hi
sory for my poor english
i root my archos 101IT, 2.4.19+R/W chulri method, everythings is ok, except that i realized a slowdown in internal storage transfer rate.
i didnt remove android kernel to make some tests and to compare when i boot from android and from developer (root)
example
when i boot from android (not root) i took 20seg to load angry birds
when i boot from developer (root) i took 60seg to load angry birds
i did alots benchmarks, not problem with mem, cpu, 2d or 3d
but when bench the internal storage i got 4MB/s in read
when i boot from android (not root) i got 10MB/s
someone know why this happens?
thanxs
Please compare it also with the non-rw version, there is a tiny but maybe important difference implement compared to the +rw version.
bump?
Chulri, I to have a noticeable performance difference after I root. I don't really mind to much bc I'd rather have root. Would you like bench mark results or anything? I have an archos 70 hit.
Let me know.

i never really did any benches before on either stock or rooted.
i used a few different bench apps, all have better results with root EXCEPT for SDcard read. as you can see in the bench 'write' falls around 20-21 on both stock, and rooted.
read was averaging 21-22 on stock and only 6-10 on rooted.
i believe that could cause it to run slower.
what good are better bench results if the system has to wait on reading the disk...
As I asked before, could you please bench the non-rw vs. the +rw root version? Thank you.
I guess I know what's the problem and unfortunately there won't be a quick fix

Hey Everyone,
Just upgraded to Free X10 Beta 4. Everything is working fine, however, my Quadrant score has dropped to about 900. With beta 3 it was 1300. With beta 2, about 1500. So, it keeps dropping with every upgrade.
Does anyone know why this is? Any potential fixes?
it seems to be very different for everyone.
some have better. some have worse.
i can agree that with beta3 i was getting 1500+
when i flashed to beta4 i was getting nothing over 1350
and now even having gone back to beta3 im still not getting over 1400.
so whatever it did, it was clearly permanent since i did a factory reset and EVERYTHING. sucks right ?
what is the benefit of 1350 or 1500 ? It sounds both high...I do have 1310 at beta4, but for what it is necessary to have higher scores? Playing fast games? Or is it just a matter of who gets the highest number? My phone is going like crazy on 1310.....If it's just about the numbers, I know for a car more Horsepower doesn't mean automatically more speed, it depends on more than just the horsepower...
I really don't know where this amount stands for, I asked before but no one could explain it clearly...

well the problem for me is. at first with beta3 i was getting 1500+ the first run with quadrant.
now that ive tried beta4 and gone BACK to beta3 i get around 1000 to 1190 the first run. and need 3 or 4 runs to get up to 1300. and the scores in between 1 and 4 may be lower or higher than the previous. so now it just seems something has made it inconsistent.
but i do agree with you my phone is still fast.

"Quadrant Obsession" is the sequel to the "Free RAM obsession"!
I happened to read this article today and it helped understand a few things!
Check it out!
I used to have around 1500 with beta 4.
Recently i installed data2sd and this works like a charme.
I now get scores around 2500
Phone is stable only had 1 fc but that was right after the installation so i think the data wasn't setteld yet now it runs for 3 days wirh no problems at all.
Z you really rock...
Thanks for Xrecovery, your super roms and data2sd

i know this is a stupid quest but how can i know my scores? can some one show me how?
I am on Beta 4 and i get CONSTANT 1550 Quadrant scores.
I even installed the Data2SD addon which now gives me a constant 2550 (which im not entirely liking because theres a lot of fcs and the phone tends to freeze up a lot more, so im going to revert when i get my new one)

4-untick the flight mode, but the 'thick'cannot be remove...
any idea
Does anyone feel like posting their benchmarks on the custom ROMs they are running? I know not every GTab will run the same but I would like to get a basic idea of what the hottest scores are. Thanks.
TNT Lite 4.3.x with stock kernel is ~40 fps (Nenamark) and ~2300 in Quadrant. On average.
There are definitely higher scores than that, with some of the other modded ROMs.
2200 with vegan 5.11 Benchmark Atuntu
Thank you guys for posting your benches. I had seen some one some where, posting that they get 60fps. Any one getting 60fps?
there is guide in dev forum where you can get up to 77fps, but the recomended is under 75.
You might mean the frame rate. The default is 50, but TNT Lite and gADAM up the frame rate to 60. At least one mod ups it to 77.
That's not really a benchmark, though - I assumed you meant something like Quadrant.
Im running caulkins rom and clemsyn's kernel #6. I'm averaging around 2400 on quadrant and 3000 on smartbench. The only thing faster on smartbench is overclocked xoom
It looks like most of the new ROMs run pretty fast. If i can get 2200-2500 in Quadrant I will be happy.

There is a post in the development section by chengu that has a loopback fix that enhances read/write speeds on the internal SD. This makes the I/O part of quadrant way faster. I have posted on that thread vegan stock 10x average is 2500+. With the loopback fix its a 10x average of 3100 with peaks of 3333. So no its not BS but really how much do quadrant (or any other test) effect daily functionality.? It is great for bragging rights though, especially to xoomers.

Fyi: restart your tab 5 or six times, I know I sounds weird but it takes that many to streamline it completely. Let it stabilize after boot and then power down, wait 20 sectonds and and power on. It wil take up to six minutes on first boot and get less each time.
It uses boot time to write changes.
Have fun ;-)
loopback fix like others have said
Is there any down fall to using the loop back fix? Heat issues or failure? Why isnt anyone implementing this into their ROMs?
No adverse side effects that I have noticed. Most people have noticed a slight increese in playing video from internal memory and web browsing cashed sights. Read the thread its full of good info.

