Wi-Fi Autoconnect - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

All I have been using Longhorn 1.1 for about a week and since yesterday my wifi won't auto connect and turns off when the phone sleeps, despite it being set to never sleep. I have tried forgetting the network, and reconnecting. I have used my nandroid backup and nothing seems to help.
Has anyone got any suggestions of a fix?

Wipe everything, flash it again and do a factory reset before boot and see if you have the problem with a fresh ROM install, if not then you know it has to be one of your apps causing you problems

Ok will try thank.you

Please help!!! Wireless problem :-(

Hello everyone... I have an issue with my wireless.
I'm currently on VegaN 7 stable with pershoot latest kernel.
For some reason, I completely lost the ability to see any wifi networks...it just says scanning and never sees anything.
I did a wipe and fresh install of the rom/kernel with the same results.
What can I do next? Thatnks!!

Try turning off wifi then turning it back on. Sometimes multiple times. Sometimes turning airplane on an doff kick starts it also. Mine does this every once in a while and that usually fixes it.

SOD problems starting from WIFI

Hey all!
Just started this thread to explain something about SOD and phone SHUT DOWNS by itself.
I was NEVER BEFORE have these problems, like SOD or SHUT DOWN phone by itself, till now. I sure that it was related to one WIFI program, what I downloaded yesterday(Unlock With Wifi). Today I activated the app and I have phone SHUT DOWN by itself, like 3 times in hour. If I disabled the app, I solved the problem(for now I already UNINSTALLED that app).
Now I sure, that our SOD and S.DOWN problem not hardware problem, but SOFTWARE related problem.
I want to say you all, who have SOD or S.D...., look what app you have installed(what can use wifi) or in phone settings and try several times to configure your wifi(one of most: dont but your wifi to sleep, when screen is OFF), untill you solve you problem.
If you too know some examples, from you experience, then share with us here!
THX for reading!
Hope it will HELP someone.

I'll try if turning off wifi will help. It should if this is wifi related problem.

Hey!
Like I sayed, just try different things with WIFI settings. I think turning OFF wifi, will solve the problem, until you turning it back(when you have the problems). We will see, dose it solve the problem, if you turn OFF WIFI.
CHEERS!
You got the nail on spot. I was also in the same impression with SOD. Till now I'm not able to Figure out the app which cause this. But yes this is software issue rather than hardware. I also read else where that the SOD cause because of the lower voltage supplied to processor during sleep with which its not able to get itself up from sleep. Not sure...
I have a app that turns the wifi off when I lock the screen (dont remember which one of my apps!) so I havent experience it for awhile.
Sleep as an droid has a feature that shuts down the sleep tracker at a certain procentage (I chose 20%), instead of shutting the sleep tracker down, it shuts down the whole phone. Both of the times that i got SOD my phone had 20% left of its battery, so it was pretty obvious what caused it.
Sleep bot tracker is a great app if you forget to shut down your wi-fi before going to bed. Make it a habit to track your sleeping time, in the same time ull make it a habit to turn you wifi off. It has a built in function that shuts off the wifi when u start tracking your sleeping time. This app does not bring you and SOD.
What, but the general advise to sod had always been to check wifi always on...

I noticed that this problem is only for those who are using the older firmwares including XXKPH or the ROMs whose base are 2.3.4 KPH.
Haven't encountered this problem in the Samsung July 2011 release of 2.3.3 (KPN). But I guess, this is a good post for those who are still experiencing this.
For now, I'm just happy with KPN (that's why I'm not as active before here in the forums).
Before I flashed to 2.3.4 KPH, my Wifi worked flawlessly.
Now my Wifi reception is extremely limited (I have to be in direct line of sight to the router within 2 meters to be able to get a stable connection)
and
I get those dreaded SoDs (sleep of deaths).
My question:
Is it possible to flash only the modem file of 2.3.3 to try whether that works?
If yes, will my current system be wiped if I only flash the modem file?

If you don't use the video chat in Google Talk, then why not just flash 2.3.3 KPN?
The only new feature in 2.3.4 is the video chat in Google talk. Most bug fixes are now in the July 2011 release of 2.3.3 KPN.
Yes, I'm contemplating to do that.
But as I've spent a bit over a weeks time to set my system up, I would like to know if it's possible to just flash the modem without touching the already working system.
edit: I see KPN is a single file flash, so I won't be able to flash only the modem. Ok, backup and downgrade it is.
I've only experienced SOD once... But I always have wifi off. Just on when I'm going to use it. Afterwards I turn it off and good bye SOD issue

Hey!
Dont know exactly, but I think that you can restore your system settings and other system things, with TITANIUM BACKUP. Backup the ALL SYSTEM DATA in batch menu. Go to TITANIUM BACKUP>Menu>batch. Pick: backup all system data and RUN THE BATCH. After that, flash you ROM(what ever you want) and try to restore all system settings from TITANIUM B.. Ofcourse, what ever happens, I suggesting you do NANDROID BACKUP from CWM recovery, before you start anything. If nothing works(or **** happens), you can RESTORE ALL FROM NANDROID BACKUP.

Update: I flashed 2.3.3 KPN and did a factory reset.
The SOD problems are gone now,
but
the bad wifi reception still remains. (Connection to router only works within an extremely close range)
If I cannot find a fix for this problem I might try out a froyo firmware.
Did anybody have a similar problem? Would really appreciate some hints.

Hey!
I think its not ROM-s problem. Try look your Router settings and phone settings. I think something is not right in PHONE or ROUTER settings. Not seen this kinde of problem YET, with ANY ROM. Try to look.
One question: dose you not DROP you phone or similar? I seen little problems can happen, even nothing SERIOUS was done(like speaker, wifi and other HARDWARE problems).

