folks,
I was running sky-raider zeus rom on my HTC Thunderbolt. I went into Rom Manager and decided i wanted to try out the Cynagenmod rom. I down loaded it. Chose to do a full wipe and download google apps. Since then it rebooted after and has been stuck in the Boot animation.
I tried to go into recovery and it asks me if i want to proceed with update. I choose yes. Unzips files and reboots into the boot animation and remains stuck.
Please Help.
Describe in as much details how you flashed this Rom, what did you name the file if you changed it at all? Did you flash in Rom manager or recovery? Did you clear data/cache/davlik? What version of recovery are you using? How did you flash in recovery, did you go to select zip file from SD card?
If I helped you in any way please use the thank you button

I used Rom Manager and I had the latest version. I'm not sure what the # was. I chose to wipe all options and download google apps. After that I did not touch the phone and it went into reboot and has been stuck in the boot animation since.
Thanks for your help in advance
So you flashed the Rom from CWM app?
If I helped you in any way please use the thank you button
Ok this is what you do never ever flash a Rom from Rom manager, you are going to want to select reboot to recovery and do it from there. Here are steps to save your night.
1. take battery out and put back in and hold down on volume and hold power button at same time. this will boot into Hboot.
2. Select recovery (god I hope you don't have a radio sitting there) or that will load instead of recovery. If this is the case you will want to remove your SD card and use a computer to remove the radio from ur card.
3. Once you are in recovery select clear data/cache and then under advanced clear davlik. And select install file from SD card and it should say select file and just pick last Rom you loaded I always keep a few on mine just in case.
4. This will install the Rom the correct way, after it is done reboot and all should be well.

Grnlantern79,
Thank you so much for your help. I do have something sitting there. I"m not sure if it is a radio though i think it is. It reads
Parsing...[SD ZIP]
[1] MDM9K
[2] Radio_V2
Do you want to update?
What should i do?
Yes it is a radio and No don't update, and hopfully it will allow you get to recovery if not get on computer and remove the pg05img file off SD card.

Yea once you flash a radio either move it off the root of SD card or rename it so you can use it at a later time in case a future radio does not work as well. It's always good practice to keep the root of SD card clear of files named pg05img.zip or update.zip

I had issues with my recovery ever since updating to DL30 and continuing until EB01. I attempted to install red recovery but I would always boot in blue then had to select apply sdcard: update.zip. This did not make me feel safe so these are the steps I followed in order to fix and update my recovery. This thread is mainly for "newbs" that have a diffucult time understanding what older users are trying to say.
Before you begin, download the cwm-recovery-ALL zip file from jt1134's thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
and
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17566514/update.zip
STEP 1:
Place the "cwm-recovery-ALL" file in the clockwork mod folder on SD card and rename it "recovery-update" replacing the old one already in this folder.
STEP2:
Place the "update" file on the root of your SD card replacing any current "update file".
STEP3:
Reboot into recovery and if you boot in blue select "apply sdcard:update.zip"
STEP 4:
You should be in green recovery now and select "install zip from SD card" then select "choose zip from SD card"
STEP 5:
Navigate to the clockworkmod folder on your SD card and install the "recovery-update" that you placed in there earlier.
STEP 6:
Once "recovery-update" is done installing, go back to the main menu in green recovery and select "apply sdcard:update.zip".
STEP 7:
You will still be in green recovery but on next reboot you should boot into red. If you are still booting into green, copy the "update" file on the root of your SD card and paste it in the clockworkmod folder on your SD card. Delete the existing "recovery-update" and rename the "update" file you just placed in there "recovery-update".
-Try booting to recovery once more and you should now boot directly to red recovery. If not, please start over and go step by step.
-If you still have issues with booting to red recovery after following these steps, please flash http://db.tt/6dZUc7d in Odin and start steps over. (Thank you Takafiji)
NOTE:
I am not responsible for anyone who destroys their recovery by not following the steps provided. Please, please read carefully.
Credit to jt1134 and Takafiji for providing the recovery files.
Thanks, I was tired of using Odin to get Red recovery mode every time I wanted to flash a new ROM. For some reason I still find myself needing to reflash the eb01-modem.tar everytime I want to install a new superclean eb01 build.
also i think the sammy kernel sneaks in and replaces cwm with there stock (blue) recovery. so i recommend on first flash using odin, then boot directly to recovery, (not going into bootscreen) then follow his directions.
Also thats not my dropbox link its another guys, ill find the name, i just used it because it did the job.
Blue recovery does "sneak" in it seems. I have red recovery but blue does load sometimes with a "failed" message. If I apply "update" it goes to what looks like download mode. From there nothing works. Hold down volume keys and power reboots into red. Sometimes recovery goes directly to red? Trial and error....

