I've been getting this the past three nights, changed roms all three nights, same issue. Went from espresso to cm7 nightly to miui, all three I woke up and had to reboot the phone by holding the up volume button and holding the power button, any one else experience this and is there any roms that do not experience this?

have you tried turning off the 100mhz step in voltage settings?
No I didnt think to try that. I do have my clock settings at 1000/1300 in the cm settings, could that be clocking it too high?

na that should be ok...what i mean is turn off the 100mhz step so your phone does not drop below 200mhz. See if that helps.
Ok ill try that. Thanks alot man

Install via clockwork and please report your findings.
Stopped by the IRC chat earlier and was given this. Worked for me. Thanks for all your work. I take it this has been a developing issue..?
I'm assuming that sleep of death us the phone not sleeping. Is this true? Hate to assume and install a clockwork file for something I don't need.

Opposite rather. Phone not waking up and essentially shutting off. Goes to sleep, and never wakes up, hence, sleep of death
Huh, that's what that was. Had it happen with 2.3 wiped and updated to 2.4 and it seems to be okay. Wondered if it was only me.

Permanantly never wakes up? I'm having an issue with the phone sleeping. I usually just have to hit the power button a few times.

I've been having this problem rather frequently as well.
Wheww...I'm relieved it's not just me. Started happening to me yesterday with Blackhole 4.2. I'd press the power button to wake my phone and nothing...just like it's off, except that it won't turn back on until I pull the battery first. Reflashed everything and then it worked most of the day then started doing it again. Also nearly tanked my battery.
Anyway, gonna flash SC and this patch and see how that goes.
Just out of curiosity Adrynalyne...what is causing this that the patch fixes?
So we finally have the name for this problem.. I was having a hard time looking for info on this problem with no luck and just switched back to dl30. This problem always drained my battery pretty bad after I battery pulled.

Thank you so much this fixed the problem I was having. When my screen would go to sleep it would not wake the phone up until I pressed the power button 3 times and the lock screen would come on....thanks again

I don't know if this would help anyone but I'm curious to know if it's the case for anyone else:
For those of you who have not applied this patch that are having problems getting your screen to come back on until you pull your battery, does it unlock if you hit the power button and the volume keys a couple times?
When I was having this issue, I just got into the habit of squeezing both sides of my phone (power button and volume up key) twice and my screen would always come back on.
Somehow or another, it seems to have stopped. Not sure what I did to make it stop since I've done so much trying to figure out an unrelated issue. I never looked through the logcat to see what was happening back when I was having the screen lock issue, so now I am curious.
I remember this was a common term used in Windows Mobile development (Omnia, Omnia II)
Which is where I first admired Adryn's work
Thank you for making my devices the way they should have been
Said my Frozen Yogurt-filled Fascinate (EB01)
thanks for the patch. i didnt know what the hell was wrong with my phone.
Installed SC 2.4 and the patch, but I'm still getting the sod. This is really driving me crazy now and there seems to be almost no information out there. I ran the stock bloated rom for several days without any problems so I'm just about to the point of going back to it.
For informational purposes, I'm running SC 2.4 with ADW EX Launcher. The only apps I've installed other than what comes with SC are Beautiful Widgets, PowerAmp Pro, Switchpro widget, and HanDbase. I do not have a theme installed.
I patched this file yesterday and everything was fine. Woke up this morning to a phone that was off and it has been doing it intermintly all day long. I'm flashing again now. We'll see.

Doubt it'll work. I've re-flashed the rom and the patch several times and it hasn't worked for me. FWIW, it does the same thing with Blackhole 4.2. The only thing that has worked for me is to go back to the original stock eb01 rom.
Also should probably mention I'm running the non-voodoo version. Anyone have any thoughts as to whether I'd have better luck with the voodoo kernel or would it make things worse.
Strangely enough, I loaded this up today for occasional lag at wake up, not for sod & now I've seen sod... Might be an app I just loaded tho. Anyone ever try process monitor widget? It has a setcpu type function & I'm not so sure it wasn't the culprit
Sent from my SuperClean'd SGS
I've loaded the patch, but haven't had a chance to test if it works.
When it happened to me (SOD), it was only when running on battery, never when the charger was plugged in. I'm just waiting for my batt to charge back up to full, then I'll pull it off of the charger and see if it reoccurs.

The problem is mainly cause by hardware interference, but it can be bandaged a little bit. If you search the old glitch thread you could read a fair amount about phantom press issue. Glitch 13.1 (for gingerbread) has "fixes" for the issue in place that drastically reduced the amount of phantom presses I experienced. Those weren't added to v14 though, because for others it apparently didn't work or actually exacerbated the issue. I asked tk-glitch about it and I think he said he's at least looking at implementing it into v14 though.
You can also turn off the long-press back to kill feature too, I've kept it off because I had issues with it closing apps by itself when it was enabled.

go to the dev section and look up the glitch v13 thread...read thru the last 20-30pages.
There's no real "fix". I've coded a band-aid to make it happen far less often. Here's the thread: https://github.com/Efpophis/Glitch/issues/9
I'm running kgb kernel with the "fix". I think Bill was going to code it into glitch...
update 16 Mar 2012:
there is a real fix but it involves taking your phone apart and modifying it. See this thread:

