I had android with a droidX about a year back and original loved the platform, but I switched out for an Iphone 4 for the apps. Now that most of the apps I use everyday are ported over to android, i think i might pick up a thunderbolt on the cheap to try out android again. If i like it, i'll pick up a galaxy nexus when my contract runs up , if not , i'll bank my upgrade and wait for the iphone 5.
What would you do. Do you think android has changed in the pass year and is worth making a trip back for? I really like the way iphone can handle ms exchange. I remember having such a hassle with touchdown last time around.

I think android has come a very long way in the past year, and will only get better. Even f you don't like the thunderbolt, you'd love he galaxy nexus. From the videos I've seen of it... There are no words to describe it lol. Besides, most any app you could want that the iPhone has, android probably has it, or maybe even something better these days.

bringing up the thunderbolt and iphone is like comparing 2 different sports teams and you know how loyal & crazy fans can get.
seriously though, both are solid OS' and offer their own way of functioning. Before I had an android phone I was on windows mobile up till I got my HD2. I had ipod touches on the side and thought they were cool, but it wasn't until I got my first android(a mytouch slide) rhat I decided that I'm sticking with android and that's that. it was kind of weird adjusting to it at first but once you realize the potential & support of the android system/community how can you go with anything else? I wouldn't mind having an ipod touch again for music purposes, but I can't see myself getting an iphone.
that and iphone is still 3G & supposedly apple doesn't like where 4G is right now and says they probably wont incorporate 4G into the iphone 5 either.
p.s. siri isn't all that great either.
I have an iPhone 4 in one pocket and Thunderbolt in the other pocket. I do that so I can keep my personal phone and work stuff seperate. Is be glad to answer the specific questions you have. I like both of them, they each have their strong points. The iPhone 4 and iOS runs quite smooth, hardly ever does anything similar to a force close and doesn't ever freeze up, stuff like that. But with Android you have control over every feature and its settings. Phone customization options are endless. I would say that if you like to tinker and be able to dig around and do anything you want to your phone, Android fits that need perfect. If you want a smooth, great running OS without ever tweaking a thing, and reliability, stick with the iPhone.
Hardware wise, screen size is a big deal to some people. Some like the real estate, but then again others don't like how big it is to carry/hold. The iphone has better fit and finish I think, small things like button feel after a few months of use are much better on the iPhone. But they have the advantage of only having one model to focus on for things like this. Android makers have so many different options available so they don't get to spend as much time/resources on a single phone.
Also, the ability to flash roms and make so many UI tweaks on Android allows you to turn your phone into something completely different any time you want.
Last week I was bored and wanted to mix things up, so i switched over from sense 3.0 to sense 3.5. I'm someone who likes to tinker. I drag race, build hot rods and show trucks, and like to fix broken stuff. The ability to change up the interface totally is a wonderful option, and personally a big "pro" for me.
Let me know what else I can answer for you.

Like what was already said before. The galaxy nexus is an amazing device. Android as an OS is an absolute powerhouse. Iphones are always going to be behind the curve from this point on.

I guess its also important for you to tell us what apps do you use most often on iOS and we can offer examples of what's available on Android, if anything to equivalate them. Since that seems to have been the main reason you originally switched.
From what I understand, if games are your primary goal, the iOS still has a good advantage, but the screen is significantly smaller. For just about everything else, it seems Android either is on par or exceeds iOS alternatives.

And yes - I imagine that going from teh Thunderbolt to the Nexus will be comparable from going from the Aveo to the Corvette.
I mean they are both running Chevy - but one is going to be a complete different experience than the other.
that's a stylin' Aveo. you got me sold sir! that'd be some fun donut'ing in the dirt.

