[Q] Issues - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Hi, I am considering buying the GS5. Does it have any issues? Last time I bought a Galaxy Note 3 from AT&T, the GPS was awful from start to finish. I just need to be aware of issues with this phone, thanks.

Not really...the only slight problem is with all Samsung phones and that is it creaks a bit

I've had a lot of battery issues with mine and many are praising the 4-5 day battery life that i've never been able to obtain. I only get about a day maybe 1.5

My co-worker has a Verizon s5 and his lasted 9 days on a battery with less than 10% left.
I saw the battery statistics with my own eyes.
So what the F#$* is wrong with these phones? Some do well and others don't? I've been through one replacement already, 3 batteries which said OEM (Ebay buy in USA) and have one on the way tomorrow.
I absolutely love android, and I love Iphone too and this is mountains better in battery life compared to my iphone but Knox and the wierd androidOS/system usage probably related to CarrierIQ are huge downers for me

Does he have an extended battery? No way this phone lasts for 9 days unless he uses it 5 minutes a day or something.

I made my return to T-Mobile and got the S5. Black 16 GB, but smaller than my Note 3 capacity, but still a good phone. Going to pick it up tomorrow after a system issue that wouldn't let me pay .

may be he used the ultra power saving mode, battery can last that long if used that mode.

Battery cover issues, wifi calling issues. Besides that good phone. Nothing like my gs3 which was the best phone I've owned. A bit disappointed in this one.

I saw it with my own eyes! Normal use. I'm unknown on usage, I got a new battery today.... Hopefully that solves my issues.

Weird that WiFi calling causes issues with text. I wonder why. Never tried and had issues with it. When I turn on the WiFi though it still shows data connection right next to it. Is that normal?

AP Mobile is using high amount of DATA

I didn't think much about data usage until last week when I checked my AT&T account and noticed that I was already 50% through my allocated 2GB data limit. I've been mostly on WIFI since the device was activated and the few times that I was on 3G/HSPA was during my 30 minute lunch breaks. It didn't make much sense considering I've had no time to mess around with the phone (aside from tweaking the widgets and checking my e-mails).
Anyways, fast forward a few days and after installing data manager, I discovered that AP Mobile (Stock TW widget) had used over 500MB+ of data. :-/ Apparently, I'm not alone. A quick glance at other forums and websites confirmed that AP Mobile was notorious for using heavy amount of data. It may not be an issue with users with unlimited data but to us fellow mortals, every megabyte counts.
As of this post, I have rooted the phone and have deleted the APK to insure the ninja application will never use data again!
An alternate solution is to modify the widget setting to 'never' update but I have not confirmed whether you must remove then re-add the widget before making the changes.
That's why I love Unlimited.

Unless you also have unlimited battery, it won't help.
High amount of data usage = high battery drain.

Your battery is okay. You probably turned your screen too bright or viewing your screen in bright environment. Leaving brightness in auto give slightly more than 2 hours screen time with 3G and push all on.
Facebook sync it's probably your major problem

Battery drain might be bcoz of Jelly bean update itself. I've had my S3 for three months, battery lasted me for 2 days until I updated to jellybean. Now 5 % goes every hour even without using it. I'm sure an update will come out to fix this
If you are still using stock mod, have you removed any bloatware? Take a look in Apps/Running Apps to see weather or not your battery drain is being caused by unwanted/unused applications.

I'm not saying his screen shot isn't real it's just I don't trust people's screen shots as I can take a screen shot of up to 50 hours by basically plugging in my phone and not letting it reach 100% then unplugging it back to 20% then back to 80% and so on.
I'd love to have 18 hours at 50% by playing games and using internet and making calls and other uses but don't think that's possible.

This is because you have wifi/data off when the screen is off.

