If you flash the newer i777 leak that DG posted in the General section (I777UCKJ2) or went a little crazy and accidentally flashed one of the newer firmwares in the SGSII international section -- you'll find that they contain newer bootloaders -- the main difference being that they render the "jig trick" useless for resetting the custom firmware flasher.
This (if it works as advertised) will allow you to revert back to the older (stock) bootloader that will let the jig reset the counter.
Most likely as new ROMs are built for our phones, many devs will remove the bootloaders, since it's not really advisable to flash these unless absolutely necessary (which for instance it was on the Captivate when flash from a Eclair/Froyo ROM to a Gingerbread one).
Put this in another post too, but felt I should mention it:
Be forewarned -- DO NOT mess with or flash bootloaders unless you absolutely know what you are doing or are sure you need them. May things can be recovered from if things go wrong, but a bad bootloader flash can create a nasty "brick" that almost always needs some sort of professional help to undo.
i'm verifying that this really works. thanks bro.
Will this help with heimdall detecting the phone on Macs? I hear the bootloaders cause some Macs not to see the phone.

This reverts to current if you flashed the 2.3.5 leak package accidentally.
I would advise:
DO NOT flash this bootloader unless you have flashed a 2.3.5 leak or I9100 ROM that included bootloaders, AND you have confirmed by trying it that using the jig does not reset your flash counter.
If you don't have a jig, this does nothing for you except risk hardbricking.
If you have a jig and it works to reset the custom binary flash counter, this does nothing for you except risk hardbricking.

No. That was a problem with early I9000 bootloaders, and it didn't cause heimdall to fail to see macs - it would cause heimdall to potentially brick a phone.
That flaw DOES NOT APPLY to the GS2. As I stated above, if you have not flashed a bootloader before, this will do NOTHING except risk hardbricking.

th same heimdall flash entropy says in his threads and the output is ERROR: Claiming interface failed!
What kind of Mac are you using? IMac, MacBook, etc? From the reports I have seen from some of the Mac guys on this forum that error "failure to claim interface" is not being caused by your phone or heimdall, but is actually a hardware usb issue on your Mac. One person posted that it was particular to certain iMac models.
I have no way of verifying this, just what I've seen posted here, I would suggest trying a different computer, preferable a different model than yours.

Hey entropy, in case you have not ran in to this yet (although you probably already have this figured out) if you get anyone on LINUX saying they are getting lsusb or lsusblib error when running heimdall they just need to add su or sudo before the command or of they are running heimdall frontend they need to open it with admin privileges - I've seen this somewhere on these boards posted a couple times also

You don't need to borrow a pc.
Why not install "Bootcamp" into your Macbook?
Then you can install Windows XP into Bootcamp.
My friend did it and now it's not a problem using ODIN
or most any other other Windows applications.

I tried but I get the "some files can't be moved error". Which requires you to backup your hdd and reformat the drive. Which I don't have a big enough external to do so right now. I even tried VMs. My computer is deathly slow if I run anything above general use. I need more ram to run those VMs.

Me and my fiance both have Samsung gs2's, both rooted the same way using the same rom. I bought a USB jig to reserved the counter and it worked fine on my phone but when I tried to use it on hers it wouldn't clear the custom counter. And the top of the screen in download mode it says odin mode on my phone but on hers it says factory mode. Could that be the reason it's not letting me reset the counter? If so how do I get hers to say Odin mode?
Thanks Adam

Sorry to bump this thread, but I thought it better than creating a new one!
I've just bought a USB jig and encountered the same issue ('Factory Mode', etc). I figured that I may have to flash the old bootloader to get it to work, but I've got a couple of questions first...
1) Does it matter what bootloader I use? I'm currently running ICS 4.0.3 (the XXLPB leak).
2) What are the differences between flashing it via 'bootloader' and 'PDA'?
3) What are the odds of bricking my phone? I've read that bootloaders are what cause most issues.
4) Do I need to re-flash my current bootloader (wherever I'd find that) or will my phone run the same/differently with the old one?
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help. Still a bit new to all this!

Hey guys I need to return my phone to be fixed, but have a slight problem. The firmware is all stock except for when it boots up it says it is a GT-I9100. This is left from a previous flash that I did, but I went back to stock and never bothered to fix that, because it didn't really bug me. Now my phone won't recognize a charger or any usb plugs. My question is will Samsung/AT&T still accept my phone for replacement with this? If not is there anyway I can fix the boot screen without plugging my phone in? Thanks guys sorry for the noob question, but I am not really sure what to do and this is kind of a specific problem, so I couldn't find anything in the search. Once again really appreciate any help!