HAHA I would get the Aveo just to run the wheels off of it like it were a go-cart. That reminds me of when I was young and had a Chevette... I wore the emergency brake out on that little car. haha

CharliesTheMan is correct in his observation.
My wife has the iPhone 4S and I have a Thunderbolt and Droid Charge. The 4S is perfect for what my wife wants. It doesn't have a lot to be confusing and it just works without problem. The phone doesn't get in the way of doing what you want to do; it is just smooth and quickly works without any hesitation.
The Thunderbolt and Charge on the other-hand are customized and overclocked how I like it. I am a 'tinkerer' too. I've got my TB running Synergy ROM with the Sense 3.5 and it is simply awesome. Sure, I have an occasional hickup with an app or ROM sometimes but I have the knowledge to fix the problem and go on; not everyone wants a phone like that, including my wife.
So, the choice really isn't to get an iPhone 4S or an Android phone but the choice is what type of user are you? Do you like to have options or simplicity? But then again, I guess you can Jailbreak the iPhone for a change. LOL
My wife wanted a white iphone 4 when we switched to verizon. She had it for 2 days before we exchanged it for a thunderbolt.
Internet browsing was faster on the thunderbolt in full site comparisons. My wife also didn't like dealing with itunes for all music and videos.
Find one for cheap and play around. Only problem is if you go back and forth from the iphone to the Bolt, you will probably have to get a new sim everytime you switch to the Bolt.

Im curios to know how many people will take back their Evo 3D if no root method is found within their first 30 days. Im still debating myself, but I think this may be a way of getting Sprints attention. If there is a significant number of people who threaten to take theirs back, maybe Sprint will put the heat on HTC too.
I've threatened to but I am not sure that I will. Rooted or not this phone is ridiculously sick and I am having way too much fun with the 3D feature! I remain confident that HTC will get this done, perhaps with the 2.3.4 update.
You'd have to take it from me!
(Please don't take it from me!)
I won't. I like it fine now. Root would, of course, make it better.
I LOVED my EVO 4G, rooted with Myn's ROM Picked up the 3VO on Friday, was not super blown away at first, but now three days later, it is a more mature and refined EVO 4G, polished up in all the right places, and overall a better device. I like it over my ogEVO for sure, but it's not night and day better.
But seeing the reviews of the Galaxy S2, makes me think 99% I will go for that when it comes out. I am a sucker for the Super AMOLED+ screen, just go to an ATT store, check out the Infuse 4G, it uses the same screen tech, and instant boner looking at that beauty, the colors are jaw dropping, and viewing angles perfect.
Plus the Galaxy S2 is super ****ing thin, I am sucker for razor thin phones, they look so much more futuristic to me. And the design of it being an all black thin slab, just looks so cool. When Sprint gets it, it will be hard to resist.

Lets fact it not that many people will return this phone to have the impact you are looking for; the fact is it is not just a good phone it is a stellar. Even without root, this phone is one of if not the best on the market right now. I won’t get hung up on the root for now because I am sure either, HTC or the community will unlock the device.
I'm still debating as well if I should go back to the Evo 4G or stay. I do love all the new features, design, and speeds...but mess my rooted apps. I would also like to add some lockring and battery mods. I had a rooted Evo 4G with Sense 2.1 + 3.0 already (MikGv2.4) and mess the mods and themes. Hopefully HTC gives out the bootloader soon. If they do, then I'm definitely staying with my Evo 3D.

x2 on that new Samsung coming out... It seems very tempting to make the trade if HTC doesn't unlock these phones. I'm not really concerned with 3D. It's a cool 'wow' factor to friends but I personally don't really use it on my own. I guess when it gets closer to time for the new one to come out, I will make my decision then... Right now I'm leaning more toward sticking with HTC.

+1...I am SUPER impressed with this phone overall. The 3D turned out not to be too gimmicky, but rather awesome.
Love it but it will go back if no root.

Learned this lesson a long time ago: never buy anything on a promise! I for one will not return it whether it gets root or not. I'll have a LOT more respect for HTC if they do unlock it, but me personally, I bought it knowing it was going to be locked. The "talk on the net" about HTC unlocking it via an OTA update is/was always just heresay. I also have confidence that whether they unlock it or not, eventually someone will pwn it.

