Would it still be possible to use my backups from when on a locked bootloader or would there be issues caused.
I want to unlock bootloader but am happy with my rom for time being.
But wanting to try different things. Means need bootloader unlocked.
Any info appreciated
Thanks

Yes, backups from a locked bootloader work on an unlocked bootloader. And it does not relock the bootloader.
Thank you made my decision much easier

I know, i know i am a noob, but i have a question. If i root my Motorola Atrix, did that unlock the bootloader. I want to install the ROM Aura and in the Requirements: it said you need an unlocked bootloader, and i know i am rooted but not sure if i have an unlocked bootloader. Any help?
Rooting does NOT unlock the bootloader. What you need is use the IHOP (AKA Pudding) method.
Info about that is in the Dev section. Just search for IHOP and that will give you the info about how to unlock the BL...

Yes I rooted my phone first. Want to unlock it do I need to unroot first or can I just unlock the phone. If so do I just the normal way of unlocking

You can unlock the normal way. You may or may not have to reroot.

I think you need to be rooted before you can unlock your phone.

You need to rooted to unlock. Unlocking changes the bootloader to an unlocked one and does not affect the status of your root. You will however lose 4G.
No, you do not need to be rooted to unlock.

Just want to ask guys if it's okay to unlock the bootloader using a custom rom?
Thanks for future answers
Hi,
I'm not sure to understand. You mean that tou want to unlock your bootloader by flashing a custom ROM ?
If so, it's not possible. Depending on your phone, you'll need to unlock your BL manually, via Sony's website or with "test-point method" (there may also be other methods).
If you mean that you want to unlock your phone using a "regular" method, while you're using a custom ROM compatible with locked BL, then I'd answer yes. But you may not be able to access the Sony "hidden" menu to check if it's successful.
Also, your post's title is not very explicit...
Thanks for the reply, but what I mean is I am using custom rom right now with a locked bootloader. And my question is, is it okay to unlock my bootloader even I am not on stock firmware?

Well first you need to know the uses of unlocking a bootloader and also its consequences.
By unlocking your phone's bootloader, you will be able to flash custom kernels to your phone with which you will also get the option of overclocking and underclocking your phone!
BUT
You will lose your warranty and the DRM keys will be lost.
So,if you think that it's great to unlock your bootloader and you don't care about the consequences,go ahead!
Enjoy your phone's true powers then!

You're sure you want to overclock? Because that could even destroy the phone and I guess you have a higher battery draining

I don't really use overclocking always because my previous phone got some overheating issues. But I will overclock my phone when I will play an hd game because it really lags alot.

I have a x10 running 2.3.3 official firmware.
I have rooted it.
So have I unlocked the bootloader?
If no,how to unlock it??
Sent from my X10i using xda premium
Rooting is not part of unlocking bootloader. Check first by dialing *#*#7378523#*#* and if bootloader says YES then you can unlock it. But if you are locked in a specific carrier then you need to unlock your sim first then proceed to unlocking bootloader. Check the development thread and look for proper bypass for bootloader unlocking.

Yes, but with more limited options than unlocking bootloader. Now we have working recovery but requires unlocking bootloader. Recovery w/o unlocking bootloader is still in progress, check the original android development section.

thanks; I know I have read that unlocking the bootloader currently disables some features in the phone, but I am sure its only a matter of time till the fantastic devs get that sorted out..plus, once they announce who is carrying this phone in the US, there will be ALOT more people, including devs, jumping on board! :good:
Mine is rooted with vroot and i m not sure will it lost DRM keys or not.
