I just want to take this time and thank all the devs and people who have contributed to the release of the 2.3.4 build on xda. the wake up lag is gone, as well as the ui lag after first waking up the phone, and also it has the crt animation even with the lcd density issue, i just use launcher pro, so its all good. this is amazing!!! i don't know how my day could get any better!!
I really want to unlock my bootloader and install 2.3.4 but the whole voiding my warranty has me worried. I keep thinking what if something happens and I need a replacement. Oh man. Decision time.

Well, after I unlocked my bootloader, I had a nice little text in the top left of my screen that read "unlocked". But after having some problems (own problems, not because of unlocking) I flashed back to the .57 sbf, and the "unlock" text when away. Then after flashing the unlocker sbf, I didn't have to go to fastboot and do the oem unlock command. So, it's like the bootloader is unlocked (the fuse is physically blown) but the unlocked bootloader is not fully in place until flashing the unlocker sbf (whatever that does).
So anyways, if something did happen to your phone with in your warranty, do you think if you could still get into the RSD protocol support you could just flash the .57 sbf and it would maybe cover it up to Motorola or whoever checks the phone that the bootloader is unlocked? How do you think they actually check that? Or if they will actually go through the trouble to do whatever it is in order to check?

Yea, I'm really loving it too. It's so quick. Did you try setting the screen density in the build.prop file to 270 instead of 240? I did that and while things did fit on the stock launcher, it made everything bigger to where it almost looked distorted to me...I didn't like the way it looked so I set it back to 240 and just used the Gingerbread launcher.
I concur, it is pretty amazing. I love how I can use swype beta now. Loads better!

im sorry i can't really answer this, partly because I just flashed it at 12 am in the morning and put it onto the charger and now its morning where im at. but in the few minutes i used it, it didn't seem to drain that fast
The battery life seems to be worse than froyo. Can someone else confirm this?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Yep battery life is worse than froyo drains too fast!!!
Can someone give me a heqds up where to get 2.3.4 at and how to get it. I have gingerblur right now.
The battery drainage issue has got to be a rouge app driving it down. My phone is at 70%. I took it off the charger last night after I flashed 2.3.4 and I had a ton of internet usage and a few calls today.
While I hate to say this, you should look at the "task manager" app that is included with the Atrix builds and actually use the Auto-End list function. Before I found out that I DoubleTwist was killing my battery and uninstalled it I was using this auto-end list to help take care of the other apps that were going stray.
Going back and paraphrasing what the CEO of Motorola Mobility said that all apps are not created equally and some are definately coded poorly and drive battery usage down. As much as we may hate to hear it, the guy is right.
Good luck,
NW
2.3.4 was nice but in all honesty the offical release will most likely be out in less than a month and it will not have as many as the issues that this one has
I agree, it is quite amazing. The battery life is rather short now. It is definitely out of whack because I cab power it down at 70% and when I turn it back on it is at 90%.

Did you/everyone else with battery issues try wiping the battery stats or using the Battery Calibrator app?
For the pass week I have been experiencing screen freezes / screen lock ups......to the point I have to do a battery pull....I never had this issues before til recently I've tried every rom and it does the same thing after a few days or so I've even ran roms that I've never had any issues with before but i still get lock ups....any ideas!!! I don't wanna take it in cuz I don't want to do the HTC unlocking once they send me a refurb!!

Could it be heat related? Mine is.
I am going for a second refurbished e3d and hitting it with a hairdryer first thing out of the box to see if I can get it to reboot due to moderate heat.
A month ago, refurbished phones were 1.4 hboot.
Can't be heat related I watch movies just to burn my battery dry and nothing goes wrong but idk but it possibly could be heat related
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
M phone was horribly hot this weekend and was perfectly stable. What the heck?!?
Heat is either a necessary precondition or it is humidity related. Those (and updated apps, as they hit the market) are all that have changed between stability and the previous rebooting abyss.
Maybe random really is random.
Oh, I still can't use the walts kernel that comes with CR 2.5. Something about it hates my phone and causes massive random rebooting.
Freeza's stock kernel is a million times more stable, only leaving me with the more minor rebooting topic we are posting about here.
Try this... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18246407&postcount=2861
I'm getting freezes also, anytime my phone screen times out. The phone will lock up and you have to hold power button plus volume up and down to reboot or battery pull.
I just did this fix and testing now, not sure if it fixes it yet...

Questions - Just trying to help
OP :
Are you using any 3rd party roms - mods - themes- etc.
?
If so, I can tell you , from personal experience, that ViperRom seemed to affect my phone (stock kernel, last version, not the latest) in this way. I was not overclocking, nothing special just the basic rom and it seemed to randomly lock up, and get quite warm. Many, many others however are quite happy with his rom without any issues.
Me personally, I have moved to Virus'es (lol) infected rom, Im loving it, stable, fast, beautiful theme, and it seems like the developer is a little more involved than Viper was.
Just my 2c, Not trying to trash any of the dev's I appreciate all of the hard work hobbyists put into this, once again, just trying to be helpful.

