Hello everyone!! First of all, sorry if this has been posted already and please excuse me as I am completely new to the smartphone and android scene!
I do not own a SGSII yet but I am seeking to buy the white version of the phone, which is currently available at Bell. I'm planning to just buy out the phone itself without a contract because I will be going away to the UK in January for about 9 months. I am aware of the fact that Bell has its own firmware, giving it the name i9100m instead of i9100. So, I was wondering if I root and unlock the phone, will I be able to update the firmware and perform all the functions that a generic i9100 would and therefore be able to use the phone in the UK when I move there?
It might be a stupid question but I just thought I'd better be safe than sorry
Thanks in advance!
Yes, it won't be a problem

Yes it will work, whether you want to unlock it for rogers here in Canada or on a carrier in the UK, the process is the same. You can pretty much flash any rom you want, as rooting the bell phone pretty much breaks kies will to update. At least it did for me
Thanks guys! I thought that I had to go through a different process for unlocking and modifications, thanks again for clearing that up I will be on my way to purchase a SGSII very soon

Hello.
I just bough a T-mobile unlocked Samsung Vibrant and up to now it is working fine. I used the KIES software and saw that there are updates available but I don't know if it is ok to update my phone. Is it still going to work if I install the updates (or it will become locked to T-mobile again)?
I am quite new to this so I would appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance

you should be fine, but It depends what kies is trying to update?
if your running stock and your just unlocked you should be fine.
but if your running a custom rom then its pointless to update through kies anyways.
Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately I am not sure what I am running. I bought the phone unlocked. When I go to the About screen, it sais Firmware version 2.1-update1, build number 'Eclair'.
If the update is for the 2.2 firmware, will I have a problem?
Is there any info on this forum where it explains things like 'What does a locked phone mean', unlocking and firmware updates?
Thanks again
Hello!
My wife has a rooted GS 2 with the stock ROM from TMO. I am concerned that the new OTA (T989VUVKL1)might break her root functionality, repeated update notification, or cause her phone to no longer work. Does anyone know the app I need to freeze to stop the OTA from happening? At some point I will want to upgrade the ROM to the newest one assuming I can keep root access. Thank you for all your help and support!
click SETTINGS/ABOUT PHONE/SOFTWARE UPDATE and uncheck the boxes
Thank you for the quick reply. I don't see that option. After I click on "about phone" there are no such options....
I think I found it... I believe the APK is syncmldm.apk. I will test tonight.

You really should be in a different forum. Your wife's phone is a SGH-T989, which is the T-Mobile branded version of the GS2. The forum we're in now is for the GT-I9100, which is the unbranded international version of the GS2. Same phone in name (Galaxy S2) only. Different phones = slight differences in UI/options.
The forum for the T-Mobile GS2 is here.

Hi all,
I'm a bit of a noob to the Android scene so please be gentle - apologies if this is a daft question.
I'd really like to flash an unbranded ROM to my UK Vodafone S3 but had a couple of questions:
If I flash unbranded, will this have any effect on my contract with Vodafone (other than warranty, of course)? Would calls, text and data still work in the same way?
Would I be able to receive any form of OTA updates? I assume not the Vodafone ones but it would be great to get the Google ones hot off the press
Many thanks in advance for your thoughts.
Regards,
mroshaw

Im vodafone UK and have had no probs with using custom ROMs or unbranded ROMS (only warranty but then you could flash stock rom and use Triangle away)
Only differences I notice is some ROMs have better signal strength but I stay in Highlands so signal is not brilliant anyway lol as for OTA if you custom then OTA generally doesn't work but most devs are quick with updates or you could download and install update yourself pretty easily

Sorry to hijack but but not sure if i can create a new topic as just registered.
I have jumped over from the iPhone ship and was wondering exactly the same thing. My S3 will come with orange branding and i want to remove that - can someone point me to a guide please?

Excellent, thank you for that! I guess my other option is to root and use one of the 'cleanup' Apps out there to remove all the Vodafone bloat. Not sure if I'm that keen to get Jelly Bean or if I should just de-bloat and wait for the OTA Vodafone update...
Hello. Very quick question I'm hoping someone might be able to answer definitively. I picked up a Galaxy Note 3 Neo today (model SM-N507) which is the Taiwanese version. It has only been updated to 4.3 whereas some other territories are on 4.4.X. My question is, would it be possible to flash one of the Official Firmware builds from Sammobile and NOT risk bricking the phone?
For example, in the event that the flashed build has different LTE bands, would a problem like this actually brick the phone, or would I (theoretically) be able to use it, just without LTE? I am willing to experiment so to speak, so long as it doesn't actually prevent me from using the device.
In the past I had purchased a Hong Kong Galaxy Tab 7.7 that wasn't updated to JellyBean and flashed a Malaysian Firmware without a hitch, but in said case the model numbers were the same. With this, I would be flashing SM-N505 or such.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
I'm looking for the latest USA factory unlocked firmware for the Stylo 4 (KDZ file), does anyone know where I can find that? I have looked everywhere I can think of and everyone has carrier specific firmware, but not the one I am looking for.
The specific model is LMQ710ULM.AUSABK.
The IMEI is: 357183090498307

It is the unlocked model sold directly by LG in the USA, so it is non-carrier firmware.

Hi there,
You can try this website.
https://lg-firmwares.com/
or
https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-lmq710ulm-firmwares/#tab=firmwares
since your phone is network unlocked I think it might be safe to reinstall the firmware.
However, if you have your doubts feel free to search it online or ask LG directly.
Sincerely

Thank you. I found out that they never released the KDZ for the factory unlocked phones (region USA). So, the only way to update my phone would be to flash carrier firmware, which, is kinda risky, since it would technically be a crossflash. I would likely lose certain features, such as Wi-Fi calling and/or VoLTE. One of the few firmwares that supports wi-fi calling is the T-Mobile firmware, but I wouldn't flash that firmware because it is different than the hardware of my phone (their model has 2 GB of RAM, mine has 3 GB of RAM, etc...

Hi there,
Yes, while I was researching it online I found two firmware for this phone for the US region. But anyways have you tried using a PC suite from LG to reinstall the firmware. Or have you tried going on to the recovery mode and just reset the whole device. Or better try to install a custom ROM, to be honest I think it might be okay if you flashed a Europe region firmware, but make sure you back up the current firmware. I flashed a Samsung phone which was used to be locked and then I unlocked it after that I flashed the carrier firmware and it didnt carrier locked my phone. But anyways try your best.
Sincerely
