Hi, I just rooted my LG Vortex with Super One Click 2.1.1. After uninstalling some bloat ware, it just went frozen. Then I took out the battery and rebooted it. I could only see the status bar, home screen is black. After some time, the locked screen will appear, but still goes to black after I unlock it. I tried holding Power+VolDown+Home button resetting it. Home screen is still black after the account setup.
Please help!!!
do you know what apps you uninstalled? this may have happened because you deleted the launcher.
I'm sure i didn't. Just the apps found in the original application menu. Such as Verizon media store. But can i fix it?

So this is what happened in short. I used Advanced Task Killer app to kill apps to save battery. It worked well for about couple of days. I was careful in what apps to kill. But after my last boot I unintentionally killed some app/task after which i get a "blank screen".
My phone boots normally. I can view my phone screen wallpaper in my locked mode. But when I unlock my phone I get this black area below my notification bar. Only my notification bar works. The menu, home, back and search button do not trigger anything in the black screen. Incoming call is received but i cannot attend them.
I tried multiple reboots. Took off my battery, sim for a few min and booted again. The black screen wont go away. I did a backup using clockwork recovery couple of days back. The last app i installed was Lookout antivirus.
Can someone please guide me how to fix this issue
I will be out for a few hours. I will respond as soon as I'm back. Thank you
Odin back to JFD Stock, Then root and see if that resolves the issue. If it does, then reflash your rom, do not forget to make a backup and save an extra copy on the computer not the phone.
If Flashing Stock does not resolve, then it very likely to be a hardware problem.
what launcher are you using? if its anything besides the gingerbread launcher or twiz then you are probably accidentally killing the launcher you are using and thats resulting in the launcher having to reboot. be very careful with your auto kill settings or set exceptions for your launcher.
you could adb push a different launcher so when you hit home it would ask which one to use and select the new one to gain access.
Hi i resolved the issue by restoring backup. i think killing launcher pro prevented the home screen from launching. Since I could view other thing I hit the power button and then chose Recovery option. It booted in clockwork recovery and I restored a backup I did a couple of days ago and the restore fixed the issue.
Thanks for your inputs.
Hello flyer users,
This afternoon I managed to get my flyer stuck on the "Red Triangle" with "Exclamation Mark" as I was playing with "adb".
Now to get out of the dreaded screen, you do not need to remove the battery as we do with other devices - especially because, as I have been told, you CANNOT remove it.
What you need to do to leave the red triangle screen is the following:
1. Press Volume up (the "+" sign on the side) and the Power Button.
2. Select "Reboot system now"
That is it, that is you done, and your flyer reboots as normal.
Here's another tip...
I keep activating the keyboard in the notes app or hitting one of the capacitive buttons because my hand always goes down before the stylus.
I found that by putting the thumb of my offhand somewhere on the screen in a non activating area, it stops my hand from triggering the capacitive buttons and the screen. Much easier to start writing. and I don't have to worry about stuff activating if I lift the pen too high either.
-Mike
Good tip. I have the same problem with the capacitive buttons in Notes.
Random launcher reboots?
Several times today, my Flyer would go to a white screen that shows the HTC logo and restart what I belive is called the launcher. All my widgets would read "loading" and reload.
Anyone else seeing this?

Yeah I got this a few times. Usually it is due to low memory and the android OS clearing the launcher from memory... but this thing has 1GB of ram...
I read that perhaps not having the Task Manager auto-load on startup might help, as Android versions like Gingerbread don't really need a Task Manager.
I might try running without it.