That happened to me as I was following these steps the first time. Turned out I had a bad update.zip file. Make sure your files are named correctly and not "update.zip" as it will show up in your system as "update.zip.zip". Should just be named "update" on root of SD card and "recovery-update" in clockworkmod folder. If you haven't followed the steps I provided please do as I haven't had any issues yet with it. Maybe try Takafiji's advice and flashing the Odin files first.
if using windows the way to change and see the extension of a file such as .zip open up "my computer" click "tools" (if you cant see it hold the "alt" key) then click "folder options" hit the "view tab" and uncheck "hide extensions for known filetypes" hit ok and your set! Now you can see .zip, .java, or whatever the extension is!
I folowed this procedure. It worked. Except when rebooting to recovery from rom manager it reverts to blue recovery and cant go any further. When i use the startup volume keys and power it goes to red. When i use the shut down and recovery from the power off screen it goes to red. Only when I use rom manager it goes to blue. Normally I wouldn't mind because i can still get to it to flash roms but trying to use the blackhole custom rom it would be much easier if I let rom manager flash all the files in a row instead of manually flashing one by one. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Great info - Thanks!
A couple of questions:
Can the Red CWM restore backups taken with the Green CWM?
The Reset Battery Stats command does not give any indication that it worked. I select it, say Yes, I really want to reset battery stats, then I am back at the Advanced menu. Did the reset work?

I think its the kernel to tell you the truth. I saw it in another cwm post that the sammy kernel will replace cwm. Try following this method but add in an odin flash of http://db.tt/6dZUc7d then on first boot go directly to recovery if you get to boot screen start over, once in recovery follow the steps in the first post.

Rom Manager uses the recovery-update.zip file in the clockworkmod folder. After installing recovery-update.zip in step 5, did you copy the update.zip file on the root of your SD card and paste it over in the clockwork mod folder and rename it recovery-update.zip? It should replace the recovery-update.zip you placed in the folder on step 1. I just used RomManager to boot to recovery and it took me directly to red.

Yes, it can restore backups from green.
Personally I have the same question about wiping battery stats. I believe there is an issue currently with wiping on FROYO because I have noticed even though I wipe data and cache multiple times before installing any Rom, I still seem to have leftover data from the previous Rom such as wallpapers. I tried wiping on green before I installed red and it did the same thing, so I do not think it's limited to red but rather an issue with FROYO support.
I had to use the odin file first. It booted into red.
Then when I tried it through RM. I went to blue and couldn't verify the signature?
And I when I enter recovery mode manually, and try to select update.zip, it begins but gets about 25% and then the triangle with the exclamation point appears.
It works through odin, but never any other time.
Any help? All is appreciated.

The Odin file just places update.zip on the root of your SD card but you must still follow all of the steps for it to function properly. If it couldn't verify signature something is wrong with the update.zip file on the root of your SD card. Try deleting that and flashing the Odin file again. Then proceed to follow all of the steps again.
I installed it and can reboot into green recovery but when installing anything from the rom manager I get a invalid certificate message...

It didn't put it on the sd card. It just rebooted. Seems like nothing changed. I was closer when I put the update.zip on the sd.

You shouldn't be in green you should be in red. Adrynalyne recently stated that he does not condone the use of Rom Manager since it does not support us very well right now. Though I have used Rom Manager after installing this and everything works. If you are booting into green you must follow the steps after to boot into red and then everything should work except wiping battery stats.
alright folks try this after you flash red cwm vid http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021 using odin or the zip file, delete both update.zip from root and recovery-update.zip from clockworkmod.
This may sound crazy, but i've found out cwm red gets flashed to the boot partition,so theres no need for update.zip anymore.

