This is driving me mad. I'm running Gmail 2.3.5. When I delete a message from Gmail on a PC this doesn't happen. It only happens when I delete from the device.
Basically whenever I delete a message I get a new notification and there's no new message. It took a while before I realised that it was tying into deletions because I get so many mails.
I checked my settings. It is set to sync the last 4 days and only on Inbox and Sent labels. It's also only set to notify once for new mail which does work. I've also never had any other email apps on the phone and have one account syncing.
I've scoured the settings but I seriously can't see anything I'm missing. There is a "Recycle Bin" label that is only on the device and I can't see that you can control syncing on it since it's not listed in the settings.
I'm sure I'm overlooking something simple here. I'd appreciate any help.

Hey! I have a rooted Thunderbolt (Das BAMF Remix 1.6.3, using Imo's 2.7.0 leanKernel), but I have the LauncherPro app and I have my dock display my calls, messages, GMail, as well as a shortcut to the browser.
When I installed this about three weeks ago, my SMS notifications used to work (when I get a notification, a little red notification bubble came up next to my message icon, which was customized, and so are the rest of my dock icons), and then it stopped working - once I installed SMS Go, it started to work again for a bit, and then stopped.
So for two weeks I sort of just accepted that, and then for some odd reason my GMail notifications stopped working... I would get e-mail, and it would say "Inbox (1)" when I click on the GMail icon to open it up, but to see it I would have to refresh and then it would pop up and then if I went to the home screen, the notification bubble would return. These notifications used to be instantaneous; I sent myself a test e-mail and waited for hours, and after doing several test e-mails, I realized sometimes (not all the time though) the application, even after an hour, was not recognizing I got mail until I refreshed.
I tried changing setting to check mail often, made sure on LauncherPro's preferences I set the notifications to be on... I am just unsure why my notifications would stop working (and my GMail is slowly going to crap - I even uninstalled and reinstalled, did not help).
Does anyone have any advice, opinions, or suggestions for this weird problem? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
Bump - does anyone have any suggestions? I just tried uninstalling and reinstalling GMail again with no success.

Check under accounts to make sure that sync is still on for your Gmail account.

Go into Settings > manage apps > all. Open the Gmail icon. Click on "clear cache " and "clear data ". Ignore the warnings. Return to home page, and open Gmail. It will resync, and your problem should be solved.

I've had gmail bug out on me about three times total dating all the way back to my OG droid. It always happened after flashing a new ROM even with full wipes. My situation was a little different (basically if I "deleted" a email in the gmail app it wouldn't actually delete. It would never resync to my phone but I still would get a x amount of new messages. I would then log into my gmail on the pc and there are all the messages that I had "deleted") I solved this once by just clearing data and cache, but the other two times I had to do a wipe and reinstall. What was interesting though is each time I back upd my current Rom and used that on the restore and bam it was fixed.
Is there any way I can change the frequency of when the GMail app checks mail/forwards them to my phone?
through the gmail app itself no. You could use the "mail" provider on the phone and receive gmail that way. In that program you (i think) can set up the frequency that it syncs. A couple of downsides to this though:
1. unless it has changed since I haven't tried it since the OG droid, it won't delete emails off your web based account only your phone.
2. you would need to delete the gmail app on your phone.
ok, i'm not normally one to have trouble with issues such as these, but this is my first android phone (htc evo 3d) and when i first got it on launch date, i manually entered all my contacts from my old phone to my new one. well i recently went through the root process and read that if you had your gmail account as the primary google account, that you wouldnt have to worry about your contacts anymore, after a wipe or changing to a new phone.
well after root i let the phone do all the gmail syncing after enabling it, and my contacts are still not there. i am having trouble getting into an option that will let me view or add or edit contacts from google. i go into accounts and sync, click my google account but all it will let me do is enable or disable the syncing of contacts. can someone give me a brief rundown of exactly how this works? and are my contacts all gone?
It works pretty much the way you described it; once you have the contacts in your phone you sync and they all get saved to your default gmail account. Then when/if you decide to wipe, you run sync again and they'll be uploaded to your phone.
This is what I'd do if I were you;
- Open gmail -> contacts and check if they are actually there.
- If your contacts are there, then maybe you don't have them set to shown in your phone display options under contacts.
thanks for the quick reply. when you say to open gmail, do you mean through the accounts and sync settings menu? or the gmail app? when i go through the accounts and sync, i just get the option of turning the syncing for each category (i.e. contacts, weather, news) on or off, i cant actually go into each one to see what they are comprised of. i feel pretty dumb not being able to figure this out, but i had over 100 peoples numbers and information on my contacts before i wiped and rooted my phone, so i'm willing to accept sounding like a noob in hopes of possibly getting them back.
thanks again in advance.
No problem at all No, I meant open it on your computer (http://www.google.com/contacts) and see if there are any in there.
Regarding display options; I don't know which phone you're using, but you get there by opening Contacts -> Display Options on my LG (http://www.shrani.si/f/30/1s/1KBZD0Ot/screenshot-1314442655693.png a screenshot of how it might look like if it's of any help)
My wife got this phone over this past weekend. The stock email app is not updating. She never receives her new emails on her phone. So I downloaded k9 app and it worked the first day. Now it is not syncing with her yahoo email account and always says she doesn't have any new emails. She can login to her email on a computer and has several new emails a day. Any ideas?
Im assuming youve been through the basics? Making sure mobile data is on, settings are set correctly in the app for refresh times, background data enabled, no task killers/managers running, etc.
Check Settings / Accounts and make sure the account(s) are set to sync and that they're allowed to sync in the background.
Although this may not be the answer to your issue,I had a similar experience w/the G-MAIL app recently.I tried everything, including downgrading to an older version of it.
I consulted w/other users & compared settings.Mine were identical, but, still had to manually refresh to see the new mail in my inbox.
The only thing that resolved this issue was a factory reset.Works fine now.
Additionally, while having this issue,I was unable to access the DATA SAVER settings page. When I selected it,it would just flash,as if it were trying to open, but,no can do.
Weird thing is that I only messed w/these settings on one occasion, when the phone was new, just to check it out(no need to limit data on an unlimited plan, right?).
Anyway, after the factory reset, everything is back to normal.
Just goes to show there is no perfect phone,O/S,or app,100% of the time.
Dont know if this is the right GENERAL section, but lets see
I have 3 gmails. Personal, and 2 for work.
When I put my third email in (created it on my phone)
It does not show the emails I have received, it does not even have the counter next to my account in the gmail app.
I have to click "ALL MAIL" to see my emails?
Gets kind of annoying.
When I receive an email it does pop up, when I read it, gmail says "no conversation" when I go back. Again, I have to click ALL MAIL to see past emails
Yes, I did reboot, yes I did clear data in application menu, yes I checked auto-sync on and off, yes I did make sure background data was checked.
I'm thinking there's something I need to do on the PC??
Need to find some way to DISABLE repeating email notifications...as in I keep getting repeated "new" email notifications for the same email until another, newer email comes in...I've even got notifications clicked off in the settings menu and I am still getting notifications.
Any ideas? Running Clean ROM right now, but it was happening on Novella Dos as well...one of the reasons I switched over to CR...it is quite maddening.
Thanks in advance!

