I just received my X10i today and rooted it and installed xrecovery. I tried installing CM7.1.0 FXP042 but the kernel wouldn’t flash through flashtool. I’ve included a part of the log below. I thought it might be a driver issue since it flashed twice to unlock the boot, so I used USBDeview to remove all instances of SEMC from the computer which is running Windows 7 64bit and let all of the drivers be reacquired. Still a no go. I am used to installing kernels and roms in Clockworkmod recovery and am wondering if I can flash the kernel and FXP042 through xrecovery? Any help would be appreciated as I really miss CM7 and Blue Honeycomb 3D. Thanks.

Have you unlocked your bootloader?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Yes, I have root. Superuser and Busybox, etc.
From the log you posted, it looks like you have'nt unlocked your bootloader. You have to follow this to unlock your bootloader, before trying to install CM7.1.0. I interpret what you wrote as having root, but not unlocking your bootloader.

Thank you. You are correct. Bootloader is locked. Having just received the phone yesterday and purchasing it as an unlocked sim phone, I am not familiar with X10's. I looked through the link, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254087 and had a question. I ran the S1 tool and got the result below. Does that mean that I can use the above procedure to unlock boot, or because there is no certificate number listed, that the phone doesn’t have a SEMC certificate and that I can’t use this method. Also, the kernel link is Doomkernel v05-FS which should be good enough I would think because I’ll get Overlock when I flash CM7. Please give input and suggestions.

This is what I want to use to unlock the bootloader, but since I did read the thread, I want to have positive verification that I indeed do have a simlock certificate so that I don't lose the radio, screw(sic) up the phone and have to post a plea asking how to unbrick it. I did not sim unlock it, for all I know it was a factory unlocked phone, but thats the point; I don't know and I prefer facts and data to speculation and assumption. Thanks for your input though.
Alternate method to unlock bootloader is this.

Hello guys,
Not a native speaker, so please oversee any mistakes.
I looked for a thread/post that could help me solve this in advance but did not find the answer, so I hope I'm right here. If not, I'm grateful for a hint.
Wanted to root my Xperia Neo (M15i), now I've been struggling with several problems for 2 days. Previous history:
I downloaded a Root pack for my device from a (reliable and serious) German website www.chip.de and followed their descriptions. After downgrading from 2.3.4. to 2.3.2., the "0% battery" issue accured which should be known by most of you already. Removing the battery for several minutes didn't solve it.
So I found an according workaround on XDA how to solve this problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312398
I also followed the instructions there. To be able to solve the battery issue, I had to unlock the bootloader which seemingly worked on my phone.
As the boot.img (boot.img.4.0.2.A.0.42.neo), according to that thread, has to match the according firmware, I had to install the according .ftf file (MT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42_Global).
Now to my actual problem:
I am stuck at point 4 of the instruction on that thread:
With the X10 Flashtool (current version 0.7.1.0., all drivers installed), I've been trying to flash the firmware - but as soon as I choose the .ftf file and try to flash it within split seconds a notification appears "Flash canceled" (USB debugging activated, unkwnown sources allowed on my phone).
Here is the log from Flashtool:
20/051/2012 16:51:48 - INFO - <- This level is successfully initialized

you're doing the flash of firmware wrongly first you have to set all the configurations and then conect the phone in flash mode flashtool will give you the instructions of how to do it first click the lightning icon select flash mode then choose your firmware click OK then a window will appear with instructions and follow them and that's it
hit thank if this help you
Thanks - but I had already tried that before, too. Even if the phone's not yet connected and I choose the firmware with Flashtool before connecting the phone, it's still the same thing. It immediately tells me "Flash canceled". According log underneath:

Try with older version of flashtool.
That's exactly what I did just a moment ago - I used Flashboot version 0.6.9.1 and now it worked. Thanks, thread is closed!
Im using flashtool on linux to unlock the bootloader on my x10mp.

does this mean the BL cannot be unlocked on my phone? or am I doing something wrong?
the "drivers" folder in the flashtool installation is empty.
also, when I click Help->Check Drivers it shows:

Have u tried looking for a tutorial on XDA? They actually work too. I succesfully did it. If u do, be sure to read every step carefully!

tnx.
I've followed these tutorials:
http://i-amhereforyou.blogspot.co.il/2012/06/unlock-bootloader-for-xperia.html
the current flashtool should be able to unlock the BL all by itself. it detects my phone but fails to unlock it.
I've checked the date number under the battery and its says "11W10" so the phone should be ok for unlocking the BL.
any suggestions?
TIA

Hello,
I'm attempting to unlock the bootloader on a Xperia Mini Pro U20i using a program called Flashtool. When i connect the device to the computer in Flashmode, it tells me that the device is connected, but then it disconnects several seconds later saying that USB debugging is off. USB debugging is enabled on the phone. I don't understand what i am doing wrong. All the correct drivers are installed. Please, can somebody help me.

But if you have luck there's no need to create a new thread on that topic because a moderator could move this thread to the other forum. You are able to request that by clicking on the orange triangle in the upper right corner of your post and write a short message to the mod and ask him to move the thread. I'll do that for you now, but you know it for the next time then
Btw for your problem check this. Are you sure you disabled your antivirus program and you did the factory reset?

Do i actually need to unlock the bootloader or can i just go ahead and root the phone? If i could it would make things much, much easier. On my Nexus 7 you had to unlock the bootloader first, but i just wondered whether things would be any different on this device?

No need to unlock the bootloader in order to root the device.. Just press the 'root' button in flashtool and follow the instructions. You only need to unlock the bootloader to flash custom kernels on this phone.

Okay, so basically i need to root in order to install a custom ROM then? (Because custom ROMS change the kernel). Then reason i want root access is because the old Android Market on 2.1 doesn't seem to work anymore, so by installing the Android 4.3 ROM i can use the new Google Play store instead. At the moment i cannot download any apps on the phone whatsoever. Google Play is not compatible with Android 2.1 so i guess a ROM upgrade is the only option i have?

Not sure if the market app is completely dead for 2.1, it's been a while since i used it. On this device though, the kernel is never included in the ROM. You can either choose a ROM that runs on stock kernel, in which case you don't need to unlock the bootloader, or choose one that needs a custom kernel (for 2.3 android that would be nAa-14), in which case you do need the bootloader unlociked. You will need to root your phone in both cases though.
It sounds complicated maybe more so than on other phones, but it's the way it is, and once you're used to it, it's not such a hassle.
