inbox folder and in the "Family" folder. I must view/delete them separately. Is there any way to have the mail just show up in the "Family" folder only or even vice versa (in the inbox)?

Sounds like something funny on the server end to me, I've never seen this happen.. What provider or server is in use, and is it IMAP or POP?
Does this also happen with the stock app?
I am currently using Gmail via IMAP. To be honest, I have not checked the stock app or the Gmail app to see it happens with those programs also. I should do that I guess. lol.
I actually restored some old settings and don't notice the problem any longer (thank goodness for Titanium Backup - which I didn't think about until after I set up my folders again).
Now I have another problem. I have noticed that sometimes when I send an email, it will send multiple versions of the draft out as well as the final draft. For example, grafts are automatically saved in gmail every so many minutes. Well if it takes me 20 minutes (I know, that's a long time - lol) to send out the email, all the saved versions of the draft are sent out also. This can be quite troublesome if I completely reword or delete sections of the email before I send out the final version. Any clues as to why or how this is happening? Thanks in advance.
Im not happy with K9 mAIL...it downloads email that i have already downloaded on my laptop the previous day too...is there a setting to get it to only download emails for the present day??
Hi there, everyone! Facing a strange problem lately. I've noticed that emails are not being sent when I use the Gmail 2.3.5 app to send them. That app does not show any confirmation after pressing the SEND button, other than "sending message", whether the email has been sent or not does not get confirmed. There is no OUTBOX to be viewed in the Gmail 2.3.5 app.
However, the email IS being sent when they are sent using the same gmail account but via the SOCIAL HUB. When I composed and sent the email via the Social Hub, it first shows in the Outbox of the EMAIL app, and then from there it is being delivered after a delay of few minutes.
I also tested sending the same email from the same gmail account using the EMAIL app, but that shows in the OUTBOX, but is still not delivered. So to cut the long story short. There are three applications which can be used for sending an email from a gmail account, and only one of those applications is working.
1. The GMAIL 2.3.5 app is NOT WORKING for sending an email.
2. The EMAIL app is showing the message in the OUTBOX, but the message is still not sent.
3. The Social Hub is the only app which WORKED for sending an email.
Do you all confirm my findings? If yes, then why is it that only the Social Hub is working for sending out an email from the Gmail account???
Now if you go to gmail.com on a pc, do you see your email in the outbox section? If not, then your Gmail app seems clogged up .
Go into settings > applications. Click the 'all-tab' and scroll to gmail. Select it and choose to delete the application data. Not the app itself of course. This requires you to add your google account back into the app. Could solve your problem.

Hi Prodygee, thanks for your reply. I did exactly like you said and clicked on "Clear Data".....I guess that's what u meant by deleting the application data. It worked like a charm! Thanks
Now I can send an email via the social hub AND via the Gmail app AND also via the Email app. All new sent messages are getting delivered. But one old message is still showing as pending in the Outbox (of the phone). Any tips on why that one is not getting sent?
And when I open the gmail account on my laptop, it does not have any "Outbox" folder there....it has a "Sent Mail" folder and a "drafts" folder (which is empty). But I don't think this is relevant now as the problem seems to have been solved with your tip Thanks again.
Me too!
Just want to add my own experience of not being able to send gmail from my phone.
I have gmail 2.3.5.2 running on a stock SGS2 with the latest OTA update - XWKI4 android 2.3.4 (not very new, I know)
I noticed gmail sending was broken recently - couldn't send new, or, replied to, emails. There was no error message, it just didn't do anything. If I pressed the back button, it prompted me if I want to quit. All I could do was save it to drafts and later resend it from a PC.
Anyway, reading the above, I went into app management and blew away all the cache and application data of the gmail app. I was worried about the latter thinking it might delete my entire gmail archive. Worry not - it just deletes it from the phone and later resyncs when you next load gmail.
Anyway, I did this ... and it didn't work
So, I wiped the cache and data from the gmail app again, shutdown the phone, pulled the battery and then using a PC, deleted all my old drafts, [imap]/sent and [imap]Trash. Switched it back on ...
... and it worked!
This has been frustrating me for months. I have ActiveSync through work for my corporate email. When I get a new email, I get notified immediately so no problem there. When I read it in Outlook, the notification on my phone stays active as I have a new email. Basically is still says I haven't read the email. It only gets marked as read if I open the email app. The Gmail app doesn't do this. I have tried Touchdown as well and same thing happens.
Any suggestions or thoughts?
I read and delete messages in the gmail android app but when I log into gmail on a pc, none of those messages are deleted, or even marked as "read"!! They're just sitting in my inbox as if they're brand new messages. I hate it!!
What is the correct combination of settings in gmail to make messages deleted in the gmail app, actually be deleted?? Nothing is set to auto, everything is manual. So I refresh my inbox on the app, I see my new messages. I delete them in the app. Then I refresh the app. Logically, this should delete the messages permanently. But when I log on at a computer, all the messages are still there! Please, Please, Please. Thank you;.

I purchased Enhanced Email many years ago and that is my solution. Minimal setup, I delete a message in that app, and the email is gone forever.
Why is the gmail app so, so horrible??
