I really wanna get a galaxy nexus but i'm guessing it would cost somewhere between 700-800 $ and that's out of my budget, i live in venezuela and the dollar is just too expensive , the actual cost would translate to 1400 $ , rigth now the galaxy s II is 550 $ unlocked in amazon, and i really wanna get it i can afford it ( again the real cost for me would be 800 $ ouch) , does anyone remember how long did it took for the original galaxy s to drop in price after the galaxy s ii was out?
A friend is going to the us this week so i wouldnt have to pay for the shipment to my country if she buys it for me, the shipment overseas costs like 40 $ , what do you guys think should i buy it now or wait till the nexus out is out?
Actually the nexus is gonna cost $800+ from retail stores. More than likely the sgs 2 will get a price drop. Personally i don't see any reason to get the nexus. ICS? Well samsung will release that for the sgs 2 soon enough. 720p screen? I don't need that much pixels anyways, and web browsing could hurt my eyes. Other than that the processor is worse than ours, the camera is worse, no sd card slot. Mhm, not much of an upgrade now is it?

I want the galaxy nexus mainly for the 720 screen, icons and fonts in galaxy s ii are WAY bigger than i'd like , possibly because of the low pixel density , also the non existant capacitive buttons sound real nice
Well if you do really want that 720p screen then by all means go ahead. However paying $800 just for a better screen isn't a very logical choice.

The galaxy s screen used pentile and it was neat, i dont think anyone will notice the pentile on the galaxy nexus tough, with that much resolution it would be nearly impossible to notice

You're right tought 220-250 extra $ for a better screen is outrageous :/
Thinking about this too.
SGS2 seems to be a better choice especially if it will cost much less. One major issue for me is the possible obsolescence of phones with hardware buttons. Hmmm

There has been similar threads, but I'll just go ahead and make a new one.
As my HD2 has came to an untimely demise, I'm currently stuck with my old Nokia E65, and I'm starting to wonder if it's really worth waiting for the Galaxy S II.
I could buy an Optimus 2X or an Xperia Arc today, do you reckon the Galaxy S II is so much better that it's worth being stuck with an aging symbian phone for (at least) a month? What would you guys do?
one-word. super-amoled-plus.
Why do you need sth better for a month? Just wait and get SGS2.
Use your Nokia as most people does - as a simple phone and don't expect too much. I'm sure you can stand without web browsing or quality games for a while. You still can phone anybody, text, make notes and check time ;D
BTW. take it easy, I'm in worse situation. As my E65 died I'm stuck with Nokia 6300 for a month waiting for SGS2. <facepalm>
It's only 1 month - 4 lousy Mondays, a few beers, maybe a read book or good PC game played. Don't think about waiting.
I now what you mean, i sold my iPhone in January, an has being on my backup "N95" forever i fill, first i was waiting for LG OX2,and then i heard about SGS 2, so I will wait until May with a smile.
I now what you mean, i sold my iPhone in January, an has being on my backup "N95" forever i fill, first i was waiting for LG OX2,and then i heard about SGS 2, so I will wait until May with a smile.
Sorry there is a lag.
Somehow your misfortunes makes me feel better. Thanks!
I will wait. It has better be worth it!
I'm waiting... I've been using the same terrible LG Vu for over 2 years now... I really hope this phone comes to USA soon.
I got slapped last time I said this, but RAM. I have been out of contract for 2 months, I can get the X2 or Arc as well. But Arc is single core with 512MB ram, and X2 as great as it seems only has the 512MB as well.
Of the two, the X2 is the winner hands down, and it already has a top notch set of devs working on it. (Look at Paul's work from MODACO)
If you can afford to upgrade in a year, then yes, the X2 is a great phone. I am so tempted by it, but I have spent almost 2 years trying to make the most of the I75000. It was almost enough to put me off Samsung for life.
We do not know what the community will be like for the Galaxy SII, but it has a dual core cpu, great screen, good battery and 1GB of RAM. So with a bit of work , it will be a good phone for a few years.
So time to stop rambling, yes, from someone else going nuts and being tempted left right and centre, wait if you can.

Take a look at it carefully before you praise it. It totally blurs shadow details on red colors.
you know what, i'll deal with a little bit of red over-saturation for the vibrancy you get with all the other colors of the spectrum. and if you're will to let that push you to slcd... well i just have no words for you.

i'm actually starting to get really itchy, i'm tempted to buy a nexus s for the newest updates - i do want to use it as an app dev phone - but it seems very hit and miss in terms of performance, but then there's touchwiz, which even at 4.0 looks terrible. there's nothing that the s2 does that the ns doesn't really do, only - at this stage - just a bit faster because only honeycomb can handle dual core processors...
plus, it'll be £100 cheaper, which would mean i recouperate my costs faster.
i'm just not sure the s2 would be totally for me.

