AP Mobile is using high amount of DATA - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I didn't think much about data usage until last week when I checked my AT&T account and noticed that I was already 50% through my allocated 2GB data limit. I've been mostly on WIFI since the device was activated and the few times that I was on 3G/HSPA was during my 30 minute lunch breaks. It didn't make much sense considering I've had no time to mess around with the phone (aside from tweaking the widgets and checking my e-mails).
Anyways, fast forward a few days and after installing data manager, I discovered that AP Mobile (Stock TW widget) had used over 500MB+ of data. :-/ Apparently, I'm not alone. A quick glance at other forums and websites confirmed that AP Mobile was notorious for using heavy amount of data. It may not be an issue with users with unlimited data but to us fellow mortals, every megabyte counts.
As of this post, I have rooted the phone and have deleted the APK to insure the ninja application will never use data again!
An alternate solution is to modify the widget setting to 'never' update but I have not confirmed whether you must remove then re-add the widget before making the changes.

That's why I love Unlimited.

Unless you also have unlimited battery, it won't help.
High amount of data usage = high battery drain.

I've got a mobile external battery that can charge my phone for 2 power cycles from 0 to 100. So basically, I kinda do have unlimited battery too.

I had the same issue with AP Mobile. Basically AT&T and Samsung were no help at all. Had to root and freeze app. I've tried just about everything... outlined here: http://www.allankintz.com/2011/10/18/my-android-data-problem/

I'm surprised more people are not having this issue.

As far as I know I'm free of this problem only because I never opened the widget..which I'm glad I didn't lol

'Android System' draining battery fast!

Today I got almost 2 hours of on screen time before I hit 3% after 9 hours. So I look in battery in settings and Android System is #1 at 57%! Then screen at 20%' followed by cell standby at 9%.
What is causing android system to take up 57% and cause barely 2 hour on screen time?
I had this issue too! after a reboot i havent had this issue agin
check what google services you have auto syncing. aka g+ calender and contacts those can make it really bad.

An app that misbehaves: Sync's data or runs in the background when you are not using it, wakes device during sleep (wakelock) and performs background operations. This could be any app or game you download, usually it is more common in free apps with unknown developers....make sure to check reviews before downloading.
It seems like the restart fixed it. After restart android system is 4th place at only 6%.
Its doing it again today. 67% of battery is android system.
Any help?

Mobile data has been killing the battery on my AT&T Galaxy S3. I can always tell because it gets warm even with the screen off. The only way I can stop the drain is to turn off mobile data which is not a long-term fix. I can't understand why some days I get amazing battery life, and some days I get a few hours only.
Use juice defender, I've used it for years, it turns off mobile data when the screen is off and re enables it on a schedule you set. It's the only long term fix I have found. Since calls and texts come through 2g this should fix your problem.

Battery Life

I don't understand why I'm getting such awful battery life; I've heard such good things about AOSP as far as battery life is concerned. I've got screen on auto, and I used incredicontrol to set my governor (I think that's what it is called) to conservative. Can anyone help me dissect the problem?

How long was your screen on? If 1.5 hours or so, I would say your close to normal depending on what you were doing.
Get Better Battery Stats and see how long your phone is in Deep Sleep..and if not very long, you can see what is keeping it awake..
I didn't use it at all; I checked it after first block and it had lost about 10 percent. Then I checked it after second and that's what it was at

Your pic says the screen took 44% of the power. Consider the signal strength in your school. If you have a weak signal the phone uses more power. Maybe try airplane mode for part of the day. Also, I have found I get better battery life on the network as opposed to my school's wireless. The school's wireless is always polling the phone resulting in greater drain.
Here's the link to Better Battery Stats on XDA... FREE XDA versions are found at the bottom of post #2. I/We don't have your phone so other than general statements we are of little help. Get BBS and see what is using the juice...that's how I found out the school's wireless was waking my phone all the time.

well from what i see you have google now or some transit app running. those tend to take up a ton of battery. use the bettery battery stats that someone posted and see whats running. once you find out you can use an app like autostarts to keep stuff like that not running when it doesnt need to.
Also another way to tell whats running is to go to settings > apps > running. if you see a process you dont like running just kill it and try to stop it with autostarts. I know from experience that facebook is one of these pain in the a$$ apps that always wants to be running for some god forsaken reason. Anyway just start with that. thats probably your main problem as i can also see you have juice defender, which is probably helping battery.
There wasn't a download for it; only someone's text information. Does anyone have an APK for it? I don't have the money for it Before school starts tomorrow I'll be sure to kill running apps. Also, I wasn't on the school's Wi-Fi at any point because we don't have Wi-Fi, my high school is poor. Lol

autostart app won't run in foreground so you don't have to kill it. it'll stop access as it needs to based on what you disabled from automatically starting. be careful what you prevent from starting up cause it can defect your setup requiring a fresh flash install
This is my battery life just a few minutes before I posted it yesterday; I took it off the charger at the same time. For some reason yesterday the android system ran much longer than today; the difference is obvious on my battery life.

