Hey guys I recently came to att from sprint. I had their galaxy s2 version but decided to get the kg thrill... I have no complaints about the phone except their is no development happening. Should I go ahead and get the att sg2? Is it worth it?

What do you expect people to say when you ask this question in the AT&T Galaxy S2 forum?
I think you already made up your mind and just want to hear some form of confirmation...
So here it is: Yes, Galaxy S2 is great!
I used the LG Thrill for a month before exchange the the SG2. Yes much much better except no 3-crappy-D

Honestly I had made up mind...lol.... I just wanted to know if anyone who had the thrill found any significant difference....I only had my sg2 from sprint for about 2 weeks....
I'd like to ask a question as well without threadjacking too much, but I didnt want to make a new thread. I know this is a SGSII forum, but what do you guys think of the SGSII vs. the Samsung Infuse 4G? Very similar phones, my wife has an Infuse already. Is it worth the jump in $ for the SGSII?
I chose the Thrill for a few reasons, cheaper, dual channel RAM, dedicated HDMI port with included cable, and 3D. Check my posted from a week or two ago, I defended this decision on the sgs and Thrill forums.
After three weeks, unable to find a solution to my stereo Bluetooth issues that wasn't temporary, and when gtg left I bounced. The Thrill is a solid phone, it had great specs, and has amazing potential, but I'm not a dev and I cannot tap into that potential without a dev. When all the rats are jumping off a ship it makes you wonder if you should stay. Not that I am calling devs rats, but they are more in tune with the situation than an end user.
Immediately I did not regret jumping to the SGS II. Its faster, no doubt, 1GB RAM seems to outperform 512 of the faster variety. I prefer TouchWiz, opposed to what LG was running. Here there was two ROMs within a week of launch. There's another, and a few other devs are still working an yet to be releases ROMs. Here I am eating my humble pie. I would not go back. The sgs ii feels amazing in hand, its noticibly lighter and thinner. I thought 3D was cool (and seemed batter than the EVOs), but the viewing angles are narrow, and I just didn't use it except to show other people.
If in doubt go into a store and just use the SGS II for a few minutes, I don't think the decision will be hard once you get one in your hands.

Glad you asked because I wanted to know the same... it would only be an extra 100 for me to upgrade to sg2 and nothing to get the infuse...

I had the Infuse prior to my GS2 and I definitely think it's worth the bump in price. I loved the Infuse don't get me wrong, but the GS2 is really a great bump in every aspect.

My GF has the Infuse and it's a good device. I think it's worth the price bump to get the GS2 (even more so when the already decent development gets even better). RAM is the most significant point to me. Personally, 512mb is not enough. Otherwise, I'd be fine with the Infuse. The GS2 projects to the future a little better as well.

Of course. I don't even take the Thrill seriously.
I had the infuse and sold it the day this came out. The development of already way ahead. And GTG is here too now.

All I can tell you is that the SG II is the best phone I have ever owned. As too if you should switch or not that depends on what you want out of your phone. If the Thrill does everything you want it too, I guess i would say stay with it.
Personally I have tried the Thrill and I think the SG II is just a better phone, but that is only MY opinion.
I love my Galaxy S 2. On my second one after it got stolen.

Ok guys, the time is almost upon us. Who's gonna be getting the SGS II on ATT this weekend? I plan on calling my local B&M stores to see who has it(possibly for a lower price)
I posted here, because the Captivate is a Galaxy S phone and there is no dedicated forum for the ATT SGS II yet
Ide like to get it. But I don't know how much its gonna be off contract

They took too long to get it out. The Nexus Prime is just around the corner and there are already rumblings about a quad-core SGS III for the first half of next year. I'm going to wait and see what the Prime is all about and if there are any problems with it. If not, I may jump on the Prime. If the GPS sucks or something else is wrong with it, I'll wait for the SGS III.
Plus, it looks like the SGS2 won't have LTE. If I'm going to be locked into a phone for 18 to 24 months, I'll want LTE capability for when it starts rolling out.
I guarantee if I buy an HSPA phone, they'll put an LTE tower in my back yard a week later.
[raises hand]
I'll be getting it.
Dual core HSPA+ is fine with me, and the by the time a quad-core with LTE is available through AT&T I will be able to get the discount again. No point in waiting since AT&T is the only carrier that reaches my house.

