Hi all,
I'm a bit of a noob to the Android scene so please be gentle - apologies if this is a daft question.
I'd really like to flash an unbranded ROM to my UK Vodafone S3 but had a couple of questions:
If I flash unbranded, will this have any effect on my contract with Vodafone (other than warranty, of course)? Would calls, text and data still work in the same way?
Would I be able to receive any form of OTA updates? I assume not the Vodafone ones but it would be great to get the Google ones hot off the press
Many thanks in advance for your thoughts.
Regards,
mroshaw

Im vodafone UK and have had no probs with using custom ROMs or unbranded ROMS (only warranty but then you could flash stock rom and use Triangle away)
Only differences I notice is some ROMs have better signal strength but I stay in Highlands so signal is not brilliant anyway lol as for OTA if you custom then OTA generally doesn't work but most devs are quick with updates or you could download and install update yourself pretty easily

Excellent, thank you for that! I guess my other option is to root and use one of the 'cleanup' Apps out there to remove all the Vodafone bloat. Not sure if I'm that keen to get Jelly Bean or if I should just de-bloat and wait for the OTA Vodafone update...

Hello everyone!! First of all, sorry if this has been posted already and please excuse me as I am completely new to the smartphone and android scene!
I do not own a SGSII yet but I am seeking to buy the white version of the phone, which is currently available at Bell. I'm planning to just buy out the phone itself without a contract because I will be going away to the UK in January for about 9 months. I am aware of the fact that Bell has its own firmware, giving it the name i9100m instead of i9100. So, I was wondering if I root and unlock the phone, will I be able to update the firmware and perform all the functions that a generic i9100 would and therefore be able to use the phone in the UK when I move there?
It might be a stupid question but I just thought I'd better be safe than sorry
Thanks in advance!
Yes, it won't be a problem

Yes it will work, whether you want to unlock it for rogers here in Canada or on a carrier in the UK, the process is the same. You can pretty much flash any rom you want, as rooting the bell phone pretty much breaks kies will to update. At least it did for me
Thanks guys! I thought that I had to go through a different process for unlocking and modifications, thanks again for clearing that up I will be on my way to purchase a SGSII very soon

First root the locked device with CF Root using Odin (see my signature item 1) than unlock the phone with Voodoo Sim unlock tool in Playstore, after it is unlocked flash this fix with cwm recovery from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1802951.
-Edit- It seems voodoo Sim unlock tool is temporarily removed from Playstore, keep an eye on it though, it will be back because it is beeing updated for newer firmwares.
For now call your provider and ask for the sim unlocking key.
You can also unlock your phone here http://www.sammobile.com/unlock/index.php?phone=I9300 , it costs 15 euro (creditcard or paypal) and you need to be rooted before the unlock.
Hi guys,
I've been searching about this subject but i could not find a anwser to all my questions. I own a Galaxy S III, and i see a lot off people using the UK Unbranded Official Rom, saying that it have more advantages. My phone is sim locked to vodafone, therefore it has a vodafone official rom. In the first place i would like to ask if flashing to the UK Unbranded rom gives me more advantages than the rom i'm using right know. And does flashing void the warranty ?
Thanks

No but it will remove Voda apps and branding .
. And does flashing void the warranty ?
Technically from Voda possible but not from Samsung .

So I was wondering if this is possible. My phone (running lollipop 5.1.1) is locked to a carrier but I was planing on flashing an unbranded 6.0.1 (from Italy). Marshmallow will eventually come to my country but I just can`t wait anymore. Will flashing this firmware brick anything ?? I am well aware that the phone will remain locked to my carrier, but is anything else going to be affected ? Anyone had a similar experience ? Your answers are really appreciated.:highfive:
Depends on the phone. Generally, if it is locked to a carrier then other firmwares will fail when trying to flash due to other differences such as the modem/baseband. There are exceptions, but pretty sure they are few and far between.

Thanks for your answer. It's galaxy a5 2016. Better not to touch anything. Don't want to mess is up within just 2 months after the purchase.
Hi all, I have a UK Vodafone branded S9 plus and I've had it network unlocked, but the handset has a couple of Vodafone apps cooked into it one of them I can disable and the other I can't but my real problem is as I'm on Three UK so I don't get WiFi calling!
My question is can I download the Three UK firmware and flash with Odin without rooting or tripping Knox and then will I still get the official software updates going forward?
I just don't wanna root this device like I do all the rest!!
Sorry if this had already been asked, I've done some Google searching but only found posts from a few years ago!!
Many thanks
Ps. All you developers keep up the excellent work, everybody on here appreciates it.
Ok guys I've found my answer is the below thread . Please delete post thanks admin.
