Hi folks,
I'm hoping to pick your brains for advice and info on the Evo 3D.
I'm an ex HTC Desire owner and HTC Sense fan, after selling my desire I bought a sim free Incredible S, but after trying 3 different handsets all 3 were returned due to signal loss on the O2 network.
I'm now looking for my next phone (sim free non contract) and I'm struggling to settle on a good one! I thought I was set on the standard HTC Sensation, but after seeing numerous mentions of 'dust under screen', poor battery life, death grip etc, I have to say that I've just about given up on it.
The other phone on my list is the Samsung Galaxy S II, however it's not going to have HTC Sense and I'm not a great fan of Touchwiz. I've also just seen mention of a screen burn type problem which is a bit of a concern. The other specs look quite good for the phone though.
This evening I stumbled on the Evo 3D forum! The phone looks quite nice, it has Sense, it has 3D features which don't really interest me. I also spotted a couple of familiar names in the rom dev section, LeeDroid and Baadnewz .... I thought you guys had Sensations?
So after all that waffle, what I'm really after are your opinions on the Evo 3D, what would you say are the pros and cons, what should I be aware of?
Would you still recommend the Evo 3D, given what you know now from your own experience?
Thanks very much!
I got the EVO3D mainly because I wanted to get the Sensation but I read a review that said ther EVO3D was very similar - so I went for it.
I'm happy so far - I feel as though I have an upgraded Desire HD in all aspects. The phone is probably not as fast as the SGSII, and doesn't have an 8mp/1080p camera, but other than that it seems pretty solid so far.
How's the battery life with yours?
The battery life is roughly 50% better than with the DesireHD. It lasts me through the day with no issues.
I'd wager it'd last 1.5 days in most scenarios
Any advice from other Evo owners?
I came from the EVO 4G. The 3D is faster, has more storage, and better battery life. I would recommend using a good ROM (like Warm 2.3 when its final) and maybe playing with some Kernels to get even better battery life. The 3D features are pretty useless to me personally.
A have seen at least two XDA posters in the Mynion threads talk about getting the GSII and then deciding to go back to HTC with the 3D. If you plan on using stock roms, Samsung's TouchWhiz (or whatever they call it) is far inferior to the work HTC has done with the Sense UI. I hate Samsung's proprietary UI stuff. If you plan to flash custom ROMs anyway, this isnt as much of an issue. I also feel like HTC is quicker/better about getting updates out timely and supporting aging devices. Samsung "has been" notoriously bad enough this.
Sensation been great for me but every device is different so base your purchase on what works for you. Every phone has a batch of bad phones so get insurance and get a phone there all the same at the end of the day. And like he said it so many kernals out there that
fit your needs that you'll be happy with anyone I those phones.

Just to clarify, does the Evo have the antenna as part of the back cover like the Sensation and Incredible S do?
Any death grip problems? Any screen issues, i.e dust getting under it?
Thanks again.
I came from the Evo 4g and have seen a night and day difference in the battery life. I can go the whole day with no issues. I also have rooted it and currently have Virus' Eternity 1.4.2 rom and stock kernel. The speeds are decent with the stock kernel and the battery life is good which is the main reason I haven't switched kernels yet. I recommend the 3d. I like the capability of watching 3d movies on my phone since I'm on the go most of the time it gives me the ability to watch 3d movies on a plane or where ever else I might be.
i too came from an evo, but i absolutely love the 3vo! at first i thought 3d was just a gimick, but it makes this phone a true show piece! processor is a nice lil upgrade to 1.2 which is plenty enough. plus....you can't beat the development on it! good luck!
Hi there. i have used both sensation and evo 3d
These 2 are both good phone, but, i liked the evo 3d much more for
1- the grip is far better from the sensation which have a nice design, but, not so comfortable to hold ( a bit slippery ) while in sensation you will feel much comfortable grip.
2- the response speed with sensation is beautiful and faster that the sensation.
3- the 3D screen is really nice. try downloading some videos and see for yourself. I personally liked it for videos and photos.
4- battery is good. It lasts a day without any problem with fair usage and data on.
I would vote for the evo 3d no dought. it is a very good device
Thanks
What do the Evo owners think to the still and video camera comparisons shown in the link below, would you say it's a fair representation? The Evo camera doesn't look so good in the review.
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_evo_3d_vs_htc_sensation_4g_head_to_head-review-626.php
The Sensation camera is a bit better of course, but, i did not see that the evo camera is not good.
i like the quality which i am getting from the camera. it is pretty good unless you want a unprofessional pic, then you will need a pro camera.
in summery the shots you get is pretty good since it is a phone cam not a pro cam.
I liked the clarity and colors
still it is a personal preference in the end and that was my opinion
I hope i was hepfull
I'm seeing conflicting information regarding the 2D video recording, some info states that the Evo records at 30fps, but I've also seen 24fps mentioned. Can anyome confirm either as being correct?

