I got an Evo 3d off craigslist. It is 1.5hboot
How long should it take to charge? My last HTC phone the inspire charged in an hr or so. My last phone before this was the samsung epic 4g. I thought HTC charged faster? Right now it charges at the same rate 3hrs
Should I ask for refund or take it to sprint store?
mine doesn't even charge in three hours lol.

It depends on how you are charging it. If its completely dead and your charging it using a laptop or computer it will take longer than charging it using a wall outlet.
The evo had a larger battery and there is no way it will charge from dead to fully charged in an hour ..just be patient ..wait for the green light
I just use a separate battery charger and cycle 3 batteries. So I always have a fresh one waiting.

The 1.5hboot is the only thing you got screwed for
But yeah, the battery does take pretty long to charge. Also if you didn't know, when it gets to 100% it depletes automatically to 95% and then charges again to 100% and keeps doing that till you take it out the charger.
From completely dead, using the wall charger, it takes about 3.5 to 4 hours for mine. This was before I bought the 2 Anker battery + external charger combo. Now I rarely have to plug in my phone except to top off the remaining 10% on the OEM battery that the external charger doesn't charge.
Thanks guys
Can you post a link to those anker batteries?
I don't even know how long mine takes I just keep it on the charger while sleeping, and when I wake up, it's full.

My phone takes about 6 hours to charge completely ... but then again.... I have an uber battery
from what others have said its normal mine takes about 3 hrs from 1%
i use batter indicator widget (paid) and it shows how long it will take to charge usually is correct too.
From dead to full mine take about 2 hours from the outlet... So i guess it varys....
EVO3D seems to charge diffrent then other phones. Mine will get to 90 percent ish in 90-120mins, that other 10 percent seems to take an eternity to get to. I think as the phone gets full the charging slows down to a very low trickle charge.

I don't see any suggestions for charging the Evo 3D for the first time. Anyone know whats best to do as far as not messing up my battery when I just got the phone?
You should be good with topping it off before u start using it if you want ur battery to be calibrated or whatever
^ yup... mine has been on the charger for about 30 minutes now... still havent powered it on yet.
Always wondered it that made a damned bit of difference in the long run.
Usually so anxious to dive into it I plug it in and dive.
I'm gonna condition it anyway that night.
Any thoughts?
Doesn't the battery already come fully charged?
They're usually about half charged...and the suggest you fully charge before using.
you can use it, but dont take it off charger until it is fully charged.
and no they dont come fully charged, the phones are partially charged.

as long as you do it at somepoint you should be fine...
Just most people never do it and wonder why they lose 15% so quickly
This is an old wives tale. Totally untrue.

so no difference?
i mean it would amaze me that if u just start using your phone, instead of fully recharging it once, would somehow ruin the battery for the rest if its life
dadoc how long did it take for yours to fully charge because i've had mine charging for an hour or more and no green light yet
fwiw, I've been charging it with the phone turned off for about an hour and 15 minutes and still no green light.
well no green light could be a GOOD thing
becuase the EVO used to give green light and it wasnt fully full
Took about 1.5 hours..... i used that BS charger that came with it so it took longer than expected

Mine has been charging now for about 2 hours and still red light. When I first plugged it in it was flashing red for about 5 minutes, so I'm assuming my battery was damn near dead. (have not turned it on and won't until it is fully charged)
I am charging it off my work computer's USB port since the cable won't reach an outlet from my desk so I know my charging will be slower than using an AC outlet

You might wanna charge it using ac power not the usb port....especially if the phone is turned off. If you need to sit it on the floor for it to reach or go look for a powerstrip or something. If its still red it likely not charging.

I usually don't charge from USB but I don't have my long ass USB cable on me.

Lithium ion batteries don't need a precharge and also don't have a memory. Don't overcharge it or let it completely run out of charge. Charge whenever you want.

For some reason my 3D's battery never achieves 100% charge. I leave it charging using the HTC charger included and I never get more than 98% charge after 12 hours.
Anyone else have this problem??

Mine does, but it takes a while. Normally it charges up pretty fast up to like 95. Then it slows down and once it gets to 99, it stays there for atleast 10 mins and finally goes to 100. One thing I did notice though is when it gets to 100, even if its on the charger it will start falling back to 99 and 98.
Mine has never reached 100%, even if I unplug it when the light turns green and plug it back in it will just stay at 99%.
I've woken up to 97 or 98, it has never gone above that.
I believe HTC has some sort of smart charger system on here. It will charge quickly to ~ 95, then slow down until it hits 100. Then it will quit charging at all until it drops back down to ~95 or so and repeat the process. Supposedly, it will increase battery life by not overcharging it.

3vo. That is all that needs be said.
The Evo 3D always chargers too 100% what you are seeing is that once the device hits 100% it stops charging and waits till the battery drops to 90% or so before it starts charging again, so what does that mean you're catching the battery after it has stop charging and is recharging again

He is right....on the OG EVO its would display 100 while it was dropping but the 3vo shows the actual percentage
Once the led turns green unplug restart and plug back in. Should now show the led red again and finish charging. After once it should be fine.

I am using an aftermarket stand alone battery charger. When I took it off the charger this morning it only shows at 91%. Does anybody have any idea why that would be the case? I have used this same kind of a setup with my Evo and it was always at 100% when I pulled the battery off the charger. I was even using extended batteries and never had a problem!