Hi there. Why am i getting only about 1000 quadrant score, while everyone getting somewhat like 1500 on the same roms?
Do i have a different hardware or what?
Different roms will get you different results. Gingerbread roms appear to run around 1000+ while Froyo roms run closer to 1300+. Run it a few times and you should get a better score. Quadrant doesn't really matter too much though. What's important is how the phone feels for you not what a graphic tells you.
Thanks for reply, but the problem is that i'm having different results than people on the same rom.
And does the quadrant score affects on how smooth the games are running?
Do you have a lot of apps installed on your internal memory? The "cleaner" the phone is the more optimized. Junk apps will definitely decrease performance. As for running games, quadrant doesn't affect how smooth your game is running but does show performance measures that could be related to efficiencies of your phone. Theoretically, the higher the quadrant score the better your phone will be at running your games.
What file system are you using...quadrant takes your free space for apps in score consideration..
If your using data2sd and have 2gb for internal(ext2,3,4) then quadrant is going to show a better score than those on rfs.

Oh ok..
But my point was having lesser apps and having more. Internal space will increase the quadrant..
Sent from my GT-I5800 using Tapatalk
Which rom(s) are you using?
FYI - Fresh install of 2.1 will only get you around 500. JIT enabled gets you around 600+, removing additional junk apps will get you 700+. 2.2 Roms will get you over 1000+ easily. Z's Froyo beta 3 got me around 1500+. Others including Gingerbread hover around 900-1300.
I have tried CM7.0.3 J020c and trip's froyo.
In both roms my quadrant is about 1000, but for other people trip's rom giving them about 1400-1500.
I am on wolfbreaks rom..(as per my signature)
The only other thing i do is move all aps to the sd card that can be moved and leave the ones with widgets on my internal memory.
I average about 1450 to 1550 with my best score of 1609.
Run it a few times as well..
On J's rom I run around 900-1200. Never tried running quadrant on Trip's froyo but on his Arc rom I get around 1000-1250. Again, quadrant isn't that big of a deal. Your games will run fine on your phone. Remember, try to have more free internal memory and get rid of junk apps you don't need.
on wolfbreaks rom. i move all apps to the sd card (except widgets)
1300 - 1400
Okay, thank you, guys, quadrant isn't important, but it's kinda wierd that i'm having lower stats than other people.

Its not weird at all. Everyone has different apps and settings which affect benchmarks differently. Higher Quadrant scores don't neccessarily translate to better performance either so why does it matter. Also in order to get reliable scores in quadrant you need to run it twice in a row as the OS will kill apps and adjust as the test runs the first time and the second test is always higher and more consistent.

So, everybody(somebody)((nobody)), explain to me the advantages of ext4 w/o journaling. I understand that write speeds for sd cards(?) is supposed to be better. My question is, where do we see the advantages? I ran an antutu benchmark on my phone and the write speeds were not the insane 150mb/s-ish write speed scores that Neutrino did when he posted that photo on his thread a while back, something more like a class 10 score IIRC. Anybody that can shed some light on this will receive my thanks!

Take a look at this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010807.
He explains well about boosting sd cards speed. You can do that by using Rom Toolbox which you can download in the Market. If you want to try it with Rom Toolbox, it's under Performance -> SD Boost and you'd like to change the default value, normally 128, to 1024 or 2048.

Everything just runs faster and smoother. You may not notice it, but if you revert back to a stock ROM, you will feel frustrated as it'll feel much slower/choppier.
And those insane write speeds were due to GT-S mod, not because of Ext4.
Ahh that was my blunder. Thanks for clarifying.

Do you mean all nooks clocked over 1200mhz is bad, or just running cm9? I'm running cm7.1 at 1325mhz, and just want to make sure I'm not doing something stupid. Thanks
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk 2
Yes and no. If you have a 24/7 overclock of above 1200 MHz, then it is very unstable and can cause damadge. The Texas Instruments OMAP is good at managing overclock up to 1200 MHz, so if your 1200 MHz and don't go over that, you should be fine. It dosent matter what software, it is all the same processor.
In other words, if you are constantly running the way you are, you may be slowly damadging the processor and after a long period of time it will just die completely. Now if you just clock it that high when gaming or running a system taxing process, then you should be just fine, as long as you lower it into acceptable levels when you are done with said process.
I hope this helps!
Yes that does help, and thank you. I've jumped into all of this with absolutely no knowledge of computers or anything related and would never forgive myself ifI did something to damage my nook. Lol. You are using a ssandisk class 4 card? if not You may have problems. I use only Sandisk sd cards 8 or 16 GB cards.
You write the image file to the sdcard, remove the sdcard then reinsert card back into the computer, then use easeus or mintools partision program to resize the partision to about 1GB (do not resize above 1.87gb or you will have problems), remove and reinsert the card and then copy the ICS nightly to the sdcard. follow the rest of the insrtuction from there.
Adding on to Paul's post (which did a nice complete job, I might add.), you want to do a full wipe of the SD Card using your NookColor (preferable because Windows 7 dosent recognized some items you flash to the SD card) or Computer.
I have a Nook Color 1.4.2 running Verygreen CM7 via SD Card. I installed Nova v3.50.apk and I get the game running in a very small screen on my Nook Color.
What am I doing wrong? How can it run full screen like yours?

Where'd did you get your dalingren kernel? The only ones I can find are for CM7. My nook is now running the latest nightly build of eyeballer's non open gl cm9, and i can only Overclock to 1200 mhz max
All you need is to get the Nook color tools app here. It is free by the way. If you have any other problems just contact me via this thread PM message or by my email address in the Main Thread.
