[Q] Help: Bootloop after upgrading CWM - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
For backup purpose , I tried to upgrade to the latest Recovery_CWM_6.0.4.7_I9100.zip using Install Zip from an older CWM of my Samsung Galaxy S2.
And I'm in big trouble because after installing the clockworkmod recovery the phone won't boot anymore. It's stuck on "Galaxy SII - GT-I9100 - SAMSUNG" splash screen :crying:
The CWM works and gives this log:
I:Can't partition non mmcblk device: /devices/platform/dw_mmc//mmc_host/mmc0/mmc0
I can mount partition and accessed it from my pc.
I wiped cache and dalvic cache without more luck.
There is no vibration on boot either.
As my data aren't backup yet, I don't want to wip them out with some ROM. Did I miss something?
Any hint about what I should do to have the phone boot again would be greatly appreciated! :highfive:
Cheers

@GalaxyS2u did you flashed the right cwm/kernel for your rom since they are included in one boot.img? If you cannot flash an new rom anymore in the recovery or reflash the kernel /recovery then you need to flash an kernel/recovery in odin. Try an odin philz kernel if there is one else flash siyahkernel with odin.
And that partition thing is that even an valid partition ?
Backup your data first in recovery then try my things i suggested. I still think that the reason why it doesnt boot is because you flashed the wrong recovery/kernel.
Are you on stock btw? I suggest to try to flash philz kernel if you are on stock.

@wulsic
Thanks a lot for your hint :good:. That saves my precious! :victory:
I can manage to come back to my old CWM recovery with a flash of siyah with odin.
The new CWM works only with a new ROM and not with my old stock. With this experience, I am even able to upgrade to the KitKat version.
Viva this model and this community!

@GalaxyS2u glad to hear you figured it out I also had that problem when i flashed S2 first i soon found out that kernel/recovery were in one happy flashing?

not-flash-able P7510, help

hi,
i got a P7510 working fine, flashed to AOKP Milestone4 4.0.3 (or 404) ... today i was trying to revert back to stock 3.x, but ODIN couldn't flash all the way, it always stuck somewhere when flashing system.img
i tried many ways, with or without PIT file, no luck ... tried on many different version of stock rom, same problem
it can still go download mode, it can still be flashed to CWM recovery ... but when flash stock rom, it stops ... anyway to put custom rom to the internal memory to flash thrugh recovery?
by the way, if i go CWM recovery, i can mount every partitions except /data ... bcoz the partition is broken? how can i repartition it?
thanks in advanced.
thnx for watching, it is solved by just using another pc ...
weird, but yup, it flashed all the to the end, and phone just reboot itself into setup screen ...

[Q] No Custom Rom Boots

Hi All,
Had my S3 for ever a year now all rooted succesffully and runnung wanamlite roms. all of a sudden it died - Samsung fixed it and my and sent it back however it was now on 4.3.
The problem I have now is that I am not able to boot any custom rom - I just get stuck at the samsung Galaxy GT-I9300 screen.,
Root Phone and install CWM
Check with Root Checker and its successful
installed all types of rom including Wanam 4.3 to no avail
All Stock roms including 4.1.4 work
I'm a bit stumped and any help would be appreciated - its as if my bootloader is locked
Thanks,
Jag
Die you try formatting everything including internal sdcard?
Do you have an international SIII without a simlock? Or was your SIII shipped with a simlock in the first place?
If you have a verzion SIII try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30274025&postcount=317
Ive done a clean rom install through philz cwm - im assuming this is the same as a clean install?
Im based in the uk so doubt I have a verizon model.
Thanks
You say any that presumes you have tried them all .
In recovery format sdcard system data cache boot to download mode flash stock rom or boot to recovery and flash your custom rom .
Really you should start by reading the faqs and guides first .
Hi,
Sorry for being so brief.
I have formatted sd card through mounts and storage and cache
Done a clean ROM wipe also.
Still no custom rom appears to boot - all stock roms flash fine through Odin. Restores of stock ROM are also working fine..
Then you are doing something wrong .
Start with a stock cwm rom .