3vo. That is all that needs be said.
I will stick with it. I am very satisified with the improvements root or not and i do not see anything much better coming out for quite some time. After testing many different android phones I can say this one has the best battery and features and i have tried many out from the G1, mytouch, hero, droid, evo4g, epic, thunderbolt, nexus s 4g. No phone is by any means perfect out of the box. It all comes down to if it works for you and gets you through the day.
27 days & counting. It is a great phone & a nice improvement from the original Evo but I can't see going any significant time without root. Plus I pretty much had my eye set on the GSII anyway. Figured I wouldn't loose anything from trying this out for at least 30 days.

mine went back today. too many little issues aside from locked bootloader.
and btw... sprint is trying to charge existing customers $35 restocking fee to return the EVO3D. you can get it credited back if you know who to call and ask for it
Only a few hours in but it already seems like a keeper to me. I like the improvements made and the only thing I miss so far is the hotspot unlocked. Even without root it's a really good phone so far. Kinda like the Evo's big brother.
Root will happen its just a matter of when. I got the phone Friday and i got to admit I was somewhat let down. After having it all weekend and it now being monday, I will not be going back to 4G. The 4G phone was probably one of the most enjoyable phones I have ever owned. Not 1 single complaint about it. But this phone has so much more potential. There are a few things I don't like such as charging port location, no seperate hdmi, but I can live with it. This phone is definately more advanced than the og evo. And i will always have a place in my heart for my beloved 4G but i am keeping this one.

And Engadget posted THESE pics
I don't know if they are purposely NOT focusing, or WTF their problem is, but if this superphone has such a ****ty camera, I might keep swaying to the Razr even with a locked BL. The Nexus doesn't even have a HDMI port.. there were a few other key points that kinda brought it back down to earth for me. I guess I should feel like an iPhone 4 customer who was hoping for the iPhone 5? lol
Sort of agree, however engadget did post a few more focused pics on that post however I sort of agree, but I don't think its been a deal breaker for me, I used a Nexus S for a while and it is quite impressive how speedy it is considering its older. I think google designing the OS around that phone really improves the quality plus you can be reassured you'll get updates. I would definitely still go with it...
I like the luxury of HDMI though too. The portability of taking video with me and playing it on the big screen. I don't understand why the Nexus wouldn't have one, being that it is sort of old tech now. I hate the fact that the Razr launches with 2.3.5, but the big name ROMs I would assume will follow the phone, especially the guys working on the X2 and Bionic being as they wouldn't have to change much. The Razr is on the block to get ICS no sooner than 6 weeks after the Galaxy Nexus launch. So I would assume 3 months, if moto is going to "blur" it again. I might just have to sit back and wait it out a few more weeks on my X2. No reason to make a hasty decision and pre-order a phone I am going to be pissed off about.
I just wanted to post these pics as a reference. I didn't do anything special to my pics, they were literally consecutive, point, shoot, upload. Unless the person using the device was spinning in circles like a jackass, that sensor doesn't look great at all to me. Not to mention, the pics are not WS shots. I use the phone as my primary camera, there is no reason to have 2 devices now-a-days unless you are a pro and want top quality SLR pics. Maybe Google is trying to keep the development of 4.0 cheap and give manufacturers a good starting platform? Like minimum OS specs?

