I have an ext2 partition on my sd card.
I just installed MINICM7 2.1.3.
After the installation, all the apps which i downloaded from market, were moved automatically to ext2 partition of my sd card.
The problem is that, i don't want to install my home launchers, market, and some other stuff, on ext2.
I don't know how to change the default install location, or moving my home launcher back to internal memory.
So, if someone has any knowledge on this, please help me.
I just want to know, how to move my apps back to internal memory from ext2 partition??
Sorry, for my bad English.
i dont know if this will help but when you go in
settings -> applications -> manage applications
you can click on the app and there will be a button "move to SD card" or "move to phone"
dont know if this is the case with you
and in
cyanogenMod settings->application
you can select the install location for new apps
hope i could help if not sorry and someone else will help you

Sorted it out the hard way - repartitioned with FAT and lost all my apps. Installed them quickly enough with Applanet App Market.

Hello XDA. A few months ago I partitioned my 2GB SD-card to use with a custom made 2.1 ROM I used to have and I have not changed this partitioning ever since, I've been using it with MiniCM and it works alright.
My question is: Could I or could I not partition it back to FAT so I don't have any ext without problems? Or do I need to reinstall MiniCM if I installed it with an ext partition?

One thing you need to check is if you have chosen 'internal memory' as the place to download applications that you may have downloaded/installed after installing CM1.In that case, choose the 'move to phone' option so that you don't have any apps stored on your ext partition. As long as you have stored apps either in the phone or external which is the FAT partition, there will be no problem at all in getting rid of the partition.Personally,I have never liked any of these ext partitions because I think they slow down the apps stored on them!
...do press the thanks button if this helps...........
Please clearly state which ROM are you going to flash, and the current partition details, partition(s) and size, filesystem ;-)
what is the ext2/ext3 partitions being used for ? are they only for setup new roms or for use while running the device?
i havent noticed any change with or without ext3 partition beside the low space left on the 2gb memory card...

ext partitions are required to install apps2sd or link2sd so that you can store downloaded applications there instead of clogging your phone memory. These are not required if your OS is Froyo and higher since there is a native apps2sd which helps you move applications to the main FAT portion off the sd card.

Hi all,
I had installed a long time the cyanogem mod mincm6, now in version 3.01, but now i have a problem.
When i go to manage application, for example "adobe reader" with 5.54MB, and click in button "move to sd-card" show me the message error "Failed to move application. There is not enough storage left".
But i have 1.4GB of the extend type ext2 partitioned.
And no way wich i have 1.4GB of the application.
Have any application that manager this partition ?
PS: I dont have application app2sd, i use the native app2sd of the cyanogem.
PS2: I find this in FAQ, but i have 8.33GB free in sd card, and no way that have used 1.4GB in application in ext 2 partition...
I CAN'T MOVE APPS TO SD, WHY?
Can't move apps to SD?? -> Format SD Card or delete hidden folders on SD Card
Make sure you have 'Allow application moving' checked in settings>cyanogenmod settings>application settings

I think that anyone responsee because have a many many post about this. Whell, i repartitioned (erased the ext partition, formated, and copied all files back to sdcard). I have now 9.73GB free in SDCARD.
But i have moved only 20MB and show me same message "Failed to move application. There is not enough storage left".
Have any file controlled for the app2sd, have any folder or something that causing this error ?
Ty a lot for any response.

Have you enabald the setting 4 it in settings_cyanogen mod set ings_application?
Sent from my U20i using XDA App
Yeah, setting is enabled in cyanogen....
link2sd will works without partitioning? If will, i will kick app2sd, hehehehe, but i nedd app2sd works... its more prudent

First its in the faq, anyway delete ext2 partition not needed.
Second delete hidden folders on sdcard with root explorer (make backup) or format enitrely. Reboot
Some apps will need to be reinstalled.

