[Q] TSM rom - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Because I can't post in the development related threads yet I was going to ask here, I just installed TSM Resurrection yesterday and have had a few random reboots when it locks up and freezes then just reboots. Any ideas what it is, maybe kernel?

What kernel are you running? they're saying the GeeWiz 2.1 kernel is working better over there...I might try it out since I'm in the same boat as you.

I'm just using whatever kernel came with it. I haven't flashed anything else and so I was thinking about the GeeWiz kernel or I think there may have been another one mentioned I may try out if GeeWiz doesn't fix it.
EDIT: Actually it doesn't come with a kernel does it? If not I'm using whatever kernel comes with PWGB as that is what I was on before TSM.

Yeah, so you're on the PWGB packaged kernel. There's a new kernel out 10/21 that might fix the reboot issues. In the TKSGB thread, linked near the top. Hasn't been out long though, might want to wait until it has been tested well? Good luck.

I'm on the PWGB kernel and have zero issue, I wonder where this is coming from.

Flash TKSGB 1021 which is the latest release. Run it for a day and see how it goes. While you're at it, download the 1006 version and leave it on your SD. If you run into problems, flash the 1006. Always wipe dalvik between kernel changes

[Q] [Telus Fascinate] CM7 Flashing Question

Hi
I am looking to install CM7 on my Telus Fascinate. I would have asked this in the guides i have been reading but i don't have enough posts to post in the development area. I am currently running stock 2.2 with the Voodoo Lag Fix kernel. I've read a bunch of guides in the forums and i am just wondering can i flash with CM7 with this kernel running? I know i have to disable lag fix but i also see in guides about installing different kernels first. Also is there an initial version of CM7 i need to flash first or can i just go right to the latest nightly version.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Make TRIPLE sure you disable voodoo first. Start with the base CM7, since the kernel is bundled in with the package, then you can flash the latest nightly without any concerns (other than wiping cache).

[Q] Going from Comm Rom to TSM Resurrection?

Want to upgrade from Comm rom 2.1 with the voodoo kernel it came with, probably to the recent TSM Resurrection 1.0. Looks like there's another compatible voodoo kernel out, can I flash that first, and then the new rom? Or do I need to undo voodoo and go back to stock, starting from there? Not sure what radio I'm on, baseband says EB01.
Sorry if these questions suck, I haven't upgraded for months. Looking for opinions on best order of operations here is all! Thanks everyone.

Odin PWGB 2. 0 which is a complete tar package. Then flash tsm res in Cwm. Then you can choose your kernel and lag fix settings
TSM Resurrection 1.0,TKSGB10-18,XIX,ec09 radio.
This is a question. Questions go in the ......question and answer forum.
To answer your question, these are all bml roms. Assuming that you have an ec09 or later radio you should be able to flash it after wiping data unless the Op of the new rom says that it requires the gingerbread bootloaders.

Damn, figured I would do something wrong, maybe a mod can move this.
Thanks for the tips guys.

In case it helps anyone, this worked perfectly. I have so far kept the kernel that comes with PWGB2.0 to see how it is, but I miss the BLN tools and voodoo sound.

[Q] 2 questions

hi. i just want to ask these 2 questions.
question 1:
can i flash over a new rom over my bionix 1.3.1 running bali kernel 1.8.8? i would like to try an ics rom if it will do me good.
question 2:
if i switched to another rom, what will happen to my kernel? will there be incompatibility issues? however im planning to change the kernel if ever. can it also just be flashed over bali 1.8.8?
thanks.
Yes can flash on top might have to flash twice. Wipe is recommended.
Roms usually include kernel so don't have to worry about kernel. Btw 2.2 kernels like bali 1.8 would be in incompatible with 2.3 ics and aosp kernels

Just want to add: Make sure to read the install instructions before you flash and it's a good idea to read the entire thread so you know what issues you might have. You should also know how to recover your phone should something go wrong.
In addtion, make a nandroid back up before you do anything, just in case you bork something and have to go back.

Help with correct version.