Probably some kind of safeguard chip built into the battery that does this even on aftermarket wall chargers. I have never seen this before and every aftermarket charger I have had has charged the batteries to 100% and they stayed there, but maybe HTC got hip to the aftermarket chargers and implemented the battery mod to work on them too. Just a guess and there is no proven fact to this statement.
Run it down, then charge it up
My 3D wouldn't charge to 100% until I ran it until it shut down due to low battery and charged it until the green light like 3 times. Once I hit that magical 3rd time, it showed 100%.
at first it was only orange light , but after unplugging then plugging back in I get green light.
you can get a 100% charger like others have said, but for sure the charging software makes it tricky

Thanks man. I thought I was going crazy, b/c I wake up every morning to about 96% charge after about 8hrs on the charger. Totally makes sense now. (pun intended )
Every wall hub charger I get from ebay has helped charge all my HTC and Nexus S phones better. I always get 100%, and they stay there not draining to 90% in under 5 mins like the wall plug does.
I abhor the wall plug and have avoided it like the plague..not only that, but micro USB breaks very easily and is not a sturdy charging port.
I see them break on every modern model phone today. It's just a horrible unsturdy design. Wish we'd go back to mini usb.

That is the problem. Every one that I have ever used also charged and kept them at 100%. This battery did not. It came off the charger after a full day of being fully charged and it was at 91%
I have seen mine go to 100% once. They must have done something new here with either how it charges, or how it computes the percentage remaining, since this is the first HTC phone I have had (I've had them since the Palm Treos) that doesn't go from 100% to 90% in the first 10 mins of use.
Perhaps HTC has implemented an SBC-like charging system on the E3D

I think it might be something else. The battery does not show 100% even off of the stand alone charger!
Just wanted to see everyones charging times, this is from about empty to 100% or when the led turns green. Just choose the closest one that suits you.
Mine gets it done in 2 1/2 hrs.
Didn't mean to thank you.
It takes like 2.5 hours also thru wall charger.

Used to take many (5-6) hours when doing it via USB, but the fastcharge patch in some of the kernels has changed that to almost wall-speed (2-3 hours) charging.
depending on what I have running, I have charged from dead in just over an hour. If you need a quick juice-up turn turn off Data/Wifi/BT/GPS and you can get a good 60-70 in just over half an hour. You won't miss much world action in that time......heck, it's barely 2 rounds of COD.
2 1/2 hours with wall charger.
same here 2 1/2 hours with wall charger
A lot less with an HTC Charger
As discussed in the downgrade from 1.5 hboot thread, the "official" HTC chargers output more power than a lot of the generic chargers so if you use the wall charger that came with the device it should charge quicker
1 1/2 hrs - 2 usually
but the rom im using only gives 5 hours of heavy use :\
I joke I joke, 5hrs of 4g connection is not bad, not great but not bad.
currently using Romeos3d Iceslated II with stock kernel I believe. the ported Ics has some battery drain issues when your actually using the device
Like 6 hours, I use the battery wall charger and pop a new battery in. So no downtime and always have my phone with me.
I have no idea. I plug it in when I go to sleep and it is charged when I wake up.
mine took 4 horus to fully charge.. any 3rd party battery that you can recommend?
It takes me 2.75 hours to charge from 1%. The HTC wall charger works best since it puts out 1A at 5V. You can buy this OEM HTC charger w/cable really cheap on Amazon. I got the one with the OEM HTC cable. I have one in my computer room, living room, and travel bag. It takes me 4-5 hours using my Sprint car charger. I need to look for an 1A+ car charger.
it usually takes 3 hours if I activate the mobile data connection with auto-sync enabled, if I don't, it only needs 2,5 hours to get fully charged, but I usually prefer the first one.
Here's the scoop, just purchased the car dock designed for the EVO from Sprint and installed it into my semi tractor. I've never worried about how long the battery will last, in terms of months and years. Now, the battery isn't easily replaceable and my phone will be plugged in 24/7. Should I limit the amount of time that my phone is plugged into a 12v outlet? Is it fine to keep the charger plugged in non-stop?

A quick note about my question. Just took my phone off the car dock and battery percentage dropped from full to 95% in a few seconds, the dock is limiting charge?

all my htc phones i keep plugged in my work van. m-f 9 to 14 hr straight. never had any issues. do it now with lte past month. no issues. you will be fine.

First, it is not good to leave a phone on the charger 24/7. Doing that could cause the phone to over heat and mess up the soldering done to the charger port. I would suggest leaving your phone on the charger when it is needed. When your phone gets below probably 50 percent you can plug it back up, but don't just leave it on there. It is not fine to leave the phone on the charger non-stop. I hope I have answered your question.
As soon as I got this phone I noticed it takes a lot longer to charge than the epic 4g touch. From 40% to 100% takes a little over 5 hours. On the E4GT from 0-100 it took about 2.5-3 hours at most. Anyone else experiencing this or do I have a sour battery?
Yep, same 1A charger I used with my previous phone and battery is only 200mAh bigger, 2100 vs. 1900, and it takes so much longer to charge. Looking into 2A chargers yesterday & today.

Not for me. My phone charges (on wall) in less than 3 hours. Maybe 2 1/2. But never more than 3. But at the same time, my battery life is ****. Just leaving it alone for 40 minutes I lost 8%. Now when I use it, it just shoots down. I've had it off the charger for less than 2 hours this morning and I'm at 76 percent. 1 of those hours was just driving.

Ya its funny you should say that I was actually thinking of trying a different cable. Ill try the one that came with my E4GT that always charged my epic in about 2 and a half hours.