Hi, Evos!
Coming from a Galaxy S2 (verdict: terrible) I now own a HTC Sensation, which I am very happy with - I think it is a truly great phone, I even like the stock software (although I prefer ADW Launcher EX to Sense), and especially love the form factor and ergonomics of the phone. Battery life is pretty "sensational" as well (with HTC Sense-sync disabled, but everything else, like push-mail or IM clients, as-is).
Unfortunately, I seem to have bad luck as my phones display has gotten defective - my merchant would either allow me to replace the phone or get a full refund. Choosing the refund would allow me to wait for the HTC Evo 3D GSM-release, which is very soon.
So my questions are: How is day-to-day with the Evo 3D? Judging from the pictures, I am a bit worried about the phone feeling bulky compared to the Sensation (which has a much more round contour). What are the expectations for the developer-scene? The Evo 3D seems to have more interested programmers behind it than the Sensation.
I would love to hear your impressions! I am especially interested in hearing opinions of XDA users who own both phones, or have had access to both phones. Thanks!
i have not played with the Sensation but I was surprised at how the phone feels in my hand, which is very nice. It has good weight but doesn't feel bulky. I came from the HeroC and was a little worried going from one that was small to one that was so big. But I have barely even noticed. As for day to day usage, I think it works great. I haven't had battery problems unless i sit and play some big game for a couple of hours.
It's great, size wise: the EVO 3D is chunkier (The version Europe will get could be thinner, our CDMA powered phones tend to be thinker, also battery life on your EVO will be better than ours & your Sensation, as it packs a bigger battery. The Sensation feels better in the hand but the EVO 3D isn't uncomfortable at all, its better in the hand than the EVO 4G was.
We have fewer hardware issues & our software issues were addressed fast, it could be HTC or Sprint, I'm not sure but updates have been pretty swift.
Again this could vary with the EUR EVO 3D.
The Developer scene is good, some minor things may be interchangeable now but once the bootloaders come loose, ROMs won't be interchangable with this section.
Thats not to say you won't get great development when it lands. Its a waiting game as it stands.
You'll like the dedicated camera button, bigger battery, the 3D, the Extra ram & the slightly better processor.
Vondafone should be the 1st to get it I think. An unlocked one should come later if you're gonna stay on Austria Telecom.
I so far love it. Feels good in my hand very solid feel. the haptic touch is very tight and screen is responsive to everything.
What was the downfalls of the Galaxy 2 since most sites are trying to say its a step up from the EVO 3d/Sensation.

If you don't mind me asking (and not to stir the topic off course), why did you rate the SGS2 as terrible? I would appreciate the feedback.
I currently own the evo 3d, it is a great phone. Feels great, runs FAST, and the battery life is great for myself. You can't go wrong with it. The extra ram compared to the sensation is nice as well.
Thanks for all your responses so far, I really appreciate the feedback! I am strongly considering waiting for the Evo 3D, I think I may be able to bear the Nexus One for a few more weeks - it seems so tiny now