I rooted by phone and flashed Adrynalyn's basic debloated ROM, with his kernel. I updated to the V2 Kernel after it was released and this caused a problem. I can't get SU access. Superuser FCs and Rom Manager FCs when I try to restore to previous backups. And I can't install from SD card in bootloader, as there is not that option. I saw this happen to another person, but my question is. Can I just do a factory reset and go back to Stock S-ON and then re-root. I have a filling I need to push an .img to the SD card or something. Any help would be great. I'm new at this, but trying to learn. Basically I just want to return to Stock, but I'm not sure how to since I can't flash or install.

Factory Reset won't help you, it only clears user data and the cache. You should try flashing the SU Fix, let me see if I can find the link for you before you go back to stock and start over.

Thanks Magentic. I saw this fix yesterday and I tried to flash it. But when I go into Rom Manager and select Reboot into Recover, I get the error message "Sorry!, The application Superuser (process com.noshufou.android.su) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" it does this over and over. Is there another way to flash the SU fix with out Superuser being involved?

Power off the device. Press and hold the volume down then hold the power until the hboot screen comes on. Then select 'recovery' then proceed. Then choose install .zip from sdcard. The browse to the file and press power, then confirm your selection through the warning screen.
**make sure you dont dont have a pg05img.zip on your sdcard before doing this or it will auto try to flash it.

Hot damn! Thanks magnetic. I tried that same thing yesterday, I must have missed a step or something and couldn't quite get it to work. Things seem to working fine now. RM has SU permissions now and I can use it.
used oden to flash CWM. now i cant boot into android, it just keeps kicking me into CWM recovery.
anyone see this? any suggestions? would a wipe fix it?
did you flash a rom if so which one?
no ROMs, simply just tried flashing CWM via Odin
may i ask why 2.3.5?
what were you trying to do?
i am still able to get into Download mode to flash files via Odin, so i dont think all is lost. but, still just stuck in recovery. when i try to reboot it just takes me right back into recovery. i may have flashed an incorrect version of CWM which could be the cause of this problem. if that was the case, any ideas as to how i can get back into a proper boot?

I was trying to flash CWM so i could flash a custom ROM. Had this phone forever and was just looking to try out some ROMs out there.
As long as you odin cwm none of your os is really touched.
try the cwm 4 fixed for cm7. http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...2&d=1311907538
Now when you reboot your device the stock kernel will over right the cwm.
also make sure you put the odin file in the PDA section.
So basically flash the new cwm and try booting into normal that should get you back where you started from. 100% stock.
that link didnt work. tried searching for the thread without any luck
for some reason it truncated the link with a '...' and it thinks that is part of the hyperlink

thanks.. so i flashed this via odin. same problem. i start the phone. the samsung logo comes up. it disappears for a second. then it comes back up and kicks me into recovery.
weird right? any suggestions
ok then what is your endgame?
Now before you said you flashed just the CWM, may i ask why...if you did not intend to flash a rom? were you going to flash a Kernel or obtain root?
Perhaps you should try this
Download this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278838
It is a custom kernel.
Now Flash CWM with odin
Put battery back in [dont touch power button yet]
Hold down BOTH volume and Power all at once * Dont let go until you see Samsung Logo.
[should still be plugged into pc via usb]
You will boot into CWM
using the volume up and down-Scroll down to Mounts and storage [select it by hitting the power button]
Then scroll to Mout USB storage
~now you should be able to see your SDCard as storage on your PC, put the Kernel some where on your SD Card~
[back on your phone Then Select Unmount
Scroll to ****Go bacK***** [select]
Scroll to install zip from sd card [select]
Select choose zip from sdcard
Navigate to where you have the zip
Select it
Scroll down to Yes-Flash........
Let the phone do its thing!
Good luck!

