By when can we expect ICS ROMS to pop up?? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So after the announcement and the release of the system dump today,by when can we expect full fledged and stable ICS ROMS to come out. Like say CM9

Properly working ROMS will only show up when Google releases the source code. If they do what they did with Honeycomb, and don't release it, then we will never get an AOSP ROM.
Anyone heard whether ICS will be open source or not?

from what ive read on engadget and Android and Me they will release the source code

honeycomb wasn't released due to the quality of the source code. i am 100% sure they won't use this excuse for ICS, so yes, there will be an AOSP code drop at some point, my guess is about 2-3 months.

Honeycomb source wasn't released because they didn't want people porting it to phones. I think big red will release the source for both in december

The CM Team has something to say on the topic:

1.70.605.0 ????

I have been using 1.70.605.0 ota rooted deodexed and busybox so that my thunderbolt doesnt reboot anymore. I know that we are waiting for source code so that the devs can write some new kernels for this update. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to overclock my thunderbolt why I wait.
Unfortunately not. Hopefully they'll release the source code soon.

Yes! Hopefully soon
I think froyo is pretty dead. There's been 2 solid releases of it and nobody has really touched it. We have 2 sense kernel devs and one builds his to follow the other's source tree. Not to mention none of them are current and functional with the latest gingerbread leak. The bulk of their work is now AOSP. Unless you're up to stripping Ziggy kernels from synergy or Chingy ROMs, you're kinda screwed. Sorry, but I just don't see a froyo source release as something any dev currently is going to embrace.
gingerbread
So are most people using gingerbread? Also, how stable is gingerbread compaired to froyo?

[Q] ICS on touchpad?

It's sad that I feel the need to say this... I've searched already or I wouldn't be asking it..
I'm assuming that whenever "they" get the ICS source that it'll eventually be ported to the TP... And was assuming that it'll be much easier porting ICS to the TP since there will already be a GB port and much of it will be "re-usable"? Or is it like starting from scratch all over again?..
Once the source code of ICS is posted the Cyanogen (core?) team will work on making CM8 which will be the ICS version of CM and then the CM-Touchpad team will make it compatible with the Touchpad using the same (if possible) drivers and techniques to do the dual boot with WebOS.

yeah, as soon as source is out I think it'll be be hitting this device hard
All I can say is I cannot wait for the source code to be released. I'm way impatient now, thanks to the new teaser dual boot video and chompers android "port".

[DISCUSSION] Android 4.0 for LG Optimus One

Hi.
Today Android 4.0 was released by Google.
Some interesting features were added.
I'm wondering if our LG Optimus One will get unofficial update (eg. mik_os CyanogenMod) or official (very unlikely).
What do you think?
Mmmm i don't believe

Dont open a new thread... Yea, Cyanogen Team will wait for the ICS Source to come in first then it will be official and mik_os might port it for us... And now ciaox, lurohirp is planning to do vanilla aosp ics sooner or later with the sdk port to optimus one...

Jean-Baptiste Queru Ver perfil Traducir al Español Más opciones 14 nov, 16:59 Hi! We just released a bit of code we thought this group might be interested in. Over at our Android Open-Source Project git servers, the source code for Android version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is now available. Here's how to get it:Follow the instructions at http://source.android.com/source/downloading.htmlCheck out the 'ics-release' branch:repo init -u https://android.googlesource.com/platform/manifest -b android-4.0.1_r1 That's it! However since this is a large push, please be aware that it will take some time to complete. If you sync before it's done, you'll get an incomplete copy that you won't be able to use, so please wait for us to give the all-clear before you sync. This is actually the source code for version 4.0.1 of Android, which is the specific version that will ship on the Galaxy Nexus, the first Android 4.0 device. In the source tree, you will find a device build target named "full_maguro" that you can use to build a system image for Galaxy Nexus. Build configurations for other devices will come later. Unfortunately we still don't have our Gerrit code review servers back online. That remains our top priority though, and we hope to have them back soon. This release includes the full history of the Android source code tree, which naturally includes all the source code for the Honeycomb releases. However, since Honeycomb was a little incomplete, we want everyone to focus on Ice Cream Sandwich. So, we haven't created any tags that correspond to the Honeycomb releases (even though the changes are present in the history.)
JBQ, on behalf of the AOSP team. --Jean-Baptiste M. "JBQ" Queru Software Engineer, Android Open-Source Project, Google.

Hope our phone will have a taste of ICS before Christmas. More likely from Unofficial source.
Does our phone has enough system space for this ROM?
you mean internal memory?
Heee, we arent manufacturers - we build only a rom not a cloud, so no panic

Official CM9 Nighly Builds?

It looks like official CM9 builds are starting to come out again. . .
I tried to search for a definitive answer and came up empty. I know that we are not supposed to ask "when?" but I just wanted to confirm "IF" the HP Touchpad will be getting official CM9 Nightly builds.
I apologize if I should know this. . . I just couldn't find a definitive answer.
I am enjoying CM9 Alpha 2 right now. . . You devs Rock!!!

What are different between CM9 Alpha 2 ROM and kings ROM, it is come from different development group of people ?

a kang, means stolen code. So it's a rom based on cm9 with tweaks. That's the short version.

If we are using kang rom it is safe ?
Kang doesn't mean stolen. You can't steal open source code...
Kang means it was compiled by someone that isn't part of the official team/the person who made the code & isn't officially supported. So like when people say "Self-Kang" it means that they made the code themselves, but it's not officially supported by CM.

KANG does mean stolen code m8, it's a very old term, and it's not something specific to android or open source software.
I'll try to find a article for you.

This is from another forum:
This is the definition you would look for in Wikipedia Kang - A term used for stealing others intellectual property and claiming it as your own. (ie. When a developer uses another developer's work, and then publishes the end product as their own.)
Like building a cyanogen rom from source and making small edits and redistributing it. Not exactly as bad as it sounds like the definition suggests... sometimes, it it.

Or...why not just look here on XDA, in their WIKI, and see how XDA defines it?

As mentioned, you can't kang open source'd code.
You can, however, fail to attribute that code, and that's generally what kang'd refers to now.
[nothing personal, just incorrectly using kanged is starting to pet peeve me almost to the point of the rampant incorrect usage of bricked. using 'vector' by a layman (ie, non military tactician or graphic designer) to make things sound more sophisticated is a close 3rd]

[Q] Now that Samsung has released source, is it possible to release CM on the phones?

I know there was a problem w/the original EPIC where code wasn't released, and therefore there was no CM7 or CM9 on the phone for quite a while.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1753057
However, now that source has been released, is it safe to say that there will be timely releases of CM9/CM10 on the phone?

Thread cleaned, keep it together.
well if the Samsung Charge was any indicator, source did not include the RIL code because it is Samsung proprietary, not Android specific, and they never have released the RIL source to anyone for that phone....
we have to hope the sheer popularity of this phone will persuade Samsung to release the RIL source otherwise it is a very long laborious journey ahead to get AOSP or any CM builds working
usually they can get everything working except data and voice and SMS....sometimes the camera is a major PITA....the Samsung Fascinate was at that status for months and then one day someone fixed the RIL and it suddenly got mainlined
the short answer to the OP is no, the source code release by itself doesn't make CM possible