I think the Samsung Galaxy S2 has quite a few very significant downfalls/design problems. While in theory a great phone (fast, very thin design) these did push my decision to buying a Sensation:
low display resolution: 800x480 is no longer enough for me - fonts get much crisper and more readable with qHD, websites display a much larger area, list views are better. The Sensations/Evo 3Ds higher resolution makes all the difference, improves the quality by a lot.
extreme colour banding: The S2s display shows an extreme amount of colour banding, apparent in almost all applications. Better black levels aren't worth such atrocious colour reproduction.
uncomfortable ergonomics: Yes, the design is very slim, but that comes at a price: The thin edges make the phone pretty uncomfortable to hold, long calls are awkward due to the sharp upper edge, very close to the speaker. The hand-feeling is very off, compared to the cushy Sensation.
TouchWiz is absolutely terrible: What Samsung did to Android is extremely sad - their launcher apes the iPhones launcher, including all of its faults (no sorting of apps by alphabet, unelegant). The TouchWiz stock-android-replacements (calendar, email, music) are all of atrocious quality, including glaring bugs or featuring terrible usability.
I cannot speak to the GS2, but coming from the Epic to the EVO 3D, I have a thought.
It seems that samsung makes some really great hardware, but their software/support is minimal at best.
HTC in comparison seems to have much stronger support in terms of apps, widgets, and just overall Android enhancement. Not only was touch wiz anemic as far as features go, but it seemed to lock out any other customization.
For example, i couldn't find any sort of lock screen app/widget/customization that would replace the stock locker. instead, it sorta came either before or after the samsung lock. The Epic just seemed hard to tweak/customize, and they offered no worthwhile widgets or apps of their own. Stock Clock? Weather Clock? The froyo update finally allowed some sort of location-aware weather, but that was barely functional at best.
It also appeared that, while samsung, on the surface, had the better hardware, the OS and apps did not seem to take proper advantage of the better CPU/GPU setup. Now, I did try the leaked gingerbread, and it was a significant improvement. However, there were stability issues that kept me away. Plus, i had no faith that the Epic would continue to get support and upgrades. I think that Samsung/Sprint would rather push the new hardware rather than risk cannibalizing new sales by upgrading previous products.
So, overall, samsung/sprint have left me very skeptical of any future purchases, not because of quality or hardware, but because of the policies and behavior of the manufacturer.
By the way, while this appears to be off topic, I should mention that I currently have an EVO 3D, which makes the epic look like an unpolished toy at best. And I think the Epic is great, but totally mismanaged/underutilized.
Well I think the gs2 is a nice phone.
However I both chose and love my EVO3d because...
I started android day 1 with g1. It was a work horse. Everything worked.
Eventually I went to the Samsung Vibrant. The damn phone had a great screen. But never worked right.
It never got updates. Took forever.
Moved on to the g2x. It had potential. But my phone would heat up to the point I had to take it out of my pocket. Once in a meeting and luckily my boss was willing to hear me out and felt it. She just said damn. You need to get exchanged.
My wife could not get hers to switch from data to WiFi . No matter the amount of resets. Ever.
Tmobile sent refurbished phones. The phones were 18 days owned. they tried to replace brand new 18 days owned purchased full out phones with refurbs.
We left to Sprint and got the EVO3d.
Mine is all love and good. Hers has a signal issue. Hers has to be returned.
We have issues. We went through wirefly. They need 250 to return a phone. Then they refund. We can't afford that. 4 kids.
So I'm worried wirefly just sold me a defective phone and I won't be able to get a working EVO
Sprint says hers has never connected right to the network. It doesn't stay connected.
It's a defective unit.
If it wasn't for that we would be as satisfied as we were with our g1's.
The phone is great.
I've played a plenty with the sensation. Pretty much the same. But when you power up the sensation its smooth for a little. The you open the internet. Or xda. It keeps that running in the background cache.
Then you see that jittery effect.
The EVO3d does not suffer the jitter type problem. Ever. It is just smooth.
Honest.
3d movies. Wow.

Another Galaxy negative: As someone who always carries a spare battery and therefore exchanges it regularly (when needed), the flimsy SGS2 back cover was pretty unnerving to me - especially combined with the much worse battery life I experienced with that phone, compared to the Sensations pretty excellent runtime.

