I was checking my battery stats and the cell radio status was showing 35% without a signal, is this normal?
No. Time without signal is a huge drain on the battery. If you are in areas with poor signal its better for your battery if you turn on airplane mode.

Then, is there a way I can test my antenna? I spend the entire day downtown where, presumably, should be the best signals in the city.
Are you sure this isn't related to the known gingerbread bug where time without signal is erroneously reported?

No, it isn't. For most people this function is broken and always displays 100%

I wouldn't know how to tell. I don't use voice much. However, my data rates are awful, consistently below 1,000 kbs down.
Mine says 100%

I've noticed when mine is showing time without signal, if I just go to Settings>About Phone>Status, then back out it will start reading that it does have a signal after that.

So I just checked my phone here at work and it's been off charger for 2 hours and is already down to 80% battery. The biggest battery drainer is "Cell Standby" since the phone has mostly just been sitting there.
does anyone know why cell standby is draining the battery? I though cell standby would just be maintaining a connection, but is it anything more than that?
Running lean kernal/Das BAMF 1.5
If you select Cell standby it says its "Battery used by cell radio". I believe its the amount of time searching for a signal. Are you in a bad 4g area and your phone is constantly switching between 4g and 3g? It is odd for that to be the biggest battery drain but I guess if you have not had your screen on at all than its not too much of a surprise. Remember that under battery stats all of those percentages and information is based on how much battery you have used so far so it may say 30% of it has been used by the cell standby but that only means that 30% of the 20% battery life you have used.
If you click on cell standby you will see the answer to your battery drain. I bet the without a signal percentage will be up and the cause of the drain.

Kernel has nothing to do with the radio so that doesnt really matter.

Mine is always number 2, right behind display. However, my time without signal is always 0%. I live in a good 4G area, but do work in an area where I bounce around a lot. In it's infancy I expect LTE to give people fits with this. I don't think it's that out of the ordinary.
Curious what everyone else has listed as cell standby percentage listed in battery usage. I just happened to look and mine is listed as 100% without signal even though I have had signal all along. I wonder if this could be a bug like the 50% without signal I experienced with my cappy.

My cell standby is 6% currently
Mine is 21%, Android OS at 59%. Signal is constant yellow, which is odd since it was in decent signal much of that time.
Well that is weird, mine is reading 100%. I wonder what is going on.

OK me thinks maybe I wasn't clear in the OP. What I am talking about is when you bring up Battery Usage and then click on Cell Standby it then brings you to the break down of the Cell Standby. There you will see Time On as well as Time Without a Signal. In my case the Time Without a Signal is reading 100%. What is everyone elses reading?
Time without a signal: 31% - rather surprised it's that high
To the OP, I was just about to make a thread on this because I knew I couldn't be the only one with this problem. I've had this bug since day one, it always says 100% no cell service.

I'm not sure if it's the same thing but in the international version it's a display bug and for some reason if you go into settings--about phone---status, the % starts to drop.
Oh wow. I haven't even looked at this until I saw this thread. My cell standby says 3% but it says I've gone without signal for 96%. And I've been in coverage for most of the day

Nope, no Google Voice and my Time Without Signal is 100%.
maybe they miss word it. maybe it should have read "Time with Signal"... cuz I am on a Microcell... and I have signal alllll the time
Just saw this thread and checked - I'm another user with 100% time without signal indicated. Been in decent coverage most of the day. I have google voice installed.
Mine is 13%. Still weird

It seems to be a known bug with the GS2. There are threads discussing it in the I9100 forums. Ever since I went into About Phone/Status my time without signal percentage has stayed St 0%. I guess it's kind of like the 50% bug with the GalaxyS1.

