Hey all rooters,
I wanted to write this in the developer section of this ROM but the forum didn't let me since I had too few posts and was then regarded as a n00b. In a way I am but I have done a lot of searching and testing to get this ROM to run on my SGS2 but fails every time.
It gets stuck at the boot logo every time and here is what I have done after reading more then 55 pages of the official thread and also searched in it to find ppl with similar problem.
1. Installed XXKI3 stock via Odin. Rooted it with CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KI3-42-v4.2-CWM4. Booted into CWM Recovery. Flashed with Androidmeda_Hyperdroid-Amazing_Aquila-v1.0.0-signed.
Result: Stuck on boot
2. Since I saw ppl gone from LeoMar75 I restored a backup from that ROM and tried again to just flash from CWM Rec.
Result: Stuck on boot
3. One guy said he struggled with this for a week until he finally stock flashed XXKH3 to get the old boot loader.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18328417&highlight=stuck+on+boot#post18328417
I did the same just before I went to bed last night. Stock installed XXKH3 and rooted with CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KH3-v4.1-CWM4. Flashed with Androidmeda_Hyperdroid-Amazing_Aquila-v1.0.0-signed.
Result: Stuck on boot
Of course prior to flashing any kernel or firmware I do a full wipe.
Is there anyone out there that can help me with information what exactly I have to do to flash this ROM? Like what's the preferred baseband, kernel and build number prior to flash?
I have tried to follow the guides in the official thread but of course with no luck. I have flashed a lot of other ROMs with no problems (Cognition 1.5.1, VillainROM, CM7, LeoMar75 etc).
Finally I just restored a backup to just get it running again and right now I have:
Android version: 2.3.5
Baseband version: I9100XXKH3
Kernel version: [email protected]
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XXKI3
I really want to try this rom so please.......HELP!!!
I tried some new stuff.
I read also ppl saying to "format /dalvik" from CWM recovery. I have no such option under Mounts and Storage (CWM 4.0.1.4). I have:
format /cache
format /system
format /data
format /sdcard
format /emmc
I formatted cache and system while I was on CF-Root KH3 but it still wont start up. I allowed it to recreate the Dalvik for 20-25 minutes.
I also read that you don't need to remove the yellow triangle if you only flash the Theme and not a Surgeon. But I thought I would give that a try.
But the guide does not say which firmware version should be used for this to work. I tried with the KH3 version but after flashing the stock firmware the CWM app was gone hence I could not flash the zImage kernel to permanently remove the yellow triangle.
I am completely out of ideas now and I really want to give this ROM a go.
Please.......HELP!!!!!
Close this thread. I'm in now with new version.

so, I've had my SG2 for like a month now, rooted and all, but the problem is , i can't flash any other ROMs(but stock ROMs) or kernels (except for CF root, stock and siyah kernels ) on it via CMW... each time i tried to flash anything, i end up stuck at "galaxy s2 GT-I9100" boot-up logo.... I've tried flashing CM7 then i got the boot-loop ( even with double flash, or triple didn't work for me) and i can't get into CWM when i got the boot-loop....
someone please help me.. i read alotta threads and none of them got similar issue like mine...
i guess its true what they say : every galaxy s2 is different from the rest.
Hmm....must be something you're doing wrong. Nothing to do with Galaxy S2 being different.
Have you always followed the dev's instructions while flashing roms?
Wiping data, cache? Matching up the kernels and roms?
As far as I know, there hasn't been a single person who completely failed to install VillainROM on their SGS2.
I would advise you to give it a go.

What ROMs have you tried to flash?
If you're tring to flash AOSP ROms like CM7 or MIUI it's normal if you're not doing it with a comatible version of CWM. For example, cf root kernel installs a modified version of CWM on your device, which is not compatible with CM7. IF you want to flash CM7 first you have to flash codeworkx kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693, and then enter recovery (the new CWM installed with this kernel) to flash CM7.
Now if you can't flash samsung firmware based ROMs (villainROM, Leomar Revolution, Batista...), I don't know what it could be. I never had a problem flashing samsung firmware custom ROMs with the cf root CWM recovery.

If your phone has cf-root/kernal and cf cwm can you just flash over top codeworkx's kernel and do you have to re-root?

If you already have root then you won't loose it.

I used to use VR 3.0 but could only work with stock kernel or cf root kernel has never booted with the ROM's kernel..

