Photon 4G rooted with the one-click method and boot loader is locked but unable to update to the recent release of the Motorola update.
Has anyone been able to get the update from Motorola after using the one-click update?
Have tried several times but unable to keep the file. Is there a download for the update that can be saved prior to the install?
look in the development section
Try unfreezing any stock apps, reboot, and try again.

Basically, use RSD to flash the SBF directly. You will lose root in the process, but you can run whatever rooting method you used again to get it back.
Hmmm... Mine upgraded just fine. I had origionally used the one click Root. Granted i lost root when I upgraded but that was just one more click after the upgrade.
Thank you for the website location.............I will try it.
BTW, what does SBF mean?

System Binary File.
BTW, RSDLite is very easy to use no matter technical skill level
SBF the earliest file, I will add a link to the post where I was able to fix this from, you will here a lot of people think you uninstalled a system app. Chances are, you didn't. I will post the link by 3:00pm Eastern Standard, it is 6:52am in Connecticut, so I am barely awake, lol.

You have a faulty phone.
I am at work right now, just reading my personal emails and saw a new comment on this thread. I will post more information when I get home at about 5pmEST, I have more info. It is 1:30pmEST now.
Edit: It is 5:27pm EST, sorry about the delay. Try what KTT16 said. Reflash the oldest version of a sbf, Version: 4.5.1A SUN-154_5-CM.

Wipe data, re flash sbf is what I do to get out of trouble. Youll probably want to back up apps and data first.

I can flash other other roms with no issue so i dont think this is a faulty phone at all. I do have the 1.3 oc kernal running also.
I had a faulty phone that wouldn't SBF, so I figured you did.

I was just told that Motorola has just fixed the issue so now everyone can update.
PLEASE TRY TO UPDATE AGAIN.
IF NOT PLEASE DO A FACTORY RESET THEN UPDATE TO THE LATEST VERSION.
Let me know your findings, then if that doesn't work do the sbf.

I had to SBF this way, but read the comment from user: "tbhausen".
He writes: Motorola has re-issued the 198_6 build to address this problem. Also, 198_7 is available in the MoPho dev subforum
-----
Try what I wrote in my last post, if that doesn't work, try the instructions in the above link, these are the same instructions I gave you earlier, just a more detailed version.
ok so this my make me sound like a noob but if i do a factory resett thru the phone will it remove my custom rom or should i do it thru cwm?
You aren't that that much of a noob, lol.
You will lose your Rom anyways, so after you SBF or Factory Reset, everything will be gone, and you will have to start all over again.
Yes, throught CWM.
By the way, even as a seasoned Senior Member, I still find myself asking noob questions on occasion.
So download the update put phone inti cwm and clear cache and data factory reset then let update go? Thinking out side the box
First you should do the update.
If it fails,
CWM factory reset.
If that fails, SBF then update.
Post your findings.

Is there a method to relock the phone after you are rooted for both the docked version and dockless version?
Yes. You can either flash a new SBF, which will overwrite the /system partition -- or you can manually go and remove the "su" executable from the partition and uninstall any root-enabled apps you have.

I'm new to this and have rooted my Photon successfully. Everything was great until yesterday morning when my 3g connection refused to start. I've tried everything including Sprint's advanced tech support...I'm now forced to take my MoPho to the in-store tech and have them diagnose, so I need to get it unrooted.
Here's my question: can somebody please do a step by step on how to manually remove the executable? I really need to get this thing fixed! It SUCKS having no data connection outside of wifi!!

UPDATE #2
It worked to un-root my phone but didn't work to fix the 3g connectivity problems I was having. I was forced to factory data reset, but it's working now.
I was trying to load CM7 and now I'm tanked. My screen is stuck on the "Red M w/ Dual Core Technology" screen and at the top it says "FAILED TO BOOT 2" then "STARTING RSD MODE".
I pull the battery and put it back in but the same screen comes up and stays there.
Please, any/all advice would be greatly appreciated. I need this phone for work. (I know, I know. Why was I messing with my work phone. Please save that for later. I need this back running.)
Thanks.
Can you boot it into recovery or fastboot?
alright, there's a few things i need to know before we can get to helping you.
what type of Atrix do you have? (International, AT&T, Bell, etc. etc.)
is your device Unlocked? (did you apply the Pudding files and go through the whole 'fastboot oem unlock' process?)
do you have the most up to date Recovery installed? (either Romracer's recovery or CWM Recovery from Rom Manager)
answer those and get back to me asap please, don't want your battery to die before you have a chance to fix your device or you'll have to hack apart a USB cable.

alright, go here and download the AT&T pudding file.
IF YOU HAVE EVER DID THE OTA UPDATE TO GINGERBREAD THROUGH AT&T, OR YOUR DEVICE CAME WITH GINGERBREAD FROM AT&T, YOU CANNOT DOWNGRADE TO THE FROYO VERSION OR YOU WILL HARD BRICK YOUR DEVICE.
alright, now that we have that over with, grab the pudding file and flash it with RSD Lite. (boot into RSD mode on your phone, plug it into your computer, and flash away!)
after that, let me know how things go.

Hi,
Motorola site and sprint site says that new version is there:
4.5.1A-1_SUN-254_13
But where to get it ? I am currently using 197.
Thanks.
It's an OTA, and I believe you have to be on 196 or it won't work.