Nothing in your first post stated that my screen shot was fake, even if you did, your statement would still be wrong.
Also if I was an idiot to do what you would,(In bold). The graph in my first screen shot wouldn't be decreasing from (start, finish). It would have shown spikes of increasing.
I think you just really need to read better, and stop assuming everyone lie about their battery screen shots.
There's no point for most others and I to do that,
I posted my screen shots with a simple intention to help OP to achive better battery life on his SGS3.
As I know the phone has the potential.
Thus the reason I stated "using latest wanam lite with persus kernal".
Then you chime in with all these non sense.
I know I have probably wasted 5 minutes of my time writing this as you probably will just ignore the facts.
But as you are a senior member on XDA so please,
The least contribution you can make is by not plaguing XDA with false information and negativity.
People like you make us lose faith in humanity.

Well maybe when you post screen shots you can explain what you used it for instead of just posting a screen shot and going away.
More information is more helpful and will give people a more understanding.
I've seen people in here boasting and showing screen shots of 35 hours but giving no information of how, what battery they used or how they used their phone or what settings they used and when I asked got no reply.
Your screen shot didn't really show much to be honest other than you used a custom Rom.
Lastly I never said yours was fake but just wanted more information.

Its not 18 hours at 50% but its certainly possible to achieve good battery life playing games and using Internet etc.
See screen shots below.

Media looks high to me on your screenshot. You may have the media server wake lock draining battery.
As a temporary solution force close the media server. It should be OK until you reboot. Then you will need to close it again.
Some people (myself included) have had success in overcoming this by formatting the external SD.
Good luck

Maybe I'm not doing enough to drain my battery, seem to be getting excellent life without a battery app...or could be because I'm comparing to my Thunderbolt! Lol
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
I tried it but uninstalled it rather quickly. I didn't even have it installed long enough to tell how much difference it made.
After it got out of its "learning" phase, it consistently turned off my GMail push notifications, despite telling it not to, and turned my wifi on all the time. I was getting 2 days of battery life with the phone without the app, so I figured it wasn't worth the effort for me.
re
I have been using it for 5 days and I agree, it works fairly well besides WiFi. Any savings seem to be offset by the constant turning on. Try putting a WiFi widget on your homescreen and manually controlling WiFi, and let the app do everything else.

What exactly is bad about the wifi control? Does turning off at night stop you from getting notifications (ie. email)?
I actually prefer to be on wifi since I'm on a limited shared plan.
I have been using it for over a month and have had no issues with wifi. I usually finish the day with over 60% battery left. That is 13 hours before i put it on the charger.

big difference prior to using the app?
I actually just leave wifi on.. maybe that's why I only get 3 hours of screen time versus other people who get 4 or 5..
I uninstalled it a couple minutes ago lol. Makes my Google Now notifications that tell me when to leave like an hour late. Not cool :crying:
Not to mention how annoying it is to connect to the WiFi at my local McDonalds because it's called "dlink," the default name, which makes my phone "learn" to connect to every dlink. Ugh.
Mine has been in learning mode for like 2 weeks now... I don't know what the deal is... Doesn't really seem to be doing anything at all if you ask me.

It sounds like your phone is trying to stay connected to Wi-Fi when you're out of range. Mine disconnects and reconnects when I am out of or in range and I don't notice any extra battery drain.

Updated to KitKat, battery life sucks

Updated OTA to kitkat this morning on my Verizon Note 2. Already the battery life has taken a big hit, just as I feared. Google Play Services and Android system are now using major battery, whereas they werent before. I loved my Note 2, but will definitely be switching back to an iPhone 5s in a few weeks unless I can figure out how to fix the battery life with kitkat or downgrade back down to JB.
Same here. Also my 4g LTE speeds have tanked (5-10 times slower).

you and I are very much in the same boat. I had a Note 10.1 2014 edition tablet that was simply AWESOME. Very fast and great battery life. Then came the Kitkat update...sucked all the life out of it. Things improved after I rooted and disabled tons of things, but it is still not as good as it once was...
Seems like these days every Google product just gets worse. I used to love Android Navigation, it stored your previously found destinations and you could easily navigate back and forth. Then they merged it with Maps. Now it sucks.
Try making sure Google now and that "ok Google" crap is off. That was killing me on KK. ALSO, make sure under your wifi settings Google isn't set to search for wifi even with wifi turned off.