I am not all that exalted about HTCs decision to have a one-month Vodafone/A1/Swisscom exclusivity period before the unlocked release. But I will probably wait the wait for the SIM-free option.
I am eligible to upgrade my phone and I will just like to know if I should upgrade to the Evo 3d or stay with my Evo 4G.I know is a dumb question but I just want to know what you guys think.thanks
What will you use it for? If just phone calls and or flashing roms...then no...evo been around for awhile and works good. If you need to flash you have tons of customs roms. The evo still holds itself well among phones. But, it you want a kick ass phone that is now not really mod able but will be soon...or desire faster, better and IMO opinion...a really good phone..then yes. I bought the phone for cash...I did not have a upgrade coming until november...when I bought..I knew there was no flash able roms yet..and was not really usable with titanium or root explorer...now that is not the case but I really miss flashing. I have no regrets..the 3d feature is a nice feature..and battery life on this phone is much better than my OG evo. Currently loving the better screen also.
Better screen, faster processor, more RAM, better everything. Once the bootloader is unlocked this phone will explode with ROMs. If you are eligible and have the money, there should be no question.

Go play with one, if it excites you buy it. Never buy anything that doesn't excite you.
3D
I'm Going To Agree With Everything Said Already, But Add One More Thing. Look At The 3D Aspect As An ADD-ON. I Think The Reason The Review's For This Phone Are Lower Than Expected Is Because The Reviewers Thought That 3D Was All The Phone Had To Offer.
This Phone Is A Lot More Than Just 3D, And When We Get S-Off, This Phone Will Be The Best.
There is a lot that I don't like about this phone but i still have a problem getting rid of it. If it were me I'd hold off till more bugs vet worked out and the hardware becomes better. I'm on my 3rd 3d and each one has had different problems. The current one has screen lock up.

Ive had 3 3Ds as well (one I exchanged for another) I did have a problem with one but the other 2 work perfectly. I think the 3D is a truly awesome phone in every way including the 3D part of it. The only thing I dont like is that the screen isnt as wide as the 4G. I know its cause the aspect ratio is 16:9 and the resolution is higher but I miss it. I still would trade it for a 3D in a second.
It depends on what your looking for and how long you want to wait. Personally I love the 3vo. But Sprint is getting some other high end phones (photon, within aka gsII, possibly a nexus in November...) and your og EVO will easily last till those phones come out. I couldn't wait any longer cuz I love the latest and greatest so I got the 3vo
stay with the evo 4g wait for a better phone to come out I hate my 3d data speeds suck I when back to my evo 4g and data is great again

Just because you don't personally like Motorola or Samsung doesn't mean they aren't good products... I like HTC best but other manufacturers do have advantages in certain aspects. And he never specifics about just evos. Although I did re read his post and it doesnt ask about upgrading later. All I'm saying is theres no need to flame I was just trying to be helpful like everyone else here.
Coming from an EVO myself I like this one a lot, I miss the kickstannd but I do like it that is a bit longer and less wide easier to hold on the hand, we don't have roms but they are some themes a lot good ones too so you don't need to depend on HTC for them zone23 came from the EVO as well, teamwin, I haven't seen any other developers tho, battery life is better RAM helps a lot duel core is nice but i don't think is use completely with OS and we're pretty sure we getting ice cream update, HTC sense if you like it on the EVO you will love it here , sure myn, ava and xxxvirusxxx and other developers has done a great job with synergy but having out the box works amazing , I sold my EVO with extras for 160$ ( broken digitizer ) and I pay like 56$ with tac more and I'm happy not missing root to much cause there is a lot cuztomization on the stock sense hope the helps
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
Honestly
I think the 3vo is a better overall phone. Honestly I was able to sell the EVO stock for $250 so I actually made money off the upgrade. But the 3vo is in my opinion faster and a better phone. If you can deal with not being able to root it yet, which for some is a dealbreaker then its a no brainer in my opinion
3VO has a higher resolution and much faster processor. Right now you can Oc'd to 1.8 if you want too. It's amazing. And you still have the customization of adw ex. I came from EVO og and was flashing roms all the time. This just works so fast and well out of the box. The speed and resolution are what's really keeping me with the 3VO. I don't think I can do a lower res like gs2 ever again.
Hi I've been sneaking into this forum every so often. I have a s2 and love it but also love technology so looking now at 3d i've looked at evo and lgs version but don't know if it's worth the update to 3d. I also love sense and on some reviews the evo is flawless in speed..
What do you users think?
What score does it get on quadrant
Also if you take a picture or video in 3d can it be converted back to 2d for printing and viewing on pc
Thanks in advance