As far as HDMI goes I've really never used it, I'm on the X2 as well, I think I would use it more if the X2 had webtop as that is pretty slick but other than that I have never even plugged in a cable to mine, but I do understand where you're coming from with that.
As far as camera goes I agree it is a bit disappointing they used a 5mp instead of the typical 8 of these days but apparently its a really nice 5; which could be gimmicky or it could be a legit step up, I mean as far as mp count goes I don't think that really means much these days unless you're shooting pictures for bill boards. Some of the pictures on the engadget post were a lot better but some of them were entirely disappointing.
I think I'll still go with it just because its designed by google for googles OS so there's really no going wrong as far as the hardware/software combination, but we'll see what happens. Plus I feel like with ICS when they make all buttons part of the screen like Honeycomb, the soft buttons on the RAZR will look silly unless they make them useful.
The real turning point for me is the 4.65" Super AMOLED, which would be nice if it was Super AMOLED Plus, but it's still the nicest screen around, although I think I heard somewhere that the RAZR might get it too...not sure of the validity of that.
The Razr is getting the Super AMOLED Advanced, the Nexus is getting HD Super AMOLED. I understand the bare bones meaning after some research, but, they are still BOTH Pentile. So, until I get my hands on each of them I don't think I can make a decision based on dimensions and gimmicky names lol.
About the pics, yea, I just posted the ones I was kinda like WTF with? The thing is, why would they even post those? lol, if they knew they sucked why didn't they retake the pic? It is obvious on my 4.3" **** for a screen X2 if a pic is blurry, you mean to tell me an editor for a tech website couldn't tell on a 4.65" screen the picture sucked? I agree about 5MP/8MP isn't really a big deal, but I think they made the choice to sacrifice 8 just to kill shutter lag.
HDMI, I use it periodically to stream sports on the fly. I also use it for movies a lot, netflix(Before I cancelled that nonsense) or Google movies since I can just rent it on my phone and take and plug into anyone's TV.
I wish there was a way I could rent movies from android market and watch them when rooted.
(Sorry im about to get off topic. U just reminded me of something))
I remembered seeing the app OTA rootkeeper can serve as temporary uproot for all devices. My question is if I use that to "hide" root, can I go rent and watch movie from market((while still running eclipse))) and afterward use that app to bring root back and carry on as normal? This would be extremely awesome..
And to the responder who hasn't tried hdmi yet...you are seriously missing out. Once you use it you'll be amazed and use it a LOT. I bought a Motorola hdmi cable on ebay for 9bucks and it was one of the best decisions I've made regarding my x2

Yep, that is what I was using previously! Renting a movie on the market/YouTube is typically a whole $1 or more cheaper than DirecTV, which doesn't make sense lol. DirecTV just wants to rob people I guess.
Its funny that when I first bought the phone alot of people on Xda were saying how slow and laggy it was and I was starting to regret my purchase but a couple of weeks later and im thinking to myself how fast my phone is. I disagree I went from the Skyrocket and my Note was a lot slower and really laggy. I just swapped my Note for another one today and WOW this new one I got today is totally different. It is just as smooth and fast as my Skyrocket. If anybody is having performance issues you need to get it swapped out ASAP you will wish you had sooner.

That's not really so funny.
I also came from the Skyrocket and initially thought the Note was fast. Than I came on Xda and alot of user were reporting on how slow their phones were. Than I started noticing lag every where. Now after not thinking about it for awhile I dont notice the lag anymore. So my point is that by others saying how bad it was I started seeing the same0, whether it was there or not.

I have the note, although it is the international version.
When I first got it, it had just a little lag here and there. I don't use touchwiz, I use go launcher. I've had 4 updates, now at 2.36, LB2 and this last update (got it Thursday night) made this thing smooth with ZERO lag. Even scrolling apps in the app drawer, which, would lag for maybe 1-2 flips, then smooth out, is smooth as
silk with zero lag.
I lost root some time back, so it isn't a root issue, but perhaps on the at&t version it has to do with the bloat apps that run all the time?

okay not bashing here so dont take this wrong but I'm just trying to wrap my head around this statement, so you pay $300+ for your device but dont expect stock ROM performance to be any good?...seriously? I dont understand why someone wouldn't of course, and if it did underperform (mine runs fine) as a consumer you have every right to take it back. I think alot of people lose sight of the fact that it's still a PHONE that can now do amazing things that you would not have had the luxury of just a few short years back. And granted, the awesome development we enjoy through these forums does improve quality and enjoyment value of these devices to the point of maybe spoiling us as advanced users, but remember the vast majority of consumers of these devices are typical users and to them (and me) the Note on GB/Touchwiz although not a perfect machine is still an amazing device right "out of the box".