Go into your email, go to settings, and Uncheck "Email Notifications" I am running AOSP Email, but it should be similar.

thats the problem. POP3 will show a notification on any unread email. also, if you r deleting the email from the phone, you may not be deleting it from the server. POP3 gives you the option to change this in the incoming server settings. when inside the incoming server settings, you will see at the bottom that there is an option that says what the phone should do when you delete an email from the phone. if you delete it from the phone only, the email will still exist on the server. this will cause multiple notifications of the same email, even if it is marked as read.
a couple solutions:
1: if you ARE NOT deleting the emails and getting duplicate notifications, switch the account to an IMAP config. (every email host i have had gives you both options: IMAP or POP3)
2: if you ARE deleting the emails and the Incoming server setting is set to "Delete email from server: Never", you will need to change that to "When i delete from inbox". otherwise, you will have to deal with duplicate notifications. NOTE: IF YOU DELETE THE EMAIL OFF OF THE SERVER, ANY OTHER PLACE THE EMAIL IS STORED (I.E.: HOME COMPUTER, TABLET, ETC.) WILL ALSO DELETE OFF OF THOSE DEVICES.
you should also know that when deleting an email with an IMAP config will automatically delete it off of the server. IMAP will also show when you have viewed or replied to an email across all devices that are signed into the same email address as IMAP.

Thanks for the detailed response...I don't know what to say really; the problem has only happened recently, say last few weeks. I finally got fed up with it and sought a resolution.
I switch roms frequently, so I have to set up accounts frequently enough to know what is checked and my settings are default, always the same. So why the change? I guarantee I could power up my Rezound and the settings would be the same...and I never had this problem before.
Doesn't matter if the emails are read or not. Right now I have notifications off and the problem still is occurring. If I delete an email then I'm still notified for the next newest.
And last but not least, the problem has followed me across different roms. Thought it was specific to one as I had used that rom for several weeks. So maybe it is something server side. Can't configure Knology(now WOW) for IMAP, I tried. Besides, I refuse to check 'delete from server' because there are emails I need to keep that need attention from my home PC. I can change sync settings to longer periods or off, but that is not really feasible either.
So bottom line is, I just don't get it.
**Update** Not sure exactly what fixed it as I did multiple things in a short period, but the problem no longer exists. Unticked, rebooted, reticked notifications and all is good. Also loaded a different rom from bachup, but that was before I did above steps. Who knows??:fingers-crossed:
