[Q] Signature verification failed! :( - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys, i'm new to this whole android system, and i just rooted my samsung galaxy s2 yesterday. using odin + superoneclick
i have the super user and i installed a program to check if i am really rooted or not.
the problem is, everytime i try to install ANY rom, it says that my signature verification failed.. ERROR!!!
i can flash diferent kernels with odin.. but can't install rom's using the clockworkmod manager...
can you help me on this one?
this is what im using now
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWKE7
Android Version: 2.3.3
Basehand version: I9100JCKE1
KERNEL VERSION: 2.6.35.7-I9100XXKG6-CL425236 [email protected] #2
Thanks in advance

Maybe I am saying it for 50 times now,
You need to flash the zImage of your rooted kernel dude. Signature related error comes from that.

thanks for your reply
can you help me find the rooted kernel for my phone?
i´m kind of new to this....
thank you

i´ve flashed GT-I9100_KE7_insecure.tar on my already rooted galaxy, and tried to install cynamon rom using rom manager. and still have the same issue : Signature verification failed...
and now, everytime i boot my phone a yellow triangle with a exclamation mark appears.. changing the kernel to something else solved this last part...
I want to install custom roms... plz help me

Use cf-root method from the original android development thread (S2 ofc) of this forum.
Follow the instructions and you will be fine.
Yes the yellow triangle means your kernel is not original, that's 100% normal on rooted devices.

As the above user said flash Chainfire kernel for root. Download KE7.tar from that thread and root with it. You will get the zImage by extracting that .tar further. That zImage file you need to flash with the option Flash Kernel via CWM which is already installed on your device.

tks everyone... ill try that and post the result

found the link... following the steps now

i did what the thread said. and flashed the CF-root E7, and then flashed on the phone using cwm... STILL.. when i try to install roms i have the same problem ;( signature not verified ....

Flash with Odin dude! Flash the zImage via CWM.

... what i did what instead of installing the rom via rom manager i installed via CWM.. and it worked
plus... before that i re-instaled the kernel zimage instead of the .tar file tks guys.. i'm trying out Villain rom now.. let see..

it worked i installed the rom via CWM instead of rom manager... and flashed the Zimage instead of the zip or tar.. tks

[Q] rooted device can't install new ROM

Hello everybody,
First I'd like to thank to community for the hard work. I v read a countless amount of pages of this forum and I can't even imagine the time people spent helping on issues or writing tutorials.
So thank you if you re up to spend few minutes on my specific case (and sorry for the bad english).
Here is my device and the different version of kernel ...
1/ Rooting my device (tutorial in french translated from xda)
http://www.cnetfrance.fr/produits/guide-rooter-son-galaxy-s2-39763841.htm
S-Root version used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
Everything went pretty well when I rooted the GS2. I got the Superuser app so i figure it's ok.
I just used a modified kernel found on xda who was corresponding the my base band version (just the PDA in Odin).
2/ Installing a new ROM (Cyanogenmod by Rom Manager)
I followed : http://www.redmondpie.com/install-cm7-on-galaxy-s2-using-rom-manager-how-to-tutorial/ and http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II:_Full_Update_Guide (official guide) using Rom Manager premium.
When i tried to reboot in Recovery (manually or with Rom Manager), i can't find the "Install the zip" option, I have 4 available: "Update from the zip", the 2 wiping/delete options and the reboot.
So obviously if i try to wipe files, wipe the cache then to update with the zip I have the following Error:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
Do you have any idea what went wrong in the process ?
Should i flash the phone withOdin and change my base band version to another one ?
For info, I did the Permission Fix option in Rom Manager too. Didnt help.
Thanks a lot.
U need clockworkmod instaled first..

You didn't install ClockworkMod Recovery.
Thanks for theses answers but I think I installed it with Rom Manager and i flashed it to the last version.
(joined file 1 : cwm rom manager.jpg)
When i reboot in recovery mode here is the only options available (and it's the problem i pointed out) :
(joined file 2 : 20111125_13221022.jpg)
Maybe a problem with my SD card ?