It is an amazing device but the Carrier$ load it down with u$ele$$ and unnece$$ary $oftware to $queeze more money from you. In the process the Bloatware DOES in fact hinder the performance as they run even when you don't launch them yourself. By getting rid of the bloatware you are unleashing the true potential of this beast of a phone.
Think of it this way... If you bought say a Subaru WRX STi and when you went to go pick it up and it had a bunch of useless Car Dealer stickons and random crap that hindered the performance, you are saying you wouldn't be upset ?

Very true. I'd probably be using an iphone if it weren't for the DEVs here. Sad that we need them to unlock the full potential of our devices. We also get better support from them than the companies that make them. A great example of that is the HP Touchpad.
Support your local DEVs. I do so by adding to their beer/coffee funds. Coffee is better as it keeps them up longer to work on things

Just curious as to who still uses this phone as their daily device! Seems like everyone here's signatures say a different device now.
I switched to my sensation while Sense 4 and CM10 is being fixed but I hate the no camera buttons and less RAM

I have a sensation, and I would prefer my amaze over it even if my amaze was stuck with froyo and the sensation had key lime pie

It has the SIM in it, with the phone number everyone has....I also find it easier to hold when I'm walking around than I do my SGSIII or One X.....
So, yes.

Still using it...
Historically I stick with the phone I have until I wreck it (usually by breaking the screen)...
That was the fate of my Galaxy S 4G, the phone I had before my Amaze.
The only phone I have not destroyed (going back to the days of Moto bar-phones and the original Razr) is the Verizon Vortex that I got specifically to use at Camp Shelby, MS while training for my last National Guard deployment. T-Mobile sucked wind out there, and VZW had 3G.
Of course, back home in WA it's reversed - Verizon's lack of wi-fi calling makes them useless where I live (complete dead zone for several miles, all 'G's, all carriers), so the Vortex was saved from apparently inevitable destruction by the fact that I cancelled it's service when I left for Afghanistan and never turned it back on again!
When I had sense 3.6 I had bad signals, GPS hack works better than regular it seems
Phreaks play on the Fone, and the HTC Amaze 4G, - XML
I got mine late May so yeah, its still my DD.

Same here. But for me that will probably change when the Note II comes out. Then I'll hold on to the amaze just to see where development goes for a bit. And just incase I can't stand the size on the Note lol

Using Energy rom with Faux kernel at 1.76ghz, working just fine as my daily driver. Replaced the battery with a 3600 mah mugen. Everything seems to work ok
I play music with it all time, irc chat, read websites, alarm clock, imdb, movie checks, starbucks card, etc. Everything just works, and fast.
First phone that doesnt lag and feel like a toy. I'm normally an early adopter and upgrade like crazy, I'm pretty happy so far. HTC VX (or something like that) does look like what I want, sdcard slot, LTE, 1080P screen.. Just want a real sliding keyboard with large ass battery and I'd be set.
Only things I don't like about it is some simple functionality issues.
Contacts and contact groups need polished. (At least you can hide google+ groups and ones without phone numbers)
Dialer is cluttered, looks nice, but facebook integration is overkill. (Except photos)
No way to save all contacts in into google contacts. (All services merged into one with Facebook photos, there are apps to help some)
Browser bookmarks are a tad annoying in default browser. But flash works!
MP3 Directories are a tad annoying to sort properly with internal/external memory.
Need some way to save ratings of songs in the ID3 tags or playlist files, no universal rating system in music.
Blacklisting apps work mostly, would like something built into the OS.
No nice desk dock, need to find something more universal.
USB plug tend to wiggle, MHL cable fits perfect. (I was plugging it in 2-4 times a day, new battery should make that once)

Nope...I don't feel there is enough improvements over the M8.

