I have just purchased an atrix non contract on vodafone. And I just wondered what the difference between my atrix and the T-Mobile and orange uk versions.

The T-mobile don't have 2.3, the orange does. So I guess only software related
Mine is unbranded, so what the he'll would mine be classed as? Lol

There's a 60+ page thread on the moto forums where Orange users are complaining about the lack of Gingerbread.
Hello, I'm an italian customer (carrier Vodafone) that have an Atrix sim free-retail buy from Expansys, running version.4.4.35.MB860.Retail.en.GB with Froyo 2.2.2. I'm still wait the release of official (????) gingerbread from Motorola, but i'm extremely frustrated by the lag. I read the guides, there are a possibility to unlock with gingerbreak and install a gingerbread-based rom (like kenneth penn's stock) rom? It will work fine in Italy? what radio i have to use? Sorry for the questions, but there are information for At&t, orange uk, but few for UE users.
Yeah im in the same boat as you. Its the 4.4.35.GB version. Nothing to do with vodafone. Im going to try another sim in it as I have got a feeling its unbranded. Because there is no voda boot screen. And I havent read anywhere else about a vodafone upgrade. So is there an unbranded one or are we just left on froyo? Because that makes no sense having all this power and not being able to update without rooting.
don't get me wrong, I love rooting, my desire had to be rooted. But this phone is awesome without having to do that.or at least I thought it was. I totally dislike iphones but at least with there updates its to everyone, everywhere. Not carrier based.

Just wanting to know a few things:
1. Do all apps support the "Move to media" option in manage apps, or is it similar to the stock FroYo Move to SD?
2. If I got one I would get it from Mobicity in Brisbane (Google mobicity atrix) would the option under colour saying no physical branding be a Bell Atrix? I have heard they are harder to hack etc. Would it be better knowing I'm getting an AT&T by getting their branding on the phone?
Thanks (Sorry I can't post links, I would, but I'm only new)

I can only answer #1 for ya. No, only certain apps will allow moving to media area (built in /sdcard)
But in reality, I have what I consider a ton of apps installed and still have nearly a gb of phone storage remaining so it's just about a moot point..
Thanks. That's a bit of a let down, but still good. I've got a desire with about 20 apps installed and 15mb free, so anything more than that is awesome!

You won't need to worry about space on the Atrix. At last count I have a total of 452 apps, a couple of gigs of music, pictures, and videos on my internal sdcard, and still have over 5GB of free space.
This isn't the AT&T Atrix which is the MB860.
http://www.mobicity.com.au/motorola-atrix.html
This is the ME860. I believe that's from the Chinese/Asian market.
The following link shows this model as having Android 2.2.1 Chinese as embedded operating system.