New SG2
Home home, it was running 2.3, did a OTA check, it said 2.6 was available. Didnt do it, researched on here first. Noticed alot of battery issues with it.
Rooted with superoneclick.
Flashed Sihyah kernel with odin
Flashed STOShock
Flashed ICS Theme
Charged to 100%, wiped battery stats
Now its my first day running the phone. The battery is really sucking right now. Its been dropping like 1-3% just when i reboot the phone. Seems to drop about 5-10% an hour of the phone doing nothing/turning screen on for 1-3 minutes a couple times to check notifications every hour. I checked wake locks etc, nothing is holding it up.
Now i noticed the version of the system is UCK6 and the kernel is 2.6. Dont these versions have problems?
Is there any other suggests Kernels or roms to flash? I'll even goto a stock rom if its battery life and performance is near the top for all roms. All i really care about is a solid stable long lasting phone with a ics theme and having root.
Perhaps the crappy battery could be from this being my first charge too and the battery not going through any charge/drain cycles yet?
there is no version 2.6 for android....
kernel version and android version are not the same thing. 2.6.x kernel is normal for EVERY version of gingerbread.
what you need to do is have a look at the threads, specifically one called [REF] Known identified battery drainers and check at what apps are eating up your battery.
Doh, what i meant was 2.3.4 to 2.3.6 i believe. And i followed that thread, there are no wakelocks keeping the phone up.
Maybe a better question is. Should i be running UCK7 and not UCK6? Im reading it has some wifi bug that drains down and i use wifi alot
Im thinking of maybe going stock. As long as i can be ics themed.

shostock is a great rom, i have had excellent battery life.
try unnamed 1.3.2 and see if it works out better for you.
Alright ill give that a try i suppose.
Does it matter that im running the latest Siyha kernel? I dont have to reflash any kind of different kernel do i?

a kernel will be included with the rom.
you can flash any kernel you like, but it could be whats causing your battery issues.
I see, i thought you had to flash a custom kernel first before flashing a rom. Because on the SHOstock page for installation it said "You must be running a kernel with CWM."
So i thought i needed to flash a kernel first.
But anyway, if roms include kernels, which im guessing the rom is optimized specifically for that kernel thats included. Whats the point of having them seperate to flash? So you can run a different kernel for some reason after you flash a rom thats using a different one?

You only need the kernel beforehand for CWM. The mentioned roms have kernels included in their package, so it'll be changed upon flash. After flashing the rom, you then have the choice to change to the kernel of your liking. The kernel included is typically the developer's choice for what they think is the best for their rom (perhaps PirateGhost will chime in on this part). Your experience may vary though, which is why you might change to something else.
Gotcha, totally understand. I looked around trying to find a thread that explained the different Base versions.
UCKK6
UCKH7
GWK74, etc,
Im trying to understand the order of oldest to newest release, and what the differences are.
Also, im guessing these bases are official samsung coded items right?

[solved]problems regarding ics rom

I am using ics passion rom for past 5 months .....recently tried flashing iczen and encountered these problems .......1-whenever I flash an ics rom it bootloops and each time I have to remove battery and rebot again ...like this for nearly 3 to 5 times if I do after that it boots properly after that It runs fine .....2-after installing iczen for 1 day it worked fine later it was not recievieng any calls but i was able to call others ....for information I stay in India so worried of doing something as I won't get any support here ....now I'm on ics passion ...plz help me out.
Well the problem is, and maybe this is why no one replied, you need to do a full wipe and a cache wipe before flashing into diff roms like from passion to iczen

Aside from wiping properly, you might have downloaded the problematic ICZen 1.8.5, check your MD5 against what I have posted in that OP.
For about 12 hours I had one posted that had a problem with the ramdisk in the kernel, and it was not compatible with the Froyo RIL that was included with the AOKP milestone6 source MP used to build the ICZen base. The rom has since been updated with a good kernel that supports both RIL types, and a new MD5 is posted in the thread so you can verify if you have the correct version. Not all phones had the issue, but some did, it was a weird one, but it caused exactly what you are experiencing, loss of signal and ability to receive calls and texts.
Also, you might want to try the Stock RIL, thats posted on the other site, in mr_psycho's subZero kernel thread. Its a flashable zip. The kernel currently in ICZen_1.8.5 is compatible with both RILs now, so if you redownload the rom, you'll be safe either way.
after flashing 1.8.5 again its working properly ......thanx for helping another thing does baseband version changes after flashing a rom? I have same version in both ics passion and iczen is this normal?
ICZen won't flash the modem if you already have a valid modem in place. In other words, if you come from a Twiz based build, then it flashes the KB5 modem, but coming from another ICS rom, it won't flash a modem since there is already one there.