nop .... Nothing.... Same error.....
Guys,
I think that the app2sd is moving the files to a partition that he created or thought or whatever, Not have explanation to it move less than 20MB and already say that the disk is full (9.73GB free ) .
Well, am I computer programmer and i programer in C / C + + too, i am developing for Android, and digging in to the internet to see if he has C code that "program", to see where is the problem.
The App2sd is not saving in SD. This is so real, that I searched on the SD the app that I sent to SD , "adobe", and not finding this "adobe" in anywhere.
Maybe some configuration file for app2sd, or whatever ... I found that app2sd uses /sd-ext, but not found anything with the root explorer, and windows not show the internal memory.
Also not found the link it to SD, alias, where is it? Anyone know? or anyone know how the shortcuts from the drawer? So I thought misinformation.
Guys, sorry for the outburst, but I want to see if I fix this as soon as I have many applications, very heavy, and to almost no memory.
PS: I Founded some information..... the froyo a2sd save in a folder named .android_secure, that only be showed in windows or another OS, the rootexplorer can't find file sin this folder. Well, after delete again this folder and others, i moved exactly 24MB and, after, the error was showed once again. This folder is not a partition, its only a single folder in a ocean of bytes, rsssss

In another thread (don't remember which), someone mentioned that you have to start a program at least once before attempting to move apps to sd.

Perhaps there's a limit to how much space you can use on the sd-card and if so, maybe you can find answers/help in another thread to how to make more space available (devs forum i guess)
Ty again.... This is exactly what i need.... Know how much space i have in 9.73GB for app2sd and where i can configure this....
But i not found in anywhere in the internet... i stay searching....

I'm having the same problem. To help you analyze it, install Titanium Backup Root. When you open the app you see the space left in:
-system
-data
-app2sd sd
-sd
I never understood why there is a difference between "app2sd" and everything else on the sd. And I don't know how to make the "app2sd" part bigger.
Ty Samuel,
Well,
System ROM: 22.1 MB Free
Internal: 113 MB Free
SD Card: 10.2 GB Free
But i think that same that app2sd uses Internal memory for cache or Ram memory, that have around 20 MB free, have space to move one application of the 3MB...
In this case, i need how much app2sd uses to move application on SD card.
Its very very stranger...
At,
Moacir Jr.
Huh that's strange.
I uninstalled Titianium Backup a while ago, I only knew that in v2.5 I always noticed that difference.
Well in v3.03 I don't see the app2sd part anymore. I have the same parts as you.
I'll test a little bit more and I'll let you know when I discover why "sd" and "app2sd" is not the same.
Well,
Guys, since as not working for me the a2sd with cyanogen, have any troble if i install and use link2sd with cyanogen 3.03 ? I question why i used lin2sd wich android 2.1 from SE, and works just fine....
Question responded: Link2sd Works fine. If any1 have any problem with a2sd, and can't solve, simple, change to link2sd.

hey guys i am starting to loose it here
this is the situation, i have a sg2 and its rooted 2.3.6 stock rom.
now i have about 100 installed app, and I bought titanium back up and at one time I moved all user apps to sd card to clear some memory. That caused a big problem for me which manifested in that when I connect my phone to my computer or car stereo that once I unplug the usb cable or disconnect it from my computer the phone turns off and reboots. It drove me crazy I thought maybe its an app thats causing this, in the end i had to move all user apps to internal storage using titanium and the problem faded. I tried it both using USB debugging mode on and off.
So my question is whats the use of titanium or app2sd if it will cause this problem when i move apps, and how can i know which app will cause such a weird rebooting behavior, as I am not comfortable in having all user apps on my internal storage.
ANY help would be really appreciated. And an explanation to why such a behavior happens so that I will learn more about android systems

