The good thing is Google is goog with the source release and usually pushes it within a day or two of the phones release.
Nexus S released and Jean-Baptiste pushed GB to AOSP the next day. He'll post up a notice of said push once its about to start at http://groups.google.com/group/android-building

You know, what got me into developing Android ROMS was I got sick and tired of waiting for other devs to produce things.
To the OP, Give it a try porting. If you really really want it, you'll accomplish it. Just need to be dedicated and put time into it.
Shouldn't actually be that bad to port the SDK even (without src) to something that is bootable.

I'm about to get into dev'n and hearing that come from you is sort of inspiring. When I look at certain things about dev'n it looks so intimidating, but I guess I need not to think and just do. Your rom was the first rom I flashed on the OG Evo after popping my root cherry. I really don't like sense but if its that simple to come up with that particular beauty that you create (warm), f#ck it I'm going in.

One of the best resources for ROM deving sense is in ApkTool, Smali and ApkManager threads
All you need is Notepad++, 7zip, KDIFF3 and a will to learn and experiment.
Start slow. Create a theme. That will teach you the apk structure.

I loveeeee sense 3.0 exponentially more than the original sense bull Ish that was on the og EVO but honestly I'm getting bored with all the half assed roms that are being cooked with chefs mixing AOSP and sense. This is NOT MEANT TO HAPPEN. so many glitches and bugs that it just pisses me off. Ya true AOSP roms are trickling out but really, nothing will ever trump cm7. Fastest most stable AOSP based ROM ever made. I would always try out other roms and always flashed back to cyanogenmod within a matter of minutes. And i know there are users out there that are with me on that. The only.other Rom i enjoyed on og EVO was fresh. Please if anyone knows any details on an eta for cm7 on the EVO 3D even an RC reply. Cyanogen works for Samsung, CyanogenMOD was started by cyanogen, but right now it's a ROM available for a bunch of different devices maintained by different developers.
the Evo 3D version is in the best hands possible (toastcfh)

To be completely honest, for me, trying out the "half assed" roms you mentioned are more fun than having one stable one.
It feels like I'm a part of something. We're trying out roms, helping the devs create something awesome! THAT feels better than just having one stable rom.

This is probably the most insulting thread to developers, themers, porters, and anyone else who is involved with the advancements of technology and expansion of choices that have already become available for the EVO 3D. You sir, are an asshole. If you're not satisfied go buy a different phone so no one over here has to put up with your *****ing.
EDIT: Considering the ROM I put out was a mix of Sense and AOSP from the get go, I definitely take this personally as well. You seem like quite the classy guy.

I was wondering the same thing.. part of what makes a device fun (for me) is the ability to satisfy my urge to tweak it, flash it, and all that crap.. I miss flashing new stuff every couple days..
Although, to be fair, this device is pretty damn slick out of the box..
still.. I'd love to have something to flash .. I'm not gonna root till CM7 is available and stable.. heh. (reminds me of zanderman and the Epic)

It will. Our phone is so similar to the Atrix that they will be able to help as well. I am not getting into the hype of the SGS2. Will be a great phone but the Photon is much more of a power house. We have only just got source. Once AOSP gets ported things will be lovely.

I agree with u. I'm sorry. I had an evo4g and the 3d just doesn't live up to its predecessor. The photon was just the better choice
I wish there was an online school, maybe run by the devs, to give guidance on how to create roms and kernels. I know there are forums with directions, but allot of it I just don't understand. Unless a dev takes you under his wing and explains it to you, it is very difficult to learn. Maybe some type of online chat and examples, and there would be a membership fee to attend. This way the devs would be compensated for their time. If there were say hundreds people enrolled, the cost would be minimal. Just thinking out loud. Wish I new more so I could help the community. I have already learned more about it than I ever thought I would, do to lack of development with some of the phones I have chosen. Either way, I'm keeping this Mopho!

Thanks Shabby, the one thing I miss from my Epic is the SFR Rom, still have the ACS updater app (though nothing to download lol). And Bricky, I am totally with you. I don't consider myself stupid (heck I run a QA group), and have been working with MS products for longer than I care to admit, and I even bought the
"Android for beginners", which is ok, but there is alot to consume, it would be great to have a mentor. I'd love to help out, hell I'd be happy to test ROM's, the more knowledge the better.

The touchpad is only a tablet. Does it have to worry about data connectivity with 3g and 4g, Nope. It also does not have to worry phone operation..sending and received calls and text. All these require radios that must he written. It does not also have 3d video. Poeple forget the phone is s hell more complex then a tablet.

I've also read that while CM7 might boot up it is nowhere close to RC status on the touchpad.