All pictures can be viewed in 2D as well and it usually asks to convert to 2D when emailing. Not sure about the video, I do not take much video in 3D.
SGS2 scores higher in Quad but that is really nothing to go by.
Evo 3D camera shutter lag is torture and makes any moving object impossible to shoot. I am looking forward to the better camera on the SGS2.
Either way, they are both top of the line devices and you can't go wrong with either.
You also have to think, we are EVO 3D owners and are excited to try something new. It doesn't mean the SGS2 will be better for us, I think at this point we are just hoping it is. We will know for sure come next week though.
i always had good experiences with samsung phones...
until they started making "smart phones"... they aren't very smart about it.
the phone has great hardware, yes. but samsung phones lack the support that HTC has from them to us (the consumers). HTC is ALWAYS right on top of problems that arise, while samsung is a little more like sprint in the customer service department. kind of like "if somebody complains, we'll deal with it. if not, whatever."
I have owned 4 samsung phones. three of them were flawless and perfect. the most recent, however, was a samsung moment. that thing was a nightmare. and i got no help from sprint or samsung with it.
stick with google nexus phones, or HTC. that is my new mode now. and i love the hell out of my 3D by the way. nothing this thing can't handle, and it will only get better as more software is dev'd for it in the hacking community.
**edit... to the OP, it is extremely important that you remember this one thing... the software inside the phone is just as important to the performance as the hardware...
I have both I decided why do I have to choose someday I pop the sim in the evo somedays the galaxy s2, beautiful screen very then and fast, but I gotta admit I have little more fun playing with the evo 3d.

Can you please give more detail.....What makes the 3D more fun? How do the screens compare? Is the Evo's qhd display overshadowed by the Super Amoled Plus screen even though it has a lower res? Does the SGS2's camera have the shutter lag like the 3D?
The UI is just enjoyable on the e3d. And its very fast ..the differences in that regard is neglible..quadrant is useless except for fps and for evaluating your own phone after flashing a rom etc. The shutter lag isn't terrible it just isn't instant and I'm sure it will be improved with an update eventually ..I for one have taken nice shots with the e3d but yes fast moving objects can be hard to capture but most smartphones suffer from that ..either way you would have a super phone and def ahead of the curve ..software has a ways to go to catch up to the hardware within these devices
I actually love the SGS2. I got one in Mid June or July as the EVO 3D wasn't available here in Asia yet. I have no regret in getting the SGS2 first as it's one POWERFUL phone. But I bought the EVO 3D just last week and REALLY ENJOYING the built, solidness, and the 3D features. I love watching 3D Youtube even though it looks like it's damaging my eyes LOL! But if you were to read text alot, the EVO 3D is sharper as it has a higher resolution. Colors aren't comparable to the SGS2 due to the super amoled plus display. So you can't go wrong with either of them. Both has different features, etc. I just can't pass up the idea of not having both of them as it won't be fair to one or the other
i dont like the colors on the amoleds. yeah blacks are great but but the other colors kill me. the whites on my evo3d shine compare to my nexus.