Doesn't really do more ? Nexus S lacks of MicroSD & Flash LED, it should be a standard for a smartphone to have that now...
the nexus s has a flash led. the gs however, does not. no microsd? not an issue for me. 16gb of internal storage is more than enough for me - and really, for anyone.

I have 5 more days before to return my GS2. i have LOVED it, but im just thinking if i should just return it and get the new skyrocket? any help would be Very much appreciated. thank you
I say yes, love the big screen
Depends on what is important to you. Personally getting the Skyrocket was easy for me. I love the 4.5" screen.
If you care about benchmark stats, then the S2/exynos win.(the Skyrocket is still smooth as butter)
If you care about DPI then S2 wins, the Skyrocket has stretched the same res to 4.5", that said I came from the Infuse so it looks just as great as what made me purchase the Infuse in the first place.
If you have/will soon have (1-6months) LTE, then Skyrocket for sure.
Personally I also believe the Skyrocket will have a better resell value, due to LTE being upgraded over the next year. Anyone in an LTE city is not going to want someones S2 while the Skyrocket will likely still hold some value.
I don't know if it's just me, but going from a 4in screen (Captivate) to a 4.3in screen with the same resolution is not something I'm really liking. It's just everything becoming bigger on the screen. Going to 4.5in while keeping an 800x480 resolution is quite annoying.
I'm shocked Samsung didn't up the resolution for the GSGII line. Or atleast the Skyrocket.
qwertyaas
I agree. I wanted a bigger screen, not bigger buttons. Oh well. I'm still very happy with the ogsgs II.
Make a phone with a higher resolution and I'll be tempted.
But still the compatibility we have with the international version is awesome. One of the main points to appreciate about a phone is the dev support. Ogsgs II now has 'worldwide' support.

The Dev support is the major reason I picked up a SGSII on Sunday and not the Skyrocket. Coming from the Captivate, I know how Samsung and AT&T work. Firmware releases are lagged months behind the International version. Meaning, the SGSII will be getting i9100 ports while the Skyrocket might be waiting on AT&T or Tmobile to throw out ICS.
LTE is nice and all, but with my 2GB data I don't really stream videos at all. And the screen size is just getting too big for that resolution. It's one major reason I was considering the Vivid (until I held it in my hand).
The LCD Density can always be changed but it sometimes causes more issues than it fixes.
Samsung DOES have an HD version of LTE - AT&T too cheap to order it...?

Hey Qwerty...
Samsung did come out with an LTE version that has higher resolution, but AT&T didn't bother to order that unit in. In internation market it's known as the Samsung Galaxy SII LTE HD (720 X 1280 @ 720P)
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that AT&T wanted to keep the prices down for the initial offering of their LTE phones to compete with the iphone. Think $200 range and my guess is that the HD version will be priced too high to be competitive.
At any rate here are the specs on the HD version, please try not to salivate!

I saw that a while ago and was really hoping it would be released here. Sadly it's not, and I'm surely not willing to spend $600 on a phone off-contract!
If you have LTE in your area it's well worth the jump, data speeds are just insane. If you are expecting LTE sometime next year, I would assume there will be a better LTE phone available, probably with the higher res screen and possibly quadcore come summer of 2012
It's the same processor and size but higher density screen. But isn't it SAMOLED Plus so it is Pentile and not RGB I assume?
Anyone know where I can get it?
I was just at the AT&T store picking up a Skyrocket and noticed that the OG SGS2 isn't even out on display any more. It appears that they are pulling them already? Anyone else notice this? Did they decide to completely replace it already?

Some are pulling it temporarily to boast the Skyrocket.
And to the poster above, the SR and SGSII don't have the same processor if that's what you were referring to.
yea i think im gonna stick with my GS2 just on pure dev support. i just wish i would know if google nexus s was gonna come to att. and if so, when? then i could wait for that. that 1280x720 screen just is my golden ticket. i dont have lte network here and i doubt i will get it in the next 2-3 years.
Get the Skyrocket trust me you wont regret it, I didn't
There are just to many reasons on why you should get it, the LTE network is amazing. You may not have it but you will eventually. NFC is a great feature that once it gets going you will love it.
The screen is a really good as in the size, color, and everything compared to the ogsgs2 A large factor on the reason I think you should get it is the resell value, the phone is going to have a way greater resale value and once a better phone comes out that you absolutely want to get, you could easily sell the skyrocket for alot more than you would get for the ogsgs2.

