Of course , using CM7 naturally removes your phone from Samsung's hands

why does everyone seems to expect cm to behave like samsungs rom? its completely two different thing.
It's not supposed to work with CM7

Well KIES is very weird, but there's one thing i liked on it, manage contacts (that's all).
Can i use another program to do that for me? maybe an alternative to KIES?

What you should and could do is to sync your contacts with google, just found out about it a couple of weeks ago actually xD
Whatever changes you make on your computer changes the phone, you gotto do it on your gmail (or google contacts).
By doing this you have all your contacts in a cloud which you're able to access from anywhere with internet connection.
I remember someone posted a workaround. You need this file to be added for kies to detect the phone.
Anyway I only used kies once to get the phone drivers right. For contacts, google contacts is the best. Anytime I switch rom my contacts stays.

The most convenient program is MobileGo. Edit your contacts with google native is not so convenient.
And yes, there is tutorial at the CM's theme about how to extract contacts from kies copy.

then couldn't retrive them

This was told in another thread. You have to convert into .vcf and then import from contacts.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17648415#post17648415
Im going to try this google sync... It's good to have all your contacts whenever you need. Nowadays there's a PC everywhere, so it becomes very easy if you are not with you phone in hand.
Thank you guys.

Hi,

Can i also download apps in PC and install somehow like iTunes for iPhone/iPod?
Thanks in advance

Don't you have 3g data or other internet connectivity to use the market? I don't know if your computer can be used as internet source, most people want to do it the other way round. I believe Samsung Kies can be used as a contact manager. I don't know of a way to install apps via a computer. If you can download the apk of the application, copy that to your phone and using a file manager install them from there.
Kies: http://www.samsungapps.com/about/onPc.as?COUNTRY_CODE=GBR&LANGUAGE_CODE=ENG
If you don't have a wireless access point in your house you can still create one "virtually". There is lots of free/paid software for windows XP and up that will basically turn your laptop's wifi chip into what the phone see as an access point. Most these apps are really easy to use requiring no computer knowledge to set up. Just google virtual access point (insert windows version here).
As to the second question export your contact list on your nokia to a memory card as a .vcf. Insert said memory card to your galaxy s2 open contact list click the menu button and press Import/export afterwards choosing the approperiate option. Alternative would be to export your contacts to something like outlook(windows) adress book (mac) and use it as a hub to sync back the info to your new device

Best way is export from your Nokia, then import into your Gmail account using the computer. Then your contacts will sync automatically.
I'm a Nokia user too. Welcome to android, a whole different experience .
Download is to phone not PC .

Hi - I am not sure if your problem is solved or not. I have a Nokia 5800 and I selected the option (markall) and send via bluetooth. I had about 500 contacts and they were transferred without a problem.
The convoluted way of doing it is Sync using Ovisuite which syncs to Outlook. Use Go Contact Sync (Free). Syncs perfectly. U can keep Go Contact sync running so that it syncs any updates to the outlook.
Hope this helps. Sorry if you have already tried all these.
Hi ,
i'm trying to use Kies to export my contacts to the PC but when it reaches 60% this error occurs "Stopped loading GT-I9100's contacts" although i used it from 3 weeks ago and it was working fine , i tried many times and still getting the same error . My kies version is 2.2.0.12014_18 , SII stock version. IS there something wrong with the phone or in Kies?!!
Thanks

1. Try to un-install KIES and re-install it.
2. Try to use another USB port/cable.
3. Don't use KIES. Just upload your contacts into your Google account and let your phone synch contacts from there. So you do not need to backup your contacts with KIES to your PC. Let Google backup your contacts on their servers ;-)
Good luck !

You installed something on your device and updated your PC since the last sync.
Search for myphoneExplorer. It's nearly the same as kies, but more stable and usefull. Kies sucks

eeee it is most effective action for safe your contacts) and anywhere with internet you can restor it in your anyone android device)))
hi,
I was running Andriod 4.0.4 jelly-bean(nexus) on my Galaxy S II GT-I9100. I saved contacts using "Backup contacts" app from store. It saved contacts as ".csv" file. Now I switched to Android 4.0.4 ICS for galaxy S II GT-I9100. this requires a ".vcf" file to recover contacts.
so, here're question:
1. Can I convert .csv file to .vcf file (please state a simple solution) ?
2. Can they be recovered?
3. is there a restoring app which could read a .csv file and load contacts to my phone?
Thanks (in advance).
Why would you need or think you need to do any of this? Your google account automatically backs up your contacts and restores them to device upon adding account to device.
There just isnt any real need to backup/restore with CSV.
However if you insist..

el-O-el for link
I have almost half of them restored via google. but I lost loads too. The .csv file when opened in Microsoft Excell Shows those missing contacts.
)
BTW: I found my answer. Just to help some peeps like me (because there are several awkward solutions on internet) the solutions is pretty simple.
you can upload your CSV file to goole from your computer and sync any of your phone again. they will be restored.
Cheers.
Hi All,
Long time reader, first time poster (hopefully in the right section). I am an absolute novice so please bear with me. I rooted my Razr M (XT905) to remove a bunch of the pre installed apps.
All worked fine and phone runs great. But I cant import my contacts from my google account. Gmail and app store syncing works fine, just contacts are missing.
When I access the options menu in the contact section, google isn't showing. When I look at the accounts in the settings menu, the google account is there and has the option checked to sync 'people details' (guessing this is the same as contacts).
So I'm guessing I've deleted something when removing the apps.
Any ideas as to what I might have done and how I can fix this?
Appreciate any help.

You should have a contacts sync option in Google acount. Maybe you deleted GoogleContacstSyncAdapter.apk or ContactsProvider.apk from /system/app folder

Which android version are you using? I'm attaching 4.4 version apks for you, but I'm not sure if it will work with previous Android versions. Put the apks in system/app folder (ContactsProvider should go to system/priv-app if you're on Android 4.4), change permissions to 644 (see attached image) and reboot.
If those don't work, try searching for apks from the same Android version as yours. You can find it in xda.
Please reply if it worked or not cause another user can try and help you too, but i hope it helps bro.

Thanks for the replies. Using 4.1.2.
When I've tried to copy the GoogleContactsSyncAdapter file using ES File Explorer, I get the message in the attached screenshot. How do I get around this?
Gotta mount the system as Read/Write(should be something similar to this: On the left hand panel "Tools->Root Explorer->Mount R/W" then pick your preferred options.) , and make sure to change the permissions once you move them there (here's a short little video guide - older ES, but same idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hhXuQ0_B28).
I also hope you aren't trying to use the ones posted here for this as it surely won't work properly.
Did you make sure to see if you were actually missing those apps?
Thanks again for the replies.
All good now. Flashed the pacman 4.4 update with the correct apps and all working.
Only problem now is wifi wont turn on. When I toggle it on, it stays grey and no networks are detected.
Any suggestions for this issue?
Never mind, all sorted, thanks again
