Hello devs,
Quick question. My thinking is its a question for developers.
I love to use different roms but one thing keeps me on cyanogen roms, the option to use the volume rocker switch on the side of the phone to change/ seek songs. The reason being is while I'm driving, its easier to skip songs. I found the miui rom option to shake the phone is sort of useful, but only works when the screen is on, which can be distracting whilst driving.
Is it possible to port this function to other roms, or maybe create a flashable zip?
Greatly appreciate everyones time and skill, in making these roms and keeping the x10 going.
Thanks again.
Lunar.

Hy,
Previoulsly I was using a flased HTC Polaris. There was one great thing with this phone : buttons. Espacially incoming call answer button.
I love my X10, but I do have problem answering incoming phonecall. The slide button is very difficult to use with both hands, and impossible if you use your phone with one hand only (It could be a good thing for not answering while driving though).
I expected that flashing with a custom rom would solve this issue, as I was sure that everyone would agree with this point of view, but so far, I haven't tested a ROM that provide an incoming call button that isn't a slide button.
I believe that this slide thing (even for unlocking I don't like it) is some sort of iPhone like complex. Well to my point of view, an Android phone isn't an iPhone, and shouldn't try to look like an iPhone (espacially when it comes to details that are not so great about the iPhone)
Now to my question : is there a way to change the style of the answer button from this stupid and unpracticle slide button to a more simple touch button ?
There is a handfull of apps to do that... i listed some of them here, but i guess you can find even more of them:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lab1945.advphone&feature=search_result
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.nsd.easyanswer
https://market.android.com/details?id=tw.nicky.FullScreenCallerPro&feature=search_result
I guess some of them even allow you to use camera button to answer the phone.
The "iPhone Complex" is SO true...
Well said.
(I am using MIUI, but that's all about absorbing the good aspects of the iPhone and combining them with the Android power)

Great. Thanks a LOT.
I thought this kind of things would be changed only with a mod ROM.
Nope.. it's a case of "There's an app for that" !!!!!!
I'm searching this function since long time and I just cant' find this function like I would find it.
I would have a function which permit us to skip song with a long press on a volume button and may be return on the previous song with another button pressed.
Well, for the moment, on ROM like 2.1.1.Clean.0.0 V5 by pfonk, there is no perfect solution :
> buy some apk like player pro which need to wake the screen to skip the song
> test all apks called "next track, and co." of the market
> keep a custo'rom with some parts of cyanogen in it (I tested a lot but for daily use, there is always something that goes wrong with me)
I just found some subject on it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257260&highlight=skip+song+volume+button
http://miuiandroid.com/forums/showthread.php?7356-MOD-Skip-track-via-volume-press
I hope that someone had some ideas to bring a solution to this problem
Thanks for your time
Some other ROMs have this by default. Mini Cm7 Pro v21 is on CyanogenMod settings.
Sorry for english

Simply use PowerAMP that app have it as an option
Really can't see it in PowerAMP, just headset buttons, but nothing about volume buttons...
Are you sure ?
Do I need to buy some new eyes to see it ?
I have seen it before, don't remember if it is a special apps or in the Android settings, but it allows you to skip track by a long press on the camera button
As far as I've used my X10 mini pro on the stock rom I've used this without requiring anything? Default music player and skip with volume buttons
EDIT: Fixed phone model
May be on big X10, I don't know, but not on our X10 Mini Pro
That always worked for me, on cm6 and cm7 roms, I use mortplayer now but used others before and always worked.
Yeah, but except ROM CM6 and CM7, it does not work...
on stock it also worked.. if the rom your using is not based on cyanogen or not stock then ask the developer of it to fix?
I mean if you tried players with that option and still doesnt work then something is missing in the rom to make it work.

2.1.1.Clean.0.0 has all the standard music-related stuff ripped out, player, library, service provider etc. But all can be downloaded from post #2 in it's thread and easily restored.

