Third Party List - Galaxy 3 Themes and Apps

Hi all,
I'm posting here the third party apps list I'm using.
Tons of apps ... it's the jungle ! so it can be good to know what you are using and why. You will find in the attached file the reason I use these apps (Main reason is that there are adapted to our powerless and ldpi phone).
I also post the full apk's list that are in my /system and /data partition. It can be usefull for noobs to see what apk's can be wiped from /system.
In my signature there is a link to my deap red theme. If someone is interested just PM me (but my ROM is only available for EN-FR and PT locales, without 5 lockscreens, etc).
I'm waiting for the app list you are using !
regards.

Gapps for Archos

Hi all,
Well for everyone who want's to have the Google apps like:
Android market
Youtube
Gmail
etc.
Here is a link to a share where the gapps4archos can be downloaded.
http://code.google.com/p/archos-apps-installer/downloads/list
INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:
WARNING: You cannot install this appInstaller if you installed gApps4Archos or any other gApps installer. Anytime you switch appInstaller programs, you MUST reset your device back to stock. If you've NEVER installed ANY market/gApps installer, then your good... no need to reset.
NOTE: If you've ONLY used my appInstaller, then you can REMOVE the old files using my app and re-install the apps at the same time, then REBOOT.
1) Download - http://code.google.com/p/archos-apps-installer/downloads/list
2) Copy download to your device via USB (if you didnt download directly using your Archos)
3) Use 'Files' app to locate gAppsInstaller, then execute/install it
4) Choose install packaged apps or choose to install your own packaged 'apps.zip' file located on the internal drive (not sdcard)
4a) There maybe a short delay after you tap an install button (its installing and you'll be notified when its done, about 5-10 seconds)
5) REBOOT!!
6) Follow the Market FIX instructions below
MARKET FIX:
This will get you most missing apps from the market, except some "protect market apps"
Setting-->Manage Applications-->All-->Market (Clear Cache then 'Force Stop' -- DO NOT clear data)
Setting-->Manage Applications-->All-->Google Services Framework (Clear data then 'Force Stop')
REBOOT again
Market Fix video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7l-nySibzeA&feature=player_embedded#!
If you do this correctly you will find most missing apps like 'Copilot Live USA' in the Market. However, some apps will not show because they are "protected" Market apps. These include 'NY Times'. Google search "android protected market apps" if your not familar.
NOTE: The latest version of GMAIL and Youtube can be downloaded in the market...
Thanks to our friends from the archosfans.com forum
Thankyou for this, I have seen how much work you have put into it. Tried gAppsInstaller_v3.apk this morning and seems to be working well, no FC's etc so far...
(edit)Oppss ment to say thankyou Kenyu73 for the app and thanks Dreetje for posting, thought you was Kenyu under a different name...

Well i didn't made it, Kenyu73 did make it It makes my device complete, really love the Archos device!
Thanks! I've looked at these instructions a dozen times on ArchosFans and always missed that market was clear cache not clear data and never figured out why it didn't work right for me. With the latest gapps I'm now seeing most everything. Awesome guide!
Edit: For some reason when I use this installer however, TweetDeck will not run properly. It always Force Closes once I've signed into my account and I cannot fix it. This is one of my favorite apps. If someone could figure this out I would appreciate it.
Edit 2: This installer causes a ton of apps not to launch in my experience thus far. TweetDeck as mentioned, Moblox, Angry Birds, they all just FC or hang endlessly. I'd still recommended the other installer with the same steps outlined in this post.
Stupid question but does "reset your device back to stock" mean anything else than a reboot? Like an Android reset or something?

from recovery or from menu, not reboot
thanks for the advise on market acces update, now finally updated gmail apk
I have the Google Marketplace up and running and for the most part it works wonderfully. My biggest issue are protected applications I use on my HTC EVO aren't showing up and some of these application I really use / enjoy. Some of these are:
1) BatteryView
2) Battery Watch
3) Splash ID!
4) Monster App Pro (I'm using the non-Pro right now)
I've been trying to add the "Market Access" application to the mix to help me with this issue, but thus far can't get z4root to work. Oh, it says it was successful, but none of the programs that need root can get it from the Super User application.
I can live without these protected applications, they are simply nice to have -- except Splash ID!, which IMHO, is necessary to protect my development personal, professional, and development information. I was able to get a work around for Splash ID, for which I'm thankful.