Hi. I use a sgs2 i9100, wondering if galaxy note is worth it. I need bigger screen for big thumbs /keyboard. Or is HTC one X the better? No amoled, smaller battery and screen, but higher screen DPI count.
The Note cost around 900usd
Please let me know what you think if you have a g. Note and had a sgs2

Note is similar hardware to s2 aside from screen and higher processor speed but is huge. Seriously have you seen it? If screen size is your primary objective then you won't go wrong but ..
Depends on resolution vs bigger screen too. You get more screen real estate on an HD screen which neither the s2 or note have

Depending on what you're looking for and your timeles, we are currently into that cusp of the quad core releases so you could always wait for HTC One or possibly SGS2.

yeh, I should, as these days one can try the phones (remember back in the day when all you could touch was a dummy phone?). But no need to. I know the size and weight. Actually I had a HTC Desire HD, it was around same weight. It is about the max weight, it was one of the many reasons i dumped the DHD and went to SGS2 (protruding camera lens was as well)

Sure I've seen it. Haven't 'seen' the HTC one X though. Im wondering if 'super amoled' is worse that SGS2's super amoled PLUS. I've <mostly> read the SGN does last longer than SGS2, even though it has 5.3" (+1") screen.
Oh, so hardware is pretty much the same as the SGS2 ? does that then mean:
-headphone/jack audio volume just TOO low ?
- microSD/internalSD/externalSD/memory and those folders like /emmc is all messed up ?
If those problems are on the Galaxy Note, then I might skip it, and look at the HTC One X. Only, I don't like I cannot put a 64gb microsd in it.

Well, that's a kind of shock, the pen doesnt work on the capacitative keys ? On the other hand..those buttons are okay for a big thumb. I had a Nokia 5800, and lost the ridiculous stringy plastic stylus many times. (typing on its' 3.2" screen w/o stylus was a fight).
I'm not sure waiting is always good, it means more 'research' on more/newer models as usual, and yet more considerations..and waiting. At the moment I have no time, but by summer, yes, that would be great. So I can hope for a price drop on SGN . Wonder if there's gonna be some sort of Galaxy Note 2 ?
I also use phone (SGS2) for viweing boks, pdf's, and more, so a rise in DPI screen resolution would be splendid. The other choice I am comtemplating is to get a cheap netbook, but I'm warned that they are not up for the thing I do. (yet the SGS2 does it) Neither is it time to buy a notebook/tab for me right now. As the fiance has 3 damn notebooks, i'd like to stick with a PC and a phone, and skip any net/notebook/tab. Those are much more than 178 grams
thanks for the advice, If anyone can comment more on the particular display, super amoled vs super amoled plus, or simpler said SGN vs SGS2 displays.
does the huge 5.3" comsume battery like crazy, is a 2500mah battery inferior for that big semi-tablet phone?
is a step back from super amoled plus to super amoled hd bad ? they are both pentile matrix displays ?
The SGN does have 'HD' as in half-HD display (1280*800 = 720p), and it records full-HD. Correct ?

Well hello bigger forums I came from the Ace family and I have plans on buying SII. I've heard good rumours about the phone and I've seen lots of interesting roms for it too (plus it's on main forum XD)
My options are HTC One X, GNote or SII and SII is quite leading in my eyes ATM.
Last question is, what is the price of SII in the US WITHOUT the contract?
Thanks for the responses guys, hope to see you soon
S24Lyfe
it depends on whether you're looking for an unlocked phone (being able to use any network) or if you wish to purchase it outright from your current service provider.
Unlocked it's about $500-600, and prices will range depending on your carrier if you want to go for option number 2.
I personally own the S2 and I can honestly say I love this phone.
Took less than 5 minutes to root, plenty (and I mean PLENTY) of custom roms being developed for it, and the hardware itself is just great (it outperforms the iPhone 4s) - I highly recommend it.
Just my two cents.

I'll be going next week so I need to make decisions now.
SGS2 is still a good phone. I had it for just over 10 months and loved it.
Got a HOX now and love that just as much. HOX has the HD screen which is lovely. SLCD2 vs AMOLED. Amoled has better blacks and such but I like the SLCD2 as well. Whites are better and not prone to screen burns.
Hardware wise both are beasts. Dual Core vs Quad Teg 3. DC is still fast enough not enough optimising quad at the moment. With TEG3 you get the range of Nvidia games without the need for Chainfire.
Design wise HOX wins, it's sexy and sleek but the SGS2 is lighter and thinner. Both feel good in the hand.
UI wise, Sense wins for me personally, but TouchWiz is not as bad it has it's own feature set.
If you want the cheaper device go for the SGS2 as price is decent. You'll be happy with any of your choices. The Galaxy range of devices are far easier to root with their unlocked bootloaders if you want to go with custom roms and such and development is very active with HOX it will get active when more devs have it. I'd still rate the Note over the SGS2 as it's a beast, if you can handle the size then definitely get the note.
I agree, the note is excellent.

