Ice Cream Sandwich - When will we get? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm surprised we haven't got this topic yet. Since the SDK is already available. I wonder if the developers are taking a look into it? Hopefully developers here will be faster than Sammy's developers. Looking at Galaxy Nexus ICS, it really looks awesome, more user friendly. Let's discuss it!

I agree.. wonder if any of our dev are workin on porting it to the GSII. :/

If you do a quick search and read 1 of the 10 threads asking this, you would find out it would be within a month or so.

I love Ice-cream sandwich, and also wish Samsung will updated the SGS2 to Android 4.0 as soon as possible.By the way, I'm looking forward the function of Ice-cream sandwich!!

Haven't got this topic yet? If you only read the forum there are lots of threads like this.. Please read or search rather than opening new ones >.<

Maybe your personal topic about ICS we haven't yet because about ICS we have too much topics all over the sections!
Have you tried to use SEARCH function?

i have some question.
what will happen to the physical button?
will the resolution of the active screen became 480*798?
how does app that design for 480*800 will work on 480*798 or 720*1198?
thank you

omg cant believe another thread asking the same topic as other 8 threads.
Seriously is not hard at all use the search button before start posting something you surely can think someone else opened in past 2 days.
Cant the moderators merge all these ICS threads so we dont have 5 in q&a and 4 in general section? and imho it can be worth to put it sticky so ppl can see it before open another useless thread.

[Q] [REQ] nullDC/Dreamcast Emu for Android?

So from scouring the internet, I got my hopes up looking for a Dreamcast Emulator for my lovely new Transformer Prime. But apparantly, what development there was on such software has stagnated from reasons unknown to me. So my question is wether or not there is currently a team or one willing to continue or restart this research? I'd love to be a part of such developments, but unfortunately, I don't have enough skill or talent at this point with Android Developing to go for such a cause.
Mods: I have looked for an appropriate section to put this, but alas could only come close to this. (And yes, I have read the rules threads) If I have started this thread in the wrong section, please move it.

They revived the project a week ago with an official release: http://reicast.com/

The first official nightly is here!

The download finally works - but is the first official CM9 nightly any good?

I'm pretty sure it is like any other ROM. Just do a fullwipe and flash from the .zip.
For some reason I cannot download the ROM

Yes, wipe and flash - when CM fixes the link problem, I have contacted a couple of people about it.

Wow, THREE totally unhelpful replies, one right after the other, is he going for some kind of record?
this is an official build from the cm team?
Above all this thread is useless. There a official thread about CM9 already, active, in the same section.
Considering flashing with CWM, I hope people try search by themselves before asking 'How do I flash?'
There are plenty of Howto.
'Should I wipe?' (and what wiping....)
I know we're not done with those endless same questions......

Don't play with words, I'm fed up with those endless duplicated threads in the Prime threads, people want to be OP instead of just posting in an existing thread, or don't even search before posting. I've even seen a guy asking for something that had been answered two posts above his... And I find Moderators are not present enough.
The more threads on same subjects you have, the more difficult it is to find relevant information, as search engine is not always accurate. And the more same basic questions are repeated without any obvious search effort, the more you risk to fed up devs.
Some devs have quit XDA because they couldn't work efficently in their threads, even in some more organized threads like Optimus 2X ones, at least 3 or 4 major devs gave up support in XDA because of that.
Some guys if you want to have devs for long time, keep posting in already opened threads (we are not here to have our 15 minutes of glory), search answers by yourself before asking always the same wuestions and so on....
And above all, this thread is not a dev thread, why posting here?

His post is legitimate, there is only an unofficial thread, and thats alot different than the "OFFICIAL" nightly thread.

