Hi everyone.
I guess I should start by saying yes I do play minecraft with some of my free time. I play online with a few friends.
My question is can I somehow optimize the settings of any tether app to play minecraft online? I live in a college dorm and they do not allow me to use Hamachi at all so I cannot join my friends' server from the dorm connection. I want to use my phone for this but keep getting interruptions. I know I am running on a phone and it will not be flawless, but is there a way to optimize settings to run a little better. Or is there a specific tethering app that is more reliable on the photon?
I was thinking about setting up another line on my sprint plan and use my old Samsung Epic 4g as the tethering phone. Not paying for Sprint's overpriced and unnecessary tethering plan. My samsung epic 4g is already rooted and running ACS Bamboozle 1.1
I am running Homebase Photon 4.2 rooted.
Thanks in advance for reading this and any help would be appreciated.
I actually have played Minecraft on a car ride, it was fine. I don't use Hamachi though. It might be a signal issue though.

Depends on how much latency you get. On 4G here, latency is low enough that its possible to connect to my hosted minecraft server, but on sketch 3G connection, sometimes its unplayable with lots of ghosting and lag.
I do not have 4g in my area yet
Using speedtest.net mobile I am getting the following results:
Ping: 110-145ms
Download: 0.75-1.5 Mbps
Upload: 0.5-0.75 Mbps

I want to say bye, bye to TW internet, but don't know the best way to make My Razr 4G LTE internet to all PC's,Ps3 and my Xbox 360.
I put it here becouse the Razr forms are small vs this one and Is more about LTE any way.
Thanks
Not really
It's not really the solution you wanted, but assuming you are not trying to tether the world to your cell phone (which should then double nicely as a heater), why not just get a mobile hotspot and be done with it.
I hate my TWC wires (2 cables spanning 2 neighbors yards) and have pulled twice the speed on my Rezound than I am getting from TWC (although not at home, regrettably). I say this because I understand your frustration first hand; I just disagree with your proposed resolution.
looked into this a bit, my conclusion was that:
1) unless you have a fairly small network (ie just yourself), you're going to need to go the route of the mobile hotspot.
&
2) the mobile hotspot hardware currently available isn't reliable enough to trust as a dedicated home internet solution.
Don't be fooled I use mine for everything and I pay for unlimited mobile hotspot. Just can't use everything at onces.

I wouldnt recommend using your phone or any wireless solution for gaming, the ping is too high.

I get only maybe 20-30ms higher on my phone tether vs my FiOS.
If you are dead set on doing this, I would use your PC/Laptop as a network bridge. You should be able to connect the LAN cable to your PC and then into where your modem would plug into your router. But, you would have to setup your router first, or connect it via USB to setup since you wouldn't be able to use the provider software or the IP to connect in through that port. Just an idea, but like others said, reliability could probably be zero.
Let me tell you the "reliability" of my TW cable internet right now: It gos form 7-10DL to 3 and then even to under 1, 2-4 times A DAY. It go's out at times too, so I can't see it geting more bad then that.
P.S I am "dead set" on having home internet that has good up time and able to play 1080p video if needed.
Time Warner doesn't offer a package higher than 10mbps? Why not just get Fios or something? Have you even called TW? I had an issue like this a few years back (With a provider in GA I can't remember the name) where I wasn't getting the 25mbps I was paying for. They came out and tested my modem and it was dying. They replaced it, and it worked from then on out. It was even a modem I paid for myself, they gave me a new one and took the old one free of charge.
Koush posted that Tether is in the Android Market now.
I pay for 15DL and 1UL, But am only geting 6-10DL and .5UL. I think it's BS, but I can't poof that to them. I Have used all kinds of speed test and they all never hit more than 11-12DL and 1UL. LTE has been about the same on DL at home after the outges and DEC the 25th. ( It was geting 10-15DL and now its 4-10DL and 5-6UL.)
Now I am a bit mad at the big red, becuase on AT&T my speeds have been going up and Up and up. (I think AT&T Is about toput up LTE here soon)
LTE is extremelt cool, and will only get better. But as of right now, I wouldn't call it reliable enough to handle an entire house full of bandwidth-hungry devices.
My At&T U-Verse internet advertises up to 25mBps. This, to the average user, probably sounds like more than one would ever need. But what they don't tell you is that each TV (when its box is on) takes up to 6mBps of that bandwidth all by itself. So if you've got 2 HDTVs running in the house, and somebody gaming online, suddenly that internet speed ain't lookin' all that cutting-edge.
According to what I've gleaned from the small amount of research I've done, you need a solid 10mBps to stream 1080p HD content without bottlenecking. The top AT&T U-verse package I have can do it all day long, while also handling whatever else may be using bandwidth. I would worry about any plan below the top one though. Maybe if you only have one HDTV connection in the house.
I tried tethering off my phone when temp-root v2 came out, and I was impressed with the results. But I was also realistic about it. My tether speed tests came in at roughly 6-7mBps downloaded. Not bad in a pinch, but certainly nowhere near good enough to power a whole house. And certainly not good enough to stream HD.
I don't think the idea of a phone providing internet for the home far off, but we just aren't there yet. I'm thinking in 5-10 years.
If you want to use your phone as your home internet service, pm me. I've been using mine for my home for the last 4 years, cuz I don't have dsl. It's awesome, and I can help you get it up and running. I've averaged 40-50gb per month for the past 3 years. PM me.