You're absolutely right. For some reason I thought you were stock rooted...my mistake. Use my second option then.
As long as you root it, you can use Mobile Odin. Not like it matters anyway, you just need to get rid of the GT-I9100 and then flash back to stock again, thus eliminating root.
Did Odin one-click back to stock not work for you? Because it sounds like you might have flashed I9100 bootloaders and flashing I777 bootloaders should fix it (which if I'm not mkstaken, the one click does include). Someone correct me on both points if I'm wrong , I'm simply conjecturing.

Yea I tried this, didn't work. I could probably get it into download mode, if I borrowed someones battery, but I am not sure why that matters if the computer won't detect it.
I finally got my phone to connect after cleaning it for like an hour, I just have to hold it at a certain angle. Everytime I try and flash the bootloader I get a fail though, I am using odin 1.8.5 and the bootloader here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18859438&postcount=199. That was my suggestion, I thought it might be an I9100 bootloader that he flashed which causes the GT-I 9100 to show up on boot, and he wants it back at stock for returning. Again I could be wrong, and of course flashing bootloaders is very dangerous, especially with your faulty USB connection (I didn't know it was faulty when I posted before).
EDIT: Did you ever try rooting so you can go the Mobile Odin route (which would be much safer)?

This first, please. This will tell you which bootloader you currently have.
If the usb connection is lost while the bootloader is flashing, the phone will hard brik, and will require jtag repair to recover, which costs about $50 to $60. Therefore, it is necessary to know what the phone status really is before taking that risk.
If you determine that you really do have the I9100 secondary bootloader, then you put the I777 UCKH7 sbl.tar in the PDA slot of Odin3 v1.85. Or you could flash the I777UCKH7-CL503881 FULL Odin3 One-click Downloader which includes the param.lfs and the secondary bootloader.
Mobile Odin will not flash bootloaders or param.lfs

Whenever I try to do this with odin it fails . I think I just need the one click with bootloaders, but I can't find it.
A touch on the disappointed side after getting no response to my other thread I'd like to ask some questions.
My newly acquired sgs2 is running 2.3.4 and, like many here I'd like to try some custom roms.
Am I right in thinking I need to flash a stock ics or jb through odin or heimdall?
My current pc runs linux and I've been having trouble with getting the right package as each one throws up an error mostly alone the lines of 'firmware.xml does not exist' from heimdall.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a heimdall compiled package as all the ones I've found give an error.
OR
Can anyone provide me with a pc-less way of rooting and flashing from 2.3.4 to some custom rom or something.
I've tried searching here and google but can't find what I need.

You may well have been disappointed to not get a response to your previous thread, however, you should have bumped that thread rather than make a new one.
I'm not sure why you'd think you'd be more likely to get a response to another thread with the exact same query ? (It is Xmas after all, a lot less people passing through here). Besides, very few people use Heimdall. That's why you didn't get a response (And why you won't get an answer from me; I simply don't know because I've never used it like 95% of people here).

Thanks. Didn't really occur that xmas caused the lack of response. my bad.
On the other notes. The only pc-less root method I've found is for ics not gb.
Also, I had already tried bumping the other thread but got no reply at all. That's why i decided to start a new one with a more accurate description of my requirements.
I'll happily put it down to people not being experienced with heimdall.
Thanks for the pointers.

If my memory serves me correctly, I could have sworn there was an Odin-less exploit that worked on GB <2.3.5 (forget the details; never used it myself).
OK. Now that you've got this thread up & running and the previous one has gone to heaven, I suggest you bump this one maybe 2-3 times a week until you get a response (daily would probably be overkill). Eventually someone who uses Heimdall will read it. Or you could find a Windoze PC & use Odin & do the job in a few minutes.
Or...(I just had a lightbulb moment as I was about to hit 'submit')...What about trying to run Odin under Wine ? It might be a bit risky given if Odin crashes halfway thru the flash you could easily bork your phone permanently. But if you don't get a response to this thread re: Heimdall and you can't get access to a Windoze machine, and you're really desperate to do it......
Ok. I'll keep hunting for that exploit.
Just so wean exhaust all possible options. I tried using wine and virtual box back in the day with sgs1 with no success
May work now 2 years down the line.
Ill leave this now till after the festivities.
Thanks again.