Well I'm sorry but I test right now on 2.1.1.C.0.0 Official, not the pfonk version....and the official player doesn't respond when I press a long time on volume button... Like I remembered.
But For sure, it could work with playerpro which give this possibility.
The problem with these players is that they don't propose the possibility to skip song with screen off:
you must reactivate it with a little press before a long press to skip song.....
and unfortunaly when you do that, the screen stay on during few seconds.
In this time, the screen respond in my pocket and press "next" on the lockscreen widget (which is necessary to ake work the "skip when volume button pressed".
So... I look for:
a player pretty light which is capable to skip songs thanks to volume button, without reactivate the screen..
or may be a module which could work on official or Clean version of official rom.
Any ideas ?
This file can't be ported or help to my problem ?
i found an app called TactilePlayer in th Android dev thread, will try to find the link for it. But it provides hardware button controls without needing to root/flash rom.
(edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1337009 )
Most custom roms that run CyanogenMod have feature built in and can be found under:
Settings > CyanogenMods settings > Input > Volume Button music controls []
Well Well Well, it works pretty well, I test it with UberMusic and even if it's a little special when the user wants increase the volume, it's already better than the playerpro's option.
Anyway, tks for that, I really like it !
If someone find a solution better again, please tell us.
i've searched and could not find...so basically what the title is....
is there anyway to make the home button the unlock button???
as i think the power button is almost as awkward as my atrix unlock button. just curious....i'm still running a stock rom..so i'm guessing if this option was available it would have to be in a custom rom...maybe cm7 as that has a lot of different options.
anyhow just a question.
Kind Regards
Matt
sorry i've been a spoon. i've asked the question, but not actually tried it! whoops. mod can close this!!!! my bad!!! i usually am more observant than this i swear!!! :S
Hi I'm running Villainrom 3.0.0 and if i hit home, wait until lockscreen appears then hit home again, it unlocks.
I'm sure this is not an added mod as VR is as close to stock as possible.
That could be useful but for the moment im going to be staying stock. My past android phones have always been better away front stock. But i do like this.

Dear Android users,
As I am a user using Sony Xperia S with android 4.04 I am looking for a way to change the vibration pattern on my phone.
Is there any safe way to get into the system to set my own vibration to my own choice?
For example: My phone hardly vibrates only once for a short time. I can barely feel it vibrating. I'd like to change this for example to 3(or more) harder and shorter vibes so I can feel it in my pocket.
I know I can use several apps for this. But I'd like to give it a shot without any app.
Is there anyone who can provide me an answer for this?
Kind Regards,
Flint

That would require in depth knowledge of java or smali and a great info about the phones os as to what I packages handle vibration.
I recommend you better off with it and use apps.
If you really want to do it you'll find help in Xperia S forum

Alright, thanks for your answer
I've recently switched from a Galaxy Nexus to an S4 after a couple of years. I really like the S4, but I have a couple of nitpicks and questions, and was wondering if anyone could help out.
First, the bottom buttons annoy me since my Nexus and Nexus 7 are the exact opposite. Is there any way, mod or otherwise, to switch the back and menu buttons?
Is there any way to make the number pad use a normal number tone instead of the water drop noise?
TouchWiz was ok, but it was too restrictive with how I normally use my phone. I switched to Nova Launcher and infinitely prefer it. Does anyone know if the CM10.2 is going to be using the standard Nexus layout? If so, will that fix the above problem as well?
Every time I want to connect my headset, it pops up in the middle of the screen saying paired, and I have to touch it to connect. Is there a way for it to just connect automatically every time?
The boot screens are a little much for me, and the Rom Toolbox said it flashed a new one, but it never happened. Is there a special way this needs to be done?
Finally, I have a battery question, but I went ahead and posted a detailed question about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2421591
Thanks in advance for your help everyone!
1.you can always find a rom with soft keys available.
2. I believe cm will let you customize.
3.idk about headset
4. Assuming you have recovery, I'd just download a flashable boot screen and flash iy

Do the quick-key mods require full ROMs, or just flashable zips?