Excuse my ignorance, but how is this at all new? There's been a gapps hack available for every Archos device for quite some time now. It's always been readily available on ArchosFans.com.

It's a different version which allows for more flexibility, especially for updating the two most useful core apps.

It also has less apps in it, saving space for where the apps are installed, especially since Archos only provided around 275~ MB of space for app installation
And not all apps can move to sd card so any space is helpful
All we need now is the Samsung Galaxy Tab email app ported over. If anyone has any idea please share.
Thanks for posting the info for my gAppsInstaller. I've been away from the game for a few days now doing housework "mods" (=
The only issue remaining that I'm aware of with this app is a certain sub-set of apps that FC (AutoZone, OSMonitor and a few others mentioned in this thread. I haven't had time to research, but whatever the gApps4Archos is doing is making these work ok... I'm thinking its some registration of dll files ('so' files perhaps). I do know it copies 4-5 .so files into the froyo/system directory, but i'm not sure right now if I need to do some type of '.so' file registration with them.
If any linux guru's out there know of something I need to do specifically with these (besides copying them to the '/froyo/system' directory, please let me know.

Your question: I searched for an explenation about registering the .so files and found this link: http://users.actcom.co.il/~choo/lupg/tutorials/libraries/unix-c-libraries.html#shared_dlopen
just checking - these instructions are for 2.2 only ?

I dont think he created the original gApps4Archos package, he only de-compiled it, added the updated the apps with the newer 2.2 market then vanished.
I think he dropped of the radar after he did the re-package of that app.

My app doesn't include youtube (i required you to get it from the market) so I'm not sure why you say it wont update.
Did you use this one or gApps4Archos?
yes i use that and youtube comes with it but it keeps fc and it wont download from market

[Q] Theme compactable with Khalpower V4 GalaxyXT ROM

Since I saw some AMAZING themes but I was unable to install'em, I wanna ask if somebony is able to link some themes which are compactable with Khalpower's V4 GalaxtXT ROM, couse I tryed like 20-25 themes and from all only DarkFroyo V2 and 1 more works.
Thanks alot!
The Honeycomb-theme works fine on V4 (except that you need to replace the keyboard with some keyboard from the Market, but that's the only bug there is).

Kahl has this one posted somewhere in one of his threads. It replaces the stock LatinIME.apk & works fine. Just copy the zip to openrecovery/updates boot into Open Recovery, appy the update, wipe the dalvik-cache & cache partitions & reboot.

When i try to apply the galaxyxtv4 theme update, it does not work! i still have the red theme and i dont know what to do anymore. Isnt that how one apply a theme? am i missing something?
I believe others had issues with that update too. If you're running the PersonaRedv4 I think you can just restore the system partition from KP full GalaxyXTv4 (nandroid restore) & wipe the dalvik-cache & cache partition & reboot.
I was wondering... if I install propper theme which works woth this rom but replace apps from other theme (and apps are more - 6 in compactable theme and about 20 in that one that I will replace with), so will it work as it works with bootanimation, couse if I keep the working theme but put difetent bootanimation it still works.
I'd give a guarded yes. If the filenames of the apps you want to replace match EXACTLY (e.g. maps.apk is not the same as Maps.apk) then they will be overwritten. If they don't match your best bet is probably to remove the apps you want to replace before installing the new ones. You will be limited as to the size of the system partition so adding files as system apps could be problematic but replacing one modded app with another should generally be OK. Another thing to note is (I think) not all apps can be installed as system apps. Note that it is always a good idea to do a nandroid backup before you try making the changes so (when) things go wrong (and they will ) you can get back to a functioning device as painlessly as possible.
Hi guys.
I'm looking for a working Gingerbread Theme for the V4XT rom.
Could you please help me?
Thanx in advance.
I was wondering if this one coud work? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9784619&postcount=13
I was previously used it on my original 2.1 Rom and it was absolutely perfect.
I have today tried to install many themes with the new khalpower v4.
Result was the follwing: I was able to get a decent outcome. Keyboard bug could be fixed but after a couple of theme flashes things started to get weired. First my gmail app stopped working.
After that I only got jibberish as fonts so that I was unable to change languages or anything else for that matter.
I'd very much appreciate ports for the new v4. Right now I'm using the fix described above. Thanks so much! Worked like a charm

