I'm using Camera Zoom FX. Whit it I can put 41x of zoom, it outo-detect the zoom metod, here i'm using type 2 (Settings >> Zoom). But, if not work you can try the others type (1,2,3,4).

2.3.4 solves the proble even in video mode.

I don't know if I'm right but I had tested it a moment ago. I shoot a video with my Mini at the same way Rikard @ SE product blog did with his X10 in auto-focus test and the focus automatically readjusted... I don't know if Mini has the same behavior in 1.6, but if it's not...
If it's not, then although SE hasn't added HD Video Recording, they had added Continuous Autofocus in Video Mode since 2.1! And I thought continuous autofocus is more important than HD (VGA is enough for me )
Bear in mind, that it may struggles more in low light condition... You can try to turn on the flash light

Yes it has continuous AF + the camera shutter speed has been improved..
Have they added zoom?

in cm7 room zoom camera is also unavailable.... Just install camera FX Zoom pro.apk
open it and there you have a zoom in your camera!! works like the normal camera&same quality.! searched the pro V in google

i installed cm7 today at my x10 and now i try to install my all old stock 2.3.3 apps like camera, sms apk and other but it doesn't work
the problem is with the cm7 camera apk i have no auto focus in the video mode and i can not zoom :/

for camera try using camera 360 you can zoom in that but for video not sure
i downloaded camera360 but it says my camera doesn't support zoom is that a CM 7 bug? with the stock camera apk the X10 can zoom.

But I can't work out how to take widescreen photos
with the camera. In camera settings you can only set
the picture size (8MP, 5MP), there is no aspect or wide
option.
But when recording videos the aspect is 16:9
Is there a way to set the camera in this rom to take
widescreen photos?
If not, is there a way to use a different camera apk?

Sorry bro if you want wide screen photos try a different camera app from market. as i dont think that ics camera takes widescreen photos :/
Seems that the sony ericsson default camera app just crops the image when in widescreen mode. thanks for your help!

Thanks for the reply, but i experienced the same noise level on 3mp and 5 mp. Camera FX is a good app, i tried that to, have a lot of functions, but the normal shot is better in stock sony camera app. Anway my old Vivaz is the best camera i had after my K750.. I miss them, why cant sony make camera lyk those devices??
