Rooting Help - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've passed through these posts
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193695
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
actually I found it a bit complicated, too much files, instructions...
so, here is my firmware information

what I need is to make a root + CF root + also I need zImage to remove the yellow triangle.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks a lot.

Flash CF-Root of choice (from your firmware info) > flash stock kernel (to get rid of the yellow triangle) > then extract the CF-Root you flashed earlier (it should be extracted to a zImage) and open the cwm manager and select flash kernel then choose the zImage file..
Edit: dial *#1234# to know your phone info..

You need to flash KH1.zip to root. If you extract the .zip then you will get .tar file, which you should flash in Odin under PDA option. If you extract that .tar further then you will get the a zImage, which you need to flash via CWM which is already installed on your device with the option Flash Kernel.

PS- Sorry, it has already been answered above.

Don't forget to Flash the Stock kernel before flashing the zImage. You will get it from Intratech's thread in Dev section.
Also read the steps carefully before starting the process, in that thread I've posted above.

thanks
it works like a charm...
you are sooo great.

Current Fascinate User Trying to Recovery Vibrant

My friend tried to install something on his own and it went really ugly. His phone is stuck on Samsung screen and it's not doing anything. I'm trying to help him recover his phone using odin. His phone already has CWM recovery flashed but no nandroid(<~what an idiot!). I made sure all files on the picture are odin flashable.

1. Download mode to odin flash these files
PDA_JI6modem<~no pit file required, (stock kernel, T959UVJI6)<~ with pit file.
2. Manually open recovery, and I'm assuming it's going to be purple for factory recovery
-> push wipe data / factory reset.
Am I doing this correctly?
For fascinate, there was a odin flashable stock recovery tar file. Where is one for vibrant? Does vibrant require this?
Well......anyone?
There is a thread in the android development section that had the original JFD PDA file and pit file that will restore the phone back to stock. I had the same exact problem and using those files and following the directions I was back in working order in 10-15 minutes. Look in the Vibrant reference bible thread and if I remember correctly the thread was started by justanothercrowd. I hope that helps, good luck!

Problem with Kernel Ninphetamine/Speedmodkernel

Hello!
I have a problem with the Ninphetamine 2.0.5 or with the SpeedMod Kernel!
I have made a Re-Partition

XXKG6 and CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG6-v4.1-CWM4
After the Reboot i Flash the Ninphetamine Kernel with CWM and then i reboot in the Recovery with CWM
But there is only the normal Recovery without the Ninphetamine Channel?
What I am doing wrong? i have tried the XXKG3 too!
I am a noob Please help me
I have made a Re-Partition
Why ????
Ninphetamine Channel
Whats that can you provide a link ???
Have you tried the instructions to flash the kernel .
jje
I think you should follow the instructions very carefully
I have never seen any of the rom flashing guidelines to select PIT files and "select re partition"
If you do this mostly you might end up in brick
Suggest you first read properly and follow the instructions carefully
Read instructions properly or your noobness will f-u-ck up ur sgs2
You are lucky you did not break your phone. You are lucky that you did not try to overwrite the bootloader. Which is probably why your phone is not bricked yet.
According to your ODIN pic, you flashed a stock ROM (PDA), which also contains the kernel and the Samsung recovery.
Some custom kernel contains Clockwork Recovery, but cannot be accessed via HOME+VOL UP+PWR buttons. You need to boot into the ROM, then click the Clockwork program or reboot to recovery. It really depends on which kernel.
Anyways, you are absolutely right, you are a n00b that is highly trained at killing your own phone, but here are the steps.
Assuming you already flashed to a stock rom, you only need to replace the kernel.
Just boot your phone into DOWNLOAD MODE (Home + Vol Down + PWR)
Select PDA, and then select Speedmod kernel *.tar file.
Flash.
You should then check the ABOUT PHONE in your settings to see if you have the correct kernel.
Speedmod and Ninphetamine already have clockwork in it, you should be able to boot to Clockwork recovery by using the HOME+VOL UP+PWR buttons.

