Either you don't have the drivers or you didn't boot to download mode.
Steps to restore Steps to restore Android 2.3.4 Stock ROM from from CyagnoMod 7.1 ROM
Read these steps and give it a try (I succeeded and hence sharing here):
NOTE: You own the risk of following the steps. It is assumed you have knowledge of putting phone in Download and Recover Mode. It is also assumed you are aware of ODIN ROM upgrade process.
1. Put the phone in recovery mode and clean cache partition then reset factory settings/wipe user data.
2. Reboot the phone now.
3. Goto download mode
4. When the phone is in download mode, flash Android 2.3.4 Stock ROM using ODI
N and required Stock ROM files (either one package or separate CSC, Modem, etc.. files)
5. When flashing Android 2.3.4 ROM is done, reboot phone in recovery mode.
6. Now in recovery mode, reset factory settings/WIPE user data and clear cache partition.
7. Reboot the phone now.
Disclaimer: These steps worked for me. You are responsible for following these steps and taking risk. You own the risk of damaging hardware and/or software (bricking your phone) for you phone.

Hello everyone,
I am a complete and utter idiot, and accidentally installed cyanogenmod 10.1 over a fresh install of 10.2 without gapps on my verizon sgs 3. Now my phone is stuck in bootloop and when I try to enter recovery mode the original samsung logo flashes and then nothing. I am at a complete loss for how i can go about trying to salvage this hardware; I can't get it to talk to my pc using adb either. Any help on initial steps would be very very greatly appreciated.
flashing stock rom with odin via download mode should do the trick.
When I enter into ODIN download mode (by pressing down vol + home + power) its gives me a message saying downloading, please do not turn off target. Do I just need to leave it in this mode and let it do it's thing? It seems dubious that ODIN could download something without fully booting the phone. Am I going to need to download an image of the stock rom to flash? Thanks so much for your reply!!
No you need to download the stock rom to your pc and use the odin pc app to flash it. At this point you can turn off your phone.

1. You can either boot into recovery, flash CM 10.2 and gapps again, and wipe everything when you're done, or...
2. Fire up Odin (PC) and flash the stock ROM and start from scratch.

See that's just it; I can no longer boot into anything but download mode. I'm currently downloading the default kernel, OS image and the ODIN desktop application. I'm not sure I'll be able to get it to flash; we will see
Add it as PDA, not phone. Also make sure repartition is NOT checked.

Hey,
I have since become a S3 ... I have rooted it and wanted to play another Rome.
First I flashed my Carbon ... that was wonderful, but I had no wifi. Then I tried another Rom (with aroma installer). When I had WiFi, but since I have the menu did not like it and it was me too many Samsung Apps.
Now I have flashed me the Resurrection Remix, but the S3 boots constantly new to the CWM.
The same I have with CM11.
What am I doing wrong please?

You need to install exactly like below don't miss any steps
-Installation-
1.- Wipe data / factory reset (mandatory if you coming from STOCK OR 4.2.X version or another ROM)
2.- Install the Main ROM
3- install gapps
4.- When you're back on recovery go to Advanced
5.- Wipe Dalvik Cache
6.- Fix Permissions
7.- Wipe Cache Partition
8.- Reboot
If it still not working flash TWRP recovery and use that to flash the rom
Hey,
I just did it. Then came the Samsung logo, phone restarts and I'm back in the CWM.
Have just flashed TWRP reboot (via CWM) Recovery and but still have CWM.
Grrrrrr ...... what for now
Better download official firmware from Sammobile and install thru Odin. Then Root and carry on with your favorite custom rom.
Yes I agree with KSKHH if problem still there return to stock with odin and start again..

Hey,
I have now taken me this firmware:
I9300XXUGML2_I9300DTMGML2_I9300BOUGMK3_HOME.tar
Odin started, specified in the PDA tar file, made my S3 in the download mode, USB cable ran ... it was detected and was also flashed. Now I sit for at least 10 minutes and nothing happens.
The Samsung logo always changes its color and the LED on the top left light blue.

You could try the zip in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-2-6-3-0-touch-recovery-t1943592/post50943534
Then you could just flash that using CWM. And yes it does affect things when you flash it as it changes your recovery from CWM to TWRP which is more touch screen based, easier to use as well as being a lot more powerful than a basic CWM. Having changed you may find TWRP doesn't find your previous backups. This is usually as both of those recoveries tend to save them in different places and it's just looking in the wrong place for the files. You can either change the settings to a CWM style restore or just run a new backup through TWRP and delete the old CWM one.

thanks , and i made this post like a tutorial ^_^ <3
Guys, everytime I flash twrp using ODIN it goes down as a success. And it reboots the phone. But then I shut down the phone and reboot to recovery its once again the default Samsung Recovery. The phone is not rooted. How do I prevent the original recovery from overwriting the TWRP recovery?

Just use the TWRP Manager from the Play Store. Root the phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33305792&postcount=3 and install the manager.
@lurker316: forget TWRP-manager. The only extra step, you need, is a factory reset. So backup all your data before. To avoid reboot after flashing TWRP, either uncheck reboot in Odin or pull out battery after succeeded flash.
Hi guys, i have a problem with my phone, I tryed to re-root it after upgrading to android 4.3, now the only response i get from the phone is download mode and that happens only when it's plugged in, I applied this TWRP but i still have the same problem. please if anyone has an idea, help!

Hi there,
in short:
1. Download appropriate Stock ROM for your region from XDA, SamMobile or SamsungUpdate.
2. Make sure correct drivers for your device are installed.
3. Get and install latest Odin 3.09.
4. Put your phone in Download Mode.
5. Flash stock ROM (learn how to use Odin if you don't know, otherwise you probably brick your device).
6. Perform factory reset via stock recovery. Boot device, done.

Hit thanks if this helped you.
u can get the stock rom inhttp://www.sammobile.com/
and also get the odin here http://odindownload.com/
recomend to do a hard reset clear cache dalvic and data
bootloader by home key, vol down and power git yes and conect to pc open odin look for the rom in the pc where ever u save it ad flash it do not disconect until odin say past and good to go
I've successfully rooted my I9300, actually I wanted to install recovery and try new ROMSsso I went to the method with recovery install through ODIN. But it didn't work for me as the matter was overwriting of stock revovery, I tried every method there to somehow get recovery installed. But all failed. Finally went to CF AutoRoot method and I only have root access now, the phone feel a bit slow now.
1. When an root app is run it takes a lot time to prompt me with root grant/deny(precise to say some app shown timeout). What's the problem?
2. Can somebody say how to get custom recovery in this condition?
3. I have backed up the efs and got two backup files as these[efs.raw.img-20 MB & modem.bin-12.1 MB] . Is it all? anything missing?
After getting a recovery I will make a NANDROID Backup. But please help me in the above three questions.
Thanks for your kind reply.
1. Factory reset
2. You can't, not with a stock firmware
3. Depends how you backed up

for the 2. If I can't with the stock firmware how to do it then? Pretty sure there is a way, that's what I'm asking.
Flash recovery with Odin then reboot straight into recovery and flash custom rom, if you allow stock firmware to boot it will overwrite recovery.
There is a guide in sticky thread.

Instead of all those button presses can I just install the CWM through ROM Manager. Is there any problem with that actually?
EDIT: or please at least say me how to block stock recovery overwrite through Terminal Emulator or what else.