I'm a sense lover, so the EVO 3d fits my needs well. I'm also easily satisfied, and as long as it does what I want it to do, I'm good. I live in big city where 4G is ubiquitous and fast, tho I'm mostly on 3g to save battery. Whenever I need to download large files or watch youtube vids tho, 4G always does me good.
I have yet to mess with my phone, so everything is stock. Sense UI is pretty, but also fast. I do a lot on my phone as I'm mostly away from my computer. From online banking to watching movies, to playing games, to navigating the city, to listening to streaming music, and much more. This phone makes it all happen.
I know if I had the sgs2, I'd be doing the same things on it, and be raving about it as well. But I have this phone, so I make the best of it.
3d is awesome to me. People are always delighted to see it. And it gives the phone a special niche. At first tho, my eyes did hurt after prolong viewing, but I can honestly say after almost 3 months of having the device, my eyes don't hurt anymore. It's like evolution. My eyes have adjusted to it.
The only thing I hate abt he EVO 3d is that while charging, it slows down. I feel the difference. Its like night and day. Other than that, its an awesome Android phone, and as long as you don't have hardware or software related problems with the phone, its a very delightful and enjoyable experience.

I also have both. I got the S2 about 8 weeks ago and love it but I was torn between it and the sensation at the time. So when the Evo 3d was launched here in Canada I broke down last week and pick it up. Both phones are great.
I am going to be getting an android phone and I have some time on my existing contract. I like the EVO 3d but am wondering what your opinions are about waiting for the galaxy s2 LTE? I called Rogers today and they said they have no idea when it is coming out. I think over all the EVO seems like a great phone but I don't care about 3d so thats not an issue.
Your opinions would be great
Your American cousin from the U.S. says: Yes!
up to you, since you posted in the evo 3d forum, im gonna say get the evo 3d.
NOPE!!! We all hate it! (sarcasm)
Just playin'... I have personally played with an SGS2 and a Thrill plus my wife has the Evo 4G. Also my wife had the Inspire and I had an Atrix on AT&T. I would never trade my 3D for any of them.
Just my opinion though. Do what you like best.