[Tips] Review of apps & ROMs

Hello,
This is for people who look for optimized ROM coupled with the Best of apps.
Joining xda dev and rooting my Galaxy Ace happened on the same day. It has been about couple of weeks and I have flashed around more than half dozen ROMs and installed and uninstalled several apps.
Will share some good apps and ROMs along with few tips and tricks that I learned in couple of weeks.
Credit to all contributors and online fraternity who brought me up to speed.
1) CM9 ICS
This was the 1st ROM I flashed after rooting. Believe me it ain't that great as it looks to be. It will be while before it can out weigh CM7.x
There are major shortcomes like Camera etc. And many cosmetic bugs.
I was not able to use it for more than a day !
2)CM7 Cooper
This is fairly good but better try RadMon.
3)APOCALYPSE
This is the best thing to happen to me after joining XDA and of course rooting my device.
There are things that if changed makes this a perfect custom ROM, for people who wish to stay long with a single custom ROM.
After market mods to this ROM:
1. Took off real player. Installed PowerAmp, this is just awesome.
2. Removed email app. Save some bytes.
3. I wasn't aware that deleting DownloadProviders leads to crashing Play store. Below will post on recovery of the same.
4. Root browser with a hack to enable full features is as good as paid root explorer. [Google will help you find the post by original author]
package uninstall/install:
$>su
$>pm list packages -f
$> mount -o remount rw /system
$>rm /system/app/example.apk
$>pm uninstall <app: e.g. com.android.mms>
$>copy apk to be installed to /system/app - (need SU permission)
$>pm install <app: e.g. com.android.mms>
For recovery of DownloadProvider:
1. Copy DownloadProvider.apk & DownloadProviderUi.apk from the custom ROM zip which you are using.
2. Paste the same to /system/app
3. install above apps using method discussed above.

[Q] Some questions about SGS3

Hello.
I'm having fun with all your awesome stuff here, but I have a few questions.
Currently I'm running Philz Touch Recovery, ARHD 23.2 ROM cleaned with Rom Cleaner, w/ Nova Launcher & Perseus kernel
Q1: Is it possible to somehow protect recovery options, for example with pin or password? I didn't find such option in Philz recovery, and actually didn't test anything apart from that.
Q2: "Rooting" the phone is basically flashing a custom recovery with Odin, so it gives you additional options like reflashing rom etc. Of couse if I'm flashing already rooted rom. Am I right?
Q3: Is a full wipe, including wipe & format of /data /system /preload and /cache the "maximum" of available "cleaning" the old rom? Is there anything else to delete?
Q4: What do you guys think about latest (official 4.1.2) ARHD vs Omega? I know that there isn't a "best rom" for everyone, I just want to get some opinions from users.
Q5: Is there anything else interesting to do with SGS3? Any must-be app, tweak or something like that?
Thank you.

Custom recovery does not give root though many are a comined flash .