I used 30Gb and I saw my speed in my home go down, but at work it would be fast as ever with 5 bars. My billing just started to day and my DL is now in the 20+ vs 5-7 DL before. I think I got my speeds lowered for useing 30gb. Any way TW sucks even more with that.
Hello Forum,
Not sure if this is a Amaze issue or just a Tmobile 4G issue.
It seems that whenever I want to stream a video one it lags to open up and when it does open up it always gets interupted and seems to have to load again and I get that clock symbol that it is clocking.
I check and even when I have full bars and 4G running full it still seems to happen. I live in the Miami area and supposedly it has good 4G coverage.
I even tested it next to my friend's phone who has Iphone (not even the 4s) on AT&T and we both streamed a video and his started automatically while mine took like 7-8 seconds to open and play.
If anyone has any input or advice, please let me know.
Cuz according to Tmobile commercials especially the ones run during Xmas with elves it should be lightning fast....
Thanks
Sounds like you're throttled..lol

No, not at all. I have the 5GB Plan and I never go over... Not even close...
I cant believe the little response..
Is anyone else having this problem??
Could people please comment either if your is super fast or having same problem I am having....
Thanks
I have the 5G plan also..I go over it once in awhile. And I have experienced throttle...from what you're describing sounds like a throttle (to me). Which APN are you using? Have you upgraded your SIM card?
You can also check how much data was used with that T-Mo app. MyAccount. I need to use that because I stream and download tons of crap a month..