As we've already said, you haven't installed CWM Recovery. You see at the top of your second photo where it says "Android system recovery (3e)"? That's stock recovery.
you can't install CWM recovery thru ROM manager.
just flash the CF Root Kernel for KI4 thru ODIN , you will have CWM recovery.
Hmm I understand about the CWM version I'm booting with, but as you can see on the first capture, my kernel version is a modified one i got after using Odin (puting this Kernel : GT-I9100_XXKI4_insecure.tar from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671).
I got the root access by S2 Root.
Ok I think I installed only the Kernel and not CF Root available here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
I ll try to redo Odin and stuff and let you know if I'm still alive.
So it's not great right now. I have installed CF Root with Odin, so I had CWM on my phone (I could see the application). Then after reboot with CWM Recovery and installing Cyanogenmod, the phone doesnt want to start anymore.....
I tried to apply the insecure kernel again with Odin but still impossible to download. I'm stuck on the screen with the yellow sign and written Galaxy S2.
HALP !!
I just tried to put back the official firware version : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 and put it in my phone with Odin.
Ok, I dont have the yellow sign anywore but the phone is still stuck on the boot screen (where it's written Samsung GALAXY s II)...
What should I try ?
I'm still able to boot with CWM recovery but I didn't make any backup and nothing work.
Do you think the phone is dead ?
5 posts in a row?
So, just to clarify, you've tried to install CM7, which amongst other things tells you to do a nandroid backup, and also to flash twice in succession. Did you do either of these things? The instructions are there to be followed, don't just ignore them.
Ok my bad I didn't backup anything because I had no data to backup. This was maybe a bad move...
Anyway, I tried to flash it twice yes. Right now, i'm working with a modified Kernel (with CF Root), and booting in CWM Recovery. When I want to flash again by installing from the .zip I get a Satus 7 Error.
In CWM, every advanced options are apparently available but I dont know anything about them.
And just so you know, on my SD Card i have 1 update.zip and the update-cm-7.1.0-Galaxys2.... .zip from Cyanogen.

Flash a stock rom with Odin and then root your phone again. Start reading and follow procedures when you want to flash custom roms again .See Intratechs`s thread for a stock rom
Thanks for your reply.
I did it, it didn't work, I mean i could flash with Odin but the reboot doesn't work : the start screen appeared without the yellow sign, but it's stuck on it.
--- update
FYI, I installed Rom Manager yesterday, it way interact in a bad way with CWM Recovery.
For now i can mount USB by CWM Recovery but cannot do anything else.
If you have a method to clean completely the phone ? Maybe the bootloader is broken...

I did it. 20 times .
Maybe I should re partition my SD card...

I re partitionned my SD Card with Odin and tried to install a new stock ROM. Everything pass with Odin but to finalize the set up (while reboot), I got some errors and still the same problem during the boot. It's stuck !
I installed a insecure Kernel so I can access CWM Recovery but still stuck and now I can't mount anything .

[Q] Need desperate help!

Hey guys, new member here, got a Galaxy S 2 on Three UK
I'm only 15, but I've hacked iPhones, iPods, rooted my Galaxy S, and now rooted my Galaxy S 2.
But I've run into a couple of problems on the way.
My information is:
Baseband Version: I9100NEKD5
Kernal Version: [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKE1
My kernel version is KI8 because I flashed it to it via odin...
But my problems are:
1) My ROM Manager doesn't work, will flash the software, flashed it twice, when I reboot it into recovery, it goes into Samsung standard recovery and says "E:signature verification failed", people have said look at advanced settings but I can't find any advanced settings even though I have premium ROM Manager?
2) My mate with an SGS2 told me about an update, so I tried to update, it downloads successfully, but when I go to actually install it, it says it fails and I need to use Kies or go to a samsung tech centre, but when I plug it into Kies, it says no update available or something...
So, I'd appreciate as much help as possible
Thank you all
Oli
1. Try installing the update manually from booting into recovery mode manually.
2. Once your mobile is rooted , you wont see any update from kies. But still you can manually download it and flash it straight away.
Does your kernal have cwm recovery? Rom manager on its own will not give you cwm. So maybe flash cf root.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Edit: don't use Rom manager.
Take a breath and go to here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Read the 1st few posts on how to do things.
Download any version of firmware you want and flash with Odin.
Then root via cfroot or any one of the custom kernels via Odin.
You should be back in businesses at this point.
Let us know if you need any more help but I think you will be fine.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I'm rooted fine, I have been for months, its just why won't it let me update even when I'm unrooted. Snd why doesn't cwm work either? Ah I have no idea about these things
If you go into normal recovery you don't have cwm installed. Just read the thread that was linked and you will be fine. And don't use rommanager on s2. With cfroot kernel a cwm app will be installed. Use this one instead.