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 weird recovery problems

Hi guys! I have been reading through the post and searching for possible solution to my Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 problem but I cant find any solutions. Here is the story:
I have flashed the GT-P1000 tab with clockworkmod version 6 (i am not sure the exact version) using Odin.
Now after flashing the recovery, I have successfully installed Cyanogenmod 11 (nightly build) and everything was successful and everything is great.
A friend of mine borrowed the tab and he put a pattern to lock the phone, instead of asking him what is the pattern I just decided to wipe the tab again to make a clean install. So what I did was I went to recovery and selected "format /system" which I shouldn't have, then after rebooting it is not booting up to Cyanogen anymore, so what i did was I just wiped everything (format /data, cache and factory reset)
Now this is the weird part, the devices has kept on booting up to clockwork recovery and it says the device is not yet rooted, it is asking me if it is ok to root it, I always selected yes
After another boot up, the clockwork recovery is now version 3.0.0.5??? it is really weird? I never installed any clockwork mod with a lower version... How did that happen?
Now whenever I try to install from sd card or restore it or mount it nothing happens, it just says:
E:Can't mount
E:unknown volume
E:unable process volume! skipping
I tried to flash the recovery again using Odin many times but still the clockwork mod is stuck in version 3.0.0.5.
Right now, I am not sure if my understanding of the entire system is correct:
1. Should I install a new recovery, if yes, how and why is it whenever I am installing it again it is not being installed, it gets stuck to version 3.0.0.5?
2. Are there any other recovery I should use and how should I install it? is it the same as using the Odin?
3. Is there a way to install the original recovery of this tab and then from there I will start over again.
@Battousai1
1. & 2. Find an Odin flashable recovery for p1000... Go to download mode and flash it with Odin...
After doing that you shouldn't have the problem anymore...
3. To install the original recovery find the stock rom which is again Odin flashable ... Flash it and you'll have the stock recovery...

Triple galaxy crashed, need help, flashing/custom rom?!

hi guys,
i have big problem with my galaxy s2. it is about four years old, fall down couple of times. i had no troubles the first three years. i read into odin and co and did made some upgrades and another mod. usb connector failed to connect to computer and car charging cable. and first time my telephone crashed and was in a boot screen loop. after my usb connection failed and i bought a new online (found one in china, somebody wrote this here in this forum) and put it in (might be the reason for the crashs? i do not know!)
so today my telephone crashed again (i charged it through cable and then i saw boot loop screen "android", although i had NeatROM- Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean installed, so normaly i would have seen "neat rom boot screen", but i saw"android" ... what the heck???) i really do not know what to do.
so far i can say, what i have installed.
PhilZ Build Version 5.15.9 - i9100
CWM Base Version: v6.0.3.7
i tried to install now CM nightly, but failed somehow...i have absolutely no idea what to do.
what i want?
i need help to get a new clean installation with full updates? i do not know if i have best kernel or whatever. appreciate any help. through CWM i am happy i can put my telephone in usb mount and saved my data. so anyone?
so i upgraded the kernel to
Philz Touch 6.48.4 and CWM 6.0.5.0
it was the newest version i could find for i9100. is this correct?
now i can choose a rom which i want? or does some not work with philz or s2?
fu** thi ****.....i wiped and erased cache everything and flashed Hazy Rom 5.02 + Pico Apps + Root and still boot loop....:crying:
i give up....this crap...i flashed now neatrom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-neatrom-lite-extralite-themed-aroma-t1569686
and again i have the "android" boot screen loop...instead of "neat rom" ...what to do???? i am desperate