I'm running virus news rev and I'm getting the lockups...
It happens while I leave phone idle and freezes screen up and requires battery yank or power down and volume button reset.
I just flashed back to virus airbourne and no lockups.
Seems to happen on 2.3.4 roms only.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
If you are running any of the roms that change the automatic dimming settings than that may be your problem. For some reason, anytime Steel would add that feature to his rom everyone would start having the lockups and screen freezing. Check to see if your rom has altered these settings and if it has remove that update and you should be fine.
Every single kernel I have tried with the exception of netarchy's silverneedle on 2.3.3 has given me random lockups after about a day of use.
I have since reverted back to the Stock kernel on 2.3.4 and all is well.
Yea i have used vipers newest and even went back to the good ol decks ROM and had lock ups I'm on deck now with no custom kernel so i will do more testing then slowly add things to see what the culprit is

I think its probably more hardware related. I'm stock everything and have had this almost catch fire 3 times now. Not like a little hot, but hot to where I have to put it down. I too have had a bunch of screen freezes lately, only a few force restarts. The high temp thing is random. First was taking video. Second time was uploading a few pics to facebook, third time....this last sunday was a good one. Had it plugged in for about 2.5hrs. My dad grabbed it and threw it down because he didn't expect it to be as hot as it was. I was like WTF? He gave me the phone and it was on fire, with only 25-30 charge. This was using the HTC charging stuff that came with the phone. I keep deleting the battery temp app so i didn't get actual temps at the time. I'm gonna try for a new one tomorrow, hopefully get upgraded to 1.40 from 1.50.

It really will be determined by what you plan to use on your phone? Any of the roms can give great or terrible battery life. I build the MIUI for the mighty little Photon. I love it, and the battery life is good enough for my liking overall (avg around 10 hours on an Anker 1600mAh battery). If you want better battery life, use the following:
1) Keep screen timeout down to under 30 seconds. Havina this screen on fora minute is just dumb...LOL
2) Set your e-mail accounts up to poll every 15 or 30 minutes. Having them on PUSH will require them to run in the background all day, and will reduce your battery life...especially if it's an Exchange one.
3) Turn off GPS when not in use. This is a KILLER on ANY ICS rom. It'll suck your battery dead faster than any other thing on your phone
4) Turn off wifi if you're somewhere you won't be using it. Having it constantly searching for open access points will kill your battery
5) Use a darker theme
My best advice...try all of the roms....since a flash takes literally 2 minutes, you can try them all. Flash it, run it for a day, see if you like it, then if you don't go on to the next one

Isn't miui a white theme? Making for less battery life? I usually don't use wifi and leave gps on for work other than that my screen is set to 30 and 30 second timeout... I just need to know, I guess, which rom is the lightest?

No disrespect intended, sir, but I hate this idea. One of the first thing I do is crank my screen timeout up as high as it will go (10 minutes, I think). Nothing worse than your screen dimming when you're trying to do something. If I'm using it, the dimmer can back the frak up. When I'm done, I'll hit the power button and let it go to sleep.
That said, if I'm in low light, I turn the brightness down as far as it will go. Makes it easier to read. My CM7 notification toggle for brightness has two settings: Dim and 100%. I use both regularly depending on where I am.
Also, I find that battery use fluctuates a lot. I've gotten 20 hours on my stock battery -- that was in CM9 or Paranoid Android, one of the two (the latter is CM9 based, but the CM9 and Paranoid Android bases are outdated). I've also gotten as little as 6. I've never heard of a universal benchmark to measure battery life definitively. It's gonna differ every day because your usage changes every day. It's gonna differ from person to person because your location in relation to cell towers is different from mine. At home, my phone works its ass off to stay connected. At work, not so much. My 20 hour run was at work.
None of the ROMs have patently abysmal battery life. One thing that will definitely help is the lack of background processes, so any de-Blur'd ROM (including all ICS ROMs) would have a leg up over stock for that reason alone. Blur has so much crap running in the background, it's disgusting.
Oh, and Amazon Appstore and its notification spam. I bet that sucks up a bit of battery. "Hey hey look at me, you have X updates" *open Appstore* "No apps to update, trollface.jpg". Seriously, the Update tab should display a trollface when there's nothing to update, because you probably went there because of that stupid notification. Maybe use Titanium to freeze Appstore if apps you got through it don't require it to verify your purchase, and follow the free app of the day via Twitter via SMS or something.

Hey, good question about which ICS Rom having the best battery life. I would definitely have to go with CM9 by Jokersax. The battery life may be bad for a few days, but according to the replies and posts on his website. Battery life will be more exceptional after 3 days of usage. I like my CM9 Rom and it has better battery life everyday. But it is all based on personal preference.
I'm using CM9 7.0.0
Just got it last night and personally the battery life kinda sucks. But I just set up my profiles and whatnot. I also notice the battery life getting better.
Then again it could completely be my fault for always using my phone.

