[Q] Bootloader and Root Question - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know, i know i am a noob, but i have a question. If i root my Motorola Atrix, did that unlock the bootloader. I want to install the ROM Aura and in the Requirements: it said you need an unlocked bootloader, and i know i am rooted but not sure if i have an unlocked bootloader. Any help?

Rooting does NOT unlock the bootloader. What you need is use the IHOP (AKA Pudding) method.
Info about that is in the Dev section. Just search for IHOP and that will give you the info about how to unlock the BL...

Bootloader Unlock struggles

I upgraded to stock OTA 2.3.4 yesterday, but need to get root so I was going to unlock the bootloader.
Seems OEM unlock fastboot command does not work, as it says "oem unlock is not implemented"
Any ideas?
flash pudding and try again. and, im pretty sure you don't need to unlock the BL to get root.
Preinstall method should work on locked BL.

You have to RSD the modified sbf after the stock upgrade to get the unlocked bootloader then you can use the fastboot OEM unlock command.

I thought RSD SBF on OTA 2.3.4 =permabrick

I followed the instructions in the [DEV] forum and unlocked the bootloader and fastbooted new recovery with CWM and applied root from a new stock Atrix. I'm not a total noob having unlocked the bootloader on the Xoom now running Tiamat 1.1 and a Cappy on Continuum 6.1.

Yes you have to have an unlocked bootloader to load the newer roms on your phone

Thanks for the info and that sucks things were easier before I updated to gingerbread. Ok so if I unlock my bootloader and something goes wrong down the road can I restore it back to factory so it can be sent in for repairs

After bootloader unlock?

Would it still be possible to use my backups from when on a locked bootloader or would there be issues caused.
I want to unlock bootloader but am happy with my rom for time being.
But wanting to try different things. Means need bootloader unlocked.
Any info appreciated
Thanks

Yes, backups from a locked bootloader work on an unlocked bootloader. And it does not relock the bootloader.
Thank you made my decision much easier

If I rooted first can I still unlock

Yes I rooted my phone first. Want to unlock it do I need to unroot first or can I just unlock the phone. If so do I just the normal way of unlocking

You can unlock the normal way. You may or may not have to reroot.

I think you need to be rooted before you can unlock your phone.

You need to rooted to unlock. Unlocking changes the bootloader to an unlocked one and does not affect the status of your root. You will however lose 4G.
No, you do not need to be rooted to unlock.

[Q] Downgrade from 4.5.141 to 4.5.91

Is it possible without hard bricking the phone? The upgrade is causing WAY more trouble than it's worth and a lot happier running roms. Thanks.

Got another question but not gonna make a new post, can you use the auto boot unlocker to unlock/root 4.5.141? It's only updated to .91

Was your bootloader previously unlocked?

I can at least keep this alive and going. Mine was previously unlocked, and, once the update applied, which did it overnight without my permission (HNNNGH), I lost it. What do I do now?

Yes /10 char
I think you will find that you just lost the unlock graphic; unlocking involves burning out one of the eFuses, so you can't relock.
Hi everone
Im using a rooted, BT UL Atrix 4G with 2.3.6 4.5.191. and Im wondering if this is possible to perform this downgrade or/to 2.3.4
I want to do that becouse my GPS takes a lot to get a fix and I had no luck with other methods like: changing gpsconfig, recalibrating compass, using different radios
Thanks
Downgrading to 2.3.4 IS POSSIBLE provided you have previously unlocked your bootloader AND you have a backup of 2.3.4 through CWM.
This is treacherous territory, and I'm not sure if there's been resolution on whether or not it's safe.
Your safest bet? Fruit cake it back to 4.5.91.

Don't do it. You will get failed to boot 2.

No that would brick it and you would be screwed. We already saw this issue when people tried to go backwards from GB to Froyo...

I have used the automatic bootloader unlock for 4.5.141 but I may be just lucky

Yeah it is working fine on 4.5.141 ... Unlocked and Rooted, running Neutrino 2.8 GT
But the phone is heating up even @ 1 GHz. (no undervolt)
So was curious if flashing the ROM over 4.5.91 will help or not.
- Is it not possible to downgrade even using Nottach's method? Flashing the 4.5.91 images directly from fastboot and not bothering with RSD ?
NVM...

So is it feasible?
Downgraded successfully by flashing the separate partition using moto-fastboot.
Got the 4.5.91 images from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163342
wifi error.....