Flash philz recovery and go in wipe data -> clean to install a new rom -> yes.
Then try to install a NeatRom.
/format preload is important
well i did this now again. installer works fine. no problems. after it reboots, but shows again boot screen "android"
blog.namran.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/android-boot2.jpg
and loop. i had neatrom before and i know there should be the neatrom bootscreen...
i flashed a stock rom with odin. and again boot loop. i did factory reset and it says "E: failed to mount /efs (invalid argument)"
might be the problem??? what now??
i see support for this old phone is pretty pretty low
looks like i have to buy a new one...fml

Try to flash again official firmware with odin.
If doesn't work
Try with repartition. Flash STOCK 2GB pit and kernel with odin. You have tutorial on xda. After repartition and following tutorial:
Then go in recovery and try to flash philz recovery or philz kernel zip. Then reboot again in than new philz recovery and try to format this:
wipe data -> clean to install new rom
Go in mount and storage -> /format sdcard0 -> default
After that go in Download mode and open the Odin and try to flash again firmware.
I don't have idea, try this.
okay, i will try this
repartition means everything will be deleted right? so even pictures and videos?
when i did normal flash, it never erased pictures (even though i do not have an external sd)

Yes. You will format everything(even internal storage), so that means you will have to make a backup of internal sdcard.
Read repartition tutorial on xda. You have them in s2 android development section.
looks like it did not help...i did repartition with 2GB stock and stock rom (PDA) with odin....i am still having bootloop and now in recovery i see again "E:failed to mount /efs (Invalid argument) ... crap
well, i just saw after mounting usb, that i still have all my data...what the hell? what did i do wrong? i followed the tutorial, clicked all checkboxes and chose the stock pit and pda?!?!?!?

SGS2 stuck on boot after attempt to enlarge system partition

[edit: re-posting in Friendly Q & A - posted as new thread by mistake. Apologies]
Hi guys
I'm stuck on a boot screen and would love some help!
I recently got handed down an old S2 - GT i9100 - things went well for a bit!
* rooted it
* flashed kernel and Clockwork Mod Recovery (used heimdall suite)
* flashed Cyanogen Mod 12.1 (Lollipop)
All worked perfectly. Great!
After a bit I wanted to increase the system partition's size (to accomodate newer G-apps package)
So decided to follow a guide to repartition (and to flash PhilZ Touch 5 recovery at the same time). I did these using Odin. But I think the guide may have been intended for use with a stock rom and recovery phone. So now the phone gets stuck at the boot screen (with yellow triangle). I can access both Download mode and Recovery. I tried using the Advanced options in PhilZ to partition internal sdcard to fix the partition table but no luck and I guess I maybe made things worse! I've tried to wipe/format (so as to factory reset) from PhilZ but there's an error now during formatting with mounting: /emmc/.android_secure and with mounting: /sdcard/.android_secure
it says:
"skipping formatting - data wipe complete"
I downloaded some stock roms too but I didn't really know which one to choose (of the Ireland ones - I've assumed the phone's Irish) because the phone came to me unlocked from any network and without network provider software.
I decided then I'd better get some good advice here before I fully brick the phone by tinkering!!
Your help would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks very much
Dan

Dont worry
Just start right from the beginning:
in Odin flash pitfile 1GB System_4GB Data and a gustavo kernel with CWM Recovery
reboot into CWM recovery and format according to instruction 10. in Thread (MOD)(GUIDE)(NOOB FRIENDLY) increas system partition size by @gsstudios
install in recovery latest cm 12.1 or cm13 (or other MM 6.0.1) plus open pico gapps and isorec-recovery twrp 3.0.2.0 by @arnab in one go
reboot system and you will be fine.
Note: it is important to flash pitfile which increases also system partition not only data partition
do not forget to format exactly according to the mentioned thread
do not forget to install isorec twrp recovery together with rom and gapps
in this thread on page 30 post 294 you get information where to find isorec recovery and gustavo kernel (CWM)
And please read this complete thread by @gsstudios carefully , it has all information you need
sorry just overlooked that your post has been moved (in case it will not reach you i will post there)
Thank you so much!
I will follow these steps tonight and then I'll post back how it went.
Really appreciate your help :good::good:
Cheers
mintydan