According to the Mobicity website, the one I'm looking at is the ME860, but I don't know if that means that if I go the AT&T branding means that I get the MB860. The only advantage I can see from getting the ME860 is the quad-band 3G (I live in Australia so there is one carrier using 850/2100mHz and the rest use 900/2100mHz Dual band 3G), so if I want to change carriers this could be useful.
I might contact Mobicity to find out if the AT&T branding means MB860 and if the ME860 has any Chinese language on it.
So I checked with Mobicity and they said that the website had errors. They are actually selling the MB860 with either AT&T branding or no branding. I asked which rom they ran on each and the AT&T branded one runs the same rom AT&T uses, where the unbranded one uses Moto's stock rom. If they are both the same price which would be better? I don't care about the AT&T logo because it's fairly easy to remove.
I've also seen some people using the AT&T Atrix have "AT&T Atrix" as the carrier when using it with another carrier. Would this occur if I got the AT&T branding?
If you plan on using it with telstra, then you'll have no problems with reception on the AT&T atrix as they use the 3G 850 mhz band. However, if you plan on using vodafone/optus then you won't get 3g in the country/rural areas as they use the 900mhz band. It'd probably be good for you to check the 3g coverage maps if you plan on going with optus/vodafone on the AT&T atrix.
I went against going with mobicity as nobody I talked to had any idea what version of the atrix they're selling. Originally they were selling just the AT&T version but since the telstra version came out they updated their site and were telling me that ALL their versions were quadband, including the AT&T branded one. They were also charging $20 extra for the AT&T version for a while.
I ended up ordering it from gsmnation a few days ago as it was cheaper and I know what I'll be getting. I'm going to be using optus but the AT&T version has better developer support so I figured that was a better incentive rather than rare occasion that I'll actually go visiting a rural area. I was using a tri-band iphone 3g for 3 years before this anyway.
So if you want better support from developers, probably faster updates and you aren't worried about the fact that it doesn't support optus/vodafone in the country then I'd go with the AT&T atrix.
According to them they don't sell the quad-band version (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1564501&p=58#r1144), but that doesn't bother me, as I'm looked into Telstra for another 15 months or so. That means the only thing I'm worried about are updates (which as you mentioned the AT&T one would get more and faster) and the support for custom roms down the track (Gingerblur supports this already). So looks like I will go with the AT&T if I get one.
Well luckily I didn't buy it from mobicity then. The person I spoke to said that the atrix was now quadband, even their website showed the same until you alerted them about it. So yeah, I guess that makes the decision a lot easier for you.

Lucky indeed! I have heard that Telstra is selling a quad-band version, although it's hardly selling, more like ripping off at $840 or $59 a month.
Have you got your Atrix? I've heard some people using the AT&T Atrix with another provider get "AT&T Atrix" as the carrier up the top left corner of the screen. Just wondering if this is true or not....
Since Mobicity says ME860 on their website, and they tell you themselves this is wrong and they are selling the MB860, I would definitely verify all the information on any phone you purchase first in :
Settings > About Phone

Will do! Although it doesn't really bother me as I won't be using the added 900mHz frequency anyway. But still, better to get what you ask for!
So if I got the AT&T branded one would app sideloading be disabled, as it it using AT&T's rom? If it is, then how easy is it to enable?

Hello, can I open the Bootloader from a German Atrix e.g this -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261 ?
Is it bought in the US? If so yes, you can unlock it.
Sent from my Motorola Olympus using XDA Premium App.
you cant unlock a german atrix via the pudding method,
its is only for att atrix´s, the german one is a retail one like bell and others. i think moto will unlock the retail one (including the german) with the gb update too but i cant promise.
Thanks for the Information. Yes, I will buy the Atrix in Germany. The first Atrix will send from Shops in Germany.
Can I root the German Atrix? The instructions from XDA are all for ATT or other US Atrix.

If the Atrix is not from AT&T, you can't unlock it with the pudding method. If else, yes, you can.
This is what in #3 postet. My new question is about root.
You shouldn't have problems rooting it.
After reading http://phandroid.com/2011/07/07/motorola-droid-3-shipping-with-locked-bootloader/, I have serious doubts that the Atrix will ever be unlocked outside the AT&T network (the Droid 3 ships with a locked bootloader and runs GB).
The excuse is: it was promised to unlock bootloaders where carriers and operators permit. As apparently the don't, devices remain locked.
If this is the full truth, only Motorola knows.
Thanks for info.
I hope, my Atrix comes the next days.
Hello,
Im fairly new here, used to own a Samsung Galaxy Portal and I got an SGS2 last friday . Excellent device and everything but one thing thats wrong, Its on T-Mobile. Everyone must agree with me that T-Mobile are fairly late with their branded firmware, updates and leave the handset users at a disadvantage. As a matter of fact, I don't know anyone who has actually recieved a T-Mobile Branded Firmware update thus far for any android device, whats the crack here? anyone have any insight on this?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
It is entirely possible to update the firmware, root and remove the network lock on your phone using the various threads on those topics. I am using XWKI4 on this SGSII which is now a generic XEU unit rather than TMU.

don't mean to revive an old thread, but yes they are. Even so, they keep their firmware seperate. Anyhow, I'm on MIUI Rom now with Dorimanx Kernel, everythings all good
Was just reading that orange branded phones are having 2.3.5 today (UK)
Anyone confirm that? I'm unbranded i would of though I would have it if they do
And yes I know I can root and do it myself, is Kies just rubbish at updating!?