This was my thinking for a little while but a few things swayed me back. The prime is rumored to have a 4.65" or bigger display. This is just way to big for me. The only way I could see this feeling nice is if the screen took up more space on the front, meaning closer to the edges. For example if it was the entire phone was the same size as the infuse it might not be too bad. As for LTE that doesn't matter to me because by the time they have a decent and functional network this phone will be long gone. Also rumors suggest that once you get an LTE phone you automatically get switched to a 2gb plan. No more unlimited .
Another thing to consider is that we don't know when this phone will launch on at&t. Verizon could easily have an exclusivity period and we could be left waiting and drooling for months.
But the real icing on the cake for me is I'm using a family members upgrade for this. My line is due for an upgrade in May so we'll see what happens then.
I'm torn. I love my Captivate, it's rooted and running great, except for a few GPS quirks. As awesome as the GSII looks, I may hold off for a little bit anyway to get some feedback, especially with respect to GPS, rooting, and battery life. Plus, I'll need a good case like my Body Glove TPU Case...

Yeah I love my Captivate too. Its been super smooth on GB 2.3.5! Much more than I ever imagined when I first got it. I'm hoping the SGS II will be the same way. With little time there will be safe rooting methods and some really stable Roms
I'm getting one. The way my plan is setup I can upgrade every year (my wife gets the old phone) . So no issue here. Also, there's always a new and best just around the corner as soon as something awesome is available in the market.

Go cruise the SGSII section to answer your questions. Apparently they are getting pretty good battery life out of them. Haven't seen a single bad GPS thread, and there are several ROMS available. Now that the US is starting to get these, i'd expect the developement to get even heavier. I guess that answers most of your questions.
You gotta remember that this phone has been out for several months already and is the number one selling phone in Europe and Asia. It's just now hitting here.

Gettin one for sure. Been waiting forever. I cant wait around for quadcore or lte. Single core has been fast enough. So I posted a few weeks back that I busted the screen on my OG SGSII. So after a few weeks of waiting for Geek Squad to figure out they can't get parts for it yet, they determined, I'm eligible for a replacement phone. So after some talking to the BestBuy guy he lets me know they actually send store credit in the full retail price of the phone. So I asked how much the Skyrocket was retailing and luckily it was the exact same retail price. So with a few questions I had him seeing if he could substitute the Skyrocket. And what do you know I left with a Skyrocket!! I could barely contain myself. I was already angry about how long the took with my original phone and had intentions of taking the phone back for the skyrocket, but it was shipped to their repair department and I missed my 30 exchange period. This entirely made up for all the hassles I had! Anyway, just wanted to share! Loving it so far!
But this isn't the skyrocket forum.....?

No one is offended, but a few might be confused. General consensus is that despite LTE and "faster" processor clock, the OG ASGS2 is the better phone. The Samsung Exnyos CPU is generally better regarded vs. the Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.5 GHz in the Skyrocket, the larger display means greater pixel separation, LTE is a niche technology unavailable in most markets so far, there's a risk that the SR could be a carrier-branded device with limited dev support, etc...
Don't get me wrong, I remain superbly annoyed that AT&T got me on the hook for a new contract when thye knew that a new device was just weeks over the horizon, but I haven't been even a little bit tempted to exchange for an SR. I just used it to get them to give me a bill credit.

I highly recommend the Galaxy S II. If you wait for something better, then you will always be waiting because newer, bigger phones will always be coming out. Right now, at this very moment, the GS2 is the BEST phone to get, and I believe it will remain on top for AT LEAST the next year.
In short as I',m sure at least 97% of the users here will tell you... I'm gonna say... Yes. You should. However if you don't mind waiting then keep waiting until the next great wonder phone drops.
"...something better", define your term.
HW spec., I'm sure there are phones that has higher freq., higher lcd resolution, .... that might not be suitable for "better", especially development supports.
Skyrocket is one example and Skyrocket HD is on the list to be released.
The Note will be out shortly, I'd guess less than a month.

AT&T Note variant is crippled... Crapdragon means no pulling any goodness from the GT-N7000 community.
It's not like the Captivate being able to pull from I9000 and us being able to pull from I9100. Yes, our development community is fairly small - but it doesn't need to be large because nearly everything happening in the massive I9100 community is applicable to our devices too.
The AT&T Note won't have that.
Yes - only if you are in non-LTE market/area
No - if you are in 4g LTE market or near-future LTE market
Starting Feb'12 at&t is going to introduce a lot of 4g LTE phones including skyrocket HD.
Even in an LTE market, I would not recommend any of the LTE devices. LTE is not yet mature, just like 3G wasn't mature when the first iPhone was released. (One of the few things Apple has done that I fully support is not jumping on the OMG NEW RADIO TECH!!!! bandwagon when it was CLEAR that the new radio tech was bad for battery life and phone size.)

