Alright, I just bought my Dad a tab 10.1 yesturday since I found a really good deal on one. My problem is that when the tab freezes the only way to get it working is to hold the power button (about 10 seconds) from what I understand is that it should soft reset the device, but in our case it's being completely reset to factory settings. So is there another way to restart the tab? (On my Xoom it's Power and Vol Up) and is there anyone else having this issue? (pretty much, is this normal behavour?)
Now I'm not afraid to root and do all the goodness that is out there as I have done that on my Xoom and my Nexus One both of which were rooted within hours of recieving them, but since this is my Dads I would prefer not to.
The Tab is running 3.1, Kernal is 2.6.36.3 and the build is HMJ37.XXKG6 P7510XXKG6
Thanks for any insights
In order to reboot it, shut it down by holding the power button for 2 seconds until it shows the pop up menu - choose Power Off. When it is off, press the power button for 2 seconds again and it will start up.
baha that's a good one. As if I didn't try that already. The issue is that it was completely unresponsive to everything except a forced reboot. Too late regardless, it was returned yesturday.
I was in TWRP recovery flashing Xron rom b2.9 and the recovery said the zip file cant open. So it just kept doing its thing and would not let me go back to the main menu. I tried hitting home and back buttons, but no luck.
This was not found by me. I am giving credit to this amazing person who somehow found a trick to reboot the device even if your not in an OS.
"The reboot solution that I found to work all the time is to simultaneously hold the power button, volume down button and the big HP button for 30 seconds."

I had an issue with my Touchpad where the touchscreen stopped responding in CM7. Volume rocker worked and power button would turn the screen on and off, but I was stuck with no touchscreen and no means to reboot. After a mild panic attack, I plugged it into my computer and luckily had debug mode enabled so I was able to adb reboot it.
But this... this is incredibly useful. Thank you for the post. I'm glad to see that the manufacturers making devices without removable batteries are giving us a trump card to hard reset the devices. My 7" Galaxy Tab has a similar function where holding the power button down for long enough eventually resets the device.
..or you can just hold power + card button for 6 seconds. no volume button needed.
Hi,
i recently bought 2 Galaxy S wifi 5.0 as there was a deal going. first one worked fine but a few days later and i've opened up the second one to find the screen isnt working.
its stuck at the 'select locale' screen from the initial setup with me unable to scroll and select any options. the back and menu keys don't work either although the home button seems to be doing something as the keys light up when pressed and it also works in recovery mode.
The volume key works as i can see the media volume going up and down when its pressed, it also worked when i booted into recovery mode to try a factory reset.
i can see the media scanning running after bootup and when i plug in the usb to a computer it appears with the USB connected (but ofc i cant press the button) so i think the system is running fine?
the power button seems a bit stickier than the one thats working fine and also when i hold the power button in to shut down the device (unable to press power off) it comes straight back on. is there way to force a shutdown rather than reboot?
just wandering if theres anything i can do to hard reset? im a bit reluctant to flash a stock rom / gingerbread as i have on the other one if the screen is just dead but thought id see if anyone had any ideas of anything i can try?
cheers,
Well, I would return it since it is still under 30 days (where did you get it?).
comet was £99.
yeh ill probs take it in tomorrow just wandered if there was anything i could do to double check the screen was definitely goosed
I have the HP touchpad running CM9 Alpha2 and everything works great except when I reboot. I hold the power key in, the menu comes up, and if I select "power down", the pad still reboots. The only way to shut it down is to manually select "shut down" from the CM menu as it fresh boots. Both the "reboot" and "shut down" options while in CM9 result in the same reboot of Clockworkmod.
Is there a switch/toggle setting I can chance to make this thing shut down when I select shut down.
Do you have it plugged in when you shut it down? If its plugged in it will just start up again.
Yea, I really only get that bug anymore when it's plugged in. It maybe happens once every 20 shutdowns when it's not plugged in. You can try re-wiping and re-flashing, but that likely won't help that since pretty much everyone has this bug.
I would usually only get the reboot if I left wifi on before shutting down. If I turned wifi off first, it would shut down and stay off.
That's weird. I've never gotten a reboot when turning it off. All I know is that with clockworkmod installed, if you turn your device off when plugged in, it reboots into clockwork recovery. It does this with phones too. I think its supposed to do this in case you cant boot up and you need to restore or something. Other than that, I havent noticed it rebooting in any other scenario.

You know the old saying. "This is a feature and not a bug." I use a Touchstone to charge mine and either way, if the TP is already on the TS, or if I place on the TS after I shutdown, it will reboot to the moboot menu. I then use that menu to select "Shutdown" and it will stay off. I have been in this forum for several months and I have yet to see any other solution.
I had this all of the time with A2. With the past few official nightlies, this seems to have been fixed.
Thanks to all who replied.
Yes, I generally leave it plugged in...so that's the issue.
Guess I should thank HP for such a wonderful feature.
Anyway, I will either unplug it, or most likely just do the shut down from the menu.
thanks again.

I use Quick Boot to power off. I was having a 75 to 85% drop in the battery after setting it aside for a day or too.
The Quick Boot power Off fixed it.

Hello, with CM10.2 and data2sd enabled kernel this tablet is finally what it should've been since it came from the factory! So far two things: power button and screen lock buttons stop workin after some time after rebooting the tablet. It takes < 1 hour to happen but it works for some time after booting up. And then there is this button that should disable touch pad which does not work at all. Some ideas, please?