You don't tell it, you must use buttons....Duh...
Over this past two months. I own the Photon, Galaxy S II, and the Evo 3D. Here is a quick rundown of what I like/dislike about each phone
Photon Pros: Tremendous battery life, extremely great signal, Great Camera
Cons:Screen seems "pixelated" but I got use to it. Better in sunlight than the Evo 3D, NO DEVELOPER SUPPORT as of now(This is a big no no for me)
Galaxy S II Pros: 4.5" screen Sprint's version, Best looking screen but the resolution made all the icons look big, screen is great in sunlight. Light weight and thin, battery life
Cons:No developer support as of now, back cover is plastic
Evo 3D Pros: 3D camera I really only use it to watch Youtube clips in 3D. Great Developer support which is a big big plus for me since I constantly need to flash different roms
Cons: worst 2d Camera out of the three. It's not horrible but it's just avg and not good like the Photon or great like the Galaxy S II, battery life is avg I usually get 14 hours out of it before it completely drain
Hope this helps and for your info I just switch back to the Evo 3D today because the Evo 3D has the best developer support out of all the phones!!!!
hi, I'm looking to upgrade my photon to HTC EVO 4G LTE
does anyone here own both of the phone ?
and can you give me some inputs ?
what I'm really want to know is :
-voice quality / earpiece sound quality (the photon is the very good if its not the best ear piece on a phone that i have ever owned before)
-battery life ( i use seidio extended battery on my photon, so i want o know what to expect from the non removable battery of HTC)
-radio reception strenght ? (again the Photon is one of the best in this department as well)
i want to upgrade because :
-im tired of waiting for the ICS on the photon
-and though the seideio battery is awesome , but the bulk is quite noticeable
-and the photon screen is terrible IMHO (can't hurt to change to 720p 4.7" screen NON PENTILE)
actually i also considered the Samsung galaxy SIII but i've never been a fan of samsung, and to me their build quality is not so good, and the material used is feel kind of cheap
and also i hate the touch wizzz i've always been a fan of SENSE but because the EVO 3D have bad radio reception, then i bought the Photon, which is an awesome phone.
anyway , can please somebody gimme some inputs ?
thank you so much.
I currently have the Photon, Evo 4G LTE and a Galaxy S3.
The Evo LTE is an elegant phone, but it's honestly not a lot better than the Photon in terms of functionality and speed.
When swapping between the phones I am reminded of how fast the Photon is, and it just fits in the hand. The two more recent phones are bulky and more difficult to operate with one hand.
My particular Evo has a bad antenna (just shipped it off to HTC for repair), so it kept dropping calls. But voice/call/radio quality on the Evo is really nice otherwise. In fact voice quality is the best I have ever used I think. And the screen is great! And the Evo's camera is super. Battery life is also very good!
On the downside the Evo feels fragile to me, unlike the Photon. Photon feels sturdy, and rubberized so it doesn't slip out of the hand very easily. Evo is slippery. Add a case and it's even bigger...
For the record, although the Evo and GS3 use the same chip, the GS3 is much faster all around. Lots of things, like voice to text, are faster on the Photon. ICS slowed that functionality down for some reason. The Photon translates sentences MUCH faster.
In all, ICS does not add a lot of meaningful advantages, and it slows some things down (like speech to text.) I would give the Evo a shot if I were you - just don't expect a HUGELY better experience and you should like it just fine. And I would not ditch your Photon just yet.
hmmm
thanks , you seems like the perfect person for me to ask
because you own all 3 of them
anyway about the phone call quality, the evo is better than the photon ?
and how about radio signal reception strength ?
if you have to choose between the SGS3 vs EVO LTE which one will you choose ?
actually i do really like the photon
the only thing is that i love SENSE so much that using any android without it seems like a little weird for me.
thats why I'm leaning towards the EVO LTE rather than the SGS3 because of the SENSE
but i wont buy the EVO LTE if the performance is not that great
the only thing that i like about the newer devices is their screen,
i love the Photon
its like the perfect phone.
it can work globally.
and have very good call sound quality.
and also the speakerphone is one of the best i heard from a phone before.
but the Screen quality is very bad IMHO and also the camera is bad.
and lastly it doesnt have SENSE
please tell me more about your opinions once again
so sorry for my questions and also pardon me of my bad english.
thank you so much.
i have the Evo lte and my girlfriend has the Photon. performance wise, the Evo is definitely faster but not by alot. the photon is a great phone, imo. the biggest difference in the two is the screen and camera. so much better on the Evo it's not even funny. with all this being said, i don't think i would upgrade from the photon to the new evo, too close in performance. if i were you i would just wait till ICS drops for the photon or wait till something substantially better comes out.
I used to have the Photon. Like others have stated, the performance between the two isn't much different. The camera and the display are better on the Evo LTE. It has been stated on other threads that the receiption on the Evo LTE isn't that good, but I haven't had any issues with it personally. I also am getting better battery life on my Evo LTE than I got on my Photon.
My Evo LTE was a little glitchy for the first 2-3 weeks that I got it, but it ahs seemed to simmer down since then. It has been pretty smooth for the last month.
One nice feature that my Evo LTE does that my Photon didn't, is that I can use data while on a call. It came in handy the other day when I was on a call and was trying to locate a store with Google Maps. I do not recall being able to do this with my Photon.
Do I think it was worth switching over to the Evo LTE? Yes, for me it was worth it because I gained a better battery (not too much, but anything is nice), simultanious voice and data, a better camera and display, and the option of receiving LTE (once it is fully rolled out).
Yes that's the thing..it isn't always about just speed..shoot my 3d was fast..and u can't get much faster than instant...to me when I see or hold my 3d or a photon I can just tell they are not in the same league as the newer devices..the screen on the LTE is the best screen on a mobile device period..imo of course..and the camera is terrific..and the nice build and scratch resistant screen is nice..I have not used a screen protector and I don't have one scratch..not even one of those little ones..its held up nice..I swear I'm like a broken record but if the multi tasking is fixed (and I know it can be..my girls intercept does) this is the perfect phone for me..but that one issue is a big one ..
Had the Photon til a new job required a new cell. The EVOs camera and screen are between superior and far superior to the Photon.
The Photon as a telephone, with which to make calls, is far superior to the EVO.
Everything else is personal preference. If you're in a non LTE market (heck I'm in a so-called live LTE market in Atlanta and I NEVER HAVE IT) I wouldn't bother with this phone.