try getting speedtest app from the market and run a few tests check your ping and speed, wireless net speeds vary greatly.
whats site are you streaming from and what is the quality
Seems to me that Splashtop might be a big drain on data plan. Our only high speed internet is a Verizon 4g Mifi. We had one with 10g data plan which we just got a few months ago. Last month we went through 90% of that in like10 days. We figured someone had hacked into our network, because our history on our old sprint air card only showed an average of like 8g/month. A few days ago we decided to make some other changes, dropped the hot spot on husbands Droid and bought a second Mifi with 10g/month plan. But we just went thought over 3g on that Mifi in just a few days. The only thing I can think of is that I was using Splashtop Remote to run my Mac from the couch... we were not streaming any video or downloading big system updates or anything along those lines that might account for the big drain....
What did you expect. Just about any remote desktop app is going to use up bandwidth.
To clarify what the guy above said.
Splashtop is streaming essentially a 720p video from your computer to your tablet (along with keyboard/mouse input and audio). If you are doing that over your 3g/4g thats a lot of data. Typical compressed 720p video is 300 to 500 mb per half hour. So for every hour you use splashtop you are going to use probably between .5gb and a 1gb depending on how well they compress it. At least in the HD versions. If you are using a standard edition splashtop at a low framerate (if you can even set that, i don't remember) then you could save a lot of data. Splashtop is really meant to be used on wifi networks rather than over the internet, but they give you the option to do internet because some people have great uncapped internet.
Hope this helps clear this up.
Thanks for the info jacobrv.. I might be missing something here. Sorry to be so clueless about this. But, I am doing this at home, connected to our router. The router gets the internet service from the Mifi...(ACtually, what I have is one router connected to the Mifi, and a second router downstairs connected to the Ethernet and setup as an access point.)_ In theory should Spashtop not be using any Bandwidth and basically just be using the LAN network...
Well, if both devices (computer and tablet) are on the local network then it "should" use that and not go out to the internet. One thing I would try is to remove your Google account from splashtop, if you put it in, and see if they still find each other. They use your Google account to match up your devices over the internet, so without it, it should only look at the local network. If that doesn't help, or if you never put in your Google info in the first place, then I don't know.
That's pretty much all I've got. I mean, another thing to try would be to turn off all internet devices (mifi's/modems/etc) and try then. If they can no longer see each other, then obviously they were using the internet. But then the question becomes, why can't they see each other on the local network?
Since most of us who use this forum are aware of AT&T's draconian policies regarding tethering, especially the one whereby they bump you from unlimited to crappy tethering plan policy, I'm going to ask those of us who are successfully tethering their Atrix with an unlimited data plan to help correct some information.
Basically AT&T is changing their plans, and with 3gb HSPA and 5gb LTE throttling the reality for us unlimited data plan users, I and others would like to know what this has wrought for our tethering capabilities.
Previously AT&T was monitoring our accounts to see if we were tethering, seeing if our phones were using ports and protocols for checking windows update for example(used to determine that your phone is tethered to a PC), or user agent strings, or other means of packet inspection. They were hitting people with the 45$ tethering plan left and right 12 months ago, but now, Verizon has just gotten the smackdown on their charge-for-tether practices, and I recall hearing that AT&T doesn't care about tethering anymore because they are putting most people on the unified data package where a whole set of devices use one pool of allotted bandwidth. Which would mean AT&T can ream those people with encouraged tethering.
But that leaves those of us with an unlimited plan......uninformed. Are they still doing the plan bump if they detect an unlimited user tethering? Furthermore, can they even detect the kind of tethering I've tried before, namely Atrix CM7 connected to HP touchpad CM9, I think built in tethering app. Can't they tell from the amount of hops, its one further on the Time to live?
Or do I have to use PDANET for the encryption?
Surely there must be someone out there using their unlimited with tethering who can chime in, maybe you can say what rom and tether app/built in your using/technique.
And if it's safe, this would make my job so much easier to tether with my laptop. And since that work is volunteer search and rescue flying, this could be invaluable information for me and my team.
Thanks, TL ; DR, AT&T sucks. But they have a fat data pipe and large network...
Grandfathered unlimited plan here. I'm running neutrino and tether to my iPad mostly and some pc tethering I used about 2 gigs in 3 days and so far so good. No scary text or anything.
Of course ymmv but that's been my experience with tethering so far.
Btw located in more rural southeast
Interesting
Thanks for the reply, I've tethered roughly 3-4 gb using netflix and some web browsing from Atrix to Touchpad, but that was last Thanksgiving, so I'm sure AT&T's network has changed since then. I guess I'll start off with trying to push 3gb+ using netflix on the touchpad, followed by browsing on the touchpad to see if any warning bells go off at AT&T. Because frankly having freedom to tether is a joy, I used to use my HTC Touch Pro to tether like mad on AT&T going through 5gb with a laptop easily. But that was 2.5 years ago
Anyone else get slammed?
I thought they just throttled you after you used more than 3gb+. Are they guys not getting throttled anymore?

I have tethered on my unlimited plan, using my Nintendo 3Ds, and my laptop which is running linux, so they probably wouldn't be able to detect the devices easily.

Hello! I'm currently on Verizon and have a contract that is about to expire and am seriously considering signing a contract with T-Mobile to get the HTC One with an Unlimited 4G data plan. I know that T-Mo is currently rolling out LTE and I'm in one of the coverage zones which would be really nice to pair with an unlimited 4G data plan. Anyways, I was wondering, since LTE isn't fully rolled out yet, how is the data speed on HSPA+ with the One? I consider myself a heavy user and do lots of Facebooking, Instagramming, YouTubing, and reading lots of articles and Redditting. My question(s) are:
How is the data speed with common/normal applications like the above mentioned?
Is streaming music smooth?
Do web pages load quickly?
Does facebook/instagram load quickly?
How fast do YouTube videos usually buffer? I'm currently on Verizon with 3G, and it usually takes more than a minute to load a piece of a high quality video, Its very painstakingly slow.
Is it comparable to LTE when loading HQ videos (almost instantaneous) or still take a few seconds to load?
First, T-Mobile does not have contracts anymore.
Second if you are coming from 3g you will see tremendous speed increase just on 4g alone. Can't give you details about how fast things load but they will be so much faster for sure.
Lte is spotty were ever it is being rolled out. I only get one or two bars at most and im in the suburbs of Chicago. But even with just few bars I get about 15mbps down and 11 mbps up for the most part.
Either way everything is much better than 3g.