Well I've tested cm 9 for almost 3 days and battery life only lasted for 10 hours on moderate use. I then chose to go with miui for 2 days battery life again was a little bit better only getting 12 hours with moderate use. Then I went to the aokp port bill released and so far I've gotten 16 hours with moderate to heavy use my battery is only at 20 percent and the rom is amazing! Thanks th3bill

Hello I've been running TW roms on my Note 2 for a long time now, and I love them but I came from the Galaxy Nexus and I am missing 4.2.2 and the whole AOSP feel. Things that I had a question on are:
1. When I flash a 4.2.2 rom will I be able to flash back to a 4.1.2 TW rom? or are there things that I should do to avoid any issues?
2. What kind of battery life can I expect? I know that no one can say for sure but just wondering a roundabout estimate. On TW I can get a good 24hours of battery life and around 3 hours of screen time, is it anywhere close to this?
3. Is there anything I can do to get SPen to work? I don't use it alot but I would like to use it still if possible.
That is all I think, thank you for your help in advance.

1. You can flash between AOSP and TW ROMs no problem, you just need to wipe data each time. You can also just make a nandroid of your current stock TW ROM and simply restore that if you want to go back.
2. I havent had my Note 2 very long, but I immediately put AOSP on it and based on my weeklong experience you will have no problem whatsoever getting the same usages out of the battery on AOSP, it might even end up beating that.
3. IDK about using the S-pen. I dont use it myself so I never bothered looking into it.
Hope this helps.

I was in the same boat as you. Ive flashed almost every AOSP rom here and I have never had one for over 24 hours. They all just dont have the "umph" where the TW roms all are chock full loaded of nice features that I thought I may never use. Ive always gone back to tw.
If you want, try Tweaked rom with the AOSP theme, VERY close to AOSP looks but woth a lot of TW functionality and customizations

But hey, I'll vouch for us :silly:.
Battery life exceeds your current use-case in my experience.
Yes, you can easily flash back to touchwiz.
We support SPen. You can even assign left/right/up/down swipe gestures and long-press, and double-click actions to custom actions.
I.E. Left-swipe (while holding the button) can open an app, simulate a home/back/recents press...etc.
Thank you all for your input! I decided to try it out for myself and I flashed Illusion ROM and the boast 2 days have been awesome with it nice and smooth and battery life seems about the same as it was with TW. I got almost 19 hours of battery life and 5 hours of screen time.
My only gripes about AOSP is that the volume is very low and I can barely hear people when calling them but hopefully I can find a mod or something to fix that. My signal seems to be worse too which is weird since it seems to be the same radios as the TW ROMs..well as far as I can tell.
Thanks again!

And the signal bars are just tricking you into thinning you get more service on TW check the dBm under about phone- status
I'd call good service anything less the 100

Oh I wasn't aware of that, it just seemed lower becase my signal will drop all the way to 1X sometimes and I never noticed it with TW but maybe what you are saying is right and the signal bars weren't showing whats really going on. To fix the sound the easiest thing is to flash Plasma kernel and install Stweaks.
As for the service issues there may be some depending on your ROM and what is being done with the RIL on CM. Ultimately it isn't much to worry about unless you're missing calls and texts.

I might try plasma and see how that is..hopefully battery life is still good with it. The service is starting to bother me just because in stream a lot of music from Google Music and songs have been cutting out on me lately which never happened to me on a TW ROM...my phone has been getting really hot too..

There's also a STweaks guide in the forums here that can help you adjust voltages, etc...
I've always had absolutely outstanding battery life with sense roms, granted I use custom kernels with undervolting. I've flashed basically every ROM here and I usually get maybe a full day out of sense under heavy usage and maybe half a day out of AOSP. Can somebody explain why? I'd always thought the SenseUI used more resources and had more backgrounded process running than AOSP. Benchmarking also reflects that. But I still get more usage from sense than aosp. Am I missing something? I also used custom kernels with aosp and undervolted.

I'm probably wrong but the phone was built for sense not aosp. I've wondered the same thing myself.

I don't think physical aspects are the reason for battery life here though. You'd think a ROM running fewer processes would have better life, but here it's the opposite. Unless Sense actually DOES run fewer system apps than aosp does...

I've had better luck on MeanROM, which is Sense based than AOKP, but I'm new to the latter.
Does anyone on here run AOSP-based ROM's and get a full day's worth of battery life? Any tips/tricks for those of us on here having battery life issues with AOSP?

Depends on what aosp rom you're talking about. 4.4 naturally sucks more battery than 4.3 does. I recommend using tasker to switch off data when your screen is off, and reactivate every 15 minutes or so to make sure you still get background syncing. Not my idea, someone else posted this and it works great. Also undervolt if possible (make sure to stability test) and reduce screen brightness. Screen on uses a surprising amount of battery.
I already use Llama to contol wifi/GPS/BT and cycle mobile connections with the screen off. You need a custom kernel to undervolt, right? What program do you use to control that?

I use kernel tuner. Be careful to not set anything to boot until you've thoroughly tested voltages.

What settings on kernel tuner have you gotten away with changing without causing apps to FC or the phone to randomly reboot? I've played around with the governors a little bit, but I'm not familiar with all of the options in kernel tuner.

I anyways is interactive. Undervolt in will require extensive testing on your part since no phone is the same so my voltages may not work on your device. I don't touch anything that's in the governor mod section since I don't know what I'm doing there.