Hello i tried putting a recovery on my san francisco i used a method from sanfranciscoandroid.co.uk and it said it was converting it to gen2 then it installed cwm 5.0.2.0 that worked the only this is it wouldnt boot into the rom only the recovery so i tried reseting it and tried other roms but now its just doing the same, where do i go from here?
What you need to do is download the rom on your pc, then remove your sd card and copy the rom into the root directory of the sd. You don't unzip the files just leave it zipped.
Boot into recovery pressing the power button and Either up vol or down vol not sure which one (it's a long time since i've had a San Fran).
It will then boot into Clockworkmod Recovery.
scroll down using the volume keys to backup and then press the home key to select it.
Then repeat the process for factory data/wipeCache/Dalvik Cache
When you have done the wipes
scroll down to install zip from sdcard, select it, then slect choose zip from sdcard
scroll down to the zip rom and select it, then scroll down to yes install ziip select it and let it run, when it's finished reboot the phone
it should reboot with the new rom installed, it could take 5-10 minutes for the phone to reboot.
Good Luck
PS make sure the roms you download are for Gen2 or if its a Gen1 download a Gen1 rom, you can tell by installing an app called Mr Pigfish which will tell you what gen your OSF is.
The phone doesn't boot to the Tom at the moment so I can't check and I have done this but still no luck :/

Well. That white menu is called BOOTLOADER. Just so you know for the future.
Don't panic, it is not bricked .
First thing to do:
1.Shut down the phone completely.
2. Turn on your phone by holding down the buttons: Home + Power. -> This will lead you to your favorite recovery (AmonRA or CWM?)
3. When you are in recovery, go to the menu that says - "Wipe".
4. Wipe this things:
Data/cache
Dalvik cache
Sdcard ext (if having one).
Battery
Rotation settings
^ basically select to wipe everything that's in the respective menu.
5. Download a custom rom that suits you best.
6. Place that rom on the root of your sdcard (don't put it in a folder or whatever, just copy paste it in the sdcard).
7. Flash your rom
8. Reboot
9. Wait until the lights on the buttons goes on -> this is a sign that everything is working and the phone will boot every second.
10. Congrats
Oh, don't forget, some roms have lower boot times, so be patient when booting for the first time (it might take a few minutes).
Hit me back if this doesn't help you or you are having trouble!

What do you suggest I do now?

Ok:
You are in the recovery
Put your phone in usb mode (from recovery, hit the usb-ms toggle).
Go to MyComputer.
Select your sdcard - right click on it - FORMAT
Select the Fat16 or Fat32 format (not NTFS).
I suggest Fat16.
You can check the "Quick Format" since you don't have anything on it.
After it is done formatting, copy paste again your rom. -> MAKE SURE THAT IT IS COPIED CORRECTLY (leave it 2-3 minutes after it is finished copying).
Go to your computer
Right click on the SD CARD and hit "EJECT".
Now on your phone, press any button to go to the recovery menu.
Flash the rom.
It should be ok now.
That problem was because the rom was not copied completely or you have your sdcard in NTFS format. If the problem still persist, please redownload your rom. This problem might as well appear if the download was not completed correctly.
Hope this helps you. Cheers!
NOTE: ALWAYS FLASH ROMS THAT ARE INTENDED FOR YOUR PHONE -> HTC HERO.
DON'T FLASH ROMS THAT ARE FOR ANOTHER PHONE BECAUSE YOU WILL BRICK THE DEVICE!!!
I am current in Android System Recovery screen. Flashed Ice Patch v3
Everything is OK!
Install from sdcard is complete

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667202

Because that is not a ROM, didn't you saw that it is too small to be a ROM???
A rom has from 60mb to 250 mb... That had 6 mb or so... try this one
before flashing it again, WIPE EVERYTHING! because you flashed some things and if you flash the rom on top of that, it will not work.
so download that rom,
put it on sd card
wipe everything from recovery
flash the rom
reboot
enjoy.
don't forget to search the same thread for news and other versions of the rom. Right now it is v3 but in short time it will be v3.5!
Cheers
I have got access to the phone now thanks so much, ROM is nice too

Glad it worked .
Happy flashing dude!
Don't forget: always, ALWAYS, Wipe everything before you flash any other rom!!!!!
And also, it is good (if you change the rom to anything else) to go to your sdcard and delete these folders:
.Trash
Android
data
.android_secure (if you have one)
Lost.DIR
Just some feedback
When trying to access YouTube I find an error message: Invalid network response format. Do you have any idea how to fix it?
Also in "about phone" it says it is Android Version 2.3.7 but I can't download application such has BBC I Player, is this a problem everyone has?

Youtube has evolved as a program and it starts to be a ***** on older android roms. I don't use it because i don't see the point of it.