Checked my wife's SGSII tonight when she got home from work. Reported cell standby as 6% of battery use, and 0% time without signal. She has Google Voice installed as well.
A couple of maybe related items:
a) When we brought both devices home, hers connected to our MicroCell with no problems. Mine would not connect at all, until I did a sim swap with her device. After swapping back to our original sims, both connect to the MicroCell.
b) with very similar time off the charger today (me at 10 hours, her at almost 12) and similar screen on times (me: 1hr 27 min, her 1hr 11min) she had 60% battery remaining, I had 33%. I am running some additional apps, and used google nav for about 6 minutes. She was in wifi coverage all day (except while commuting) I had no wifi all day. Not sure if the battery burn difference is justified by those differences or not - or if they are possibly somewhat related to the 0 vs 100 time without signal indication (I was only showing 7% battery drain from the cell standby).
I too have the 100% "bug" I also read in the i900 threads that once we go to:
settings>about phone>status the "time without signal" percentage will begin to drop. I can confirm it. It's at 98% for me now. I seem to have pretty good battery life. About 16 hours on a single charge. I think its just a bug but makes me wonder if my battery life would last twice as long with "time without signal at 0%" I do not have google voice and all the apps and widgets I have that can be configured are set to sync manually (with the exception of the google apps) (auto sync is on).
Does anyone else have this problem? My cell standby says im 100% of time without signal. But im connected when i check it. Is this a known bug or is my device defective? Doesn't seem to effect battery life for me but it Is slightly concerning since i know the counter is ticking for a replacement hassle free from AT&T

EDIT: cell standby says 6% after almost 19hrs and i'm rooted running cognition beta 4
It is a bug also seen in the international version GS2. I have the same issue. To make the percentage of time without signal go down you simply go into settings/about phone/status. After doing that you will notice the percentage slowly start creeping down from 100%.

How strong is your signal at work? If you have a weak signal, the phone turns up the power to the radios and will drain your battery trying to keep that weak signal connected.
That's pretty atrocious.... Can you switch? What mods do you have?

5 hrs 54 min -- 66% left. I had the display on auto brightness, just switched it to 20% not too long ago. I'd say moderate use today. Maybe 15 emails so far, 10-15 texts. Display on time is 1 hour 30 min for 52% of my battery usage.

Yeah, I saw that, but I'm not familiar with what the colors mean. I assume green is where it's using signal, and grey is where it's not? Or is grey low signal?

We have similar signals and usage it looks like. I work in a cinder block factory with terrible signal. I try to keep it on airplane mode if I know Im going into poor reception areas for awhile. But I usually dont remember. I have plenty of widgets and auto syncs on.
Ive had 1.5 hours of screen time. Battery is 52%
Did you charge it from a computer? Maybe the cpu isn't entering the deep sleep mode.
It's your cell signal. I had terrible reception with my Verizon Nexus and since switching I am shocked at how much better my battery life is. I don't use the device more or less, but this is amazing.

What are you guys using to display battery percentage on the toolbar? I'd like an app that can do that, but the best I found was battery notifier. I'm not rooted, on stock ROM.
And, to the original poster, I normally get anywhere from 15-28 hours on battery, depending on how many emails, texts, games, photos, etc I do. I have managed to kill it in about 4 hours, but that was on a marathon plants vs zombies session.

Try Battery Indicator. Puts a permanent notification in the status bar but that's the best you are going to get w/o rooting. That app is fairly small and the numbers are easy to read - others I've tried are much bigger and are hard to read.
Turn off your Wifi if you've been leaving it on. Also install CPU Spy and see if the phone is entering Deep Sleep - or not.

So I've been enjoying my ultra for the last couple days. Battery seems great. But losing percentages of battery at standby caught my eye. My phone would die when I wouldn't even be using it. So yesterday I found the culprit. Mobile network on all the time kept draining it. I disabled it and enabled wifi at work and home and now the battery lasts for days. Just a quick tip.

In every phone that's the main reason for battery drain on standby.
You could set Stamina mode to disconnect some functions you don't use while the screen is off, and leave on just the one that are vital (for you).
Anyway, another reason could be the signal strength in your area: if it's not strong enough, the battery drains because your smartphone is constantly trying to get the best signal (between 2G, E, 3G, H and H+) for its connections, and that is VERY battery consuming.

I got it when I am home. Poor H+ signal and 3G signal, so it always switch between H+/3G/E and it result in bigger battery drain. I go in the center and keep mobile data open and no problem.