Is there anyone who can help me on this.
At my parents for a few days so will probably flash with odin to ics. Is there anything other info i need other than flash Rom under pda with reparation unticked and no pit file? I read somewhere that after flashing it will hang on sgs2 boot logo and you have to enter recovery, full wipe and reboot to get to the rom.
Btw I'll probably go for a 4.0.3 based stock rom and root at a later date if needed.
Cheers

yeap, root you device (it's a piece of cake in GB), download mobile odin and you are good to go.
you might wanna read some stuff about flashing, you really don't wanna flash a wrong ROM.
In that case can you direct me to a none pc root method for gb? I've hunted all over the place without success
Does mobile odin work in the same way that you have to select the file and whatever repart/reboot options you want.

I went to bed last night and the phone worked fine, CM 10.1 nightly. Overnight it must have crashed and I woke up to find it off. I started it up and it asked for a password for encrypted storage (I don't have encrypted storage). I rebooted it again and found it stuck on the GS2 screen and left it for 10 min or so. I tried rebooting again and same action.
I then put it in download mode and it is on the screen but I am not able to see the device on my computer. Ubuntu 13.04.
fastboot devices shows nothing.
Ideas?
Do you have SGH-I777? There is no fastboot on this phone. You would have to use download mode with Odin on a windows machine, or with Heimdall on Linux. You would have to have the correct USB driver installed, but I don't know Linux or what you need there.

It's a little out of my experience, since I don't use Mac, and have used Heimdall only with windows. Some have reported having issues getting Heimdall to work with some versions of Mac OS, but I couldn't tell you the specifics. You might have to search out the answers.
Or, maybe it would be easier to borrow a windows machine and use Odin which definitely has less issues.

Try to use one of the USB ports in the back of your machine. I had to restore using creepy's file a few months ago and had trouble at first, was taking way too long for Odin to recognize.
Just like your problem.
Once I moved to the rear port the Odin process worked perfectly, so maybe it will for you.
One other thing - make sure you have an i777 before using the files; Creepy asked you but I don't see where you've replied to that.

I have tried two different ones in three different usb ports on two different computers.
I tried running as administrator, compatibility mode, leaving it for hours. It is definitely seeing the phone and attempting to push it but failing without giving an error message.

Then it sounds like you need to try another file, for whatever reason creepy's isn't working for you.
Try Entropy's UCKH7 PDA/tar files in the stickies in the development thread. If that doesn't work I don't know what will.

I'm trying to buy a cheap smartphone for my girlfriend. Just bought a used Vibrant from eBay only to find it had an IMEI blacklisted by T-Mobile. Already had put CM 10.1 on it and she loved it so I'm pissed.
Any tips for buying a decent used smartphone for under $100? Vibrant seems like one of the best and I'm partial to Samsung. Any recommendations for the fastest Android 4.x ROM with the best battery life for the Vibrant?

I'm having a really hard time reflashing to stock. All the write-ups seem to be out of date. I tried the AIO Vibrant Toolbox 2.5 and can't get the phone to show up in Odin. Then I tried these instructions:

What's the best version of Odin to use currently? Is there a simpler, reliable way to flash back to stock from CM?

Are you putting the phone into download mode before connecting to Odin? You must be in download mode, I prefer Odin 1.7, every other version hangs on me for some reason. I always follow the guide below, never messed with AIO toolbox. Follow this guide to get back to stock JFD (2.1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028

Yeah, had the phone in download mode and was using Odin 1.7. I have the latest Samsung drivers for WIndows installed, and when I mount the SD card the phone shows up properly. That guide you linked to was one I tried. I couldn't get the phone to show up with "adb devices" either, but that was working before I installed CM 10.1. This stuff is so finicky it's frustrating. I've wasted countless hours on three different phones over the past few years, but overall it's worth it to get a better OS.

I assume your running Odin with administrator privileges, if not try that. Maybe try flashing a different rom, a stable rom could fix the issue. Make sure USB debugging is checked, shouldn't affect Odin but worth a try.

Yeah, tried running as admin.
I just tried Heimdall One-Click, and got the error they mentioned:
Do not flash bootloaders if you see this message:
Code:
Local and device PIT files don't match and repartition wasn't specified!
This message means your partition tables do not match the firmware.
You will need to use Linux to repartition with this firmware package. Install Ubuntu. In Linux, you can copy-pasta this into the terminal to correct the repartitioning problem and then flash bootloaders. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17485056&postcount=23

Seriously? I don't want to install Linux to flash this phone back to stock! No way to do this from adb in Windows or from within a rooted phone? Maybe I'll just return with with CM installed; the phone is basically a wifi device only unless the seller decides to change the IMEI and resell.

Try re-installing the driver for the phone.
I'm not sure if they changed it in the newer versions of CM but after a certain version you actually need the drivers for the Nexus S rather than the Vibrant for ADB to work properly.
(Someone correct me if this is no longer true)