I think that most polite and helpful fellow was referring to the one labelled
"[ROM/WIP][Unofficial] CyanogenMod 9 for TF201"
...which covers a kang compiled by theeggman.
It must the the "official" Unofficial thread
While it is true this thread should not be in the dev section, I think the "official" unofficial one would fall into that category as well, unless either theeggman wrote CM9 or I misunderstand the link our helpful friend Striatum_bdr directed you towards - "If YOU DID NOT CREATE "it" THEN IT DOESN'T BELONG IN DEVELOPMENT"

You need to forgive him (or ignore him) he is French after all... or at least in France, which amount to the same thing.
Honestly, though, he has a point, he just has a crappy presentation of it. It's a problem across all forums, not just here... people don't want to search, they want to be spoonfed answers. Then they want to blame everyone else if something goes wrong, because it can't be their fault if they kinda, sorta, almost, followed the instructions they were too lazy to search for....
It's an ongoing theme here, and on other sites as well...

wtf??? are you crazy... this thread is right where it should be.
Personally, I'm glad there's a thread in the Development section letting me know about the official CM9 nightlies and I definitely don't think it belongs in the "unofficial" thread.
What I'd like to see is a more "complete" thread with the proper information like what's working/not working, screenshots, etc... and perhaps a title clearly indicating what it actually is.
I don't mind the thread but it would be more interesting if the Thread was maintained by whoever actually maintains the TF201.
That being said, thanks for the heads up. If the OP does a good job at maintaining the thread, what's the problem?
Anyone flashed this? Similar issues as the Kang with the Dock? I have yet to unlock/CMW/CM9 my tab, but will do in the next few days, curious to see how this runs...

ICS for Galaxy S II

I quote from fan page Samsung Mobile
"Samsung offers Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II
We're thrilled to announce that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be served to GALAXY S II users in the European countries including Poland, Hungary and Sweden, as well as Korea TODAY, and gradually roll out to other markets.
ICS for GALAXY Note, GALAXY S II LTE, GALAXY Tab 8.9 and 10.1 will follow soon." With this release, will the developers be able to extract the kernel source and port it to the 777?
go to General forum, "Are we getting ICS" - read and search first, always.
And no.
Thread closed in 3, 2, 1....
EDIT- Not worth the grief... I have work to do.

Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it
in a fruit salad.
Have a nice day!
Edit- Btw your smarties deters new members. Every time you hide in the bushes waiting for someone to say something naive and then jump and ridicule them, you hurt the developers. You see, new people like to donate (they appreciate the work and the help), but people like you make this a sour experience for the newcomer.
No, posting new threads when existing threads cover the same topic you're posting about hurts the developers. It means we need to waste more of our goddamn time dealing with clutter in the forums for new threads that do not justify being a new thread such as:
THERE IS ALREADY A THREAD FOR ICS DISCUSSION AND THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN COVERED THERE.
Edit: IBTL.

Manually install ice cream sandwich yet?

The official Ics has been out for the international version of the s2, and I've seen tutorials on how to install it early, but I was wondering if it was available for the i777? Or do we have to wait for AT&T to take their sweet time to release it? I've searched around the forums for this question so I would appreciate if you guys could enlighten me instead of just telling me to "search" like every other forum on the Internet. Thanks guys!

It's people like this that are making XDA a forum for lazy gimmie gimmie people. This is first and foremost a developer forum for responsible users. I'm not saying it's strictly for developers, just that people that are new here need to realize the forum was not created for THEM. it was created for developers and users that know what they are doing with their phones.

And another gone, another gone, another one bites the dust...
Thread closed. We have two ICS threads that will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about ICS.

Can we start getting some stickies going for this forum?

This forum has developed and matured with a lot of information since it's creation awhile ago. I really feel that there's a lot of basic, useful information burried in threads in here and the dev section that need to be stickied.
There's also a lot of repetitive threads that get posted which have been asked time and time again for which there are answers already existing. Collecting this knowledge together in an easy to access area would be awesome.
For instance, I just came on here to look up how to specifically do the deviceID mod to get rid of the compatibility issue in the market. I know the answer is here somewhere.. but it's going to take me a few minutes to find it when it should probably be stickied.
Anyone else feeling the same way?
I think that's a great idea. Rather than stickying a bunch of threads for all the common problems, it'd be better to compile them into a single locked thread and sticky that.
Yes, people requesting for all and nothing. I think we should do like other forums and do an index of rom(or themes, root, recovery for example)for both 4.0 and 5.0

yes that would be very helpful, everything is here is scattered
some things for 5.0us,5.0int,4.0 ..
Does the mod who can do that even view this forum? If not, he should enlist some moderators specifically for this forum who could sticky topics or compile them into a more concise list.