Thinking of getting S3, but obviously will be a price premium. Wondering if it will be worth it over the Samsung Galaxy Nexus?
Same size screen, removable battery, fair do only 16Gb on Nexus, few software features on S3. Anyone actually seen a S3 yet, is the screen as bad/good as people saying?
Is the screen completely different to Nexus, which is best?

There are quit a bit of software differences as Samsung added a lot of features to the SGS3.
The screen is added with Gorilla Glass 2, being thinner and allowing better visibility. http://mobile-review.com/review/samsung-galaxy-s3-fl-en.shtml
It's really up to you. The phone is nearly twice as powerful with a GPU close to 2.5 times more powerful as well. The battery life rating on GSMArena is rated pretty high also. It's a good solid phone and will be for 1 or 2 years with a good community and support.
The only reason to move to a SGS4 in the future might be for RAM, that is the only thing I didn't see a big jump for the SGS3.
The camera is much better as well.
I'd probably wait for the next nexus devices to come around with jelly bean.

Same size screen, removable battery, fair do only 16Gb on Nexus, few software features on S3. Anyone actually seen a S3 yet, is the screen as bad/good as people saying?
Is the screen completely different to Nexus, which is best?
Cheers

Nexus 4.65 inch -> S3 4.8 inch, also reported the S3's screen is brighter
Nexus dual core OMAP processor at 1.2GHz -> S3 Quad Core Exynos at 1.4GHz, very powerfull GPU
Nexus 5MP camera -> S3 very nice 8MP camera
Nexus 16GB memory -> S3 16/32/64 + 50GB dropbox + SDcard
Also what I like: the S3 has a wolfson soundchip like the S1, musicwise the S3 will be better then the Nexus as far as I understand.
Besides that, the S3 has software tricks the Nexus doesn't. I might have missed something but this is most of it. I don't know how big the difference is between the Nexus and S3, having a quad core might be good "future-proof" wise.
edit: forgot, removable battery (and bigger battery, 2100mAh)
One thing to consider is that Nexus is pentaband (i.e. works with the cheaper t-mobile prepaid) whereas s3 is not (to the best of my knowledge, anyway).
Another thing to consider is custom development; it's in the high now with the Nexus, and unlikely to be as active even when the S3 goes out in full blow.
Aside from these, I think the S3 has all the advantages, both hardware-wise and in terms of additional software (that you can remove later, if you don't like). The price premium is $200ish, but it's worth it for a long term device.
If you wait for the S3 to come out there's an okay chance the Nexus price would drop even further (though, to be honest, I'm not sure if it can beat the current google subsidy in the play store).
Being a Gnex owner I have to say I love it. Have the S3 on preorder as I have to have it, same will happen in November when the new Gnex comes to town. I don't keep my phones for long. To answer ur question I will have to say get the S3, if u want the ability to fully rock your phone with whatever and however YOU want then get a Google phone, they are first to get everything ie. updates, roms, themes, etc.
I have the Verizon version of the GNex. It's a great phone, but there's many things about the phone that make is sub-par, in my opinion.
I think the one good thing about it is it runs vanilla android 4.0.
With the S3, it's a huge upgrade from the GNex with a nicer screen, larger screen, better processor, thinner, better battery life (well compared to my LTE version), and I think I just looks much better. I'm sure it'll run smoother too, but that is yet to be decided as none of us have our pre-order units in our hot little hands yet.
On the flip side, GNex runs Vanilla Android while S3 run Sammy's TW UI over Android. Now, I was not/am not a huge fan of the previous version of TW on the S2, I think I might have different opinions about TW in S3.
I hope I'll like it, but I won't know until I get my phone
From my perspective, S3 all the way. Don't even consider GNex. If you want a GNex, I'd say get the next Google Android Nexus device with Jelly Bean, as other xda guys have mentioned.
My 2 cents.

This is probably beating a dead horse, but we don't know if it has nicer screen, until everyone has it and make comparison. It is still Pentile, which is okay, but it would need better quality control and not suffer from grey banding and/or dark spots and/or tinting which half of phones I had in my signature suffered from.
The Samsung is best phone ever