The explanation is simple. If you connect your phone to PC or whatever via USB and toggle "Mass Storage Mode", you dismount the SD Card from Android OS and mount it for the PC or where you've plugged the phone. This way Android OS can't access anything on the SD card, thus failing to load/run any app there.
To move them to SD, I will use the app options you can find in Settings > Applications > Manage Applications. If the application has the option to move to the SD, then is safe to move it without problems. If the application doesn't have that option and you move it, you could compromise the Android OS stability (depending on the app).
App2SD uses a separate partition on the SD to store the app, that way you can mount the external_sd partition without touching the App2SD partition.
Hope this explanation helped!
do u toggle mass storage ?
could also live wallpapers cause a problem with what I mentioned above.
I usually connect my phone via the following
wireless and network, then usb utilities then press connect to storage PC
So how can I fix my situation now, it all started when I used titanium to move user apps to sd card,
So if I use titantium to move back the apps to internal storage solve the problem completely and then follow you method of moving apps.
Another question is moving apps using titanium doing something different than what app2sd is doing?
App2SD doesn't do the same as Titanium Backup move to SD. App2SD creates a symbolic link so the system thinks the apps are being stored in internal memory but the link redirects them to the SD card.
You could try restoring your moved apps from Titanium Backup and then applying an App2SD script. Remember that to make App2SD work you will need 2 partitions on your SD card.
I am still confused as to How that works, I wish someone would write a detailed guide as many of us r newbie users. So do I have also to Partition my sd if I will move apps to sd using the move to sd option from the phone settings- manage applications.
It's so confusing the difference between moving apps using titanium and app2sd, also how can I partition the sd card.
Also could live wallpapers and widgets cause a USB connection mode instability
Hello guys, I installed the ROM to my phone that has a built-in A2SDGUI application so all installed application that I install are automatically moved to SD card. However, I would like to have some apps on my internal memory. Is it possible to move this application to my internal memory? I tried setting - applications but every app has an option move to SD card. So if I get it well the apps are on EXT partition of SD card but Android thinks that they are in internal memory, thats why it offers me to move them to SD card. But can I somehow to move them really to internal memory?
Thanks
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Absolutely
There is something on the Market called A2SDGUI which should work for you depending on the script that your ROM is using (compatible with just about every ROM I have used) and within that app there should be a button on the first tab that says "APPS ARE ON SD" under A2SD settings (it should also look like a lil LED thats GREEN on the button) TAP the button and it will say "ARE YOU SURE?" TAP "Yes" and...
Viola
You should see that "APPS ARE NOW ON INTERNAL STORAGE"
If you dont have enough mem on internal for all your apps thats another ball of wax altogether.
What I would do in this situation is go ahead and back up all your apps with TiBU and uninstall the not-so-critical apps and reinstall them later.
Hope I helped
Thanks! Button if I did!
Hi, thank you for your help.
I had already installed A2SDGUI app but I was thinking that maybe there is some way to move just some application back to internal memory. Not all of them. I installed many apps already so I cannot move all of them to the internal memory. Your way is also a possibilty but it seems to me a bit complicated for such a simple task like moving one app. Anyway, I guess there is no other option so thank you for your help! I will try it in that way.
I believe there is a way to move just the one app using something like terminal emulator. Try looking up all the A2SD scripts for terminal and see if you can push something to internal... I'm sure there's away
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
uninstall the a2sd gui and give the commenad "a2sd remove"
And move on to link2sd,its way better and moves only the apps you want to sd-ext,however you won't be able to move stock apps using it,though you can uninstall them using it
Hello all.
I have a question. Is possible to change regular app into private app? I'm using S2E to move apps to sd-ext. I want to move some apps to sd-ext but some i want to stay on internal. There is option to move Applications or Private Apps. I want to move games and less important apps to sd-ext. That could be moved as private apps. But i don't know if it is possible to change games into private app. I dont want to move important apps like Luncher, sms or system apps to sd-ext.
Some1 can help?
Hello Wojtys!
I believe that you can move almost everything from your internal memory to the sd-ext with the tool your using (me too )
If you want to move to your sd-ext partition, start S2E and touch "Menu" button; go to settings, enable "Advanced Mode" and restart. You will be able to move the rest of your aplications.
Also, in settings, applications, manage applications, you can choose if you want to move each app to "SD" or "Phone".
I hope I could help you!
Have a great day
Thank you for interesting. I know that but i dont want to move all apps. I want to move only several like games. In S2E is not optiont to move exact app only Applications or Private app. So i thought i could change games into private apps and move all of them buy check that option. I want to stay more important app like luncher, Titanum, system apps on internal and move only less important like a games. Dont want to move on sd only sd-ext. Have small capacity sd cuz only 2GB for now.
Look for Link2SD and use this instead of S2E.
It works similar to S2E but you can control what to move to sd-ext partition.
I was using S2E and lost all my apps during an upgrade. Restore through CWM would not get them back either.
I've tried the same with Link2SD and managed to restore my apps back after installing Link2SD first and then restoring the CWM bakcup.
Ppl pleas read carfully. I want to know, if i can to change regular app into private app. That's all. I know link2sd but i prefer s2e. So i ask again. Is possible to change regular app to private app? Move to another folder? I tried to move from data/app to data/private but that dont work.
According to this article: http://strazzere.com/blog/?tag=app-private - protected apps live there and protection only seems install destination. I'm pretty sure this is old (article from 2009). What is your problem with moving, are you sure you mounted as RW properly and changed permissions correctly?
I just tried to change direction. Didnt change permissions. When i install apps by android commander there is option to install as regular app or private app so i thought i could change direction of installed app. But dunno how. Looking for some advice/tutorial
