Vlingo is an Internet-based application so you need to use a WiFi connection or a data plan.

Hi folks! I have a question. My friend has htc hero with latest official rom (dunno what it is). He is a traveler and wants gps to work without using data connection, bcs it's extremely expensive on his operator. He said, that in android 1.6 there was pure gps and it needn't to use data connection to receive location. If he uses any app like gps status or nav app without data connection, gps doesn't receive location. I have samsung device and there is an app, called AngryGPS, there i can change everything about gps settings, including SUPL server and how gps will work (MSBASED or STANDALONE). How can i change settings on his hero? Maybe by porting this app on hero? Rooting is not a problem, i can make it, if it's necessary.
added: if i turn off receiving location from wireless networks in android settings, it not helps
P.S.: Sorry for my poor english

Use iGo for android...it's easy to use and only gps is req...no data connection, i used it a time ago and was very pleased with it...the menu is a little laggy put don't worry because it works well on the phone, without having any problems.
Keep me updated if you got the problem solved
Stefan
he said, that he uses Maverick and don't want to change it, he wants to change system settings to use gps in standalone mode

there are data & gps apps...so if you don't use a data connection you can't download content...that's why i recommend iGO for android
Stefan
he needs not to download content, he needs to connect to GPS without enabling data connection. Anyway, problem solved by installing patched version of angrygps and editing operation mode of gps module

that why i recommended iGO, it uses the maps preloaded on the sd card...
you completely ignore my messages? or my english is SO bad?
HIS GPS WON'T CONNECT WITHOUT DATA CONNECTION IS UP! Not the freaking nav application! Maverick uses preloaded maps too, GPS Status&Toolbox doesn't use maps at all, Turbo GPS doesn't use maps, every program that uses GPS to receive location or establishing connection with sattelites DOESN'T receive location or establish connection without data connection!
Now the problem is clear?
As i told, problem is solved
And iGO is total ****

hi...i usually connect my lg optimus 2x to PC with USB and use computer's internet connection (reverse USB teethering). but i want to know if its possible to force telephone that it thinks that it is connected to wi-fi, while using 3g data connection. i want use that especially when games want to download data over the wifi...
If your device is rooted, you could get a wireless hotspot app from the market, start the hotspot on your phone, then connect to it (connect your device to itself ).
I don't think you can connect to your own hotspot.
Accidentally sent from my Google Nexus S using XDA Premium
tried but its not working..i think that androids dont support wifi multitasking like iphones do,so they cant receiving and teethering connection at the same time..

iphone doesnt support wifi tether lol...
you can just grad a wifi hotspot phone and load your sim in. share the network to your device and enjoy...
it is quite annoying when it doesnt let me use my data for gameloft game data download too.

The iPhone does support wifi tethering (not trying to defend it though ).

Actually you can. I've said that before to other people who wanted to download gameloft data and for some other purposes which require wifi, and it worked.
I want to do this too.... but the Mobile Hotspot app on my phone turns off WiFi if it is one, and if I turn on Wifi while Mobile Hotpsot is on, it disables the Hotspot.
Any other solution ? An app maybe ? A tweak ?
what wifi hotspot app was used?.. and to the OP, how did you reverse tether via usb?

You can use this to reverse tether: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371345.
On my desire you can have activated only wirelles or only hotspot, i think the same wirelles adapter is used for it, so it wouldnt be possible.
Sent from my Desire - sorry if it isnt correct english, my english isnt perfect

How? I've been searching for a workaround to this for some time now.
Please tell me how...
I have a rooted Bionic, Eclipse ICS 4.0.4. I use FoxFi Full version for my hotspot. I need my phone to connect to the mobile hotspot it's currently transmitting. (I think that's what I need)
Why? I want an advanced ability to monitor who is using my mobile hotspot, using DroidSheep to monitor what they're using the connection for. Trouble is, DroidSheep (And al similar programs) only work if the phone (with the app) is actually connected to the wifi network. It won't work if it's the one transmitting the signal.

I would like to know the same thing. Which tether on the market doesn't shut down WiFi when it's cut on?

You just have one wifi Modul it can be a hot spot or it can be connected to a Router.
Both together isn't possible.
Else you could also use it as wifi repeater

Hi,
I am looking how to prevent an application to connect to internet either on wifi or on data network mode.
My problem is that some applications are connecting, in background, to internet and I would like to restrict it.
For example in windows, you have a firewall and you can allow or prevent each program to connect to internet.
Thanks.
Daniel

Hi there! I have a tablet with a 3g dongle and i want to turn it into a hotspot for my phone. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a built in hotspot function. Are there any apps that can turn it into a mobile hotspot?

hello i think its impossible to use the viber without internet/wifi connection? hacked or something else..
Viber requires a strong, stable internet connection (3G, 4G and/or Wi-Fi) in order to run.