I can confirm 2.3.5 for Orange, mine popped up yesterday
Samsung Kies informs me of 2.3.5 ( Middle Eastern XSG ) since a week but I don't use the stock ROM.
I got 2.3.5 KI4 trough KIES a long time ago (21.10.2011 judging by when i downloaded cf root for it) and i never had any problems with KIES, exept for it requiring 2gb on C drive ALWAYS -_-
I got KI8 2.3.5 through kies on Friday night in the uk

Exactly why I made the post I'm unbranded so one would think I would be one of the first, compared to branded headsets due to the carriers Modding the update.
I'm surprised so far it seems quite random
My phone is also an unbranded (pl plus early batch), so I'd say you got something weird

Updated my unbranded sg2 to ki4 via kies last sunday, and my sg1 to 2.3.5 as well via kies.Strange thing is lots of problems for the first time ever eith my sg1, but its now almost undistinguishable in speed to my sg2, which, by the way has hardly changed for the better exept for portrait video , worse wifi, phone signal, gps and loss of message skins . I wish I hadn't done it.
Had my phone about a week,
No update when i first got it,
installed a few roms etc etc... then went back to offical stock for uk three, and ki8 popped up.
Havnt taken the update yet, not sure if its even worth it atm and was a little unsure if i was ment to be offerd it, not heard off any other three users til now.
Three, vodafone and orange have updated their fw to 2.3.5 you will need to check what csc your phone by putting *#1234# into the dial pad, mine is xeu which is unbranded and still no updates yet.
Won't let me add screen capture to show my phone info.

how random it seems to be for the unbranded handsets...
Ah, my code is XEU too, so I guess mine is unbranded too. Very strange, I always thought that unbranded phones got their updates first?

It's not random, simply put Orange, vodafone and three in the UK have it, Samsung have chosen not to release it to unbranded sets yet..

Ok random isn't the right word... but i've never had a unbranded phone that recieved updates AFTER the carriers?
Like I said though, I could root if I was bothered, I'm just curious, and I would love to know what the hold up is
Sorry not able to edit my earlier post, but just got back from Scotland and checked my gs2 and its only 2.3.4, kies has written the information in a format I haven't seen before instead of the usual three entries, I have four all no gaps and smaller font and because of the mix of XX and XW I thought I had 2.3.5. Still wish I'd kept my earlier firmware though. Sorry if I gave any one false hopes.
Still no 2.3.5 official update over kies for Ukraine (SEK) ((, what do think guys, will it be soon?
Having read that Three have now released the Jellybean update, before the unlocked handsets direct from Samsung, it got me thinking. I purchased an unlocked S3 through phones4u but on the Orange Network.. Would it allow me to update my handset if i were to put a Three SIM card in ?? I'm guessing not but If soo, would there be any consequences??
Sorry if this is a novice question, just wondered.
Thanks
No it doesn't work like that. If you are desperate you can always use Odin to flash it. (Lots of tutorials and guides on here) or just wait for the official update
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
It doesn't matter if your phones locked or unlocked, or what network it was on or what sim you have in...
If your phone is Three branded (usually means you purchased it from Three) then kies will let you upgrade to Jellybean. If it's an unlocked simfree unit (as p4u would sell it) you have to wait for Samsung to release their simfree handset update.
Three, voda and O2 have all updated within the last 7days, even Virgin have announced that their update will be available this week, so shouldn't be long now until Samsung and orange/t-mob do..
Annoying though, I don't understand why there is a delay on Orange, especially when they've had the LTE i9305 available for over a week already running on Orange-branded Jellybean.. Surely there's not going to be that much difference, I doubt they'd run into any problems for the I9300 update.