[Solved] Wifi crashes every 10-15 sec

My wifi was alright with original 2.3.3 gingerbread. But after flashing to 4.0.2.A.0.42 it started to crash and reconnect every 10-15 sec. I thought that problem is with my router, tried to reset it, but the same problem.Connected with my Huawei u8650 and it worked fine. So i understood, that problem is with phones wifi. I searched the interned and all xda forum, but find nothing. So i ask for help.
Thanks.
Ensure you clear cache dalvik cache, data and full reset before flashing.
Suggest you wipe all user data, caches, dalvik indeed and then see if it happens again.
If it repeats then SE firmwares do have a history of having wifi problems, especially the 2.3.3 ones of 3.x.x..
Is there an echo on here?
+ Wifi fine on 2.3.4... OP is on .42 so no issue.
Could be wifi scan intervale

NO - You don't need to do that. WiFi will reconnect and stay connected perfectly well if setting is sleep with screen off. Or bye-bye battery life.
Their problems are more likely due to the way they updated their firmware. i.e. without a FULL reset and clearing data/cache (both caches). Or coming from a custom ROM or kernel. Or sh*te router.

i tried that too, but as i said, it also happens with the screen on, like talking via gTalk and the wifi disconnects and reconnects, when i bought the phone was in 2.3.3 and wifi worked great, even better than the iPod,so, this issue appeared with the .42 (2.3.4) update.
just installed the .62 update, i still have the Wifi Issues =/!
Just updated to .62 firmware, and i'm still having the wifi issue =/

Suggest you do a full factory data reset and then update.
How many Wifi APs have you tried?

[Q] Longhorn 2.9.3 Random Rebooting

Hi
I've been using Longhorn 2.9.3 from a fresh install and really love the rom.
Everything works great except where lately I've been having issues where the phone just reboots out of the blue.
This has happened on average 10-15 times this past week.
Can anyone help?
Cheers
Nico

try to check which application that causing this.. a fresh install does not happen at all of random reboots.. not even once...
you could try to wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache and lastly wipe data .. do dell factory reset too if case is worsen...

Cheers mate,
I haven't installed any apps since about a week before this started.
Do you know of any apps that may cause this? as removing them one at a time and waiting for it to happen again is going to take ages.
It seems to have gotten better this last week.. only 1 or 2 reboots.
Further Indications......
Hi folks,
I'm having the same issues with Longhorn 2.9.3 Final, but it only seems to randomly reboot when the the phone is left idle and the screen goes off, So my first attempt was to disable the lock screen - no effect, then I tried certain background apps, such as Go Launcher EX, followed now by Facebook, and a local taxi app, nothing as yet.
I have tried wiping various caches, but it made no difference unfortunately.
If anybody know anything relevant to this issue don't hesitate but to share it with us, please.
I really am very fond of this custom ROM, and don't want to abandon it.
Thanks in advance
Ben.

After going through clearing caches, replacing internal and external SD cards, cleaning the back door blah blah blah I found the following.
When I ran the Maps app, it asked if I wanted to use wifi for location to which I responded yes... mistake! If the wifi location option is checked, the phone seems try to use wifi when it is asleep and ends up rebooting.
I found this by turning the wifi off which made the phone sleep without re-booting and then by turning wifi on and disabling wifi location in Maps.
A long, involved process but now my Streak is rock steady and I don't have to think about reverting to a stock ROM... hooray
.

.
Stability update...
Uptime 600h
Previously would reboot twice a day or more
Very happy with the ROM now
I am having this problem also
I have a reboot problem as described above. The problem is that when I disable the use wireless networks option it does not disable. That is I leave the screen. Go back to it and it is still checked.
Please Help.
Web....
what kernel and baseband have you using?
Same here...
I 've been faceing the same problem exactly... latest longhorn randomly reboots, usually first the 3 buttons flash a few times before the reboot...
I downloaded and installed the 407 baseband and radio, then longhorn, did all wipe and dell reset, still the same ...
I've read this forum a few times, still though, would anyone be so kind to direct me towards a link here, where I could in fact revert the dell to an official rom version, before trying anything else?
Tnx in advance

I ended up disabling the Wifi location and my Streak works great. I had some app installed that was messing with me disabling/changing the wifi location settings. Sometimes I could not even disable wifi.
I remove a ton of apps. Was able to disable location via wifi and my phone has been working great ever since.
I can confirm that I had a problem with this and disabling it fixed it.

No DATA Connection After JB Update

Hello Everyone,
I need some help, I updated to JellyBean but now I have no data connection! I am not rooted, I have tried restarting my phone, turning airplane mode on and off, nothing seems to work. It seems nobody else is having this problem, is something in my settings wrong?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
I am having the similar issue. After updating, WI-FI stopped working, but I am able to get on the internet through the 3G connection.

Try playing with the Sprint Connection Optimization, and playing with the Power Save setting. Also, do generic reboot process.
so i had the same problem not being able to use my wifi at home but the 3g worked fine. before the update, my wifi worked so i knew it wasnt my wifi. i even tried to forget the network and enter my password again to reconnect. that didnt work either, i knew it probably had something to do with that sprint optimizer because it asked me to confirm something or another. i just got fed up and did a factory reset. that did it, still wondering what exactly caused the problem with the wifi...

I'm not 100% certain this is what fixed it for me, but I went into "Settings | Wi-Fi | Menu | Advanced | Wi-Fi frequency band" and toggled the settings, and all has been well since.
to fix the wifi issue with the JB ota: settings/wifi/menu/advanced/uncheck DLNA auto-ip. enjoy
damn, wish i knew this before resetting my phone
