Keep Apps When Flashing New ROM? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Is it safe to use Titanium backup for keeping apps when transferring to another ROM? I searched but only came up with results saying it is okay with other phones. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

as with other phones, yes. it all works the same.
there are a couple of caveats though.
never restore system apps/data
never restore ALL apps+data, utilize the MISSING apps+data batch job.

Switching between ROMS backup- Noob Question

So I have a custom ROM uploaded on my x10 but I see some others I would like to try. I have Titanium Backup but I am having trouble with it. When I switch the the new ROM will it keep all my apps or will it just keep the .apk so I can install them all again? I have a lot of apps so if there is a way it will keep them all installed as well as contacts that would be awesome. Any help would be awesome, thanks!
Use xrecovery to backup and restore and everything will stay the same.
I just tried that and noticed it leaves it just where i left off, awesome but now I am wondering if I install a new ROM will all my apps/data still be installed?
They will be wiped... but when you reflash your backup, they will be back...

I assume what you want to do is flash a different ROM then re-install all your apps + data within that new ROM?? Titanium will easily allow you to do this, just click menu>batch>backup all user apps + system data. That will allow you to restore all your apps and data by running the batch restore after booting in the new ROM. Once you do that and verify your apps are working etc, I recommend backing up with xrecovery because that makes switching between ROMs a lot easier.
Hopefully that helps you out.

You cant restore the CM7 system apps to devoid final. You can restore the apps/games that you downloaded to the devoid final though titanium backup. Just dont restore apps like google maps/talk/ etc which comes preinstalled.
PS: hows the devoid final rom ?
That's right, Use Titanium Backup. I haven't flashed void.final yet because of all the hassle of restoring apps and data.
Firs things first... use Titanium Backup or something similar along with you nand backups. This should make restoring apps easy. Run the backup batch and then the restore batch on the new rom. I do not recommend restoring system data, it may cause faults in the system, especially when going from 2.2 to 2.3 and back.
So, man, restore the nand backup of your CM7, use Titanium Backup batch, re-flash your void.final and then restore the Titanium Backups. That should do it. This procedure is a must if you want to test custom roms, or just flash often.
Cheers!

Mate, better get used to Titanium Backup, it's a life saver if you like modding.
Word of advice: update your backups, and (this is an important one) backup (copy on HDD) your Titanium backups (you can find them on /sdcard/TitaniumBackup/)!

Yeah. Getting Pro with better scheduling (plus Dropbox sync) is worth it, IMHO. Also, the backups are much faster with Pro.

Ah, you mean SMS/MMS... Well, dunno about Titanium. I am backing them up via GO SMS Pro; never liked the stock messaging app really. It can do scheduled backups (binary/XML, full/incremental) and even send the backups to your email.
i will try SMS Backup and Restore from market. if it does not work, i'll try yours! thanks for ur time man and all of u there who shared his time answering my questions!

[Q] Backup & Restore App

My phone isn't rooted or unlocked and I'm currently on the latest ICS (.453) and am considering downgrading to GB (.75).
Does GB come with the Sony Backup & Restore app?
And, if so, can I use it to restore a backup made in ICS and get back my messages, game data, etc.
Thanks in advance!
Backups between OS versions, especially backwards, are always a bad idea.

Titanium Backup seems to handle restoring game data ... which is all I really care about TBH. Just wondered if anyone had tried this...

[Q] All my Titanium backups disappeared!

Today, all my backups in Titanium Backup Pro vanished, but when I scan for them on my external SD, the app says there are 322 backups found and it locates the data, but it won't show up in my apps list.
Never seen this before, and I'm not sure how to resolve it. Not sure what caused, it but I'm hoping some of you might have an idea.
have you tried repointing Titanium Backup to the directory that your apps are backed up to?

would also try this first. If it not helps, try reinstall Titanium Backup (not only the pro key)
Do you have any app filters on by chance? (other than that, if you're restoring files, you can probably do a batch restore then just choose the apps)

[Q] Flashing roms

Hello all,
I am kind of new to rooting. I've owned my S3 for like 4 months but only just now did I decide to root it... I've already installed a custom rom and i couldn't be happier, it's Wanamlite 5.3.
Now I would like to try different roms, such as UltimaRom, as it has a far better Aroma installer with much more customization.
But I've got a question... ¿Do i need to wipe all my data in order to flash the other rom on top of Wanamlite?
Cheers.
You might get lucky and be just fine flashing it on top, but there's a very good chance you'll get a lot of problems. In fact, it probably won't boot at all. So it's always good to do a wipe before switching ROMs. Backup your data and apps in Titanium

Yeah... I'll most likely end up doing that.
Anyway, I was reading the instructions in the UltimaRom post and they mention that you should make a NANDroid Backup using CWM. What is the purpose of this backup? I mean, with Titatanium you can restore your apps, but what kind of data does NANDroid Backup save and restore?
Cheers.