Probably a good thing you don't. Not sure you have enough room in your sig, to house another device worth of info
Was going to jump to sprint to get this. Finally leave Verizon. These reviews are pretty bad though. Hopefully with updates some of these issues can be fixed.

The best YT vid I watched said something to the tune of:
if you need a new device, it's a great first or replacement. I would not sell my M8 to get the M9, as there are not enough improvements to the platform. Stick with the M8.
That's rather telling, I would say.

Well here's a little "pick me up":good:
When you're all ready for it:
[NOOB Friendly] Root and Install TWRP on HTC One M9
Latest version of M9 TWRP, direct DL page:

Probably.
This will be a long version of saying YES, so here goes...
I had the M7, loved it. Jumped right on the M8 and "liked" it. My biggest issue with the M8 is kind of a silly one and it's mostly a behavior thing for me. Essentially, I couldn't stand how slippery the lil' bastard was. In my first few days, I dropped it on the pavement just carrying it to my car. Most of the drops were at my desk, just trying to do one-handed input. The thing is large, even for my large hands, so one-handed input was tricky, especially with a slippery phone. Now, most of you probably wonder, "Why the hell don't you just get a case?" Simple. I don't like cases much. I like the feel of the slim device in my hand without extra bulk. Often times, I slip the phone into the back pocket of my Levis. That's where my problems began. Sitting on a 2nd story balcony at dinner one night, my back was to the railing. The phone was so slippery that it slipped out of my back pocket and dropped two stories to the sidewalk below (thank God nobody got hurt). Shattered screen, requested my insurance replacement and got it in two days. The problem was, every single replacement (3 in total) had a blown speaker. After Sprint sending me 3 different replacements, I was so pissed that I switched to the Galaxy S5.
The Galaxy S5 is my first Samsung and now I know why. It's a big ol' piece of sh!t. Slow, clunky, plastic, TouchWiz - need I say more?
Bottom line, I've heard that the M9 has a better grip and isn't as slippery as the M8, so I'm thinking I have to switch back. Just can't handle this Samsung junk. I'll be selling it on eBay with all the accessories (Mophie case, extra battery with a dual charging dock, carbon fiber slim case, and a shatter proof screen protector).

I really want to but I'm so used to the note 3 features like spen that it's going to be tough. Not to mention the much larger screen. I love htc though and dislike touchwiz but have got used to it. I really want those dual speakers though. So badly wanted the prime or larger version.... And I get the reason to stick with the m8 if you have it.. I stayed with the note 3 over the note 4 for the same reasons and am happy I did.
I'm honestly hoping to hold on for the note 5 or if this m9 prime is ever released maybe they will have worked out the bugs of this one first.. So tough when your ready for a change. The wait is grueling but I want to be happy about buying a $600 pocket computer. ..
Totes ma goat sent from ma note
Anyone else already have theirs?
Going to get mine after I pay my Easy Pay stuff off next week, hopefully there's some form of CM ready when I get it. I'm sick and tired of the G3's development scene, all the GSM variants get the good ROMs while the Sprint variant had to rely on some ducktape & staple version of CM (Seriously, they increased the max volume and tried to fix NFC for the 1000th time and called it a "nightly") . I'll be really excited if CM11.1 gets ported because Holo is damn pretty on the M8 but I doubt it's gonna happen.
I am coming from the m7 looking forward to the m9
Got mine a few days ago at an event here in Los Angeles. Loving it
Sprint store or Bestbuy?
I revisit this decision every upgrade. Times have changed and are their any benefits to one or the other?
Bestbuy used to carry a better damage warranty/replacement deal long time ago. No frills no questions asked.
No more. They take the monthly charge and no matter what it is, they want another 150$. Plus they dont offer a loaner till you get a new one.
Used to have sprint plan similar to above, but have not since they use assurion.
Your experiences? Comments...