What he said. Just remember, after applying that the bootloader will be perma locked.
Ok, my photon is 2.3.5 and after something a bit rash, the side effect is that it is Soft-Bricked. I tried to use RSD with the (198_6)-1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_6-CM-release-keys-signed-Sprint-US file.
I guess that is going backwards which is not allowed. So what is the SBF file that I should use to get the phone out of boot loop? obviously it is brand new.
The error I got was: Failed flashing process. Phone[0000]hone did not re-enumerate after RAM-downloader was sent. (0x703E)
thanks.
What does it mean, that you're soft bricked?
Im guessing bootloop not bricked bricked.

Someone has tried to go backwards literally every day this week. We need a warning sticky. Or better yet, a scrolling marquee at the top of each forum in 72pt red font...
I think I wrote good enough warning in the sv2 thread... I don't know what more can I do. But still because of some people that cannot read, I am not going to abandon that USC sbf, because it's really good to have it. It helped many other people already.

Its only because most people don't understand what that thread is so they don't bother clicking on it. It is of great help though.
Glad somebody said something about it. I'm coming back to my Photon after spending 3 months with the GS2. I almost OTA'd... well mine kept failing cuz I still had root and something was preventing it, but I almost SBF'd to 196 and tried to OTA to this new one, but I'm glad I've done neither then. Guess I'll stick with 154 for a while.
@OP - better to stay on 197... do not update to 254_13..

Step by step 2.3.5 unbrick:
1)Flash this SBF (http://d-h.st/XGJ). Now you'll have stock 2.3.5 for Electrify. But you need Sprint services (I assume), so you don't stop here. -
Flashing ,Using RSD Lite with proper Motorola USB drivers installed.
2) Download bootstrap from DroidX2 forum, and get it working. Of course you need to root your photon first. Get if from below.
3) Flash this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=30332325) from bootstrap. Please follow the instructions for this ROM carefully, you don't wanna flash the SBF again.
4) Flash 2.3.5_254_13 sv2 boot, recovery and cdrom image sbf (http://d-h.st/TeB) with RSD Lite.
Before you flash all this other stuff..... what did your phone say when you tried to boot it up??
Reason I am asking is because I recieved the "failed to boot 3" and then I ran the derpunlock.sbf and blam I had an unlocked Photon running 254_13. I was then able to put on a custom recovery and re-root the phone without any issues at all. Not saying this is a fix for yours, just letting you know what mine did.
Yep. Just got a new AT&T Atrix 4G online for a pretty reasonable price. I immediately rooted it and installed ROM Manager so I could install a better ROM instead of the stock Froyo it came with. Hadn't done an mod on an Atrix in a while, so naturally I spaced off UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER before starting. I'm such a knucklehead.
So yep... an hour after getting the phone I'm stuck with the good ol' phone frozen in "Failed to boot 2" thing (yes, I've tried pushing VolUp and also dropping out the battery and restarting).
IIRC, I might be able to fix it if I can flash a stock 2.2.2 SBF with RSDLite, but the problem is that I can't seem to find a Froyo SBF anywhere. All the links I find seem to be dead. Ideas on where to find one? Something else I can do to bring this thing back from the dead?
Any and all help appreciated.

Sorry for the n00bish question. I couldn't find the "these files have pudding" sign. XD
If this file isn't pudding, would you mind pointing out the one that is?
I know that rsd is NOT (very much so) recommended but I'm comfortable using it under the proper conditions.
I also saw this thread but I'll leave my query to the above for now.

I tried that. It keeps trying to do that damn update.
I've never taken an OTA on a Samsung device. In my experience there is a prompt that verifies you want to install after the download. IF it's the same here, I would THINK your safe to Odin.
If you can get to recovery, throw a ROM on your SD card and flash.

you have to poke a accept after it downloads
then it boots to download mode
if you like
you can revert stock to MDK wipes everything

flash to complete stock and re-root ??
Not sure how far out of the way you would like to go..
I downloaded the OTA and let it site on the stock MDK phone for over a day before I rooted and installed ota root keeper to test to see if I can restore root..with out bricking
I could of easily delete the fota cache where it downloaded to and frozen the propitiate file to stop the update

get into recovery and just flash a custom rom.
If you have titanium backup, use it to freeze SDM 1.0 and FWUpdate. This will keep the new software from downloading and keep the software update notification from appearing (provided it hasn't been installed by now).

best idea has been said, get that thing into custom recovery where the OTA cant install. try beating the phone as it tries to install and get it into download mode and see if u can flash a custom recovery though ODIN
What you can do at this point depends a lot on what has already been updated on your phone.
If the bootloader is already updated, then there's no way for you to load the older kernel onto it to get it ready to root.
What I'd suggest you do is to go ahead at try the rooting process.
Boot the phone into download mode and try to push the MD2 kernel onto it,
If the install tries to restart, it'll fail since you don't have the expected software, which hopefully will give you a usable system.
Then use motochopper to try to get "su" access.
If ODIN refuses to flash the MD2 software, it's probably the case that you've already gone past the point of no return (i.e. you've got the updated, locked bootloader) and you might as well let the update finish.
If you succeed, then install MDK and Voodoo OTA Keeper and cross your fingers.
Good luck!