Toggle signature verification to 'off'
I've read about that, but can't find the setting?!
I don't have a clue what you guys are saying, please tell me in an easier way if possible, as I'm only 15 and don't understand much...

DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER .
You require a rooted phone with CWM 4 and above not 3e.
how to
Root + CWM .

KIES updates if their is an update for your phones codes not because your mate tells you .
Either wait or use stock rom .
Stock Roms .and csc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
ROUTE decide what update you want flash via Odin as per stock rom post . Then choose root and CWM to match the kernel .

@ZACQ8,
I rooted my son's S2 using this method -> http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2-newworks-on-all-galaxy-s2-variants/ and now need to install CWM. Was thinking of "touch", but don't know how.
Went to the CF-root link in your signature but not sure which one to choose ... my firmware before the root was 2.3.6, but has now gone to 2.3.5 and the base band is XXKI4. Can you suggest the exact file I should download? Can you also tell me if the touch version is available?
Thanks,

CWM Manager should be used with CF-CWM v1.1 or newer

Im really new to this but willing to learn, I used this root file CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4 (2) and it came with CWM after rooting. Iv Setup recovery through ROM Manager to Clockworkmod 6.0.3.6 and I no longer get an error when opening ROM Manager but still get an error when opening the CWM App but if it is now redundant I wont worry.
Just backed up backed up current ROM (stock OS rooted) to check all is ok and seems to have saved it fine so its working as it should.
Just downloading a custom ROM on laptop now so want to get it right before i flash it

[Q] Not able to flash any new rom

hi everyone
i flashed stock 4.1.2 DDLS3 firmware via odin. (no root)
I rooted my s2 i9100g by http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065581 .
1. flashed SU-BB-Installer.zip for root
2. flashed B_Safe_Kernel_DDLS3_TWRP.zip: for cwm
Done sucessfully.
3. flashed SU-BB-Unstaller.zip for unroot
4. again flashed SU-BB-Installer.zip for root
(last two steps since I want to take it to service center for some speakers problem)
Now I am rooted twrp recovery. But could not install any rom with twrp/temp_cwm. Even i clicked usb debugging but when i connect it to pc it shows only "connected as a media device" no usb debugging connected messege. And I tried to flash stock firmware again via odin--> it showed added then some progress then pass . phone rebooted but no new stock firmware(still with same last system, settings, apps).
Any one please help. root checker apps says rooted successfully.
Hi,
don´t understand you quiet well. If you have this kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293576 then you have a custom recovery and install (flash) new roms via cwm (install zip from...).
Du you flash one-part firmwares via odin? Try after flashing a factory reset in the recovery.

Yes I am with the same kernel but whenever i tried to flash a new rom via recovery mod it gives status 7 error and says md5 file not found type thing. I did full data wipe but still same error. I think my USB debugging is not on even I checked it. May it a problem for flashing rom via recovery. I tried to flash again stock DDLS3 firmware via odin, it seems that odin did his work fine(it shows phone added+someprocess+pass) but phone is still with old system.

I tried ICS_xd rom. flashed successful. But getting STSTUS 7 error for miui roms
Any help?
Is there any other way to flash miui rom.
Hi,
Status 7 is a kernel problem, so maybe your kernel isnt compatibl with miui.
Tried this on: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605655 ?

I am with s2 i9100g not i9100. So i think that may not work here. I have asked in miui rom section and they suggest some change in rom.zip file. May be that help. BTW thanks for the help.