@life64x - Good points. Although from what I have heard, 3d is not the problem.
@r0cky0790 - I had a point. HTC crippled development. A point that has probably be made before. I didn't feel like it was a rant. A minor complaint, but I guess it is hard to tell the difference when it's posted on the internets. Most people assume screaming on the internets, but that wasn't the tone I intended. But I guess at this point in my defense of my OP, I guess it has grown to rant status.
@mattykinsx- I know it's complicated, and it shouldn't be made more complicated by broken code. I think we need to continue pressure on HTC. Sometimes complaining has a point, which I don't think is terrible.
@SolsticeZero - Yes, I have a 3d. I upgraded from a hero. My wife had the 4g. This is why I am disappointed in HTC for going the wrong way in supporting development. This whole site used to just be HTC devices.
@clamknuckle - I envy those that have the time and talents to dev. I have a 10 week old kid and am a high school teacher, and after this childfree weekend, I will go back into my hole and not have the time or energy to even post on XDA for another 6 months.
@daneurysm - Let me reiterate: My beef is not with Cyanogen, it is with HTC's broken source code. We need to pressure HTC on this.

I would say that the mods are only a quarter of the problem. You have stalking ass users demanding what these devs do for free for us, as if it's owed to them just because they created an account.

This. But, how can you possibly control the "perception" of XDA? I don't think you can...
For example, I guess Shift from TeamWin was chosen by toastcfh to give thread support for his CM7 Alpha drop.
Fine. Bring it. Offer thread support.
That thread blew up, of course, and every user on there was basically GUSHING thanks and love and yadayada for the actual release.

I completely agree Mazook. I have seen nothing out of line yet (atleast I haven't witnessed it). All I've seen is praise and thank you, etc. For him to tweet some **** like that is beyond f'ed up. I don't understand. I just can't get the mindset.

I just returned his retweet to him, basically with a big "wtf" wrapped around it. I'd never bring it up in toast's thread, but he needs to be held accountable for that kind of blanket-statement trash if he's gonna spew it to the whole planet.

i agree with both of you.. it always seemed like you could tell when a new crop of users got on, because ignorant demands would increase, but lately it seemed as if it was 10 fold, and some of the users that have been faithful to the community and helped out all along got caught in the crossfire, which is unfortunate.. most of the people that i have seen complain about mods are people who deserve to be moderated, people who barely have any posts who just troll, flame and are generally annoying to everyone.. i have seen some of the faithful complain but those are the ones that got caught in the crossfire, and deserve to complain..
i also agree with the derogatory remarks that have been made about XDA in general, i have seen other devs make similar comments.. now dont get me wrong, i get it.. i totally understand dealing with high maintenance douchebags who demand demand demand, but do absolutely nothing in return.. and then flame because the battery doesnt look right.. but you will have to deal with that everywhere in life, its up to us to make the community better, thats why its a community.. rootzwiki will be just as bad one day when it becomes as big as XDA, because all the ignorance will just go there.. it happens..

I just went to toasts thread and seen he had recently posted and was still online, but like you said, it doesn't belong in the thread, so I didn't post anything. If I sent him a pm I'm sure he wouldn't reply or I would just be another "ungrateful prick" complaining about something.

I was just there too and it took everything in my power not to ask him something like "This build of CM7 changed my XDA username to "ungrateful prick"..... any ideas why, @SHlFT???? ..."

Hi everyone, as a GSM 3D owner, I am really frustrated at this point as there is no ICS release, and dont think there will be anytime soon and here's why: The sensation, vivid/velocity/raider and soon the rezound are the only htc phones that are getting their official OTA, BUT if you do your research, all these phones have had SEVERAL leaks before arriving to the point of getting an OTA. On the other hand we have NOTHING!!! That DEFINITELY means htc has not even started on the 3D yet (as we have NO leaks), and we will most likely get the update sometime in Q3 for sure. Heck, even the galaxy Note got a leak today! It has become somewhat of a trend that ICS must be leaked at least 1 month prior to the official OTA release (tell me 1 phone that didnt!!)
So my request to the devs: please somehow get the camera and 3D working on ICS roms no matter how long it takes (because I know it is possible, just difficult). If we had not waited so long for the official release we would've had a fully functional ICS ROM by now, so if we keep waiting, God knows how long we will be left in the dark for. Please just somehow get those things to work and the community will remember you forever!!!

Um yes they can, im not a dev but it has to do something with rewriting the camera libs, which is appatently hard work but its definitely possible. How do you think the desire got the camera working without any gingerbread release back in the day!?

Well i dont understand why everyone takes a request to a dev so seriously, its only a REQUEST not an obligation, i do it to give them some encouragement to do something that only they can, bcz at the end of the day they can do whatever they want, but it'd be nice if they devoted some time to fulfilling our requests. A president of a country doesnt get paid much, but that does not mean he shouldnt listen to the public, in this case the devs are the leaders and we are the people, so they are our only chance of fulfilling something and i think they should listen to the community because with great power comes responsibility (superman never got paid anything)! Lol sry abt my cheesy examples but its true!

Actually it just shows that you're an unhelpful noob . And gingerbread camera on desire wouldn't have been that hard, I imagine it was a tweaked froyo camera or from another adreno 200 powered device, same way they got the HD2 camera working.

You're KINDA right, the worst mistake i made was trying ICS on my 3D, ever since then my experience with GB has not been the same, it feels so sluggish and incomplete compared to ICS... Hope we get ics before I (if and when) hopefully get a one x (which is at least 6 months away), otherwise, i may have to reconsider buying an htc phone ever again.