You are on stock 3e recovery, you need CWM recovery to flash zips.
Flash a kernel with CWM recovery, your best bet if CF-root, all info and downloads in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399

You have root, having root is not the same as having a kernel with CWM.
Flash CF-root (name of the kernel) and you will have root and CWM recovery.

[GUIDE] How to root Gingerbread

When I got my i9100, I didn't have any guides or tutorials to learn about root access. It was a trial and error process that I went through to further understand the process of flashing ROM's and gaining root. I have a little Linux experience so the term root wasn't new to me, but it is to the many users that flock here. In this guide I'll show you how to root Gingerbread using CF-Root.
Before I decided to write this guide, I was using CyanogenMod 9 but wanted to help the users of XDA, with the amount of threads I've seen asking for help rooting.
GINGERBREAD ROOT:
I'm using the stock ROM's for my country, Trinidad, rooting with CF-Root. That's to show people having all sorts of trouble finding a CF-Root kernel that even though where I live there's a kernel to use. It's not difficult.
Files used:
GT-I9100_TTT_I9100UHKI2_I9100UHKI1_I9100UUBKI2.tar
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_INU_KL1-v5.0-CWM5.tar
Odin3 v1.85.exe
Go to: CF-Root 5.5
- On your phone, dial *#1234#
- You'll see PDA, PHONE, CSC, pay attention to PDA and the last characters. In my case it's KL1.
- Using CF-Root's thread, look for a kernel matching those three digits (CTRL+F the search function).
- Download the matching kernel, flash using Odin.
HOW TO FLASH KERNEL USING ODIN:
1. Put the device into Download Mode, the device will accept anything that can be flashed using Odin.
To do this, hold down the following key combination:
Volume Down + Home + Power
Samsung KIES, does not need to be installed for Odin to recognise your device. However, the Samsung USB Drivers needs to be installed.
Once you've put the device into Download Mode, where it's ready to accept whatever you can throw at it, Odin needs to see it. When you plug the device into the computer, it will show up in the Message box saying 'Added!'.
For example:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Click PDA, select the CF-Root kernel you've deemed appropriate. Make sure to unzip the file or else Odin wouldn't be able to see it. It'll see the tar file though. It will not see the zImage inside the tar file.
This image is showing you where to put the CF-Root kernel to be flashed.
Start the process, it'll take less than ten seconds.
You've successfully rooted your device and replaced the stock recovery with ClockworkMod Recovery.
thanks for the info but i think you should move it to the general forum

Simple Steps to Root Without PC and Without loss of Stock Kernel
Removed.. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Haresh Gulvani said:
Hello,
Simple way to root and unroot stock kernel without flashing insecure kernel.
Don't worry about custom counter and yellow triangle, with this method they never appear, because we only rooting, it's a rooting script not a custom kernel.
This rooting script included Busybox installer.
Rooting :
Download this File first and put in your SDCARD
- CWM via stock recovery or download zip
- SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
Reboot to recovery.
Choose apply update from external storage.
Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.
Choose install zip from sdcard or external SD
Choose and Install SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
Reboot
You are done and now your device is Rooted
Unroot :
Download this File first and put in your SDCARD
- CWM via stock recovery or download zip
- SU-Uninstaller-Signed.zip
Reboot to recovery.
Choose apply update from external storage.
Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.
Choose install zip from sdcard
Choose and Install SU-Uninstaller-Signed.zip
Reboot
You are done and now your device is Unrooted
Tested on latest stock Galaxy S II ICS rom.
Tested on latest Galaxy Note by some user (thanks for report)
Note: This method should work for other device with ICS rom, check CWM that compatible for your device.
You can download all the zip files from this thread. ROOT/UNROOT ZIP Files
Thanks,

Ah, so you're the one who doesn't care about the xda-rules and allow this kind of questions here by answering them (although this is way more than what OP asked).