I still have the photon. I still love the phone and I have no plans to get ride of it. Since I travel to México and it works great over there.
Performance wise you won't see a significant difference, the screen and camera are way better on the evo, though some times it feels slower than the photon but it is due to sense. I would love CM on this phone.
It is worth the switch but if you think you are going to see a day and night difference.. You are not going to see that.

I will add that the GS3 with a case on it ( so it feels better) is a seriously good phone. The screen is great, calls are clear, the camera is excellent. Even without the case it feels better than previous Samsungs. And it's definitely faster than the Evo, and good multitasking to boot. I have been using the GS3 for the past few days while waiting for Evo repair, and I don't really see any down sides.
Food for thought.
Sadly the multitasking really is abysmal...but people act like the screen and camera aren't 2 of the most important parts of a smartphone..and the EVO is fast ..sense may make it seem a little slower but its not..I've turned off transition animations and to me it makes my phone feel faster ..I've heard the photon has great radios so I don't think any phone has come along to take that crown from the photon..
You might want to wait for the new Motorola Photon LTE which will be out August 19th on Sprint:
http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/13/motorola-photon-q-4g-lte-up-for-pre-order-hitting-sprint-august/
Then you can compare Evo LTE to Photon LTE hands on in store.

That looked interesting but I read before its going to have a slide out key board. I think its kind of big for a physical one. Just my opinion on the Moto Q.

In all fairness, the keyboard on the moto photon q is pretty sweet.

The EVO 4G LTE is amazing. Buy it. People are really overstating its issues i think. They are few and far between. Amazing call quality, amazing camera, best screen in existence (way better than GS3), it has Sense which you like, the kickstand is freaking awesome, and it feels awesome in your hands. The development is outstanding so far if you're into that, so jump on board team HTC.

i dont want the photon LTE cause it have qwerty physical keyboard and its screen size is the same as my old photon.
now its getting more confusing
i dont need LTE cause i live in overseas wheres there will be no LTE till at least 2016 or so
my only thinking is that the EVO LTE have "Sense" where no matter what mod or theme i install in the photon will never replicate the UI friendlyness of Sense
but if the phone is not that much better than the photon, then i cant justified the upgrade.
sigh...
if only there's a perfect phone out there hahahahahha.
about S3 vs EVO LTE
from the review i read, it seems that the S3 win in every other area except for the Sense vs touchwiz.
so im getting more and more confuse right now.
what i really want is a phone that have :
-Htc one X's design (i really like the international version, especially in white)
-Samsung galaxy S3's hardware ( the 2GB Ram)
-Motorola Photon's radio , call and speaker phone quality (one of the best out there)
-Motorola Droid Razr maxx's battery life
and prefferably global capable too.
i know this is wishfull thinking.
or maybe is should wait for the new iphone 5 instead ?

Hahahaha, yeah, the iPhone 5 will not satisfy any of your above wants. That's funny. You want a small, dated screen with a boring, dated UI that "just works" but can't really do much of anything? Go for it.
Anyway, assuming you were joking, I don't see how the S3 wins on every front. Really the S3 only wins in RAM, which currently is a useless feature anyway. EVO has nicer camera and software for it, better build, has a kickstand, and what you want for software: Sense. It also has a nicer screen that doesn't look like an episode of Spongebob Squarepants.

Im going to have to disagree on the extra ram being useless, I owed a Evo for over 2 months before selling it and getting a S3 and without a doubt the extra ram makes a great differences with a resource hungry UI like sense and touch wiz. Case and point, the multitasking, the loading it does when you hit the home button and occasional slow down switching from app to app. A lot of you users will be in denial that you actually have a problem but trust me I noticed it. One just has to look at your available ram when using your phone and see how low of ram it actually gets when using your phone. While on the GS3 you constantly have over 1gb remaining.