My phone came with CM7, but i flashed it with rooted stock coz i wanted to have a feel of it... but now i'm done with it but i can't get any roms to work... so frustrating.
i literally have tried flashing ALL Roms (ligtnung, gingerbread,vr, cm7), during the 1st few days that i got my phone it worked with VR 2.5 and 3.0, even MIUI.. but after i flashed with some Asian stock ROM via odin... nothing would work through cmw anymore...
i seriously don't know what i did wrong...
btw, right now im using basebad ver: I9100XXXKI4, kernel: 2.6.35.7-siyah [email protected]#20, build number GINGERBREAD.ZSKI3.
I really don't know. YOu should try to go the closest possible to stock and try from there. DO a full wipe, wipe data, wipe system, everything and flash a stock ROM from your country and carrier (there is a thread from infratech where you can get carrier specific ROMS). THen connect your phone to kies (maybe yo get an oficial update) and then do everything from scratch, root, install CWM, etc...
That's what I'd do but I really don't now if it's the best option.
i have almost the same problem, but me i can flash any rom,but the problem is with the kernel my phone refuse to boot on any other kernel else than cf-root and the speedmod,it freezes in the kernel loading so i must turn it off and reflash via odin cf-root or speedmod to get it works again.

well, i'm gonna try that and see if it works, am also goin' try to see if downgrading to 2.3.4 or something would work too...
but please if you got any more ideas, just keep it coming..
thanks
Phew! NOW I HAVE CM7 RUNNING ON MY PHONE!!
I'm gonna try to explain how i fixed my issue, as clear and explanatory as i can..
lucky i didn't brick my phone during all this, because I tried so many things and none worked.I unsuccessfully tried downgrading to XWkI4, ZCKI4, and alot others via Odin... after flashing all i get is tons of error messages(on 3e recorvery) E: can't open/cache or E:failed blah bla bla to load /efs... i thought OMG! my phone is bricked! then i recalled reading somewhere that flashing the 3 tar (PDA,MODEM,CSC) files usually should work(maybe better than flashing a 1 tar file), so i found a 3 files xxKI3 rom, flashed it and BAM! it booted up this time without any error. so now i went ahead and rooted it since the tar files came unrooted, then went into CWM to flash cm7 ROM, flashed it twice and ofc i got stuck on boot logo.....i didn't panic much, i pulled out the battery, and restarted to CWM where i cleared cache/ dalvik/ and did wipe/factory reset, then i reflashed CM7 again (twice) and it worked!!!! YES, CM7 is fiannly working on my SG2!
thanks for everyone for helping, and i hope this can help others on the same boat as me..
I know it's been adressed many times in different ways, but the info I found yet is not clear so I need a little help! I am trying to install the latest stable Cyanogen mod, using Gingerbread 2.3.7.
I have a Galaxy SII from Bell that I rooted and unlocked when I got it last november. It came on 2.3.3 and I flashed an official 2.3.4 on it, mainly to improve the battery life (and it worked). I did that using Odin and it went well.
Now I try to install Cyanogen mod through ClockworkMod ROM manager, I download and launch the install from ROM manager but on restart the install fails because of the classic 3E recovery message that says the whole signature cannot be verified.
I was having doubts if my phone was even rooted, but since it is still unlocked and software like Titanium backup runs fine, I guess that confirms it!! I am not sure what route to take from here...
Right now here are the phone details...
GT-i9100 on 2.3.4, FW I9100XXKG2, Kernet 2.6.35.7-I9100XXKG2-CL375027 [email protected] #2
I'll appreciate any help!!!!!!

|Question = Q&A
Looks like you are yet another that has not followed the instructions and flashed a cwm and root kernel .
Root + CWM .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
OR are not following the instructions posted .
First time flashing CyanogenMod 7 to the Samsung Galaxy S II, or coming from another ROM?
Root the device and install ClockworkMod Recovery. Instructions are available here.
Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
Format the system, data & cache partitions of your device.
Perform a factory reset.
Flash CyanogenMod.
Clockwork mod recovery see

Thanks jje... The instructions did work! Tough I tought I had bricked my phone at one point, on the final restart it would get stuck at the Samsung logon screen, but I forced it back in recovery, re-flashed from the zip and then it booted in CyanogenMod!!!
I really appreciate your reply
Hello! Third day in the row I'm unsuccessfully trying to flash my SGS2 I9100 to Cyanogenmod 7.
Original firmware on my device:
Baseband version: I9100XXKI4
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWKI8
Android version: 2.3.5
OS: Windows x64
Steps I have performed:
1) Flashed CF-Root kernel to get root and CWM (4.0.0.2) using Odin 1.85
2) Performed nandroid backup
3) Downloaded Cyanogenmod 7 Nightly build 116 and gapps and put them to internal sdcard's root directory
4) Rebooted in recovery mode
5) Performed data/factory reset, cache partition and dalvik cache wipe
6) Installed zip from sdcard.
It says installation complete. No error messages. Device reboots.
And here goes the most interesting part - device goes to Samsung Galaxy S2 screen with yellow triangle and keeps rebooting.
It doesn't stuck on this screen and it never reaches Cyanogenmod screen. Just boot loop.
Notes:
-Problem with getting CM7 itself, not with restoring after just another boot loop.
-Searched on forum and google before creating thread. Apologize if I was inattentive but none of I have found helped!
-No Kies is running while flashing.
Have tried this many times with little variations but result is the same.
Tried different nightly builds and stable version as well. tried to flash to XWKK5 stock firmware first (3 files) with no result.
Please advise!
Thanks.
Did you follow the CM installation instructions ? As far I'm aware you have to flash it twice in a row, no wipe. I have a feeling this is your problem.