Just wondering if there are any fixes out there for the lockscreen lag / delay that seem to be an ongoing issue in Samsung based ROMs.
For anyone not knowing what I mean, its the way that the homescreen appears briefly after waking the phone before the lock screen appears. Its not a big deal, but does look a little "unpolished". Its an issue, that, if I can fix, would solve one of my last remaining issues with the phone.
Try cm7,cm9 or miui. It wakes before you press home
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I know they do, as I've tried them all... but I'm on a Samsung based ROM, and as I've got my phone set up exactly how I want it, I'll be staying on it. I'm using the Samsung based ROM because (shock horror) I quite like the way it looks, and is the most "fluid" / smoothest I've tried so far.
Any new about this delay?
Why is it happens? Maybe because the cpu clockdown or something so its take another second to wake the screen on?

What a load of BS. The S2 will always take at least 0.65 seconds to wake-up, no matter what Rom, kernel, whatever you use.

I know there are many threads regarding this, I have myself one. One of my friends said to me that his s2 wakes up instantly after he presses the home/power button. It is also said that the new aokp roms solved this issue, and users reported this too. But there are others, like me, who still have the lag (1-2 seconds). So i guess i did something wrong with the installation of the roms or anything else. I can't figure it out.
Well,i tried both cm9 and miui roms and i still have the lag.
seems like it should be a 'lag' because the deep sleep mode, its save much more battery on idle..
i'v just notice it too, maybe it always was ...
correct me if i'm wrong...

+1, ur very true ma8 as long as the phone is in perfect deepsleep mode this lag of 1~2 sec do remain and its nothing when compared to the better batt life with good deepsleep
PS- just check the same when ur phone is charging and u dont see that lag since its @ 200mhz always

i know about deep sleep mode. but i don't understand why some people have this lag and others don't.
Maybe for them 1-2 sec ain't call 'lag'.
Until you'll see it in your own eyes, you could judge.. . I bet they didn't waited at least 10 sec to get into the deep sleep...
I've been on myns247 ROM forever but am having constant problems with the touch screen with this ROM (and a lot of other Roms as well). Anyways looking for a replacement with the following features.
Long press volume to skip tracks.
Right button on rosie can be custom.
Five row app drawer and non pages scrolling.
No touchscreen issues.
I've tried z3d and liked it for the most part but no volume to change tracks and still had touch screen issues.
I've also tested the digitizer and had my screen replaced recently so its software related.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As for your screen problems....have you updated your firmware to the latest version?
Also ZR3D does allow for volume button track skip. There is a toggle to turn this on/off in Leedrooid/ZR3D tweaks.
Yeah I updated the firmware. Didn't know about being able to toggle leroid tweaks volume mod though.

I always stick to stock best battery life and smooth... Nothing wrong with custom but I am not one for over clockin..
When the source code comes out will make moddin kernels better and more stable..
But a phone is a phone lol.. Not a computer... So if you want a fast thing snag a computer If you push a phone to much you will burn it up... A computer can handle more due to fans and cooling system you can add. But pushing a phone will shorten it's life..
HTC didn't knock the cpu down because they wanted it to run slower or anything like that.. It's what ran best at the factory for battery life and stable issues..
Please don't eat me alive for this post. I just want to learn a bit. When I bought my s2 it came with gingerbread, everything worked super fine. And when the phone was lock and in deep sleep. I pressed the home or power button and the screen turned on very quickly. But then I move to ICS and i noticed the time of "waking up" is larger than it is on gingerbread while being in deep sleep. I tried stock ics and a bunch of other custom roms, Is it just me who notice this or this actually happens on ics?
Please don't reply with "move back to gingerbread" or something like that. I'm not complaining I just want to know if someone else feels this to....

Yes, the average wake time on GB was about 650ms, in ICS its about 1000ms, this is how it works, there is nothing that custom kernel or ROM devs can do about the situation at the moment.
Home button lag has always been an issue, there is a fix for this issue incorporated into a a few roms and themes, maybe try one of them
what cpu governor are you using and are you on stock frequencies? I use 500mhz as a min (voltage diff between is 200 and 500 at lowest values is on 25mV for me) and this improved it slightly.. could be placebo though

I thought and read that home button lag refers to the moment I'm in an application and press the menu button to go to Home screen. The lag was because the phone kept waiting for another press to open voice commands. Am I right? I've read it somewhere around here..
And I've been using 200mhz min and 1200 max with ondemand governor. Stock values

Try this way
its happend to me before and its gone !
if you have external SD card remove it and try again without it
i think the reason of this delay for me was the SD card .. it comes with 4 GB and class 4
i replaced it with 16 GB class 10 and everything is ok
if it was the same reason for you try any SD card with class higher than 4 .. class 10 recommended accurding to my experience
______________
if the reason was't the SD card .. i'm sorry because I'm trying to help
it only happens on ics its the way they have made it to save on battery
if you go to the market and get the the app called soft locker it will solve the prob