But upon start up theres only about 150 megs free.
Useless tip,
If you do a long and fast swipe across the home screen, it spins through more than 1 screen. I never noticed this before today
Here is another saver.
The FriendStream widget for some unknown reason would not show all the usual text in twitter and facebook posts.
I tried to recover or repopulate it by rebooting the device, tried re-sync, nothing was doing.
SOLUTION was deleting the widget, and then putting it back on its homescreen, and everything was back.
I had feared I lost my twitter and facebook messages.
Had to laugh at this one! Thanks Useless tip,

Alright so I just got a Samsung Fascinate through a trade here on XDA and everything seemed to be in working order...except for the actual software in the phone. For one, the home button doesn't take me home, it simply takes me to a blank screen. I can pull down the notification bar and everything...but I can't get home to actually access and apps or anything. The only way I can access anything is when I hold down the home button to get most recent apps.
I've tried multiple times to hard reset..battery pulls..everything. Someone please help me out. I contacted the previous owner of the phone and he said you just have to press the home button a little harder...that didn't work.
It obviously works because it takes me to a blank screen and allows me to access the most recent apps..but it won't actually take me home.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance guys
Considering the Hines button is capacitive, pushing harder does nothing.
Is the phone rooted or stock?
If stock, try to Odin fresh stock. If rooted, try a different rom
Try installing a different launcher such as Adw, launcher pro or zeam to see if the problem goes away.
Now it does have a crack, but I don't think thats the problem because when I press it it still takes me to a blank screen so it must work.
And he gave me those options..and said it was semi-rooted? Considering I just came fresh from a Moto Droid I really know nothing about the process. Is Odin like SBF? I just want to have the phone in its original state to see if I even like it first..

I would second this suggestion. Often, launchers can have individual settings for what the home button does (i.e., with Go Launcher EX, the home button can be set to take you to your home screen, and if already on your home screen, pressing the home button will open up a shortcut, app, preview homescreens, etc.). So, by installing another launcher, it my clear away whatever setting is on the phone you got (i.e., launching a blank screen). Another option would be to go into your Setting > Manage Applications, and find your default launcher. Open it, and then "Clear Defaults."
Alright I got it to work by restoring completely with odin and changing the home screen launcher.
Thanks guys! It's much appreciated
Sometimes when I go to the stock launcher, I just get my wallpaper.
The screen is totally blank and I cannot access my home screen or the app launcher.
Has this happened to anyone else?
I have two Archos Android tablets that do that regularly. They do recover after some 10s of seconds. The Archos tablets are rather weak in the CPU department, which I think causes their hanging lags getting back to the home screen. My Prime never does that. Do you have some odd non-default settings or possibly some big nasty animated wallpaper? Could you have some application running in the background hogging a lot of resources?
I'd be tempted to perform a factory reset and reinstall all my apps. I basically did that when I upgraded from my original Transformer to my Prime. Amazon and the Android Marketplace had all my stuff, so it was not such a big deal.
Bye.

This was happening to me when I had the ASUS Task Manager widget running. I'd swipe to the screen that had it running and Launcher would crash. Then all home screens would go blank and I'd need to force close the Launcher to get things back to normal.
I removed the Task Manager widget, and mine hasn't done it since. So, if you have that widget running, you might try getting rid of it.
Hey all,
Just got my new OnePlusX and the first time I turned it on it prompted all the set up screens. I had to skip through them all because the keyboard would not stay open. It would open and then immediately minimize. Not a great start but no problem, I'll add my accounts and connect to wifi later.
Once I get into the 'home screen' I could see my status bar at the top but no icons and no way to access the app draw. I pressed the capacitive buttons and opened the notification slider which both worked and eventually got into the play store. From here I installed an app or two and got prompted to do a system update, which I did.
After the update I was hoping my launcher would work.. it didn't. The home screen is a black screen with the status bar at the top and no icons - the home button seems to do nothing when I'm in an app and press it.
I installed a third party launcher which worked - I now have a home screen and app draw. However, after opening an app, it crashes after a second or two (chompSMS does this as well as messenger, phone and contacts which are stock apps).
Does anyone have any information about this, what can I do here?
I know one option might be flashing a custom rom but being a brand new phone that should most definitely not be something I have to do to be able to call and message people..
Update: I ran a factory reset and all problems seemed to be resolved now. Not sure what was going on but I guess something happened that a reboot couldn't fix. I'll leave this post in case it helps others.
Have you done a factory reset after the system update??

Yep factory reset fixed it, thanks!