Definitely. It's such an amazing phone, and the people on this forum are really helpful.

I say yes you should get it. I Recently came from the Inspire(DHD).It took me awhile to get use to how light Samsung phones feel compare to HTC. I would recommend going to a local At&t or retail store and try the phone out to see if its to your liking. You don't want to pay for a phone your not going to like.

AT&T currently doesn't have a phone that is powerful as the OG Galaxy SII. Sure there is the Note and SkyRocket but they aren't as powerful. Seems that everyone else doesn't want to play nice so I'll add my own opinion. I think that the only phone that will be able to give our phone a decent challenge will be the HTC One X when it comes to AT&T supposedly in April. It looks to be a pretty nice phone, hopefully AT&T doesn't mangle it too bad.

Will agree with this one, the only problem some of the other phones that AT&T carries is that they simply bloat them to death and it kind of gives the phones a bad rap when reviewed by alot of the review sites.
Would love to see a review where the majority of the phones are benched/reviewed side by side with stock firmware/rom's vs rooted/custom rom's
I came from a Motorola Atrix to this and it was a definite upgrade. Great phone, and imo atleast for NOW, its the best. I'm sure something will come along soon and trump it, but till then, we're the kings of the mountain.

It does look like a nice phone, and I would have probably gotten it as a 2nd phone if it had a micro sd slot. the S4 chip seems impressive, but I'm sure the next exynos chip will crush it though once it's released
Coming from HTC Dream (G1), it is a step up for me for SGSII. But of couse, AT&T screwed it up with how they managed this device (not reconized it as 4G..DUH!!!). HTC One X seem to be the up to the task to match up to SGSII. But then we'll have to see.
Well coming from an iPhone and inspire this way way way better then any phone I have ever seen att carry.like mention before the HTC one XL may be the only phone to challenge this one(maybe the rumored galaxy s3 ) but not being able to remove the battery is one of its downfalls .
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Yeah the One X looks like the first HTC phone in a while that could hold up against the Samsung.
The GS III could be earlier this year than last year. If the att variant is as close to the international as the i777 was to the i9100, then the One X will be back-seated quick.
But, the Captivate is still pretty strong after two years. Heck, they had ICS before we did. I would guess the i777 will continue to be popular for about the same timeframe, 2 years.

"Powerful" is in the eye of the beholder. I love my GSII, it is way snappy, but if I am in the bay area (which I am pretty regularly) I cant take advantage of the LTE there. All depends on what you value.

The SD card slot isn't too big of a deal to me because of the fact that the phone should be coming with a 32GB internal storage which is what my S2 has with the SD card added. The non removable battery could be more of a problem if it has the typical HTC battery life. If I didn't have my S2 right now and was ready for an upgrade I'd definitely give the One X a chance.
Just read the specs on HTC One, unless I missed something, it looks like HTC made the display .2" bigger than the GSGII Skyrocket just so they don't look like they are behind Samsung. Ya it is a nice phone but not nice enough to leave SGSII.
I know this is going to start a argument between people but.... I used to own a fasciante, screen was great, loved the look the phone. but overall i hated it. absolutely hated it. it was slow, buggy, a lot was broken on that phone and it was a pain in the ass to put any custom roms on it(or something in the modifying side of things was, i can't really remember) so i went to the droid x.
since then i've been using mainly moto and htc devies, own the razr maxx now, rooted and running ICS. I have used all of the samsung devices currently on vzw, and, well, putting it nicely they all are garbage. but I see the GS III coming out and it looks very promising, and i love the actual design of the phone. but it being a samsung phone it worries me that it will just be garbage again.
as a vzw customer i never really got to experience the SII(had the nexus, but it's not the same) so my question is, coming from anyone who had a SI, and hated it as much as I did, how does the SII compare?
i would love to get the SIII, i just dont want to be disappointed and regret not getting the RAZR HD instead.
edit: just a note, i know there are reviews out and there and some smartass is going to link me to one, but I actually want to hear from people who know what the **** they're talking about. thanks!
I owned the fascinate too, but I dont get how it was a pain in the as to put roms on. Although I would like to say the difference between the fascinate and the SGS2 is great, i cant speak for it considering you are in the US. Verizon doesnt have the SGS2, nor does any international SGS2 work on verizon. I own the i9100 (not the US version, as in one from Sprint, tmobile or at&t) and I use it on AT&T, and its absolutely fantastic. I dont see any point in purchasing a SGS3 since the SGS2 does everything I need it to. Also feels very smooth.

What was you're opinion of the SI? Just to get an idea of where you are coming from. I do appreciate the fast response though.