Okay sorry for Q4 and thank you for answers.
Q5: Is any action required with changing recovery from Philz to TWRP? I don't want to leave any leftovers, junk files etc.
Nevermind, it's just an .img file .
R: [Q] Some questions about SGS3
No action to change recovery, just flash. Even though i would keep philz, whos gonna boot up your recovery (who even knows how...i know one or two people in person that know how, and even though i wouldnt leave my phone alone with them, why would anyone get the crave for flashing my phone thru recovery? plus i always have a recent backup...)
im not gonna make any comparisons but for me best rom for s3 now is foxhound, its fully customizable and got tons of feature (cuz it combines those of all other roms).
Cool apps or mods?
Let me think...
Theres ink effect mod for android 4.2.1+ only though
Theres syiah kernel orbootanimation mods..
Apps(HERE COMES MY ARSENAL, BEST APPS IVE GOT, ALL OF THEM INSTALLED ON MY PHONE:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:)
Theres screencast, rom manager, cpu master, titanium backup, pimp my rom, rom toolbox, goo manager, autorun manager, send to sd card (VERY useful, use it to save images off facebook, best method there is), android assistant, home manager, super manager, screendim, locale picker(find it on web, it changes your nationality its useful to trick google play or apps that require u to be in another country),
Boat browser, orbot(its tor for pc), faster downloads(best internet download manager apps, faster downloads from multiple connections), vget(stream videos from ANY website, i found this app casually, and it was a miracle...unfortunately not very popular, but best one of its kind i assure u), ttorrent pro, catch(note taking app, best one i think), radaee pdf(best one, definitively best one for its features and locked horizontal movement and stuff and for learning c in class while teacher is explaining), file manager (rhytm studios i think), smart office 2, mx player, unrar pro(MUST HAVE! FASTEST extraction app out there IF u have the pro version, takes FULL advantage of my quad core cpu, really fast extractions with this baby), printershare(print to any printer), alatino(translated lating texts for italian students:thumbup, wikidroyd(wikipedia offline, external sd card also), peliculas(streaming in many languages also hd, much like youtube works 90% of times, you just need to wait initial 40secs and have fast connection), tubemate(permanent cache/download videos off youtube), sygic, songza(music stream), wallpaper wizard(never have to resize wallpaper again!), gamecih(androids cheat engine app), double twist(great and simple music player, maybe better than the much loved poweramp), tasker(assign to android ANY task at ANY given time, or setup profiles of tasks!), draw rider+(cool little bike with stickman game, hard to beat), ics gallery(best image viewing app, simply cause it allows you to hide images by selecting an album and hitting hide, looked for it long before trying this old yet efficient app), flipboard, google currents, hf scientific calculator, + some warez apps i cant put here, gonna pm you.

stripping a rom?

hi,
i want to use my old SE Xperia ray as digital filo and need only basic funtions like
- the ability to install something calender app and live wallpaper
- wlan
- sync
what is save to remove from roms?
First of all, I don't really know what you mean by "digital filo", like a digital agenda or something like that? Either way, whatever you're going to do with it, choose what kind of applications you think you will need. If you will use it as a digital agenda you can rip the camera application, the browser, any music application, social media application(s) etc. This post might be able to help you to determine which applications are safe to remove.
How you remove the applications can be done in different ways, you could use a file explorer with root, you could use ADB, you could modify a ROM (ie. delete the files you won't need) and then flash it. Either way I'd recommend you to make a either a full backup of your system (Nandroid) or backup the application itself before deleting it.
Note: when deleting an application, also write down the permissions the file had.
I hope I've helped you in some way!

Thank you for the link explaining what filo meant, I Googled "filo" and didn't get any useful results, so thanks!
Other than that, the modem itself is necessary, because it doesn't only control the GSM radio, but also the WLAN radio. You're better off leaving such things and use the phone in airplane mode I think. You basically should be able to remove any application you want, just make sure you leave a launcher there and framework-res.apk (so you'll be able to use the phone) and of course any other applications that are of good use to you. Then again, take a look at the link I provided as it explains what each application does, I know it's not for the Xperia Ray but I think most of the applications will match the ones on the Ray.
sure it´s not for my ray but arc and ray are so close you can use most arc roms without problems on ray. :highfive:
then i will disable in TB all i think i can kill and see what happens.
thanks so far.
Jjdocter has already stripped a ROM down, I'll look it up for you
