It works fine on my Eris. Make you you have Voice Search and the TTS library installed. Iris relies on them.
You may also want to take a look and consider Speaktoit.

Swype Voice Input Button Coming Soon – Already Present On Samsung Galaxy S And Motorola Droid X
Is this true? Is there a way to get to voice input from the Swype keyboard? If so.... I can't find it.
Edit: I posted this to the wrong forum. Mods... Please move it to General or Development.
unfortunately the easiest way I found to do it is to press and hold on the input line, click "input mode" and then select the Android KB. Kind of a pain, but it works in a pinch.
I am curious as to where that info came from. Would that function have been removed on the T-Mobile version for some reason?
Its not on the Captivate either. But it IS on the Droid X.

Well, they have it for other phones so you could potentially pull it from another phone (such as the Droid X) and drop it onto yours
If you search, you will find posts by me detailing how to do it. I even fixed some colors to make it easier to use. You pull it from an EVO rom dump and overwrite the one on your phone. Simple. I don't feel like typing it out again.

We can't upload it. XDA has banned all Swype APKs as they got threatened by the Swype company. So you need to find it yourself. It's really not that hard, google will turn it up. It kind of sucks to have to download a ROM dump for a small file, but that's copyright for you. If you look hard enough, you should be able to find a copy of just the APK on Rapidshare or similar. It seems people post them frequently enough.
Ask the Swype people to quit being morons so we can share the files directly. Or to just release a version for the Vibrant. It's not like the phone can't support it, I use it all the time. They probably want TMobile to pay more for that feature or something like that. It would be nice if they would just put it in the Market and let users choose to pay for it themselves if they want to.

Posting swype is against XDA forum rules. I have used the above mentioned swype with both stock and oc4 kernals and not had issues. What I had to do was change the default keyboard to something other then swype, ADB push the new swype file, run the no yellow metamorph.
Hello,
I just purchased a Galaxy S II, model SHW-M250S. However, I do not think it came with the voice talk software. Does anyone know why that would be? Any way to add it to the phone (other than vlingo from the app store) I have been trying to figure it out online for a little bit now so I am posing the question to those with a lot more knowledge about phones than myself. Thank you.
You mean a voice command application? Vlingo is the closest you can get right now.
Yes voice commands. I thought the GS2 came with a "voice talk" application preloaded. In videos I have seen users just click applications and it is right but my phone lacks this.
There are three, voice talk, voice command, and voice search. Not sure what are the difference among them as they all seem to do more or less the same thing.
Sent from my phone via tap tap tap
Hmm, well I have the voice search but it just searches google. It won't open apps or let me dictate messages or anything.
You are right, I got them confused, voice search does google, but the other two more or less do the same thing. They should all be in your app drawer.
I don't think they are I wonder how it got left off the phone? Kinda disappointing. Too expensive of a phone to be missing stuff imo.
I have been searching high and low for an APK that has those, but I have not come up with anything so far... lost it when I flashed a complete WIPE custom rom... I'll be ever so thankful if anybody uploads or directs me to said APK...

Hey devs out there...
Is there a way to make the Motorola's recent cool update in the MOTO-X which they call the "TOUCH FREE XYZ" :cyclops:
Actually the device wakes up with voice commands.
Also another feature like its called the "PEEK VIEW" :silly:
Thanks.

Doesnt s-voice already do all that???
Well it does only when activated with the "double-tap home key" action.
But this thing, MOTO-X wakes up just by saying "OK GOOGLE" which takes no button actions.
Just google the MOTO-X and u'll know how it works

You probably have your settings wrong then. if the "Wake up command" option is set, you just say "Hi Galaxy" (i think you can programme it too) and it wakes up without pressing home buttons.

well yes u r right
but u again will have to say the command like may be "Start Google Now" or something like that or just anything.
But this MOTO-X from Motorola actually has 2 extra voice-cancelling microphones + the primary microphone making them all 3 which makes it easy to take commands.
And the best part is that it doesn't have any inbuilt voicecommand app (i guess) and therefore you just wake the device by saying "OK GOOGLE" which actually means it directly activates google now and we have the liberty to say just anything
Note: Am not here to market the MOTO-X coz i actually have not liked the moto products ever since am into mobiles. Its just that the features (the 2 mentioned particularly) are appealing to me and may be to others too, i hope. Moreover i just love SAMSUNG. so, eace:
I dont really remember but i happened to go thru an app in the playstore which provides the "Peek View" feature but the disapp is that it only supports the 4.3 builds.

I think most of moto x software features will come from 3rd party apps once 4.3 support APIs are implemented

Unfortunately, the always on "ok Google" Google now feature only works on Jellybean and above. There were several hacks that allowed for it to somewhat work on ICS, but had very limited functionality. As other Google components were updated some of the features that did work on the hacked version ceased functioning. It was a game of cat and mouse for awhile where the devs would come up with a work around, but then Google would disable the hack. Finally, the devs just gave up on the project and moved on. Remember, ICS is now almost 3 year's old, so next to nothing is being developed for it any more.
You can search here on xda for Google now for ICS and try out the hacked version, but as I said it has only limited capability.
I hope this helped.
Ciao

Bear in mind that with ICS and the gapps and their updates that go with ICS, you can press the "Search" soft-key or otherwise launch "Google Now", and your searcher will pop-up with the option to say, "OK Google" to your heart's content.
I understand this isn't the floating "Google Now" or availability overlayed on all screens, however it is the "OK Google" functionality.
The voice search is such a downer! it hardly works right with any of the calendar related stuff. Even one of the built in suggestions "Agenda for today" does not work when you speak it. Anyone else seeing this? My phone is a nexus 5 running latest kit kat.
In fairness it looks like google now even on my phone does not do any of this well!