the 3 best things to do is keeping brightness down/off whenever possible, using better battery stats to monitor partial wakelocks and keeping apps from running too long in the foreground

A good thing to do would be, charge it Friday night, take it off the charger Saturday morning and let it sit on the counter of 1 hour, preferably 2 hours, then check to see what has been waking it up. You can google what you find to determine what process they're related to if not obvious to you.

No, you're doing it wrong.

Obvious total noob here. I've read all the thunderbolt reference material here and have followed a couple of tutorials on how to root my thunderbolt, but I keep finding broken mirrors. I just keep finding dead ends. Can someone point me to a current root method for this device. My goal is to try the leaked ICS rom. Thanks.
The closest I got was with revolution.
It did see my device and I was on the last step but it seemed like my rom was not compatible. There was a nice video and followed all the steps.

Welcome to the rooted club! I just joined this week myself.
I hadn't seen the all in one tool but I think I'll snag it. Revolutionary worked great for me. The only thing I had to do was temp root since I was running the .19 ROM. It was smooth sailing after that.
I'm running SkyRaider 1.3 now. I'll probably flash to ICS next month after playing with SR for a bit.
What has SR been like for you?

So far I'm digging it. It's been considerably faster and seemingly more reliable than stock. The past two years have been hateful and I wish I would have rooted a long time ago.
I'm still trying to figure out what things have changed (like what new options I have and where to find some things) but it's been a fairly easy ride. I did have to flash twice to get it to work but now it seems to be solid.

Sounds like a battery. I typically charge overnight and I'm good from about 7-4. Then I charge on the 30 min drive home and I'm good until the nightly charge. I've never seen exceptional battery life even with JuiceDefender. Right now it's bad but not quite like yours. I was on a third-party battery, though. I just swapped to the HTC battery and I'll see how it is. I think I'm going to turn JD off as well to see how SkyRaider managers on its own.

This was typical for me.
I recommend turning off 4G. It's not really useful anyways unless you're trying to download something. Calibrate the battery also. Turn down your screen brightness and backlight timing. Also adjust how often accounts sync. Slow your CPU speeds.
You should be set after that.

Yeah, I only use 4G if I'm doing file transfers or tethering. I need to look at underclocking. How often do you sync? I have a number of accounts that I check every 15 min. I could probably increase that to 30.

Some of these are apps you can change within the apps settings, such as Facebook. I usually sign on before it syncs anyways.

You need to realize the stock battery is only 1450. So very small for a 4g phone. I have found juice defender only made my wallet lighter. You might want to look in to an aosp ROM as it gives you better battery life. I personally disable auto sync and turn off GPS. Also while I am at work I disable data as SMS and MMS doesn't come over mobile data part. In the end some people carries more than one battery on them if they won't be in a place they can charge.

I tried it but uninstalled it rather quickly. I didn't even have it installed long enough to tell how much difference it made.
After it got out of its "learning" phase, it consistently turned off my GMail push notifications, despite telling it not to, and turned my wifi on all the time. I was getting 2 days of battery life with the phone without the app, so I figured it wasn't worth the effort for me.

What exactly is bad about the wifi control? Does turning off at night stop you from getting notifications (ie. email)?
I actually prefer to be on wifi since I'm on a limited shared plan.

I actually just leave wifi on.. maybe that's why I only get 3 hours of screen time versus other people who get 4 or 5..
I uninstalled it a couple minutes ago lol. Makes my Google Now notifications that tell me when to leave like an hour late. Not cool :crying:
Not to mention how annoying it is to connect to the WiFi at my local McDonalds because it's called "dlink," the default name, which makes my phone "learn" to connect to every dlink. Ugh.
Mine has been in learning mode for like 2 weeks now... I don't know what the deal is... Doesn't really seem to be doing anything at all if you ask me.

When I turn on WiFi, data connection is grey out.
I remembered reading here that Download Booster interfere with WiFi calling. May be you have it turn on?