It doesn't let me do it twice. I cannot get access to recovery mode after rebooting. Menu+Volume up+Power combination leads to the same Samsung logo screen and boot loop.
Download mode is available so can restore device to it's first state.

Performing the same steps as in instructions and tutorial videos.
Maybe I'm still doing something wrong during flashing?
Also have tried with RomManager but result is the same.
Will be very grateful if somebody helps to resolve this issue cause it's the 4th day i'm trying and flashing counter is about 50!
I'm having the same issue. And i also dont have a solution.
Screw that!
I've left any efforts to flash CM7 and flashed CM9 instead!
Hi Everyone! just a rookie here in need of a bit of advice.
I'm a Galaxy S II I9100 owner and have my phone rooted and all setup with custom roms and been comfortable with flashing for some time now. My ROM of choice recently was Vanilla Rootbox and have to say the ROM has been fantastic with very few bugs to report. Last night i recieved the OTA update via Goo Manager for Vanilla Rootbox 3.4. I downloaded the full update over wifi and flashed with all wipes no worries. Next step was to flash the latest GAPPS and i figured there would be nothing wrong with flashing the GAPPS zip i had on my sd card that i had downloaded the last time i was notified of a GAPPS update via Goo manager as well. After flashing, wiping everything and rebooting again. My phone then booted up to a series of dialog boxes indicating that many google processes had stopped functioning. apps.google.com etc etc. A similar error has been reported in the Vanilla Rootbox thread by another user but i wasnt able to report this bug their either because my post count is too low to post in a development forum. So after seeing this error i rebooted into recovery to flash my last backup but CWM recovery came back with an error messaging stating it couldnt mount either ext or int sdcard. i did a factory reset which made no difference to the problem whatsoever. I then downloaded ODIN and the latest stock ICS Rom and flashed it via ODIN with no reported errors. My phone now boots through the optus boot animation and is stuck at the Galaxy S 2 screen with the flashing red and yellow animation over the S. If i turn off the phone with the power button, the phone turns off and immediately starts again and gets stuck at the flashing s screen. I've taken the battery sim and ext sd card out and put it all back in only for the problem to persist.
If anyone could help me there's a donation and my thanks in it!
Much appreciated
Nick
tried to re flash another stock ROM?
If so, tried factory reset the phone after the flash?
As long as you can get to DL mode, you are good to keep on flashing till you are up & running.
And then you got this
Remember to update your kies and make sure you close it all up before flashing with odin. If you are in 4.0.4 beware of the brick bug.

Kies has never been installed on this computer but i did use the usb drivers mentioned in the soft brick recovery guide you linked. I used some information from the guide to flash this stock rom but i couldnt flash or wipe the partition because im unsure where to get the .PIT file required? i cant get past the boot animation so no factory reset possible and yes i can still get into download mode!

wow wow, leave pit files alone for now, they are nasty.
What stock ROM did you flash? 4.0.4 or 4.0.3?
You can factory reset via recovery mode.
Try installing kies anyway, it can't never hurt. Just make sure all applications are closed before you re-flash.
here's jb leak, might help:

Right so i flashed I9100XWLP8 stock rom (4.0.3). Just then i flashed Siyah Kernel and attempted to use the factory reset function in recovery there, i get a message down the bottom mentioning that it can't mount my internal SD.

Hi all,
For backup purpose , I tried to upgrade to the latest Recovery_CWM_6.0.4.7_I9100.zip using Install Zip from an older CWM of my Samsung Galaxy S2.
And I'm in big trouble because after installing the clockworkmod recovery the phone won't boot anymore. It's stuck on "Galaxy SII - GT-I9100 - SAMSUNG" splash screen :crying:
The CWM works and gives this log:
I:Can't partition non mmcblk device: /devices/platform/dw_mmc//mmc_host/mmc0/mmc0
I can mount partition and accessed it from my pc.
I wiped cache and dalvic cache without more luck.
There is no vibration on boot either.
As my data aren't backup yet, I don't want to wip them out with some ROM. Did I miss something?
Any hint about what I should do to have the phone boot again would be greatly appreciated! :highfive:
Cheers
@GalaxyS2u did you flashed the right cwm/kernel for your rom since they are included in one boot.img? If you cannot flash an new rom anymore in the recovery or reflash the kernel /recovery then you need to flash an kernel/recovery in odin. Try an odin philz kernel if there is one else flash siyahkernel with odin.
And that partition thing is that even an valid partition ?
Backup your data first in recovery then try my things i suggested. I still think that the reason why it doesnt boot is because you flashed the wrong recovery/kernel.
Are you on stock btw? I suggest to try to flash philz kernel if you are on stock.
@wulsic
Thanks a lot for your hint :good:. That saves my precious! :victory:
I can manage to come back to my old CWM recovery with a flash of siyah with odin.
The new CWM works only with a new ROM and not with my old stock. With this experience, I am even able to upgrade to the KitKat version.
Viva this model and this community!
@GalaxyS2u glad to hear you figured it out I also had that problem when i flashed S2 first i soon found out that kernel/recovery were in one happy flashing?
